I've been here several times and I love it! This will transport you to Morocco without the plane ticket. The ambiance is truly incredible as it's filled with Moroccan furniture, artwork, rugs, pillows and light fixtures. Highly recommend going on a Friday or Saturday around 7-7:30pm. Their belly dancing show is around 8 and does charge a $3 fee. Bring cash to tip the dancer! It's a great experience while you enjoy your dinner. It is a prefix on the weekend, but SO worth it. The only option you can choose it the main which are choices of lamb, chicken or fish for your party. Pictured I posted are the dishes that were included with the prefix. They have hookah for extra charge. I would suggest making reservations as this place does get booked up. Highly recommend! Definitely go with friends or family. A wonderful place ! Like stepping into another world, really makes you feel like you are in another place . Beautiful ambiance and decor. They have large couches perfect for parties and some smaller ones as well for more intimate gatherings . I had a large birthday party here, I spoke with the owner to get the bigger table. He is very nice and accommodating. Since we came on a Saturday night the menu is prefixed. It comes to about 42 per person, but definitely worth it . They serve appetizers before like shrimp kebobs and these meat cigars that were sweet and both were amazing . You can choose a main course of lamb, fish, or chicken . Since we had a large party broken into 3 smaller tables we picked them all and it was delicious ! My whole crew left with to go bags.! You can even bring a cake which they serve after and they do sing happy birthday ! I didn't have a cake yet the server brought me one of their slices and actually still sang ! They also served sweet mint tea at the end of the night . The party lasts from 6 to 9 which is plenty of time ( they try to wrap things up because they have another batch of people coming 9 to 12 ) . We made a reservation as a group of 8 for Friday evening. It was nice to be seated immediately, but our group was split across two circular tables and we couldnt chat with each other at all. Id definitely recommend smaller groups for a place like this if you want to chat together. The decor was gorgeous - it was colorful and fun and definitely set the tone for the evening. The menu was simple - you were able to pick a few things but they made it very easy and everything came out family style (so be aware if you hve picky eaters or those with allergies). There are set times for belly-dancing, so make sure to plan to meal around the shows. We had a great time and appreciated the sweet dancer who made sure to visit every table and bring high energy the entire time. There wasn't really encouragement to get up and dance along, but she did let a few people hold the tamborine. The food itself was good - I think I've had better Moroccan food (but that was West Coast living - no where close to us here). The experience completely makes the dinner and helps really transport you to a different culture for a few hours. My only real gripe is that you have to pay for bottled water (no free tap water) - so of course we drank way more BYOB wine and way less water than we should have. They have a pre-fixed menu, "Sultan's Table" for $40 pp which is nice so you dont gotta waste any time or think. 1. Salad- whatever, I didn't like the corn either in it personally. 2. Dips platter- good. I liked the hummus and what I think was baba ganoush but not the dark brown colored one. 3. shrimp kabob- just 3-4 shrimp on a skewer, nothing special. 4. mediterranean cigars- so yummy. crunchy egg roll looking thing with beef in it. would have been even better with a sauce/dip to go with it. 5. mixed kabobs (chicken & beef)- pieces of chicken and beef mixed in with veggie safron rice. the meat was tender but what a small amount. the rice was flavorful and soft atleast. 6. chicken breast- so soft, fall off the bone! delicious flavor too, you could tell it was slow cooked. 7. mint tea- great way to digest and end the meal. 8. baklava- 10/10. best part but additional cost! tastes homemade, not like the store brought ones which are good but these are def better. Service was good except for the one guy who came and took our plate away without even asking if we were done (which we werent) so that was annoying... The vibe is nice with cute moroccan decor and good arabic music. They do a lot of birthday parties here it seems like. Be prepared to sit casually on a a low couch and eat off a circular table family style. Belly dancing is Saturdays around 8pm! Be prepared to pay 3% per person though. We spent $300 for 4 people which is quite expensive for the burbs of Parsippany, but atleast it was an experience I guess. I picked this place out for a place to meet up with two friends. I am so happy I did! Food - The pre-fixed menu was absolutely perfect. Everything was delicious! For the mail meal, we ordered the lamb. If you are not used to the taste of lamb, I would suggest the fish (I will try that next time) or chicken. The tea they give after is amazing as well. It is BYOB, so there is a Joe Canals nearby to get alcohol. If you ask for water, they give you bottled water. Service - The service was excellent. The woman that worked there was so kind and so were the waiters. It was lovely. Ambiance - It is great for couples and for groups. We saw both there. A friend surprised me on my birthday by taking me to Marakesh for dinner. The decor is amazing, lots of drapes, shiny golden metal tables, and the couches are super comfortable. We were quickly seated, and were given wine glasses. This spot is BYOB. The menu for dinner had two prix fixe options, both of which included the appetizer buffet. The appetizer table included hummus, salads, baba ganoush, olives, and other dips. They were all pretty good. For my entree, I got the lamb tagine. It was tasty and extremely tender. It was so soft, it practically fell off the bone. The surprise was the belly dancer. She was quite skilled and entertaining to watch. Beautifully decorated with darkened lighting & comfortable couches to sit on. We started with the falafel - crispy & excellently prepared. This was my first visit here with our group. Outstanding service paired with excellent food left me wanting more. For appetizers we had cigar rolls and shrimp. Both were delicious. We all shared the Tangine Lemon Chicken, a Lamb dish and another dish which I think was a mixture of kabobs served on a bed of rice. Marakesh was another great night out with our neighborhood friends. We descended upon this place with 20 friends and it was a great night of laughter, great food, drinking (BYOB) and more laughter. Another place I had never been before this night of merriment, Wifey and I were pleasantly surprised with the whole evening. If you've never been here before, it's seems like it's meant for small groups rather than a hot date night. We ordered the family style platters and had more food than we could eat. The appetizers/starters are served buffet style, but the platters are brought to you and people can get up and pull from any platter or you can pass them. We had a big area (again, 20 people) so we just got up and went to the food. We were there on a Friday night so we got a belly dancer show included and she did a great job of getting people up from all of the groups there to dance with her. Here is why this place should be avoided : 1) Food: I cannot stress enough, food was super bland, lacked any flavors. Even after our repeated requests, the staff didn't do anything to take care of it. Fish and shrimp skewers were really bad, and falafel didn't taste fresh at all. 2) Menu: We were 6 adults and 1 kid in our party, and they didn't let us go with ala carte option and basically forced us to go with a pre-fixed option. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we ended going with the "Sultan's Table" option $40 per person. Instead of bringing out individual portions of apps, entrees, and desert...the food came out family-style. Why charge patrons for individual portions when you're going to put food out family-style?? 3) Service: When we asked our server to bring out extra pita bread, he looked at me as if I'm asking him to comp my entire meal.....and it took a couple of attempts to get his attention to get our water glasses filled. Overall, the service really sucked The only reason, I'm giving 2 stars and not 1 star is because the belly dancing and tea were good, outside of that spending $65 bucks per person at this place was totally waste of money. My group had the salmon and the mix platter along with the meat cigars which are strange but good it's meat that season with like cinnamon nutmeg flavors in eggroll wrapper..it was good. Along with the salad bar and shrimp skewers. It's BYOB! Which is a big plus. The downfall for me was the fact that I had made reservations for 7 PM, Being told that belly dancing was going to be around 730 or eight. So I went in thinking I'll only be there till like 9 o'clock because I do like to be in and out once I'm done eating... so this was about an hour drive from my house as it was so I was really hoping again to leave by 9. But that information was wrong so the belly dancing did not start till nine and when she told me that I figured OK well I guess I'll just miss the belly dancing and maybe I'll catch another time-- But NO. They took forever to bring the food and it really seemed like they were pushing for us to stay till the belly dancing started because they charge a two dollar entertainment fee as well. I was very disappointed that I was here for almost 4 hours because again I had an hour ride home. I really didn't like this and for this reason I won't come back because they shouldn't operate like this. Ok- don't judge this place from the outside. It's unremarkable. It's in a strip mall in rt 46 eastbound lane. You will see the sign. Find it. Book a party! Go on a night with the pre-Fixe menu and the belly dancer. Wow! You enter into another world filled with music and spices and costumes and dancing and perfectly grilled and stewed meats. The pre-fixe includes salad bar and small bites and breads and then you order from a wide variety of entrees and they teas and desert. A mightily hearty and satisfying meal all the way around. I have been craving good Moroccan food ever since my trip to Morroco a few years ago so when I found out about this place I was excited to try. They have 1 preset menu called the sultan special which consist of a 5 course meal for approx $40 pp + $3 for entertainment which is a belly dancer. They also add gratuity (18%) in the bill already although we were only a part of 2. The ambience is nice and tradional.. overall good time. For thr food and service: service was just ok the guy wasn't as attentive but their was a female there the was very friendly and nice. Food was ok. Some of the items had decent flavor others were just ok. It unfortunately did not scratch my itch from Morocco but it's hard to get authentic outside of the country. My biggest disappointment was I was expected true tagine served in a tagine pot but instead kiss got a salmon was some type of read sauce served on a plate. Go for awesome experience ( Belly dance) which you cannot get anywhere in the tri-state area. food was okay, not great... We are living in this area since 2014 but never been here. Heard about it lot from friends and colleagues but still, it did not look promising to me from outside ( ok, ok, I should not judge a book by its cover). Finally got a chance to come to this place last Friday ( one of our buddies was going to India for good, so it was his farewell). First thing first, call beforehand and book your reservation, cause on Friday and Saturday there is belly dance performance and all table gets fully booked by the reservation basis only. Belly dance happens only on Fri-Sat so rest other days it should be fine. It was a cold night, got the parking easily. The moment you enter and you feel like you are not in the USA anymore. This is a typical Moroccan style restaurant. Ambiance, sitting arrangements, painting on the wall, architecture of this place, their table is one big rounded plate, so all of it makes it perfect. They have 2 options, either go for Ala-carte or chose their buffet which is $34/Person. We chose ala carte and ordered below items- Chicken Kabob (Garlic, Marakesh spice blend, olive oil) Baby Lamb Tagine (Saffron sauce, toasted almonds) Tunisian Chicken Moroccan Grilled Chicken (Moroccan white honey, stone ground mustard) Sharmoula Mediterranean Salmon (Cilantro, tomato, lemon juice, garlic) Well, I won't be focused on food, cause food wise I had very high expectations after reading the reviews on various platforms, but I found it just okay. Salmon was very blunt, rectangle pieces of salmon with tomato and garlic. Don't know what it was. Baby lamb was kind of okay but again, expectations were too much I guess. Tunisian Chicken was a very rubberish type. All the entrée comes with salad and bread. Portions are also okay, not huge, enough for one person. And did I mention, they have BYOB. So yeah get your poison with yourself and enjoy. I believe they know their USP was belly dance and not food. At 9 PM, dancers came and performed belly dance with various props. It was for good 25-30 minutes performance and it was a fabulous, beautiful experience. Music-dance- dim light ambiance, it was a great atmosphere. One dancer balanced the whole tray of candles and danced beautifully. Dancers will come to your table and will ask you for dance. Many patrons enjoyed the dance with beautiful dancers. Don't forget to tip them. After 10 PM, this place is like an open place for dance. Hahaha... you can leave your table and dance in the middle. It was like a crazy dance floor. 10-20 folks were dancing and when they played Bollywood song, I could not resist myself and danced out there with my beautiful wife. They also charge $2 per person for belly dance and it would be included in your bill. The place is very loudly, no you can't have a peaceful conversation here, forget that. Lol. So overall experience was terrific and if the food was good enough, it would have been 5 stars. But its 4/5 for me. Yes definitely recommended. Not every day you see belly dance in restaurants. We got the 7 course meal which we thought would be too much but it was just right. The shrimp kababs are just ok. The moroccan cigars were different than what I had expected. It's like an egg roll but with ground beef that is seasoned with cinnamon and sugar. Very different but very good. The main course was delicious! The mixed kabab entree is the best choice which let's you try all the kababs. The chicken kababs were the best of all of them. The dessert included baklava and not sure what the other thing was called but it was fried pastry with frosting and fresh fruits on it. The tea was pretty good also. I never had Morrocan food before so I don't have any other places to compare the food here to but we enjoyed everything we ordered. We had the Hummus appetizer and the Moroccan Cigars to start. The consistency of the hummus appetizer was perfect.. smooth, thick and creamy. The Moroccan Cigars was a nice surprise, it was savory but sweet at the same time. I've always wanted to eat out of a tagine so for our entree, we had the Baby Lamb Tagine. The lamb was very juicy, tender and fell right off the bone. We were hoping the Tagine came with the cover because it just looked like it was cooked on a normal hot plate when it came out *hint hint*. For beverages, we had the Moroccan Mint Tea on the side and it was delightful. I highly recommend getting this tea with your meal, since it paired very well with our food. I want to know how they make this tea, i would totally drink this on its own! It gets busy on the weekends and space is limited so make sure to make reservations. Also they don't have a liquor license so it's BYOB We were warmly greeted and sat down at a table in the middle of the restaurant. We decided to go with the 8 course option for 40PP and as our main course we got the lemon chicken tagine. Everything was good but I really enjoyed the Moroccan cigars. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have harira that day since is one of my favorite Moroccan dishes but maybe next time. They had a belly dancer which was really good and she did a few dances and even got some of the customers involved. I had a great experience at Marakesh, I wish I lived closer! When they started off by washing my hands in rose water I knew we were off to a good start. Our table went with the larger sampler and it was just way to much food in my opinion, but it was nice to give everything a try. The salad was okay just your standard salad. I could have just eaten the hummus, Baba ghanoush, and the eggplant dip tray and been happy. Everything on that tray was delicious. Next came the cigars and I wasn't a huge fan of the cinnamon sugar on them, we also got the veggie cigars and I much preferred those. The falafel was good! For our main dishes we got the lemon chicken, salmon tagine and lamb tagine. All three were delicious, the flavors were great, and the meat was tender. The belly dancer was okay. We just threw our company holiday party at Marakesh Restaurant. It was the best party we've had anything in years. Abdul and his staff did absolutely everything to make it an incredible night. The food, the service, and the entertainment. were all top-notch! We were a very international group and the music playlist was middle eastern but sprinkled with everything from Indian pop to Salsa. They had the most incredible belly dancers that got all of the guests dancing, even the shy ones. But the food was out of sight! The appetizers of the different cigars were distinctly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The lamb tagline was amazing and there was great food for the vegetarians too. Went to this place for a friend's birthday and it was great! Pros: Belly dancing entertainment was great!! It really felt like the whole restaurant was connected through the music and dancing. Food was pretty good and their portions were big. Cons: A little too pricey for me...Not sure if I'd go back for a regular night out. Since we had a party of 8, they said we had to get the combo 7 course meal. After tax and tip, and paying for my friend's portion for her birthday, it came out to about $65 a person...but I guess it's not too bad since it included the entertainment.
