The veggies keep the salmon soft and also soak up some flavorful juices. The walnuts provide great textural contrast. Zwiebelkuchen - had never had this before but we're fans now. Zwiebelkuchen is a savory German onion cake made of steamed onions, diced bacon, cream, and caraway seeds on leavened dough. Absolute flavor bomb! Service was excellent. Given the glowing reviews, we were excited to try Sapalta. Needless to say, we won't be returning. The limited selection of entrees and appetizers were very expensive and extremely small portion sizes. My wife's pierogi entree was all salad with four small wafer thin pierogis. Our dinner also felt rushed as our entrees came out before we had finished our appetizers. The dining experience took less than 50 minutes. Quite a nice lakefront restaurant connected to a lodge. It was raining so we opted to sit inside, but it would've been lovely to eat outdoors on a nice day. We ordered their summer melon prosciutto salad, hot chicken sandwich, and charcuterie board to try local cheese and meats. Their hot chicken is actually HOT. One of the worst experiences I've ever had dining out in my 60 years! We boated up from Watkins Glen on a Monday night looking for a lovely evening of lake time and good food and atmosphere. It is a lovely atmosphere at Sapalta but the service was the worst. There were four of us and we ordered our drinks and food right away. We waited about 20 minutes for our drinks. That's fine. Other foursomes came and were seated after us. We waited another 20 minutes for our second round of drinks. The other foursomes received their food, their checks and left. We waited an hour and a half for our food. No explanation for lack of food, we ran out of water, we went to the bar for our own drinks (at this point we were quite tipsy because NO FOOD!) I asked the waitress where our food was - no explanation. At this point, I asked to speak to the dining room manager. I asked to speak to her 6 times from different people passing out table. The dining room manager passed our table 6 times and didn't stop to say anything to us. After I accosted her in the doorway she said she would look into why our food hadn't come. Apparently it was a wi-fi issue but, again, no one cared or came to our table to tell us our food was going to be late. We finally got our food. My crabcakes were stone cold. I was over it at this point as were my companions so my friend paid the large bill (which I was against) and we left. Too bad they ruined this lovely place to get to by boat for dinner with a terrible experience. We will not be back...they don't care about their local people's experience...and we will be telling others don't go there as well. Their GM will be getting a call from us today. First, the location is lovely and so there's hope it can be fixed. I'm just going to say it, this place wants very badly to be a fancy restaurant but it's not ready for prime time. The menu is tiny, which is fine, but just know that going in. Two overwhelming issues. Walked in the door to an overwhelming stench of urine with open door bathrooms right there. Second the dining room was deafeningly loud with large parties yelling across the tables. My advice is sit outside. The staff had a bit of pretentiousness about them in their interactions, but were probably trained that way. My hamburger was ordered well done and was very undercooked even though quite thin. Other food was descent and certainly well presented. IMO they're getting ahead of themselves on going for fine dining without being equipped or experienced to pull it off. read more

I would extremely rarely give a restaurant a 1. Sapalta has been our favorite restaurant in the area. But tonight fell well below our expectations. They must have a lot of new staff. Service was not good and it was very obvious our server was inexperienced and new. I could totally live with that. Meals came ... they were flavorless. One person got the steak and potatoes and the steak was so tough and flavorless, she couldn't even eat it. Same with the potatoes - no seasoning at all. My husband got the salmon wrapped in cabbage which was mediocre. I got the scallops. They were ok, but served cold. When you have seared scallops, you expect them hot. The base of the dish seemed to be just canned tomatoes without any seasoning. So, as I said, the restaurant has been our favorite in the past and the surroundings are beautiful. Our party was so excited for this dinner and everything missed the mark. To start, the hostess was not very pleasant and there was a miscommunication on who was serving our table, so we waited 25 minutes till someone in our party spoke up. We also were looking forward to dining on the water, but there was a private party which was not stated when we made our reservations. On top of this, our steaks were served mooing, our sober friend was served alcohol, the ice was being scooped bare-handed, and one of our take home boxes was filthy when given to us. VIEW: The patio was perfect for viewing the sunset over the lake. Through the sillouette of the trees we could see the beautiful colors of the sky as well as the reflection of the colors in the water. LIVE MUSIC: Sapalta offers live music and for being seated closest to the artist it is pleasant to say that the volume wasn't so loud that tables could not converse. It's always nice to have live music but it's also nice to hear the company you are with. FOOD: The food was delicious and the portions are decent. Unfortunately I was unable to eat my whole meal because it was bedtime for my unconsolable baby. The wonderful waitress wrapped everything up and sent my meal to-go with my party. The food was still delicious as I finished my meal fireside by the Yurts! An amazing restaurant with views of Seneca Lake! The staff is welcoming and really go above and beyond to make your night out here a memorable one. I highly recommend making a reservation for outdoor dining if weather permits. Sadly, it was a rainy day so my reservation was moved indoors. The views of the lake indoors is still amazing so don't be discourage if you encounter a rainy day as well. If you are fortunate to receive Maddy as your server, you are in for a treat! She was very pleasant and attentive to our needs without being overbearing. She gave my girlfriend and I plenty of time between courses to enjoy our food and beverages. The restaurant prides itself on the farm to table concept and while I don't visit often enough to have the same dish twice, I never been disappointed either time. I went My most recent meal consisted of the Steelhead Trout with a risotto accompaniment. I also opted for the roasted asparagus and Yukon smashed potatoes as additional sides. The trout was seared nicely and flaked off the fork easily. The potatoes and asparagus were nicely roasted and seasoned well! My girlfriend enjoyed the lump crab cakes and the few bites I had reenforced the notion that you can't lose with any dish your select. The only question one has to ask themselves is, what are you in the mood for when you visit. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the FLX Region! Everything I have ever had here has been amazing! We stopped in last minute after hanging around Seneca and were once again wowed from their soup to their burger to their cocktails. I started off with their Plum Manhattan which is a really cool take on a Manhattan. It uses (I believe) McKenzie bourbon from Finger Lakes Distilling, cream sherry from Hunt Country Vineyard, plum jam, and bitters. It was surprisingly delicious, which is awesome because I'm used to traditional Manhattans made with rye whiskey, sweet and/or dry vermouth and bitters. The bourbon is a great, local, traditional style bourbon, the cream sherry is an interesting choice but adds a little sweetness which is supplemented by the plum jam. My fiancée also ordered a strawberry sangria that they had on special and it was fantastic too. You could taste the fresh strawberries in the drink which was superb. My fiancée ordered the crab bisque and I also got it as part of my entree. This wasn't like a lot of typical bisques that are just a creamy flavored broth. This soup was jam packed with yummy, sweet crab meat! This would be my part of my last meal if I had a choice. I got the soup, salad and bread and the salad portion was also incredibly fresh and I loved the herb dressing they used. My fiancée got the Old Man Cheddar burger. The quality of the meat is outstanding and it really shows in the taste of this burger. It has wonderful flavor that is perfectly complimented by the Muranda Cheese's Old Man Cheddar. The ingredients for this burger are very basic but the flavor anything but that! In my opinion, Sapalta is one of the best examples how great eating local and eating farm to table can be. She explained that service was going a little slow and some items on the menu were sold out. We got the charcuterie board, crab bisque, bread and jam, Moroccan shrimp, gnocchi, venison, tenderloin, ice cream and tiramisu. I don't eat meat, but everything I tried was stellar. You can tell that the ingredients are fresh and treated with care. The crab bisque was the soup of the day and me and my friend who both got it agreed that it may be the best soup we have ever eaten. So tender and tasted like they were just in the garden minutes prior to being served! I had shrimp with couscous and my hubby had gnocchi with meatballs. Again surprised us with the flavors that just was superb!!! For dessert we only had enough room for one. Again, just delightful strawberry crepe!
