I go out to breakfast frequently with my parents and I wanted to try something new, so I suggested we go to East Egg. We walked in the door and my parents were thrilled when they saw Alicia, who I learned was their favorite waitress from East Egg in Portage. We seated ourselves, and the interior was clean and I liked the decor. The food and service were absolutely amazing! Today was "free bacon Friday" so bacon was added to all of our orders for free. I had a bacon, egg and cheese omelette that came with hash browns and toast or pancake, and I added a side of grits. I had asked for grape jelly for my toast and Alicia brought the grape jelly, but she also brought me some strawberry jelly she wanted me to try because it was homemade. It was really good! Tami, the owner, came over and talked with us after we had finished eating. When she found out that I liked biscuits and gravy she told me that theirs was homemade, and she gave me some to take home so I could try it. I could not believe how friendly Alicia was, and then to talk with the owner who was extremely friendly as well...I'm just mad that we did not come here before today. As a young girl, I was always told that Breakfast should be the most important meal of the day, it's fuel for your day to get Started! East Egg by WMU campus did not disappoint, I have been watching SM postings of some their dishes and had to go in to see what it was all about. My kids got a Cheeseburger w/ French fries and their dinner plate size Chocolate Chip pancakes. I am a sucker for a good corned beef and tried the Northerner which includes 2 eggs, corned beef hash (must add green peppers/onions), hash browns and toast! Packed full of juicy flavors and perfectly well seasoned. I definitely will be headed back to try other menu items! read more

The food was stellar. The staff were great. Prices were good. Their jams are off the charts. Usually when we leave a breakfast shop you can taste the grease the food was cooked in,not here. Had heard good things about their corned beef, so I ordered the Northerner, which seemed like the closest I could get to corned beef hash. The hashbrowns took up more than half the takeout container (they were good). The eggs took up more than a quarter of the container (they were cooked perfectly). Once I had taken out those two things, I realized the corned beef hash consisted of 5 small pieces of meat and a sprinkling of small diced peppers and onions. I might have 4 bites in total. That just seems absurd to me. I'd also read good things about the cinnamon roll pancake, it was good. The biscuits and gravy were good, but I scraped off what gravy I could, to accompany the bites of biscuit, and ended up tossing about 3/4 of the biscuits because I'd already run out of gravy with about 4 bites. There weren't any tables available, not surprisingly at 10:30am on a Sunday, when I arrived. I was greeted quickly and then had a table within 5 minutes. I overheard many say "you have to get the cinnamon roll pancakes". So I ordered the Pancake Combo, with 2 pancakes, meat and eggs. Adding the cinnamon roll was $2 more and worth it! Sat at a table for nearly 20 mins before someone finally came to take our order, and after that we were not checked on once. Food took forever to come out, our server was more concerned about his doordash tablet than checking on his tables. Charged me $3 extra for fruit i never ordered, then gave me a look like i was lying when i went up to correct my $18 waffle order. Scrambled eggs seemed to be premade too and were not very good. Jacob and I stopped in for hangover cure/breakfast on a Sunday. It's a smallish place so we were lucky to avoid a wait. The server was really friendly and personable. We got our order in pretty quickly and it was up within fifteen minutes, even though the place was packed by then. The biscuits and gravy were excellent, and the generic egg/hashbrown/bacon/toast breakfast was served exactly as requested. The waitress kept up on Jacob's coffee, too. Prices were decent; I think our bill was around $13. I'll keep this diner in mind next time I'm in Kzoo! read more

The lacking stars have nor reflection on the service or food quality, top notch like I have come to expect from East Egg Nothing like a delicious omelet to start the day. Food was good, coffee was a touch weaker than usual, and service was fast. A groan of this visit is the lack of options when it comes to ordering food. On a low carb diet, so I ask for just the omelet, as did my partner, informing the waitress of such so we do not want or need the toast or hashbrowns. Just the omelets and coffee. Just a cheese omelet, a 3 item omelet, and two coffees. Just does not feel like $22.68 worth of food. We were charged full meal prices for less than half the meal delivered. Other establishments just charge us à le cart when we order a single item. I certainly did not enjoy an $8.75 solo omelet that did not fully fill half of my plate and will not be looking at East Egg as a diet friendly establishment even though they have everything already in place to be an Atkins or Keto friendly restaurant. read more

First time ever being here. And I have to say I wish I would have came in a long time ago. Because I love it already. It's currently not that busy so I got my food in very short time: 6.17min (yes I timed it) I had 2 over easy eggs, has browns, bacon, and wheat toast. It I was some of the best breakfast that I've had in a long time. The atmosphere of the place is pretty good. Has a mom pop kinda vibe. Decor appears homemade. Which I personally like. Being that this place is right outside campus. And on my way to campus it appears I will be spending more breakfast/brunches here. The stag is quick and polite by far. Being that it's a small place may be a helpful factor in this, but non the less they are efficient at their jobs. I recommend the place to anybody wanting a place near campus to get some breakfast. read more

Bad experience! Went here for Mother's Day breakfast. Food sat in window for at least 10 minutes. When we were served, it was cold. Manager came over, she literally stood there with her mouth hanging open. Didn't say anything when we told her we weren't happy with the cold meal. Our food wasn't eaten. We stopped at East Egg to refuel before making our way from Kalamazoo to the lake. It's your pretty standard breakfast place--perfect, I imagine, for the morning after a late night. The server was really friendly and efficient and the food came out super quickly, but not so fast that I thought the food had been sitting around too long. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. Also, it's a small thing, but I love that the tables have cream, hot sauce, all the various sugars, etc. already stocked so you don't have to ask. After a night of partying, what's better in the morning than some heavy breakfast food? Nothing. East Egg definitely delivered. We split an order of biscuits and gravy along with your typical meat, egg, and potato plate. Everything was served up nice and fresh, and it all tasted great. The B&G were especially good! East Egg is a great spot to grab a quick breakfast and coffee. The service is very friendly and fast - they'll always be ready to refill your cup of delicious Waterstreet joe. The menu contains all the regular breakfast essentials, but be warned - I was quite displeased with my biscuits and gravy. The omelettes are always well done, and every plate that comes with house potatoes will surely be loaded with them, and they're delicious. I only go to East Egg to get breakfast ever since I tried one of their club sandwiches. It was an absolute mess to try and eat, and when I actually managed to get a solid bite in my mouth it wasn't really satisfying. This was the first and last sandwich I purchased from East Egg. East Egg is one of my favorite breakfast spots, and it's located in a convenient location on WMU's campus. I've never had to wait for a table, and the service is cool and casual. Here you can get decent breakfast and great coffee at a normal price, but personally I'm still looking for that breakfast location that REALLY hits the spot. East Egg is great if your just running through and are hungry in the morning, and although they have a lunch menu as large as their breakfast menu, I say stick with the "Egg" at East Egg. read more
