The service was fast and the food was great! Lots of great selections! My 3 year old even loved all the sushi.

We came at a time between lunch and dinner so it wasn't too busy when we got there. We greeted and seated right away. Our server came and took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. Of course we all did AYCE. Coming from a place that had infinite AYCE, this place had really good sushi. Started off with our usual nigiri order of hamachi, tuna, salmon and smoked salmon. Smoked salmon hands down the best one I had. Our rolls came out on a boat which was really nice. The tatakis were also very good and flavorful. Our server was very attentive, making sure to see if we wanted more when we were almost done with our current orders. One thing the kitchen lagged on was the miso soup we ordered that took us asking for it three times before getting it when our dessert came out. But overall great place read more

ROACHES on the table!! I went there the other day with baby and it was honestly good vibes, and they are not expensive. At the end I paid for my meal, and as I was gathering my things to go.... A friendly ROACH crawled across the table to say goodbye to my daughter and I. I called over the server, she laid eyes on the same roach then proceeded to go and tell her coworkers about the roach. The issue came when I asked for my money back. The manager said, "but you ate so much food". Well of course I did, I wasn't aware that there was a roach crawling around on the table... At that point, I was upset and told her that it didn't matter how much food I had. I shouldn't see a roach crawling on the table.. The manager then proceeded to call me a rude bitch and threw the refund receipt at me. As if it was my fault that the roach was crawling on the table.... The server that night was amazing, but the manager is very rude and has no customer service skills! And they got roaches. This establishment needs to call pest control! read more

Great prices and value. The sushi is pretty good. The service needs a little work but they're usually busy so it's understandable. read more

I read reviews before I went to UMIYA so I was not expecting it to be disappointing. The sushi is not impressive, the fish in them is either watery or gummy, the rolls wrapped in soy paper just fall apart. The appetizers, edamame and calamari, were good. Deserts were fair/average, except when you get ice cream they literally give it to you in the plastic cup from the store, no time for a bowl. I'm sad that it wasn't better and that I cannot recommend. My guests from out of town deserved better and I've had much better sushi in other places in town. read more

Great to see an all you can eat sushi place in Memphis. Follows the classic structure--don't order six rolls if you will only eat two, as you'll pay extra for the other four. However, service is fast so you do not have to order a ton in advance for worry your order will take forever. This is not your classic sushi, but if something different appeals to you it is worth a try. I enjoyed and my sister who isn't a huge sushi fan also enjoyed. Be sure to come hungry and it will be worth your while. read more

Food was delicious, service excellent and atmosphere peaceful. Interior design is pleasant. I was excited about the menu, even though I didn't do the all you can eat menu. I wasn't that hungry. I ordered off the lunch menu and it was more than I could eat. read more

I came in with my family on a Saturday afternoon, and even though it was pretty busy, the food came out quickly. It's an all-you-can-eat setup where you order from the menu, and small plates are brought to your table. Just a heads-up: don't order more than you can eat, as there's a charge for over-ordering. We ordered a couple of rolls and tried most of the appetizers--everything was delicious, and we left absolutely stuffed. I didn't get to take as many pictures as I wanted because, as I mentioned, the food comes out really fast. Great experience overall! read more

Tonight was my second time to eat at Umiya on Germantown. This was delicious, just like last time. Our server, Michelle B, and owner Vicky, are wonderful and welcoming. The exterior, entrance, and inside of the restaurant are decorated consistently and in a fun way. There are plenty of booths for people who like that. I like chairs, and everyone raves over how comfortable the chairs are. All the food was super tasty. My friend got the chicken hibachi, and it was cooked just right. We had the Cowboy Roll, Tuna Tataki, and tuna and salmon Sashimi. We also had the tempura cheesecake. I'm fasting tomorrow for sure. Don't eat before coming to Umiya. The food is wonderful, and you'll eat way too much read more

Hey fellow foodies! So those place recently opened where the old Roadhouse used to be. They did a great job on the remodel. The place definitely has a Japanese feel to it. We started off with fried gyoza, calamari, and tuna tataki for appetizers. Everything came out quickly and hot. The tuna was fresh, spicy and presentation was very nice. read more

Umiya - Salad. Teriyaki steak and teriyaki shrimp and a few sushi rolls. The food was fresh and flavorful. - Sushi Bars Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

I came here yesterday with three friends, and we all ordered a variety of different foods. We ordered the chicken ramen, beef ramen, Beautiful Roll, California Roll, cucumber roll, shrimp tempura roll, steak hibachi, chicken hibachi, vegetable hibachi, and fried rice. The service itself was good. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. However, the problem was the food. I'm a huge fan of Japanese hibachi and cuisine, and compared to all the other Japanese restaurants I've been to, this place was a letdown. The chicken hibachi was a bit chewy and not to our liking. The steak hibachi didn't have much flavor. In the vegetable hibachi, some of the vegetables were cooked, while others, like the onions and carrots, were still raw. The fried rice also did not taste fresh. Some of the sushi didn't seem fresh either. The cucumber roll was brown in color and did not look or taste fresh. The California roll also did not taste fresh, and when we picked it up with chopsticks, the rice kept falling apart and coming off the roll. The ramen was also not good. It kind of tasted like canned chicken soup, and the egg in the ramen had a very weird texture and did not taste fresh at all. Overall, the service was good, but the food was not up to the standard we expected. Unfortunately, we don't plan on coming back. read more

Awesome food- haven't had one item yet that is not that we didn't like. Do no, do not forget the fried Oreos and fried cheese cakes. The chicken tempura is the best tenders I've had ever tried. The spicy edamame is garlicky, spicy and buttery yumminess. read more

I have been here before, and it was good. Tonight I took a bite of my sushi, and there was a giant hair in it. It made me sick to my stomach, and I could not eat anymore. It was my second dish. Let me start by saying that this would've been a one star review had it not been for Vicky's efforts in making things right for us. We were really happy to see another Asian restaurant open in Memphis and were very excited to try it. We arrived around 6:40 PM for dinner and the hostess told us there would be a 20-30 minute wait. We put our name down and waited. After 30 mins or so, our table still wasn't ready, so I checked with the hostess. She told me to give her 10 more minutes. Another 30 mins go by and still nothing so I walked up to the front desk again to check the status. That's when I saw our name had been crossed off the waitlist. I asked the hostess why our names were crossed off when we hadn't been called, and she instantly got defensive, saying it wasn't her who crossed it out. I replied that it didn't matter who crossed it out. The fact is, we'd been waiting for over an hour at this point. She then had the audacity to say, "You don't have to wait, you can leave if you want to." Just WOW. She then proceeded to tell me to "calm down" when I got frustrated with her attitude. Finally, the restaurant manager, Vicky, came over. She was immediately apologetic and made sure we were seated right away. Despite being swamped, she personally attended to us and checked up on us throughout dinner, which really helped turn things around. Like I said, if it weren't for Vicky turning this into a positive experience, we would never go back and would just stick to Sushi Kingdom. That hostess, however, should not be working in the service industry if she's going to treat customers with such a nasty attitude and disrespect. Mistakes happen, I would have been understanding if she had simply apologized and tried to fix the situation. But she chose to deflect blame, get defensive, and escalate the situation with her dismissive and condescending remarks. Telling a customer to "leave if you want to" is completely unacceptable, especially after we'd waited patiently for over an hour. Anyway, the food was actually very good, maybe slightly better than Sushi Kingdom for certain dishes. My favorites were the salmon sashimi, hibachi steak, and snow crab salad. The matcha ice cream dessert was also very tasty. We'll likely give this place another try in the future and hopefully a smoother experience next time. read more
