First of all, Uncle Momo is, in a cozy way, just beautiful -- from the mirrors running along the walls to the fascinating Parisian signs and quirky international knickknacks, to the historic family photographs in the vestibule leading to the WC. The food is a blend of Moroccan and Lebanese. My favorite is the Ouzi with Chicken a combination of rice, slivered almonds, peas and corn all baked inside a pastry that looks small when it comes but bursts open with a wonderful aroma and turns into a wholly fulfilling meal. Judy likes to get one of the pizzas which are flat, nothing like what you might get elsewhere. I just tried the Salmon Shish Kabob. It was spicy, which you don't expect with salmon, but I quickly grew to love it. May become my new fave. Last, but usually first, the appetizers. We love the hummus, the spinach and chickpea, and the rahib; but all of them are good. Or you can order the Momo Meze for a selection of six of the eight. They don't automatically come with pita. For $1 they are each baked fresh. One more note. Don't expect this restaurant to be what you expect. Uncle Momo is an original. Deliciously original. read more

I WANT to rate higher. Truly I do. Valentine's Day reservations through Open Table. No call to confirm, no email. Slightly paranoid, I called ahead to check, and yes all was well, so I shouldn't have worried but this is the first time I've ever NOT gotten a follow up call from a reservation. Restaurant is small, with limited seating. They have big giant stuffed bears to separate the spaces so big marks for ingenuity there! Service felt like an afterthought here. Nothing was technically wrong or bad, but the overall vibe was less "thank you for your patronage" and more "Oh ok you want something hold on, btw here's the the check." Limited staffing of course leads to this so I imagine they were stressed out and the Valentine's Day rush take out orders were piling up. One gentleman working however, only wore the face shield without a mask (?????). I observed him sneeze, face shield UP, then put it back down and return to work without washing hands. I am so very glad this happened AFTER all our food had been delivered and my date and I were only nursing the wine. I mean, really. In a panny? During a PATRICIA? Let's talk food. Asked for a bit of pita with olive oil to snack on. We got the olive oil .... but no pita. Momo Pitza was delicious. Perfect flavors, thin crust. Chicken tanjine was packed with flavor. Really enjoyed it, the dish isn't something I've ever had before. Served with basmati rice, it feels like a true classic meal. My wife ordered the rack of the lamb; expertly prepared with the perfect level of red showing through. Dessert was cremé brûlée for the both of us. No caramelization on either of them, and they were clearly taken from the freezer maybe only only minutes before serving. Every other bite was taken with ice crystals. Very disappointing. Moroccan cappuccino was flavorful, lightweight and foamed quite well. I really enjoyed Uncle Momo, atmosphere is incredible, menu is wonderful. Best hummus I've ever had. The salmon was made to perfection. The grilled veggies were amazing. I really enjoyed my meal.

Finally came here for dinner one night when we were in the area. So glad we decided to try it! The restaurant is Lebanese-French style and has very cute decorations and atmosphere. It felt like being in Europe. I love Mediterranean food so was excited to see what they had to offer. It was a tough decision as everything sounded quite good. We tried the mujadara appetizer which was delicious! Very fresh and flavorful. For my entree I had the lamb moussaka. I've had moussaka a few times at home since my dad makes it and this one was just as good! It was very meaty and tomatoey and had great flavor. The only thing it needed was maybe some rice or bread to dip in some of the sauce since it was rather liquidy. I can't wait to go back here and try another dish and probably their hummus. The pita bread is homemade and looks great. And they have dessert which I didn't try since I was too full at the end. It is also BYOB so you can drink whatever you want. read more

Looking for a new Mediterranean cuisine to indulge in. Uncle Momo did pretty good satisfying. Started with the mujadara for an appetizer. Well worth it for 2 people, maybe 3. Deliciously and generously drizzled with oil and lemon juice, definitely recommended. For entree I was trying to decide between the specialty salmon and the Branzino - the bass. Draft recommended the bass. Definitely hit the spot. Baked and spices well and the pistachio crust for crispiness was great. The spinach and rice that come with the meal were ok nothing particularly special about them and could've benefited from some sort of flair to enhance it. It's BYOB like most places in the area, I'm glad to find another Mediterranean place to go to with good service and solid eats. Next time I'd like to try their 'pitza'. read more

First time trying Uncle Momo. We placed our order online and it said pick up in 35 minutes. We arrived there about 30 minutes later and it turns out that the kitchen had not even started cooking our food yet because the order was not brought to the kitchen. This is a flaw in their online ordering system. Normally, I would let something like that go if the food made up for it, but, sadly, the food was subpar. We had the mixed grill and falafel sandwich. I have been here several times for brunch and never been disappointed. I consider this place a hidden gem since the neighborhood is always busy with long lines during brunch hours but I always seem to get a seat here without waiting. Can't explain why and I hope I'm not jinxing myself. The restaurant is a cozy space that is usually filled with regulars and friendly staff. I almost always get the falafel plate and/or the Tunisian eggs. Make sure to get there fresh baked pita to dip into the eggs! There hummus is also out of this world. At the end of my meal, I like to order a cup of Turkish coffee and I highly recommend you do the same. The feel of the restaurant is intimate and almost set up like a small cafe. The restaurant was hopping on a Thursday evening around 7:00, but the service was quick and attentive. My friend and I began with the hummus appetizer and it was delicious. It was creamy and light and had some chopped tomato to garnish it, which definitely added to the freshness. Like other reviewers have stated, I was disappointed that the pita was not included with the hummus. Though, to give the restaurant a break, the homemade pita is a nice sized portion, and if you order two pita for two people you'll be all set. My friend ordered the falafel sandwich and I ordered the chicken pitza. The chicken pitza was delicious and had many flavors that complimented each other. It consists of lemon marinated chicken with garlic, red bell pepper, scallion and parsley. It was delicious, and even better as leftovers for lunch! My friend said her falafel sandwich was good as well, and I would have had a taste if I wasn't so full from the pitza. What a cute cozy restaurant in the Montclair area. I have to say that this place does have great food and it's BYOB. However I felt like the service was lacking a bit. I know what it's like to be a sever because I've worked in the restaurant business. But I just felt like the server was annoyed with our table. We ordered everything from an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Everything was amazing! For the hummus the pita isn't included with it. It's sold separately which I found kind of odd because usually in other restaurants when you order hummus pita is included. If your planning on ordering the hummus expect to pay for each one you want for about $1.00 each which is ridiculous in my opinion. The Nutella crepe and Turkish coffee was phenomenal! First and likely last time ordering from Uncle Momo. Ordered food for delivery tonight directly through the restaurant to help them reduce their overhead charges instead of through a platform like DoorDash or UberEats (big mistake). A 45min ETA turned into well over an hour and a half wait. When I called the restaurant to inquire about my food arrival, they were dismissive and said they were busy and hung up on me. Needless to say, the food arrived ice cold and the beverages that came with the "social distancing" entree specials were spilled entirely all over the takeout bags. The delivery driver ran off before I could even say anything. As far as the food goes, (which I had to reheat), it was average at best. My husband didn't care for the lamb koftka kebab and said it was bland. The chicken shawarma was decent, but I found the lentil soup to be very salty. So tonight we came for so middle eastern Labanese food. The food was good. There was sitting outside which was nice. It was funny because inside there was dining but there was a lot of tables that were occupied by giant stuffed bears with masks on which I thought was cute. That's one way to social distance. The food was OK I liked the hummus except it was a small portion and instead of getting complementary bread that comes with that, you had to pay for pita bread which I found weird being I am Mediterranean myself and if you do t have bread, what are you suppose to dip the hummus in? We had a lovely lunch here. There are only about 5 tables so double check availability before heading over there. I used Opentable. We would have had a table anyway, we went at 1:30 on a Thursday so all the tables were available. We really enjoyed our food. The Merguez sausage was absolutely delicious. Their pita, hummus, and babaganoush were delicious. The lamb kofta was a little under seasoned, but the accompanying rice was delightful. Service was good, and our food took around 25 minutes. We weren't in a rush, so we didn't have a problem with this but just know it's a leisurely, relaxed pace. We will definitely come back. read more

This is a cute brunch spot in Montclair. They offer a Moroccan style breakfast. Everything is fresh and made to order. Their hummus is amazing! It is the perfect consistency and flavored well with fresh olive oil. I ordered the Momo bfast. It came with hummus, fresh pita, fries, scrambled eggs, sour cream, salad, and a small tabouleh salad. I ordered a side of turkey bacon. It tasted great. It was nice and crispy and not oily. My friend who is a regular and recommend the place ordered the benedict. My sis ordered the Tunisian eggs. Purely based on experience of not being served. We had a confirmed reservation on OpenTable for 2:45 pm, got there at 2:35 pm and were informed that the kitchen was closed. I indicated that we had a confirmed reservation but they said that OpenTable does not show accurate slots and they don't know how to fix it. This is a small hidden gem in the area. We were (18 people 10 Adults and 8 Kids) looking for a lunch place after a small hike. We made a reservation and took kids to a play area where they were playing!! They called us and rushed us asking if we were gonna show up as their kitchen was closing at 2.30pm. We were kind of hesitant to go there as it was already 2pm but went there regardless and placed the order over the phone before reaching the restaurant. To our surprising, food was Amazing!! We wanted to order more after we started the food but was said they can't take any more orders. Other than the timing, it's definitely a go back place again for us. Kids and Adults all loved the food. We ordered some sides as well. Ordered Lamd Pitza as well but couldn't take a pic as everyone rushed to take their slices ;). Lamb was cooked so well and tasty. Met a couple of friends here for lunch recently. Atmosphere was quite eclectic with its odds and ends for decor. Food was very good I had the Goldie lox omelette with a small salad and breakfast potatoes. Service was a little slow, but friendly. The only negative was it was very warm in the dining area, but if you need to cool off just hit their bathroom it was nice and cool. I guess they were having A/C issues. We arrived on 07/07 at 08:36pm and were told *rudely* that we wouldn't be seated because they close at 9pm.
