Only bought a cute Fluff and Tuff blue lobster toy for my 3 dogs because the saleswomen did a good job explaining how it was made different and tougher than other toys. 900 miles later I finally was able to give it to them, but less than 10 minutes later there was already a hole forming. Less than 20 minutes later the squeaker and all the stuffing was torn out before my other two boys had their chance to play with it. Pretty disappointed the toy failed to live up to the hollow sales pitch, now I've got 3 unhappy pups wondering what why they no longer have a gift from my trip to Portland :( read more

We love the pet shop!! We came here a few years ago the last time we were in Portland, and dang how this place has grown! The shop is super cute and has all the treats and puppy apparel you could want! Their collars and leashes are hand stitched by the owner and they are BEAUTIFUL! Uncommon Paws is your one stop shop for dog clothing and other goodies located in Portland's Old Port on exchange street. We were in earlier this winter looking for a hat (haha I know a hat for a DOG!) as my little terrier mix gets cold ears on those walks on the windy beach, snowshoeing, etc. as she's gotten older she needs more warmth. Well lucky for us, they had everything from alpaca knit hats to fleece lined bomber style hats, you name it. They also had A TON of rain and snow jackets that were definitely of better quality and clothing coverage for your dog than others I've seen elsewhere. Bandannas, collars, fleece and flannel shirts, backseat covers for your vehicle, treats and many other odds and ends to explore. Only downside is the cost can hit you hard at the register for some items, but others are appropriately priced for quality. Staff is friendly and have asked if we needed help with smiles. Returning was a breeze for the time we decided didn't fit. I'll be back. Recommended. read more

Super cute store in downtown run by a sweet couple. We got several things for our pup including bandanas and some toys. He absolutely loves the squeaky toys! When we got home we realized the bandanas were a little too small for him and they kindly let us ship them back and they replaced them with bigger sizes! I LOVE this place. The husbands and wife who own it are the sweetest people. They ALWAYS remember me and my dog. My dog also remembers them and will try to pull her way into the store if we're walking by. I've asked for tons of recommendations- tough chewer toys, puzzle toys, winter coat, treats, cooling vest, and sale items. They just moved to this location, bigger than the previous place and it's so nice. It also means more room for more high quality products. My best friend got a cat and I got a few cat toys from UP that the cat loved. The wife makes all of the collars and leashes and I would HIGHLY recommend. I've seen similar styles in other pet stores around and they don't look as good as these and are much lower quality.My dog is a chewer, she can get an antler from 6 inches to the size of grape in a week. She 's chewed on two of these leashes, and although there's a few tears she hasn't been able to chew through it. UP happy to do repairs, but I never actually bring my leash in because it's still fine. My dog also is a puller and my UP leash is going strong My dog has successfully eaten completely through multiple of leashes and harnesses from other places. I love finally having a leash that lasts and I can stop throwing away money. I also really like the hardware- it's secure enough that it won't fall or be pulled off if she gets loose. read more

I don't even have a dog but I would go back every time I'm in Portland because it was so cute and the people working were so wonderful! They had a ton of adorable doggy collar bows which are made by the wife of the employee I was speaking with(maybe they owner? Not sure). He was super knowledgeable about the product though and was very proud of the bows and they were very cute and well done so I don't blame him! I bought one for a friends dog and a lobster toy he recommended for my dog nephew. I actually wandered in while I was waiting in line for holy donut and am glad that I did! Was the store cute, Yes. Was the lady nice, Yes. But after convincing me to buy a $32.99 toy by promising me it was super tough, I left the store happy and willing to write a nice review. Then I get home, and my golden pup destroyed in inside of an hour.But ya know, that happens right. I have a puppy...throwing money away is to be expected. But. I look up the company that made the toy only to find out that the $32.99 toy was really only $14.99 retail from the manufacturer. I know small businesses need to make money, but for that much of a markup, I will shop online guilt free from now on. read more

Uncommonly rude! We stopped in here during the old Port Festival. Saw a few things which would be handy for our new puppy. Asking a question about one of the collars, the lady had it a bit of an attitude. Then we saw a paw washing cup which sounded very handy. They had signs on them that said try me, so we tried to tempt our dog to put her paw in. As soon as I picked it up to try, the lady snapped at me and said she couldn't sell it if we did that. There was specifically a sign on it that said try me! We pointed that out but she was still rude about it, so we basically ran away. Never will go back, nor should anyone else. read more

This was such a cute shop! We visited back in September and bought a shirt for our Yorkie. We dragged our feet with returning the purchase as it was too small for his bigger frame. We wanted to send the shirt back to allow another doggie to be able to wear it and they were kind of enough to resend one back in a bigger size. Everyone in this store was helpful and they had a LARGE variety of collars. Designs I've never seen and with very expressive colors. They even offered to ship a handmade collar in one week since they didn't have my pupper's size. I bought two collars and a puzzle toy for my fur baby and the ONLY reason why I didn't have a 5 star experience is because I didn't have pupper with me! This was a cute little pet shop down in town that I decided to pop into. The guilt of leaving my puppy with grandma while I was on vacation got to me I guess. I wanted to find something cute for my little man and I did. The store had a lot of cute little outfits, collars, leashes, and treats for all sizes. I opted on a little bow tie attachment for his collar. This was really cool because I can just slip it into the collar he already has. They had many different prints and sizes of these bow ties as well. I believe it was $10 which is an okay price, especially since the lady at the register advised me they are hand made. The shop itself was small but well stocked. There was only one employee at the register when I was there and she did not seem very friendly. Found this small store years ago. They were very informative about what would and would not fit my dog. I have a Great Dane and it's not always easy finding collars or clothing to fit him. We spend our summers in Portland, and we dropped in last summer to buy my pup a harness. They measured her, we chose the ribbon and they made it up for her. That harness gets compliments all the time. Not only that, but it's easy to put on, extremely sturdy and fits perfectly. This is a charming store owned by nice people with unique products they make themselves. Drop by the next time you go to Holy Donuts! Stumbled on the store on our Maine trip and we're in love! I like checking out boutique pet stores. But these stores often carry the same boutique brands (all kinda the same). This store is different. Many items in the store and made in house by the owner. Beautifully crafted collars, leashes, beds etc. They also have locally made treats featuring lobster meat, Maine blueberries etc. The owner was very helpful and could tell you a story about each item they sold.
