My hubby had pancakes and I had a blueberry crepe. The filling in the crepe had a strange after taste. Lots of tables and booths. Our waitress was very attentive--she gets 5 stars but I felt like my crepe was cooked earlier and then reheated. Hubby said the tea bags were very cheap. I was visiting friends over the weekend and we came to eat here for breakfast/early lunch before we all went home. The food was really good! Eggs were perfect, bacon was great, hash was really good, and of course, the pancakes were great! But, what makes Berries even better is the service and management. The service and staff were really nice and helpful but the management/the family the owns it? I owe them a big one now! I accidentally got my keys locked in the car and, me, a first time visitor, they were awesome to assist me and connections me with one of their local partners on an unlocking service too! Went here as my last "get together" with one of my friends in MI. I had driven past Bettie's several times on my way to and from Powerhouse and Fanfare. Anyway, we decided to meet here for breakfast. I kid you not, the parking lot was CROWDED. We were under the impression that everything was going to take a minute or two. Welp, fast forward to walking inside, we were immediately seated. I love Berries! I go there with my family once every week. The food is very good quality and made in house. It's not exotic by any means, but it is consistently good. I always get the chicken kabob with their French fries (the best fries in town!!). The ambiance is very much a classic diner feel -- very "small town" which is nice here in Kalamazoo. The service is the best of anywhere in town. Very friendly and accommodating. We've had pretty much every server in there at least once and all of them have been excellent (except one that was just more shy). I also love that Berries is locally owned. The owner is often in there and will walk around and talk to people (he's a gem). I would for sure recommend if you're looking for a new breakfast place. read more

It was very just-okay, food was a bit lack luster. It was difficult getting into the parking lot, as they had a semi delivery at peak hours on Saturday, so parking was a bit of a nightmare. Staff was quick and courteous. They all did everything quickly and efficiently. They were busy so I didn't see them very often. The most disappointing thing by far was the food. I personally got the "ultimate biscuits and gravy" for $12.50ish, and you could instantly tell that they were just premade canned biscuits split in half and then reheated on a griddle with oil (you could really taste the oil), and the chicken was just a frozen gordon-food-center style chicken tender that they blasted in the oven.. and then threw cold kraft cheese on. The gravy tasted like 2% milk and flour and a little salt and a dash of pepper. It was very bland, but it wasn't like the cooks didn't care, it was still constructed perfectly fine, but the lacking freshness really shows hard in low quality food. The venue really gives off old greasy diner vibes but is still clean. The table top looks like old moldy cracked hardened milk, but everything in the sitting area was decently clean. Overall, I don't think I'd go back just because for the price, there are so many other better breakfast/food options in the area. (though not all that close to that area). I'd say if you're just hungry and don't care what you get or how much you pay, this place is still viable. read more

I read a few rave reviews for this eatery and we decided to try Berries for lunch today. My SO had been there for breakfast last month and agreed to go with. Our food was pretty run-of-the-mill, which is okay, I guess, if one has a really good mill. I do not know where Berries got theirs, but perhaps they should check their warranty. We were served the soup of the day which was Lemon Chicken. We both sampled the soup and promptly sent it away after a few spoons. It was like eating hot lemon yogurt and none to appealing. My SO tried a small side salad that was what it was. I tried the gyro sandwich which was unremarkably dull. Good news for potato lovers in that the fries were excellent!. Our server was friendly and helpful and did offer to replace the soup, but I did not want to gamble with soup again. I am berry sorry, but we will not be back. read more

I have been to this restaurant on a few occasions. The last being the absolute worst. I ordered the Greek Combination. The food was taken out of the freezer and microwaved. Bachamel sauce was on the other side of the plate, small portions, no flavor. Greek soup was so thick, needed a fork not a spoon..not hot. Response to my expression of disappointment, should have ordered breakfast. A previous visit with friends, brought wrong orders after waiting 20 min for service. Again, wouldn't make it right. My friends experienced the same thing on different occasions. Parking downtown is for the birds, thanks to the new traffic configuration on Michigan Ave. Servers very good at spilling water on the tables. I wrote to them, and all they could respond give us another chance. LOL. Did give them one final opportunity to redeem themselves, asked if they needed volunteers for T-day. I had helped at Theo & Stacys for over 25 years. They'd get back to me. Still haven't heard. Now they're going to do Christmas. Food quality not up to par, way over priced. We had seen that the parking lot is packed during peak hours so we went on a Tuesday after lunch. The interior has been updated since the tired Theo & Stacy's was there. The breakfast and lunch menu is very large; it would be doubtful that you couldn't find something to order. Since the only other restaurant we ever ran into locally which made Strawberry Crepes was the long gone Sophia's House of Pancakes on Stadium Drive, we both decided to order it. The cook did a decent job. Delicate crepes, delicious strawberries (out of season), fake whipped cream out of aerosol can. The place has a very Greek restaurant vibe to it. The coffee was forgettable. The manager brought us a huge carafe of water and glasses when we sat down. We saw a server who used to work at Niko's Express in Comstock (also closed), so it was nice to see a familiar face. The meal was $34.50 with tip. We went again several days later, at 7 am on a Sunday. We were the first seated for the day. I asked about the Irish Skillet, a dish containing corned beef hash, but the server said that the restaurant had decided to move from homemade to canned because the early reviews on the homemade was that it wasn't popular. So I stayed with an order of Strawberry Crepes again. My girl tried the All American Skillet, which contained potatoes, ham, green pepper, sausage, & cheese. It was served on a skillet. But she found it disappointing and tasteless. She described it as "a heap of ham, a heap of hash browns, lots of heaps, nothing that says it was cooked in a skillet together, unseasoned and bland." It was topped with three eggs, which she ordered sunnyside up. Two were sunnyside up, the third was cooked solid. The side order of two pancakes was tough and rubbery rather than tender. The undersides were near burnt. The coffee was again indifferent, so only getting one refill was a blessing in disguise. Again, with tip, about $33.50. My girl speculated that the reason the homemade corned beef hash was not a hit was because the restaurant makes its skillet dishes with hash browns. And corned beef hash with hash browns is a cardinal sin. Better made with cubed or sliced potatoes. Going out to eat has gotten expensive. It's a great location for a diner on Westnedge. There really isn't any competition. Our server was attentive and professional the first time, less so the second. I think we would go back to try the lunch menu, but we would stick with off hours. I was particularly struck by the sad state of the pancakes, a staple at any diner that the cooks should be able to churn out without thinking. My girl again speculated that leftover pancake batter from the day before was used because the kitchen hadn't yet mixed up today's batter. Plus the batter was burned on a too hot flat top. read more

Several friends and I decided on Berries for lunch and really enjoyed everything. I decided on the gyro platter with Avgolemeno soup which was amazing. I and Greek decent and I am pretty picky about my Greek foods. It was just the way I'm used to. The gyro was equally delicious. The food came out quickly and the service was friendly. I can't remember if the interior has been remodeled since Theo and Stacy's but it was very comfortable, clean and homey.
