Friday night fish fry is excellent. Have done it several times this summer. Service was a bit slow because of crowd.

Townie upscale. Dining in the finger lakes is a strange adventure. The Decoy was recommended as a "nice dinner restaurant ". And it was nice if you are used to eating dinner at the kitchen table. Ambiance is your aunts 1970's house. Menu choice is limited. One house salad (iceberg) option. Fried apps with zero imagination and a short entree list including a $40 filet. Portions were generous. We ate at The Decoy twice during our stay in Watkins Glen, and both visits were wonderful. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming -- it really felt like everyone, staff and diners alike, was in a good mood. The place has a warm, down-to-earth vibe that makes you feel right at home, like a true local favorite should. We specifically went back for the prime rib after reading someone mention how they prepared it just the way they liked -- we both ordered it seared and it was honestly the best prime rib I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and mouth watering. The prices were very reasonable, the portions were just right, and nothing felt overdone or pretentious. Also, don't skip the fried cheese curds -- they were amazing. If you're anywhere near the area, The Decoy is absolutely worth a stop (or two). read more

I had my first experience at this restaurant. I had passed it several times and always said that I would go back well I have the opportunity to go there today. That food was outstanding. I had the crab dips appetizer and then I had a entrée that had fish and scallops and shrimp and crabcake with the side of mashed potatoes and asparagus, and I brought home some Keylime pie. My server was terrible. She was so helpful so excited about being an employee at that restaurant which you don't see Often, which made me excited to try the food that I tried by the way I also had an apple martini so this was five out of five the best restaurant I've been to in quite a while. read more

We drove past this restaurant on our wine tasting adventures and if it weren't for the sign out front, we would've never known it was there! It looks like a little house with a small parking lot in front. We decided to stop by later on for dinner and we were so glad we did. They don't take reservations so on a Saturday evening, we got there around 4:30 pm and the place was still pretty empty. We were seated and approached very quickly by our very friendly server. She gave us menus, told us the specials and took our drink order. They have a full bar here. I ordered the breaded mushroom app and hubby ordered mozzarella sticks. It was prime rib night so I HAD to order that! The mushrooms were perfectly breaded and came with cocktail sauce, which seemed weird to me but the flavors actually worked well together! The mushrooms were a nice size too. Then the prime rib came out and OMG. It was huge! About an inch and a half thick and cooked perfectly as I ordered (medium rare). I was in heaven. My husband loved his chicken parm -- he was full about 3/4 of the way through it but loved it so much he finished it!! This is a great find and I definitely recommend a stop. read more

Ordered chicken Parmesan and broiled scallops. Neither dish was fully cooked. People can get sick eating under cooked sea food and chicken. Service was super slow but she was very nice. Half an hour wait to get the check. $2.75 for a cup of ice with a splash of soda. No worries only $2 for a refill. Wish I did not overlook that feature on the menu. Service was fantastic, very relaxed dinner for 4 adults and 1 toddler. Chicken parm is HUGE and ssooo delicious. One in our party ordered prime rib- cooked exactly how they wanted it and great flavor. Another ordered seafood Alfredo- tons of seafood in it. Nice selection of local wines at reasonable prices. Entrees come with salad, bread, veggies AND a side. Lots of locals, but we were treated as if we belonged there too. Go! We had French chicken with a salad and veggies, spaghetti with sausage and salmon with Mashed and veggies. We were recommended to go here by another business up the road. We got there before they were supposed to open (about an hour), and they let us in to eat anyway. The service was amazing! Food superb! While visiting Watkins Glen we found this amazing restaurant. The service was spectacular from the moment we walked in until we left. Overall a friendly place, which given the short supply of restaurant staff it was a pleasure to see happy wait staff. I never got our waitresses name but she was super sweet and professional. My husband had the broiled haddock which was a huge fillet and done perfectly. I ordered the pesto and sun dried tomato pasta with the grilled chicken. The pesto was a pesto genovese with pignoli nuts and it was spot on. The chicken breast was moist. This was by far the best meal we had in this area. If we are in the area again this would be a definite repeat. Anyone visiting the local wineries on route 14 if you are hungry and want an awesome meal..stop at The Decoy..you won't be disappointed. read more

I went here in a Saturday night with my family from out of town - a total of 11 of us including 4 children. They were so friendly and accommodating to our large group. The owners and wait staff were so kind to the children. Some members of our group also have food allergies (celiac/gluten) which they were well versed on and extremely accommodating. Pleasant atmosphere and very courteous and attentive staff. Menu is basic with something for all. Orders were taken promptly. This is the worst restaurant in the history of food service. The chicken French dish is basically a pool of salted butter and spaghetti topped with fried frozen chicken that definitely used preservatives. The special of the day was blackened Mahi that was like wood, with a side of mashed potatoes and instant gravy (no mistaking it). The fried zucchini was also frozen from a box packed with preservatives. Disgusting. If you're looking for a meal straight from the the local grocery frozen food section this is your place. Not once during our meal did our server offer a drink refill, or ask if we needed anything. I really don't like starting off a review on the negative side but unfortunately the negatives out weighed the positives.... Yes the dinners were reasonably priced but were just adequate for a foodie like myself and my wife...... On a positive note.....A VERY POSITIVE NOTE..... the clam dish was amazing as the broth was absolutely superb.... Even though someone should have checked for there were a few too many clams served unopened..... The blackened mahi mahi was overcooked but still tasty unfortunately though the haddock was too peppery and had no flavor..... The side veggies were diced way too small and over overcooked.... The unlimited salad was a pleasant treat but there should be more sides such as tomatoes and cucumbers.... The bake potato was what it should be.... Service was adequate most of the time.... Even though when something was missing it did take a little longer than expected to receive it..... What was very uncomfortable was the noise level where you could not hear yourself think or talk to your companion..... Sitting on chairs that were very uncomfortable and the plastic menus as well as the thin paper napkins just took away from a local joint that was supposed to be outstanding..... Not that I'm being picky but when I go out to eat I want it to be an experience not not just a meal..... Again many people I've heard have truly enjoyed their experience here.... But for us it was just not a match...... I hope you have a better experience!!!!!!! read more

This was 2 minutes from the house we rented and we wish we knew this when we got here! This place is a small town diner/bar, the waitresses are friendly and the food is yummy. We had Lizzy as our waitress, she was amazing. We ordered the chicken Cordon Bleu bites as an appetizer, the prime rib special, and chicken parm. Everything was cooked perfect! The prime rib was HUGE, chicken park also HUGE and the bites so flavorful. My husband got the salad bar free with his meal and fell in love with their homemade macaroni salad. We let Lizzy know and she even filled a container for him to take home, very sweet! The only con about this place was the lightening. Very dark for us, I like to see the food I'm eating. Can't wait to try again on our next trip! read more

I don't know our server's name, but she was awesome! We were the only people in the place, I think because there had been a huge storm and no one was coming out for dinner. Our server was really great and efficient and just conversational enough for us to get a feel of the place. The restaurant had a great menu with lots of options for vegetarians. My partner got a very huge steak which he said was wonderful (and wonderfully done) and I got a pesto pasta. My only complaint was that the pasta had a lot, a lot, of oil, but I believe that was part of the pesto sauce. It tasted just fine. The salads were good, and we did not have enough room for dessert. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone passing through on their way to Watkins Glen and beyond. read more

Came here after a long day of wine tasting. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and they had an extensive menu. We got the prime rib special which wasn't really a special because it was the same price as the daily listing in the menu. But it was a full portion, cooked to order and served with au jus. Very family friendly establishment. For us, portions huge. Very fresh salad bar. Service most attentive (in the exact right way, courteous and personable - thanks very much Chris. My husband had the rib eye and I had filet mignon Au poivre - perfection as I don't do dairy just being encrusted with crushed pepper corns it was was delicious. We had large portions of fresh vegetables cooked perfectly alongside. I would have loved to have had one of the dry local red wines but ended up with Yellow Tail. Went to decoy last night with a group of ten with reservations. Also a group of 9 there, and maybe another dozen people. One waitress. She tried hard but could not get drink orders, soup, appetizers out in a timely manner. Chose seafood Alfredo from menu, which listed scallops, shrimp, and lump crabmeat, reasonably priced at under $20. Scallops and shrimp were cooked perfectly, sauce was very good. The "lump crabmeat" was artificial crab meat (made from cod etc). I was very disappointed with this meal containing this falling apart product.
