If you want a good breakfast, this is the place to go! Uncle Ernie's Pancake House has been a family friendly destination for years. Obviously they serve pancakes (which they are known for) but you will also find other traditional breakfast choices, one of my personal favorites are the omelets! I recommend the Southern omelet with the country gravy! There is a good amount of food, a reasonable price and best of all, you won't leave here hungry. There is only ONE pleasant server/employee who checks all the boxes of a hospitable server. I have tried to give this place chance after chance, at one point it was the go to back in 2019. The service since then has been downhill as well as the food. There's micro aggressions I deal with often while here. Last visit here the environment felt like I was somewhere I just did not belong. I brought up an issue with my bill off the PRINCIPAL of what I was being charged, it had nothing to do with the money. The lady was rude at the cashier when I was bringing it up. I will never spend another dollar here. & for anyone walking in, read the room. If the folks do not look like you when you walk in, and they stare at you all the way as you walk to your table, just like they did me, then do not assume the server is going to have your best interest. read more

I originally gave this place a 3 star, it used to be very dingy and greasy inside with the grossest plastic cups with bite marks in them - but I recently went back after maybe 4-6 years and this place has really stepped up their game. It's much more cleaner inside. The menu has a decent variety and options. The food was pretty decent, much better than my first time - the pancakes were cooked all the way through this time and didn't have raw batter in them, and it was actually pretty tasty (I had the seasonal blueberry and lemoncurd pancakes and they were very good). We were visiting in the area last week - my husband lived in Portage/Kalamazoo for most of his life - and I Yelped to find best breakfast. He heard of Uncle Ernie's, so we went. It was about 11am, the morning rush was over. I loved my omelette and fresh fruit- all delicious! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pancake breakfast ! Today, Mother's Day - Ordered the perch meal with fries. The meal was very disappointing , the perch fish were the size of smelts and tasted like minced meat. If you're even in Kalamazoo you should try this breakfast place out. Quaint helpful and respectful service. Food was really good, restaurant was clean and spacious although it's in a shopping center and looks tiny from the outside. They have homemade corn beef hash and also from the can, they ask which you'd like, (we've never had the option before). We were on our way to the Air Zoo Museum and found the breakfast spot. If I'm ever in the area again I would definitely repeat. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 star is because the location and the coffee wasn't good. Looked like quite a few people are regulars there which is always nice to see. I ordered the corned beef hash and asked the difference between the half and full order. The server said it's only an extra dollar and twice as much food for the full so I got that. I love corned beef hash- and homemade is every better. The corned beef itself was great- has a smoky flavor and was very tender and juicy. But, there were a lot of hash browns, I mean a LOT! In my mind it needed either more corned beef, or about half the amount of hash browns to go with it. Also I found it strange that they offered canned corned beef hash as well. Why have both?? Use to be one of our favorite places. Had breakfast. My food was just ok my mom enjoyed her meal. The biggest problem was under staffed. Only one server on the floor. The girl at the front desk had glasses and a big mouth. I heard another guest tell her to turn the volume down. My mom wears hearing aids. We just finished a chemo treatment. We decided to go out for breakfast to celebrate only 2 more treatments and cancer free. It was not enjoyable with this girl bellowing the entire time. I kindly explained to her the effect her loud voice had on a person with hearing aids. It hurt. My mom is almost 89 years old and a kind woman. The girl said "That's just the way my voice is." I said unfortunately we won't be back. Think twice before you waste your time and money unless you enjoy listening to a big mouth girl who thinks she is a comedian. read more

Uncle Ernie's is a classic breakfast joint with a brief menu that has all the breakfast items and a few lunch items. Stick with the classics and you'll have a great meal. I chose the "Hunter's Omelet" which was well stuffed with sausage and ham and bacon and mushrooms and cheese. With sliced tomatoes on the side instead of home fries and hold the toast, my keto diet remained in good shape. Plenty of good coffee, too. I arrived just after a big to go order so my meal did take a bit to be prepared. That's not the fault of the young lady who was hustling tables and also preparing this big stack of styrofoam boxes by herself until another waitperson arrived to help. Patience is the way to go. Stopped in for a quick breakfast while visiting Kalamazoo. Read the reviews and figured we'd give it a chance. The parking lot was full. There was one spot left when we arrived. We were seated immediately and offered beverages by the hostess. Marcy arrived with our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. We wanted a bit more time to review the menu. I decided on the pancake platter. I mean, it's a pancake house! I also ordered a full order of hash browns as they were mentioned often in rev Daughter ordered biscuits and gravy and the hubs got corned beef has. He was offered homemade or canned. Canned was not listed as an option on the menu. He chose canned. Ash he said, "it's hard to screw up canned hash" Food took a bit, but our server Marcy took orders at 4 tables at one time. When the food arrived there was so much! The biscuits and gravy seemed to be frozen or canned, not homemade like the menu suggests. Gravy was good, but lacked seasoning. The hash was adequate. Hard to screw up canned hash. Over Medium eggs were closer to over hard, but still had some goo to the yolks. The meal included toast, rye was has choice. It was a single thick slice. We added a full order of hash browns. All the reviews mentioned how delicious they were. And they were right! Crispy and cooked through. Seasoned beautifully. 10 out of 10 would recommend! Now to the pancake platter. Eggs and bacon were served on a separate plate. Scrambled eggs were more solid, like an omelette, not large tender curds. The pancakes were the size of the plate. They were thin and overcooked. So over cooked I couldn't cut them. I asked for new pancakes. Since they were so large, I knew I wouldn't eat the two it was served with, so I requested only one. After a few minutes I was served a fresh pancake. It was barely cooked and there was no golden color that you expect with a pancake. A few bites in and I knew it wasn't cooked through. The flavor was ok, but a restaurant that claims to be a pancake house should have a light a fluffy pancake. Would we go back? Probably not. We love to eat breakfast out and with plans to relocate to the area, this spot will not be in our list of places to visit again. read more

Kids menu with blueberry Mickey Mouse pancakes was great. So was the banana nut Belgian waffle. I don't recommend the omelets. My Mediterranean sounded good on the menu but it was a bit skimpy and had an overwhelming bacon taste. I surprised me that a veggie omelet was dripping in bacon grease. NO! This place serves mediocre food at best. I made the mistake of ordering the homemade corn beef hash instead of the canned and it was awful. It's dry pieces of corn beef in their unseasoned hashbrowns. The waitress hyped it up and said it was made with their special seasoning and onions, and it sounded fantastic. That is not what you get at all. The can would've been much better. The only thing cooked ok was the egg and it was scrambled. For a pancake House, the pancakes are not good and the syrup has a weird taste. not a place I would go again. Somebody told me that this place was a Kalamazoo institution. We don't visit often because every time we do something goes wrong. One fall we ordered pumpkin pancakes and they were regular pancakes with canned pumpkin pie filling in between...instead of making real pumpkin flavored pancakes. Today we forgot a detail we had previously encountered. If you order a breakfast that includes vegetables they do NOT sautée them. When the waitress asked how everything was, we asked why? She first said they do, sautée, just not very long. I told her they were raw. She then said "yes it gives them dish that little added crunch". I told her we have never encountered ANY other restaurant that serves vegetables raw in breakfast dishes. So if you don't mind RAW vegetables in your breakfast it's safe to visit. read more

An awesome Ma & Pa breakfast joint. On a recent trip from Florida to Michigan to visit family and friends my family and I decided to take a trip to the Air-zoo museum. But since the museum didn't open until noon on Sunday we were trying to find a place to meet with friends and have breakfast before we went. Everybody we talked to recommended Ann's House. But it was an incredibly long wait and we only had a few hours before the Air-zoo. My wife found this place and I'm so glad she did; it's literally right down the road from the air zoo and I would definitely come back to this place again the breakfast was awesome. It's located in a small little shopping center about a 1/4 north of the I-96 and 1.5 miles from the airport. Upon walking in it looks kind of looks more like a senior citizens breakfast joint it wasn't the nicest more older and dated. It reminded me a lot of the several waffle houses from down south. It may not look nice but the food is always awesome! We waited for a few minutes for the servers to get our table ready and we're properly seated the coffee was good and my daughter had the pancakes. I did not have any and opted for a loaded omelette instead. The omelette was awesome. I guess this place is known for their corn beef hash so I decided to try the homemade hash versus what you can buy from the can in the store the homemade hash was very good I would get it again. We came here at about 10:30 in the morning on Sunday. In this place gets packed very quickly after church lets out. My only complaint about the place was it was incredibly hot inside perhaps the AC was broken when we were there. I'm surprised they didn't open a window to let the fresh air in but it wasn't very enjoyable eating a hot breakfast while I sweated in the eating area. **Overall, this trip was about family and the memories we made along the way to the Airzoo it was a lot of fun that day. Been hooked on the breakfast quesadilla (sub sausage) which is a favorite breakfast in the house when making at home now. My family came here with family friends. We had 8 people and got seated pretty quickly! Their menu is the perfect size, just enough to pick from! They have an amazing breakfast menu! I got the pancake platter, comes with 2 fluffy buttermilk pancakes, 2 eggs (your way) and your choice of meat (ham, bacon, sausage links or patties) I got links, and every single thing was delicious! My husband got the biscuits and gravy and a side of hash browns! I tasted them and they were so good, they tasted like mine! Homemade lol and that's a compliment. My oldest got the chocolate chip pancakes, they were gone so fast. He loved them. My middle got the pancake platter also, the look on his face when he saw the size of his pancakes was priceless my daughter got the junior French toast! Was visiting Kalamazoo for my son's birthday weekend. One of his requests was to go out for breakfast. I was excited to find the reviews for this place and that it was a close distance from our hotel. Unfortunately, my excitement waned immediatly. My husband and I ordered coffee and we might as well had been drinking hot water. When hubby asked the waitress if we could get fresh coffee, she explained that that's just the way the coffee was there. Although she said it with a smile, I was a little put off. We proceeded to order, between the four of us we had the waffle combo, pancake platter, and meat lovers hash. I had the waffle combo and the best thing about it was the bacon. The waffle was tasteless and even syrup couldn't help. I just so happened to ask for a fresh sliced banana and that at least allowed me to finish my food. My son complained about the same with the pancakes. My husband, who had the hash, thought it was good but it had a a load of processed cheese that he removed. Overall, the people seemed to be really nice, but the lackluster food would definitely prevent me from re-visiting. There are too many other options! read more
