They were open on New years day, yay! I had called a few boba shops to see who was open and Ume tea came through. We were on our way back from Sac and wanted to end the 1st day off right with boba. The shop is located in a shopping area near Safeway, and it's right next to TOGO's and Sports clips. We snagged a spot right outside the shop. It wasn't busy at the time and we were able to browse the menu and order without waiting. Ume tea has a nice selection of fresh tea, milk tea, smoothies and a few seasonal items. They also have milk tea with drinkable mochi if you want that chewy bouncy texture whilst you're sip sippin'. You order at the kiosk and select your drink, toppings, sugar and ice level. The drinks come in a sturdy disposable cup with their rabbit mascot on the right and logo on the back. It can definitely reuse, which is what I did. I ordered the passion fruit green tea with a splash of lime with lychee jelly and boba. Ordered with 50% sweetness and less ice. It was refreshing and had good passion fruit lime flavaflav. My friend ordered the creme brulee milk tea with pudding and boba and he quite liked it. He's pretty picky when it comes to drinks. My friend wanted to go off the grid and ordered the hot 24 carat corn milk with jelly. The corn milk looked interesting with chunks of blended corn. I didn't taste it but my friend said it was unique. They didn't strain the corn pieces so she took it home and did it herself. She said the flavor was pretty minimal but a hint of jasmine green tea. She added some salt and condensed milk to make the flavorful more lively. lol So I guess, don't order the corn milk unless you want to experiment. The shop was small with a few tables to post up at. They have a long bench where you can sit and hang out with their plushies. And they have a few board games you can set up and play. If you want so kawaii reusable cups, they some double wall tumblers with their rabbit and you can get a rabbit cup holder. Overall, good drink menu, reasonably priced and quick service. I'm a sucker for plushies and boba, so when I saw this place I had to come out of my way to give it a try! I originally saw this place on IG for the Bay Area locations, so was super excited to see one closer to home (EG). I was also happy to see that the prices for the cute plushie surprise drink weren't outrageous (like an additional $3; both my drinks were under $10). Tried the boba & mochi milk tea and the passion fruit green tea with boba & jelly. I'm not really a fan of mochi custard as a topping (despite loving mochi), but reviews raved about it so I had to give it a try. I was glad that there was an option with both boba and mochi toppings. The passion fruit was ok. My mom ordered it at 50% sweetness, which she thought was still too sweet but I would've preferred regular, 100% sweetness (I thought it was a bit tart) so that's just our personal preferences. I like that there are no passion fruit seeds in the drink. Neither drink stood out/was memorable, but I would still come back just for the plushie xP. But, on that note, I was disappointed in the plushies we got. I had seen what others got and was hoping for a cute little sanrio one or even a bunny. Instead I got some monster looking thing? I've seen worse, but to me, this is not much better. Luckily my 2 year old likes it and they appear to be good quality, though. Also wanted to note that I had read in other reviews that you could only get certain drinks with the surprise cup, but they said I could get any drink with it (not sure if this is a recent change - I came in mid-July 2023). Service was good. It looked like they had a self-serve kiosk, but a worker took our order - which I like because I usually have questions the first time I visit. They made our drinks in less than 5 minutes, so we were in and out of there in like 10 min! Cute interior with lots of plushies. I first tried Ume Tea when I took the Sacramento River Boba Train last summer and they were one of the vendors on board. I loved their mochi topping and I was excited to try more of it. Fast forward many months later, I finally made my way into the actual storefront in Davis. It's located in a very busy shopping center but luckily we got parking right in front. Even though school is out and it was the middle of a Monday, it was actually still pretty busy inside. They had just opened up for the day at 12pm but there was a steady stream of customers as well as pickup orders. Good to see that business is strong! Despite us having a large order of 5 drinks and popcorn chicken, everything was actually ready pretty quickly in about 10 mins. We would've been out faster but we had to wait a couple extra mins for the popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was very yummy and I liked that it didn't have too much batter. It was a perfect snack for our drive home. Oreo Brulee Boba Milk Tea: perfect sweetness and love the fresh boba. White Peach Oolong Tea with Cheese Foam: I loved the flavor of the tea itself! I thought I had ordered a blended one but this looked like just an iced tea. I like the cheese foam but it doesn't sit well so you really need to drink it quickly. Strawberry Matcha with Green Tea Ice Cream: this was so delicious! I'm a big strawberry matcha fan and this was so creamy. It could've used even more strawberry since the matcha ice cream adds extra green tea flavor. Taro & Mochi Black Tea Latte: the fresh mochi is my favorite topping! Also just a warning this is fresh taro so if you're not a fan of that texture then you should not get this drink. The drink itself was a bit watery, the sweetness level is fixed on this one but I didn't taste much sweetness at all. I'd probably skip this and just get the mochi on a different drink. Thai Tea Brulee: delicious and pretty standard drink, the brulee makes it pretty but doesn't add much for flavor. Overall good experience here at Ume! There are a lot of boba shops in this small town so it can be difficult to stand out. They definitely have some quality drinks here and I'd recommend it to anyone coming to this area! read more

Ume is one of the newer boba places in Davis, and I think it's pretty solid. It's a cute little shop with plushies lined up on a bench and drawings of bunnies on the wall. Here are my thoughts on the drinks I have tried: Strawberry Matcha Milk Tea (5/5) -- This is a good strawberry matcha drink. I like that they add matcha ice cream so it is a little sweeter, and it has more matcha flavor compared to other strawberry matcha drinks I've tried. Taro Milk w/ Coconut Pudding (5/5) -- I think what threw me off for this drink was that the taro has a subtle flavor, so it's a little more on the milky side. Nonetheless, it's still a good drink, and I've grown to like it. Taro & Mochi Black Tea Latte (1/5) -- I got this drink on grand opening day. We waited in line for over two hours, so I was left disappointed when the drink was flavorless and watery. The one saving grace that made me come back...the mochi topping. Thai Tea w/ Crème Brûlée (5/5) -- For a sweet tooth like me, I really like this drink. It's very rich and creamy. Unfortunately for those who get anything less than 100% sweetness, this is one of those drinks that you can't modify. I think what's unique about Ume is that it has the mochi topping which I've never had before. However, be wary as my friends and I would grab our drinks and go home to find that there was no mochi in our drinks on MULTIPLE occasions. It came to the point where we had to watch the workers make it or drink it at the store to make sure there was mochi in it. Just a word of caution. Why wouldn't it be 5-stars it was a free Yelp sponsored event after all... but I came here today for the first time and didn't enjoy the drink. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered a Mango Pomelo Sago and the Strawberry Green Tea Slush w/ Cheese Top (mine). They were both under the Slush menu but it didn't have the texture of slush, it was more like crushed ice. The drink tasted watery with little taste of fruit or strawberry or even green tea. My hubby wasn't flattered with his drink either. Neither one of us enjoyed it. Disappointing. The shop was filled to its brim with young adults just hanging out. Both the inside and outside seating were full. The decorations were cutesy with stuffed animals that are attractive for the young. "Young" I meant college kids. We almost felt out of place. It was hard to hear the person taking our orders because of the noise level. I had to go to the pick up side to check and see if they had called our number. They should invest on some type of digital order number display so customers know when our number is called. Although all you think about is what boba drink to order but if you leave without getting that popcorn chicken you have messed up! Fast forward to our experiences here we did exactly that but our excuse was we were meeting besties for lunch elsewhere. So yes we returned within a few days later & ordered that popcorn chicken. Omgosh did I die & go to heaven? Yes I think I did. That. Popcorn. Chicken. Was. That. GOOD! So the next time both wifey & I ordered each our own popcorn chicken & she also ordered the fried shrimp that comes with French fries. She did enjoy them! We did have the ground pork bento but we thought it was way too salty for our own tastes. So we will NOT order that again. Wifey's favorite drink here is the passion fruit green tea watermelon drink, O sugar, less ice. She has had that same drink without the watermelon & with a few different toppings. She prefers it without them. She has tried the grape tea drink with jelly & it was just okay for her. She said too much jelly! I just recently tried the mango pomelo sago which was tasty even at 0 sugar. Wifey is pretty pleased with the fruit tea drinks here at 0 sugar as they still are very flavorful. Satisfying... We will definitely return in the future. Wish they had a Ume Tea in Sacramento or even in Elk Grove! They are in the Bay Area like at least four to five different locations! Excellent addition to the myriad of milk tea places in town! In order to stand out now, boba shoppes have to either have high quality or unique items. Ume has both! The drinks and snacks at Ume are really great. The teas are full of complex flavors with a huge amount of fun selections that you can make. Some of my favorites are the tiramisu and coconut taro drinks. If you're not in the mood for milk tea, you can get fruit teas and slushies. The standout snack item for me at Ume is the popcorn chicken. It comes out piping hot and the texture is just right! Splash some peppers on it and they'll be good to go! There are a few selections that you won't find at Ume. For example, there surprisingly isn't a regular taro milk tea or mango milk tea. These flavors are pretty much staples of most boba places. The menu is full of great things to order, but just be mindful that a few things may not be there. read more

I stopped by today and ordered the Bunny Surprise Milk Tea and I got the Mochi Red Bean Milk Tea flavor, + and order of popcorn chicken! There were two others that ordered ahead of me at the register but I decided to order at the kiosk since I couldn't decide what to get when I arrived. As soon as I walked in I was instantly greeted. The staff was very nice and got each order out in a timely manner. I did not have to wait long after ordering which was nice! The popcorn chicken was hot and delicious. I didn't get a sauce with it, but not sure if there was an option to add that OR if I had to ask for one, but no biggie. I still enjoyed it without the sauce. As for my drink, I forgot to add boba so that was bad on my part lol. I got the 120% sweetness, but it didn't taste as sweet as I thought it would be. I wish this location was closer to me. I live in Elk Grove and have to drive all the way out to Davis for the BSMTs. Hopefully they decide to open another location! I'll definitely come back to Ume! read more

I love ume tea! It's fairly new and I've been there a few times already. They have really unique drinks as well as good tarp chunks! I personally love the cookies and cream because they have a unique was of layering the drink with a sweet foam, boba and then the milk tea. The inside is really cute and they have plushies, but with the amount of traffic they get the inside pink bench is already all dirty and unwelcoming :( The space inside is a little small with just 3/4 seating areas but they have outside seating as well. Drinks are good, and for service the attendant was nice and pleasant, but the ambiance is dingy. The bench where all the plushies should be repainted, and the plushies should be thrown in the washer. There is visible dirt on the plushies. It made the place feel unclean. It is dim inside. The vibe was sorta ick! When this place was Gongcha it was bright and clean inside. People tend to gather where you pickup food so it can be a little confusing who's waiting for food vs who's waiting to order. Really tasty passion fruit watermelon tea. I added lychee to my drink for a bit of texture. They add a bit of watermelon pieces to it as well. Ordered fried shrimp and was pleasantly surprised by how it was fried and that it was shrimp paste formed for bigger sticks rather than a single shrimp flayed out. The fries sitting under the shrimp were bland and limp. I think they may have been soaked in oil too long. Just not enough crunch and forgetful. Not sure I'd try the fries by themselves based off that. I enjoyed the station after you pickup your drink and food to season your items and choose different straws or utensils. I had Ume Tea back in the bay so I kinda had a good baseline to compare this place. I got the mango pomelo sago and being honest, I wasn't really into the mango slush part. I would honestly prefer it to not be a slush. The taste wasn't bad though. I think if anyone gets this drink, it'd be best to let the drink melt a bit and have the pomelo shine in this drink. Pricewise, it was kinda pricey. I do love the interior though! It looks really good! There's also a kiosk there so ordering can be fast depending on the person in front of you.
