I also ordered a chicken empanada and flan cake and could not believe how reasonably priced it was. The main item, chicken stew, was the least seasoned. Stews can be tricky as you need to over season or reduce the juices to build flavor. I love mom and pop establishments! Service will bring me back as I also want to try some of their other daily specials. Minimal seating (Two tables) This spot is located in a strip mall near the Truman Highway exit.

The wait was long so I was RAVENOUS by the time I got there. - Parking - Center lot. Nabbed a space up front! - Vibe - It's a lot smaller than I expected! Nothing wrong with that, just an observation. Half the shop is the kitchen. There is just enough room to make a small line and then you are at the order counter with the hot buffet bed. People were streaming in in a steady flow. Many seemed like regulars because they just got right to ordering. There are only 2 tables for seating, and honestly, not sure if they are even allowing dine-in right now. I didn't ask because I was taking mine to go. The tables seemed pushed against the booth seat and the other was pushed against the window. As for decor, pretty simple. Dominican Republic on one side, Puerto Rico on the other. Fun and colorful. - Service - The lady who helped me was nice and took pride in explaining all the different dishes to me. I saw all the delicious options and was struggling with the choices. I just wanted a pinch of everything! - Noms & Sips - I just ended up telling her the things I wanted and she included the following items in my to-go box: *white rice & rice and beans - both very good, great accompaniment to soak up the sauces of the Pollo Guisado *(1/2 order) plantains - one small turn off was that one of two pieces of plantain I got was pretty hard and super starchy. It was probably a green one and got thrown in the batch too early. No biggie though. The sweet one I had was great! I love sweet plantains! *(1/2 order) yucca - it seemed to have been cooked with red onions? I saw purple (why do we call it red when it's clearly purple?!) pieces with it. I love yucca and these were great, because they almost seemed stewed, because they very soft and great with the rest of the components of the meal. *Pollo guisado - I'm pretty sure that is the name of the dish. It was stewed chicken (only drums and thighs) in a red sauce. Super flavorful, chicken was tender and use-your-hands-suck-the-bone-off good and the lady hooked me up and poured some more sauce over the rice. Empanadas- I also wanted to try these because I like to try a little bit of everything. They are fried to order. I got one chicken and one beef. They are quite large! They were both good, but I think I preferred the shredded chicken over the ground beef. Passion Fruit Juice - It was good, sweet enough for me, but probably really sweet for you? My visit to ARL was bittersweet, because I think it was the first, but also most likely the last time before our big move. I'm sad , but also happy that I got to try it and check it off my list before I go! Pro tip: tune in to their social media handles to find out what they have cookin' for the week! This is a truly mom-and-pop place offering home cooking. They only have a handful of items on the hot bed and make one specialty per day or week. They make certain items made to order. Stay safe, Friends!

I got the bowl with everything, off yellow rice and black beans ( NO RICE AND GONDULES, not made here) roasted pork, salad and avocado and corn ( which I didn't want but was added, even though it was told...‍). Good thing I don't have an allergy to corn. Very nice girl at the counter but i guess was distracted. Although it's a nice size bowl which I couldn't finish in one sitting, I was disappointed with the pork. Yes it should be tender like pulled pork but not mushy. Not only that it could have used more flavor, in our culture we love to use numerous spices. Our food is definitely not bland. All I can think is that maybe at one time in the beginning the food was on point and over time it's lacking. The dining area is a nice size for eating indoors and they share the space with a Bolivian establishment which serves meat Pattie's and fresh juice drinks. The food is mediocre and not an option for me. I will continue my hunt for some Spanish food that will please my palette.
