A great selection!
Kerrie D.

My husband and I really like the products that The Animal House carries and shop their regularly for our dog food and other dog related stuff. The prices tend to be a bit high, but to be fair, I have found that to be pretty much true for certain high end dog foods no matter where you shop. The reason I am giving them 3 starts instead of 4 or 5 is for what I have experienced as a pretty consistent response of judgement from the staff whenever I ask a question. To really describe what i'm talking about, here are some examples: "Do you think this could be a good chew toy for my dog" (already described the dog's stats) "This one is better. Make sure you don't give your dog real tennis balls!" "We were looking to switch dog food, our dog has been having bad gas" "This is a good choice. Make sure you are not over feeding. Don't feed him anything but dog food (we don't). Grapes are bad for dogs (I didn't even mention grapes!) "Where are the leashes?" "Never leave your dog off leash" (????) Either i must look like a person who might lead a dog to disaster (NEVER!), or the staff here feels ok giving unsolicited advice to dog owners. It is not extreme, just feels like a mom wagging a finger at a child. Kind of a drag.

Happy to try these!

So after hearing Beneful wasn't the best dog food for my furry kid I decided to check out a place I had heard great things about. The Animal House is located near Kohl's and has plenty of options and locally made items. I talked to Donna for a long time about different options & ideas. She showed me what would work best and was really patient and explained everything. I went with "Wellness Complete Health" for my dog and even picked Dave's wet cat food for the kitties. They have a frequent buyers club & they host an adoptable pet from The Animal Refuge League. Check it out. Amazingly knowledgeable & kind staff.

I know this is a major retail chain but despite that have had mostly positive experiences here…read more Sometimes it can take a long while to check out but staffing is an issue for every business so I get that. The strongest positive I can say about this store is that it is where my wife and I have bought our ferrets. They have been healthy and happy in both the sense of when we bought our lovely pets but also anytime we have seen others here available to purchase they have seemed to be well treated and healthy. I know this cannot always be said for some of these major pet chain stores. They do offer a selection of ferret accessories as well such as hammocks/toys/food for some examples. The staff have been friendly during our interactions and try their best to help when we have questions. The store is kinda outdated in some sense and could be cleaned up in some places too. It's kinda what you'd expect from a Petco really.

DO NOT take your pet there for vaccinations. I was in line for my dog - Jax - to get his shots…read more There was an owner with a kitten in front of me. I was already hesitant because no one acknowledged me and the vet (woman - short gray hair) looked at me and walked away. I was told I would have paperwork to fill out - nothing! The owner of the kitten went to the exam area (open area) and the vet was dismissive of her questions- she said she needed to draw blood - there were 2 techs with the vet. THIS VET POKED THAT KITTEN 4 times and STILL COULDN'T hit a vein. All I could hear was that kitten crying out. The whole store heard it!!! The vet just didn't care - she was going to keep on going until she was confronted with her ineptitude- then she started yelling. Other customers were visibly upset and said they would never go there for any kind of pet services. DO NOT GO THERE!

I recently adopted a new little ball of fluff - so I have been frequenting this place quite a bit…read moreas of late. First and foremost, this is where I bring my little Milli for her grooming - she had her first one this week! Michelle groomed my little Zoey's hair for over 15 years and when Michelle left another location and moved here - you can bet I didn't hesitate to follow her. She is truly amazing - patient, kind, and so VERY GOOD at what she does. This place also has a wide array of pet food, treats, and other various supplies. I have found that the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful when I'm looking for products. And, they also remember and recognize you and your pet(s) - even the ones that aren't yours that you show up with on occasion! Lastly, they are just dog people here! They have openly told me that it's totally okay to bring my pup here on those cold days when it's not safe outside - and to just walk her around the store for exercise - no purchase necessary. It's things like that that keep you coming back.

I'm fully convinced The Dog Wash Etc. team healed my pup's nail trim trauma!…read more A little backstory: years ago, I used to bribe and singlehandedly wrangle my shepherd rescue mutt -- Layla -- in order to trim her nails at home. It was never an easy task to tackle alone. After about 4 years, I tragically hit the quick of one of her black nails. Fast forward to now 8-year-old, 65-lb Layla, who still won't let me near her with clippers. I've had to outsource the torturous task to her vet and groomers since that fateful day. Once she associates a place with nail trims, though, she resists entry and tries to find the nearest exit. The Dog Wash Etc. has proven to be a rare exception to this rule, which is a testament to the positive experiences we've had there. Evie skillfully handled and warmly gained Layla's trust during our first visit and again several weeks later (bonus: the trim kept Layla's pawdicure needs at bay much longer than usual) It doesn't hurt that the Pets on Point store has cookies (and a whole shop full of goodies) for a post-trim treat. Punch card rewards or not, Evie and the Dog Wash team have earned our loyalty. I am eager to try the actual dog washes next... although Layla is as enthusiastic about baths as she is about nail trims!
