Our dog Lucy has been coming to your business for 5-6 years, since we moved to Searsport and has…read moreseemed to weather the experience with a few behavioral issues after being left for several days. We would pick her up and she was a "hyper-fit" but soon settled back into our home routine after reassurance, a shower and much brushing. We picked her up yesterday and she was so glad. She was also shining clean and had been brushed out , toenails trimmed (really well). She was less stressed, even when coming home into the house. She was glad to be home as always but way more comfortable with being gone. We had a repair man stop by today, and for the first time ever, she didn't run out barking and trying to scare him off, she was watchfull, but not threatening . Not sure how you managed this, but whoever is working there now , THANK YOU, for taking such good care of her and helping with her training. Kerry Dougherty & Dick Dyer

The business is under new management and the new staff is extremely rude. It took 3 phone calls…read moreover a few days to get a return phone call. I had several questions because the ownership is new and I am not familiar with their policies. The female was clearly irritated by my questions and she kept telling me to look at the website, which I had already done. My questions were specific to what I needed to provide for a dog that takes daily medication and if my dog could have 1-on-1 exercise/play time because she doesn't do well with other dogs. I also had a question regarding vaccinations; the prior owners would tell us when their records showed a vaccination was due. Also, we've boarded our dogs in kennels in other states that want kennel cough vaccination every 6 months (even though the vet states it's annual). When asking for clarification, she kept telling me to call my vet and would not answer any questions regarding 'their' requirements specific to kennel cough vaccination. When I finally told her that I didn't appreciate her attitude, she explained that I had an attitude and promptly cancelled my dog's reservation, telling me to find another kennel. We have been using Canine Country Club for years with nothing but GREAT experiences. I met the new owner a few days ago (she owns Paws and Claws in Belfast as well) and I thought she was nice, but apparently the owner told the staff person that I was rude when I stopped by. The only reason I stopped by was because we were driving past the kennel and I needed a reservation in just 2 days. I was hesitant to make my hotel reservations without knowing I had a reservation for my dog. The owner told me to go right ahead and make my travel reservations and assured me that she had a spot for my dog. I thanked her for her time and told her it was nice to meet her. Apparently the experience was not mutual since she told her staff I was rude. We already found another kennel to use and their staff was extremely helpful and professional. It's a shame that customer service is now nonexistent at Canine Country Club and the courtesy of returning phone calls and answering questions of customers is a huge inconvenience. I don't think they will do well with the current staff..... Apparently they don't recognize that customers have options too.

Unbelievably bad experience. Just seconds after Dr. Lebouf delivered the devastating news that my…read moregirl had terminal bone cancer, she launched into a self-righteous lecture about the dangers of grain-free diets. She quoted studies and strongly implied that my feeding choices had caused or contributed to her demise. She even added, "I know it's too late for B, but I know you have another dog and want to protect them." I was too overwhelmed by grief and tears to respond in the moment, but several things went through my mind: * I have no idea why she assumed B was on a grain-free diet. Not even true * This is classic "blame-shifting" but why? * There is no chance shelf stable slop pellets have better outcomes for animals than fresh food diets, I suspected whatever study she referring is going to be about pulse diets, where food slop companies swap out rice for anti-nutrients like chickpeas (terrible for dogs and actually leech nutrients, mostly indigestible). When they asked about her diet, I believe I just said "mostly home made - fresh meat and vegetables." I never said I gave them grain free kibble. I feed my dogs a balanced fresh-food diet (meats, vegetables, and rice in proper ratios, with age- and condition-specific supplements) about 80% of the time. When I can't prepare fresh meals, they get premium kibble (that contains rice), mixed with high-quality wet food. There is zero evidence in the scientific literature comparing a properly balanced fresh diet to commercial kibble. The studies Dr. Lebouf referenced appear to be the familiar ones comparing grain-inclusive kibble to "grain-free" kibble formulas that simply replace grains with pulses and legumes. That is not the same as comparing fresh food to kibble, and it is misleading to present it that way. Earlier this year I brought B in after she suddenly started limping in pain. They diagnosed arthritis and a soft tissue injury, charged $500 for imaging, and sent us home with pain medication. It's hard not to wonder whether the cancer was missed at that visit, considering it was in the exact location. B was a rescue who had endured severe abuse and malnutrition in her early years. She arrived terrified of everyone, trembling and submissive. For some reason she chose to trust me. Within a year she had visibly grown, gained confidence, and become the sweetest, most loving dog. She wasn't supposed to be mine forever, but we became inseparable. Losing her has been heartbreaking. I waited a long time before writing this review. I didn't want it to come purely from grief or anger. I understand that cancer can be difficult to catch, and I wouldn't be writing this if the only issue had been a missed diagnosis. I'm writing because of the condescending, sanctimonious way Dr. Lebouf spoke to me during this moment. She quoted science in a misleading way - I believe - because she either didn't actually read it or doesn't understand what it says. To be clear - there are NO STUDIES comparing grain free fresh food diets to kibble with grains. But this is how it was framed as if gospel. It was so inappropriate, but also inaccurate. I can only assume this is being preached repeatedly to other pet parents at the clinic. Many other staff members at the clinic are genuinely kind and great with animals.

They consistently follow through on every promise, even going above and beyond what is expected. Our dog, Daisy, is very attached to us and hates when we leave, but we return to a happy, spoiled dog every single time. We use the dog walking, in-home visits, and pawjama party (overnight) services and have been completely happy with the communication (frequent messages/photos), timeliness, and friendliness. Their extensive training and expertise shows through their depth of compassion and care. On one occasion, due to circumstances out of our control, we had a major change to our arrival date/time. Michele was flexible and pleasant, allowing us to make the necessary changes to return home safely. She brought calm to a very stressful situation. I have always been very choosy about who I leave Daisy with. I prefer professionals who are trained for medical emergencies, encountering a hostile animal, taking respectful care of your home, etc. Never once have I been concerned about using Maine Sitters. When I am away, I do not worry or stress about Daisy or our home. I know they are in good hands with people I trust and that is a gift I do not take lightly. We are so grateful to be in their service area and I recommend their services wholeheartedly with no reservations.
