Overall it was a bust and repairing it wasn't worth it but I appreciated the honesty and thorough evaluation. The garage itself has access through the alley, street entrance is pretty busy. We communicated via text and phone but during drop off and pick up the main guy wasn't around. He shares the garage with someone else and that person helped us when the main guy wasn't there (sorry I can't remember his name). My girlfriends SUV developed an exhaust leak, so I took it to my favorite mechanic. He put it up on…read morethe lift, accessed the situation, and suggested taking the car it to Anchor Muffler. He said they were great trustworthy guys who have been in business forever, and were well suited for this repair. I thanked him and headed right over. They are located on the southeast corner of Anaheim Blvd and E North Street. The parking lot in front is small and was mostly occupied, but there were a few spots available when I arrived at their 8am opening time. I walked in and spoke to Junior at the front desk. I explained the situation and he said they would take a look at it right away. They pulled the car into the shop, and I could see the technician looking under the hood and under the chassis. Then I heard Junior on the phone getting parts prices from their supplier. In only about ten minutes after taking my keys, he confirmed my suspicion that the exhaust manifold was cracked. He gave me a quote to replace it which seemed very reasonable. He also mentioned they would have to check to see if the catalytic converter was plugged up because any back-pressure from that could cause the same problem again. If that was the case and it needed replacing, it would cost a lot more. I crossed my fingers and told them to go ahead and start working on it. Junior called me later that afternoon, and told me they were close to finishing the job and that we could head over. He said the catalytic converter had some cracks on it, but that it should probably be fine. When we arrived at the shop, he actually showed us the broken exhaust manifold that was replaced. He also showed us some pictures they took of the cracks in the catalytic converter. It is pretty rare for any shop to actually show you the broken parts that were replaced. I'm sure a lot of less reputable shops would have blindly told me the catalytic converter had cracks and needed to be replaced. I really appreciate their honesty and concern for potentially spiraling repair costs. Junior was very friendly and personable. They inspected the car immediately upon arrival, and gave an accurate estimate quickly. Communication was great, and thankfully no further repairs were needed beyond the original estimate. It is rare to go to an auto shop and they give you two estimates XX and XXXX and you only end up paying XX, and not getting pitched a bunch of other things they recommend. Five stars all the way for Anchor Muffler.

The gentleman on the phone said the transmission fluid is for life unless I'm towing or carrying heavy loads. When I questioned why I see that it's recommended online he says that dealers will recommend this service all day but if you check the Toyota maintenance manual it says you don't need it. Man! I haven't even been to this shop yet and I'm already getting a good feeling about this place. It's a bit more expensive for an oil change than other places that have quoted me, but I like that they use factory parts including Toyota oil filters. I'll update this review once I get the car in for my first visit. Stay tuned.... 6/29/26 - Brought my Sienna in for an oil change + complimentary 30-point inspection (since it was my first time there). Jared took the van for a spin, brought it back and lifted it up. They found a little oil seepage coming out of the transfer case. I let them know that I did see a transfer case drain/fill on the CarFax report before I bought it. Jared thinks they just didn't torque it properly so they were going to retorque and clean up around the area and keep an eye on it. Worst case scenario, they would need to order a new drain plug gasket and I'd have to come back to get it replaced. Thankfully, the drain plug just needed to get tightened. I was in and out in almost exactly an hour just as Robert promised. Thanks The Toy Shop team!! Pro Tip: they are booked out at least a week in advanced so make your appointment ASAP!
