Shrimp tempura, lamb skewers, chicken wings, garlic edamame, side salad, and soup

It was a good 1st experience, the food and service were top notch! Would recommend this to anyone. The atmosphere is chill and good for lunch and possibly for dinner. Cost was relative and easy to have conversations.

NEW owners & name, I went today and had the sushi & lamb chops. The owner Kyle was soo nice and the food taste fresh and good. I love that this small cute restaurant is near my house, it has an intimate chill setting, fun art ceiling, and cute back drop on patio for group photo ops. Nice setting for a cutesy date night. Everyone that works there was kind and hospitable. I'll be back soon!

not sure what i would rate this as a sushi spot, but as a skewer spot 5 stars. the dry rub (cumin based) is perfect and everything is grilled to perfection. we got the lamb, chicken cartilage, pork intestines, and boneless short ribs. the latter was spectacular. the grill whole squid was perfect. i've never had it look so beautiful either. the sashimi platter was better quality than i was expecting actually. was not a fan of the enoki mushrooms and clams, but my brother seemed to like it. staff was nice, though they did leave out one thing we ordered. it was soon delivered to us after we asked though.

Had dinner here tonight to celebrate a close friend's birthday The food was absolutely delicious -- super fresh, beautifully presented, and everything tasted amazing. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, perfect for a relaxed evening with friends and good conversation. If you're looking for a great spot for sushi and Japanese food, this place is definitely worth checking out. We really enjoyed our time here and just wanted to share it with friends

I was looking for something different to eat, stopped into Kaiden Don. Back in the day this…read morelocation was Shogun where I would eat there often. When they closed I missed them. The authentic Japanese style food prepared in the Japanese tradition. The flavors of the orient were unparalleled. I was not sure if I was going to find any other restaurant that would compare. Then today, I can proudly say Kaisen don did it. I ordered unagi don, fried salmon head, my husband order chicken teriyaki with miso soup. It was served hot and well prepared. The presentation was excellent and visually inviting. The server was polite and attentive in the traditional Japanese style making us feel very welcomed. The soft Japanese rendition of American jazz playing softly in the background was perfect to set an ambiance of perfection in our dining experience. I most assuredly will dine there again and recommend it to anyone who enjoys great Japanese food and at affordable prices. If you are entertaining guests or are on a date night, choose kaisen don.

First of all- the miso soup had NOODLES ? I've never experienced that before. It was filled with thin wheat noodles, mushrooms and carrots. I didn't care for it. The spicy tuna roll was just okay, just a very small portion. The salted mackerel dish was pretty good, but the rice was super bland, not the traditional sushi rice I love. This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I wouldn't visit again, nor would I order it for delivery.

Made a trip to NorCal and was looking for somewhere open late, and I'm so glad I found this place!…read moreI love Japanese food, and I feel like most restaurants specialize in one particular thing, but this place has a little bit of everything for whatever you're craving: sushi, sashimi bowls like salmon don and chirashi, ramen, yakitori, and more! I ordered the salmon don and some lamb skewers. There is a 3-skewer minimum, which was totally fine because it's hard to stop at just one anyway. The salmon don was fresh and delicious, and the lamb skewers were super flavorful. Prices were pretty reasonable too, especially considering the variety. The atmosphere is casual and laid-back with cute Japanese-inspired decor throughout. Service was friendly as well! Definitely a great late-night find, and I'd come back to try more of the menu next time I'm in the area!

We got there around 7pm on a Friday. It was busy but we got sat pretty quickly. We ordered 2 miso soups, tofu, fatty combo sashimi, and 2 rolls. After about 30-45 min, we received our tea, miso soups, and the tofu appetizer. After about an hour, we got our sashimi. And after sitting for another 30 min, we decided it was time to cancel the rest and get our check. All the other tables were getting their food and we were just sitting there waiting. Waiting that long for food is unacceptable. And after all that, all we got was a sorry and "here's a 10% discount card for next time." I don't think there will be a next time.

The tonkatsu was just ok. Good enough, but nothing spectacular. However, the salmon sashimi was cut super thick and was a fantastic value. Ultimately, I'm giving them a solid 5 stars overall because the stellar service, great prices, and welcoming vibe totally won me over!

We enjoyed our experience there because we did not feel rushed and the food came out in a timely order. I dislike when the appetizers come after the food, so it was nice to feel settled in and gauge how hungry we were before the entrees came out. On this particular occasion, we got a variety of dishes including some bento boxes, sushi rolls, some sashimi for me, and fried appetizers. I'm not usually a big fan of raw salmon based on a couple of negative experiences I've had at other restaurants, but I remember changing my mind after eating it at Makiyaki. My niece saw I was enjoying my food and even asked to try some of what I was having! It was a memorable moment for her as she had never eaten raw fish. She felt particularly proud of herself as a reformed picky eater. Things I like about this place is that parking is right in front. If you're not able to find it right away, there's plenty around the block or across the street at Safeway. The place is small and cozy but was able to accommodate our medium-sized group after the weekend dinner rush. Our server checked on us an adequate amount of times. We didn't feel ignored, but also not suffocated /rushed, and our food came out on time. They have some alcoholic beverages, soda, and hot tea. I would come back for an intimate dinner with friends and top it off with ice cream from either of the shops in the parking lot.
