I have been to the Union Bear in Plano and loved it. I was excited to learn that there is now a location in Denton. We went with a large group of friends and the Union Bear staff took great care of us. Everyone received their orders and their correct bills. The beer selection is huge and includes not only their beer but other brewery's beers. I like to try a variety, so I had a flight. Union Bear's Belgian Dubbel was my favorite of the 4 beers I tasted, but they were all good. The food is delicious. I had the spicy chicken sandwich. The sandwich and the fries that it came with were perfect. I was also able to sample a chicken wing and a pretzel bite from friends' orders. They were both very good, but the chicken wings were the best I have ever had. From the friendly, efficient service to the cool, party atmosphere Union Bear is a place I plan to go back to. read more

Visiting Denton on another work trip, I decided to stop in Union Bear for a dinner. It was quite a bit of a wait for seating but that typically is a sign that the food is really good. Once seated, we were greeted by the very bubbly waitress and ordered a bbq chicken pizza, Woodsman Pizza, Falafel Burger, craft beer, and blueberry lemon cake for dessert. The cake was by far the best part of the meal in my opinion. We loved the BBQ chicken pizza and the craft beer as well. The Woodsman pizza was a miss for me. It was a bit too heavy in terms of sauce and cheesiness and not what I expected from reading the menu description. But others may love it. Just wasn't for me. The falafel burger was pretty decent. Overall, I give this place a 3.5 out of 5. Very good. I will definitely try some of their other items in the future. read more

For only opening a couple of months ago, Union Bear has it together. We stopped in for a drink on a Monday, mid-afternoon. There were several people dining, but given the large size of the brewery/restaurant, there were still several tables available. We ended up sitting at the bar because we were not dining. Our bartender was super friendly. They do have a happy hour featuring some of their flagship beers, but I decided on the American wheat with blackberry. I loved this beer. I think they add blackberry puree to their wheat beer, which makes it not too sweet to the palate. My wife got a flight of 4 beers, my favorite was the hazelnut coffee stout. People sitting near us ordered food. It smelled amazing. Their pizza looks excellent. I'll definitely come back here when I'm in the area. Can't wait to try the food! read more

Food is a little pricey for what it is, but not bad. I had the chicken sandwich (no Frank's though) and it was very good, I could only eat half. My husband has the fish & chips, was not as much as expected for price but still tasty. The brussel slaw was interesting, a bit of a bite to it due to the horseradish. I also tried the mule, which was unique with hibiscus ginger beer - I do wish it were more lime-y, I like a lot of lime to my drinks and I think they just put lemon in it. Also tried their Mexican lager with lime and salt, which was decent, but a little more bitter than I prefer. We were in a private room with a large group, which was nice because it wasn't too loud to converse (can't speak for the other parts of the restaurant) and had great service, our waitress was very kind and attentive. read more

From the moment we walked in this was a truly memorable experience. The soft launch this week prior to their opening next week so we were able to test out some of the menu items. As soon as we entered, we were greeted and provided our "taste testing" options. The place is beautifully renovated with lot of care going into every detail, from the bar area to dining room and even the wallpaper! The staff are all incredible and care about their place, quality and people! My hubby and I had a beer sampler to start and they were all very good! I don't usually care for beer or IPAs at all but these are special! We started with a spicy shrimp appetizer. Crunchy, panko fried shrimp nestled on a bed of creamy, spicy Asian slaw! Yum! For entrees, we chose fish & chips and rigatoni with crumbled Italian sausage. We took bites of each dish. Both were very good! The fish dish comes with fries and another take on slaw. My pasta dish was perfectly cooked with delicious marinara and sausage. I even took 1/2 of that home! We split the lemon blueberry cake topped with blueberry compote and Beth Marie's vanilla ice cream! My oh my, it was all delicious! It was like a bread pudding really. Our dessert drink was an espresso martini. When it opens next week, I hope they take reservations because it's going to be busy! An elevated dining experience in the heart of little 'D! I had the Reuben sandwich, and it was seriously next level--stacked with tender corned beef, melty Swiss, and just the right kick from the sauerkraut. Easily one of the best I've had in a long time. Big shoutout to our server, Ashley--she was awesome! Super friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home without hovering. We recently visited the Union Bear in Denton, we had been to the Frisco/Plano location before but we really like the quaintness and decor of the Denton location. Our server Daisy was AWESOME! she was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Especially in giving good recommendations when we were between items. We got the pretzel bites to start, which were really good! The salad with blackened salmon on top and I forget what they were called but similar to a "dynamite shrimp" type dish were both really good too! Drinks were also great (my husband got a few different beers all of which he said were nice! He drinks mostly IPA drinks and is super picky so for him to find good beer is saying alot! I had a few different cocktails all of which were super refreshing on the hot day it was) we would recommend anything to eat or drink from there for sure! Super easy identifying the place. Only downside is the limited gravel parking. I went on a weekend around supper time and the place was packed with a one hour wait time. Luckily, I was about to find seats at the bar. The menu is slightly different from that of the Plano location. The pretzel bites and the beer cheese is also slightly different. The cheese was slightly runnier, compared the the thick consistency at the original location. Lovely ambiance. The service at the bar was superb and the drinks were amazing! We came here for a wedding weekend welcome dinner and it was such a great experience. The servers were attentive and helpful! At one point I wanted to order shots for the special couple and the server made sure I was able to order exactly what they wanted (salt, lime, chilled etc). We were seated in a private dining room which was also very nice! I loved the light halloween decorations as well! I got the mint condition to drink which was fruity and complimented the gin well. I also ordered the gold root mule which was flavorful and refreshing. Both drinks tasted fresh! We ordered the shrimp appetizer which had a nice light heat and sweet flavor. The fried breading gave it a nice crunch and the slaw had a great neutral flavor to balance out the powerful flavor of the shrimp. We also had the caesar salad which tasted like a classic caesar and the croutons had a great garlic flavor and fun crunch. When ordering the classic pizza we asked for the spicy sauce. such a lovely place, i've been three times so far and each time has been wonderful. the food is delicious, especially the pizza and the whole restaurant is such a cozy atmosphere and well decorated. the third time however, they got our pizza wrong, forgot a topping and had the wrong cheese but they were super busy so we completely understood, plus having worked in food service, mistakes happen! our server was so kind and understanding about it, and later the manager came over and expressed apologies as well and really, no biggie because mistakes happen, but then decided to pay for our entire meal that night!!!! the staff is truly so kind and generous, and that gesture really made our night. i wish i caught the server and manager's name so i could give them a shoutout. of course we will be coming here again :) read more

I have to say I'm a fan of the Plano location but it's always crowded and so often not able to sit at the bar where my wife and I prefer to sit. But as soon as we walked into this new location in Denton we were immediately impressed with the layout and the beautiful Bar. Found two seats pretty easily. Got Great Service from Red and ordered some food all of which was delicious. Only recommendation is for the meat and cheese board which is a much smaller and less expensive than the Plano location that actual slices of cheese are included rather than chilled cheese spread other than that great experience and look forward to returning! read more
