It was ok. When I walked in, I thought I was about to receive the best mani/pedi I'd ever had, because It's very clean and welcoming in there and the staff was friendly. However, I asked for a VERY simple design on my nails and received something so bad it was laughable. These were my nails for my WEDDING!! I couldn't believe she let me walk out of these with my nails looking like this. I had to go back the next day and get them redone by them which they kindly did at no extra charge. Clean, but the customer service is a hit or miss. Some of the staff look like they don't like working there. I felt a tense vibe. Easy to book online. However, I'm disappointed that the no-chip manicure doesn't even last a week. After 2 days, it is already chipping/peeling off. If it's already chipping, then you might as well get the non chip one and half the price. Another thing, I had to remind the lady to file/clip my nails before she applied nail polish since they were uneven a few times . They are 2 min from me walking wise, and I thought I would have a go-to place, but not this one. I have been to them a few times over the years (once a year to treat myself), hoping it will be better, and I am finished coming here. If you are looking at a last-minute place and don't care, then I guess go. It's definitely a no-go for non chip nails. read more

I've been hitting this place up for the last year or so. It's small scale nail shop that's clean. I've gotten no chips, dips, pedicures, apres x gel and every time they really do a fantastic job. I'm currently obsessed with the apres x gel nails. They typically last on me for 3.5-4 weeks! Amazing! I've been to Rosa, Maria, and Maya. They all did a great job. I'm semi partial to Rosa. I'm so happy that Ileana & Wendy have their own spot now...super cool! I have been going to Wendy for several months now since I moved to Wicker Park. This location is super convenient to walk to from home which is fantastic. I've done different things with them including pedicures but I mostly go for the dip manicures. I'm actually going to try tips this week for the first time in my life, yay holidays! Their prices are reasonable and I always have a fun time when I go hanging with Wendy. Plus they're always playing great things on Netflix...they turned me onto The Haunting of Hill House! They have a great color selection and for a few extra dollars, they can add some cool nail art. We did some incredible Mrs. Incredible nails for Halloween! Loved them. One of my favorite parts of the salon is that they have an app which you can book all of your appointments through. It makes everything incredibly convenient. Another favorite part is the couple minutes of massaging Wendy does for me at the end. I'm in heaven! I've been so happy with Underground Nail Art since I moved to Wicker. By the way, they are literally underground, located under the Alex Lopez salon. 12/2019; Sucks to give this nail salon one star. Wendy is great but the owner Ileana needs a book on customer service & business acumen + how to treat dark-skinned customers the same as her White clientele. Since most people have a difficult time acknowledging their short-comings here is an example Ileana; (1) I've noticed darker skinned (non Hispanic) customers waiting for extended periods WITH an appointment. As soon as a White customer arrives she pushes Wendy to finish my nails in a hurry so the White customer doesn't have to wait. (2) today I'm waiting on Ileana to finish a pedicure and start on my nails. I arrived at 455pm for a 5pm appointment. It's now 545pm and no one has touched my nails. Nor has Ileana acknowledged that she is very behind with my appointment. What's the point of an appointment if you still have to wait an hour?? It's now 845pm, I just got home from Underground (I live 10 mins away mind you. Gel nail fill-in plus two nails have a bunch of cheap crystals, let's call this "nail art" for laughs & giggles. AFTER MY NAILS WERE DONE Illeana tried to charge me $1 for each cheap crystal or $28 for each finger, after spending 3.5 hours in her "salon" for not much (blank stare). 05/2019; FINALLY!!!! a decent nail artist in Chicago with a flexible schedule! I'm HOOKED! I would define this salon as a high end specialty nail salon (they can do a variety of nail art) but with the most reasonable prices I've seen. I really think they are able to have lower prices because they have such a high volume of clientele. I had the pleasure of Iliana doing my nails and she was SO detailed. She took her time and you can tell she wants your nails to be PERFECT! She mentioned she's been doing nails for ~10 years and it shows. In my time at the salon a few customers came in, and the salon new them by name. Always a good sign when there are regulars - and now they can add me to that list! Side note: I typically get no chip manicures, but Yelp has a 1st time customer $5 off for Dip coupon, so I was able to take advantage of that. Wendy did an awesome job on my Thanksgiving nails! I was looking through Pinterest, as one does, and came across tortoise shell patterns for nails and wanted to give it a try. I called the place closest to me, but they don't do designs, so I looked around and found Underground Nail Art on Yelp (go figure!). She brought me wine right when i got seated, the water was the perfect temperature, and my pedicure was awesome. I called yesterday at 1:15 to see if they were busy, or had time for me to come in at 1:30. Ileana told me to come on in, and I'm so glad I did! Ileana did a wonderful Job on my nails. She was incredibly attentive to the shape of my nails, and when cutting my cuticles. I've never seen someone apply polish so flawlessly! The results were fantastic. I have found my go-to nail place in Chicago! Note: I wanted the jelly nail trend on my natural nails, which is why the polish is sheer. We had an appointment but waited for 20-30 minutes.The nail techs gave my sister and I manicures that look worse than what would be done at home. I am under the impression that the staff must be new and must have little past experience. My sister got a regular manicure and was horribly injured on 5 of her nails. My second terrible experience here. I got the same lady twice. I got a regular pedi and no chip mani. The pedicure is fine. Their chairs are comfortable and they use clean instruments. The manicure was a nightmare. To begin I asked her specifically NOT to cut my cuticles and she proceeded to do it on every nail even when I pulled my hand away. The shaping of my nails is atrocious. I really hate reading all these nasty bad reviews, because they are all erroneous lies and dramatizations. Everyone who works here does an amazing job. I can be in a bad mood walking in but I leave with a smile. These women bust their asses so our nails look amazing. They work 7 days a week and on holidays to satisfy the needs of their current clients and hopeful future clients. Here is a quick tip. 1. Book your appointment online, and keep it. Varago is the app to use. 2. Just because someone offers you a glass of wine doesn't mean you get the bottle. 3. Don't try and walk in at closing time expecting service. They have lives and families. 4. Girl, they did not discolor or chip your nails. YOU DID. Take some responsibility for once. If I had any complaints, because well I am human, my only compliant is Mya's taste in Netflix - haha. Also they make their own skincare products. My nails have always been super thin and quick to break. I gave up on normal manicures a long time ago because I would chip the nail polish within a day. Thankfully I met Ily who introduced me to dipping powder. For almost a year now my nails have been able to grow long, rarely breaking, and always look presentable because of dipping powder and Ily's expert knowledge and care. Wendy has also been wonderful stepping in and taking care of me whenever she is available, and the two of them together is entertaining to say the least! I really wanted to like this place, it's cute, near home, and they take online appointments. Unfortunately after only 5 days my no chip manicure looks disgusting. I have been getting a no chip manicure every 2 weeks for the last 4 years, often white or very light pink, but I have never seen discoloring like this. My nails look dirty and brown and I'm going to have to get my nails redone immediately because I'm honestly embarrassed of what they look like. Went here when out of town to get a refresh, Wendy is amazing and so personable. She will chat with you the whole time and make sure you leave with a design you love. I was obsessed with my nails! The only thing I wish was different was the application of the dip powder. It was a little different from my regular place at home and didn't have a strong top coat. I came here as a walk in, which I wouldn't recommend unless you don't mind waiting. It seems like most people make an appointment. The ladies were very nice and friendly! I received a pedicure and dipping powder for my nails. My nails came out beautifully... But unfortunately began to in less than a week.. Less than 2 weeks my nails were in shambles.. I've been getting the dipping powder on my nails for about 2 years. So I know is applied correctly it can last about 3 weeks. I paid $85 total, which included a $10 fee for removing my last set of dipping powder nails from "another place".. I disagree with the fee, simply because I was getting a new set, so why does it matter where I got the current set done?? Overall pleasurable experience in the salon, but I won't return and can't recommend as my nails didn't hold up considering the price I paid. read more
