My first trip to Umai Ramen was on a cold and windy Sunday December evening. Umai Ramen is open until 9 o'clock PM on a Sunday, which is good to know. There are several other restaurants in the large, mostly Asian strip mall, but some close as early as 8 o'clock on Sunday. We artived pretty late and about 45 minutes before closing, but the staff was really friendly and accommodating. There was only one other couple eating while we were there. We ordered the shrimp tempura udon and the black garlic Ramen. Both dishes were very good and had a lot of flavor. I really liked the black garlic Ramen. The interior of the restaurant is really nice. It definitely adds to experience. I will be back to try some other items on the menu. I really enjoy Ramen on a cold night. Tried this place twice now. First time was a couple of years ago and the food ranged from mediocre to bad. Second time was recently, and honestly by accident (ordered to pick up, thought it was a different place, then after ordering, realized it was this place again). And this second time, it was worse. Most of the food was completely bland. Only the soup was inedible, as they poured it into the plastic container when it was way too hot, I got home and found the container melted most of the way through, and tasted like salty plastic. And again, everything else was bland and tasteless. Had to HEAVILY doctor the food at home to make it edible. read more

I've been here multiple times and I've loved it every time. I'm vegetarian so it's hard to get a good vegetable broth ramen but here the vegan ramen is so good. They have sauces you can add to the ramen as well which is really nice! The atmosphere here is really calming and nice. The people here are super nice and patient as well!! read more

Regarding the food: The takoyaki had a decent flavor, but it was cooked with a noticeable amount of oil, which was visible when served. The shrimp tempura udon's shrimp appeared to be heated in a microwave instead of fried, resulting in a lack of crispiness. The udon itself had a standard taste. Finally, the spicy miso ramen contained an excessive amount of chili oil yet lacked spiciness, and the corn topping was undercooked and somewhat bland. read more

1st time to this store under this name. Got the bacon shrimp skewer- solid. Kept it basic and safe with the R1. - very good. Nothing too over the top or flashy about it, just good, tasty, jones-quenching ramen; I appreciate that (and for a decent price by today's standards). Thought I'd get a cold refreshing cold beverage so went the GJT since I love grapefruit and jasmine tea. I'm not one for sweet drinks normally but I thought I'd venture out of my comfort zone... and this was . Lots of GF pulp and not crazy, candy, sugary sweet that makes ya cringe or pucker. Just enough to satisfy the sweet tooth or craving! I sat outside cause the day demanded it. But the inside looked aesthetically thoughtful enough and had the cozy chill ramen restaurant vibe Equally important, I'm thankful for the good, friendly and attentive service this afternoon. Pleasant way to unplug and enjoy a meal from an otherwise long, busy, task-filled day (in my case). Ill make it a plan to return and if I like a place, I'll be spreading the Good word. read more

Stopped in to Umai Ramen (formerly Kokoro Ramen) on Brace Road by Hung Vuong Asian Market. Ordered: 2 tonkotsu ramen - Th etonkotsu broth was very good, unctuous and flavorful, the chashu and the egg were perfect. Nice portion. 1 ribeye ramen - the shoyu broth was flavorful and perfect for the sliced, tender ribeye. Another winner. 1 mazeman - what we call mazesoba in Japan, very good version, the toppings were spot on and I liked the addition of the beni shoga (red pickled ginger). 1 small curry rice add-on to ramen - this was available for every ramen order and cnsisted of rice with a good Japanese curry sauce and 3 big pieces of karaage (fried chicken). deep fried quail egg - very good - I could eat a dozen of these deep-fried, boiled quail eggs, Delicious! chicken karaage - nice tender chicken and a good dipping sauce as well. and a calpico (calpis)to go it was all very delicious. Newly opened up we think as we see the opening banner out front. Came in for lunch. Service was good, food made to order so expect some wait time. There was only 1 table already eating. A few more customers came in while we ate. Parking lot available. Food was decent - wasn't wowed. The beef udon could use more beef. Shrimp from the seafood udon wasn't fresh - was mushy. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. There weren't many customers at 7pm on a Friday night. We ordered the roast pork buns, bacon wrapped shrimp skewer, chicken skewer, miso ramen and spicy miso ramen. The roast pork buns were unique as they weren't made with the steamed bao bun but with a baked one that was crispy. The skewers were tasty. The ramen was ok. The Charsiu was thinly sliced and it came with like 4 slices so it didn't even feel like I was eating any meat. The restaurant was nicely decorated. read more

My family of 5 and I came for dinner and had an ok experience. While the establishment is vibrant, clean and fully stocked of all your typical ramen condiments, the food itself was lacking. Everyone's dish did not have a satisfying ratio of meat/toppings to noodles. I ordered the tan tan ramen and the noodles were actually clumped together for some parts. I had about 3 full bites of pork at most. Other folks at my table ordered the miso ramen and chicken cutlet dish. Similarly, it was all noodles and broth or rice and cabbage, respectively, with little meat. We also ordered a Thai tea and it was 90% ice. Overall, I would likely not return nor would I highly recommend this spot. It's an ok dinner spot if you're looking to get your ramen fix, but there are surely other places in the Cherry Hill area. read more

This is our first time at Umai Ramen, but not the first time at this location. Previously, it was Kokoro Ramen and I was so sad it closed. The replacement, however, is very worth it. My sister and I came on a Tuesday afternoon, and there was no one here, but less half an hour into our meal, more costumers came. The ambiance is very nice, it's not too dark and there are windows that give bright light. The decorations are cute, very Japan, which obviously this is a Japanese restaurant. Even before entering the restaurant, a server came outside and greeted us and gave us two menus to look at. I got mango strawberry tea and it was so refreshing. My sister got honeydew jasmine green tea and she enjoyed it. We got appetizers: shrimp tempura, calamari, a mushroom skewer, and all 3 came less than 10 minutes after we sat down. Our main entrees were: chicken katsu, and the pork cutlet set. We really enjoyed both, and our server was super nice. He came up to us more than 5 times, but it wasn't annoying because he cleared our plates everytime. They gave us a stamp card for free food as well. Pretty sure they changed owner again. The experience is much worst than the last time. The server started off in providing us water in a small plastic cup, no refill. The ramen bowl portion was small in comparison to other ramen places (for example: Rai Rai Ramen). The ramen my wife got was the vegetable Ramen, barely any taste to it. The Black Garlic Ramen was ok, again portion size too small. There are better ramen places out there. For the amount they are charging, not worth it. I was picked up some ramen noodles at the asian grocery store in the complex. So I saw the banner on the way out and though I'd give a new place some business. SSSOOOO glad I did. The shoyu ramen was packed with bamboo and had a horrid taste. When we sent it back they asked us to smell the bamboo as if we didn't know what it smelled like and like it was normal that it overtook the entire dish. They refused to take it off the bill even though it was inedible. The dishes also came out in two seconds indicating that they had the food already sitting cooked for hours. No wonder the dish was inedible. read more
