Came to Ultimate Spectacle for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome this practice is. From the outside you can almost miss it but when you walk in, it's clean, crisp, staff is so friendly and the eye Dr of course was so knowledgeable, caring and honest. I had found my favorite eye Dr that is no longer practicing at the location I used to to to, I tried then new eye Dr and truthfully it was the excuse to try someone new. After a year of waiting excitedly for my new eye exam, me and my hubby finally got to try someone new and because of the place and the practice, it truly made a difference. From making the appointment to checking out, the girls at the front are just so caring, personable and knowledgeable and most importantly patient and happy to help you. Everything was pretty clean and I was impressed at all the different things included in my exam like a lid ultrasound, photo of my eyeball and so many things I hadn't ever done in a regular routine exam. I didn't leave with any glasses this time but they had some sweet frames that stole my heart. Perhaps next time! read more

Some of the staff in this store have notions of grandeur. It feels like they are doing you a favor when it comes to customer service. I have a very good union insurance coupon plan and literally just got offered 7 choices of eye glass frames to choose from, two for which were children's. They want to up charge you for different frames, which start at least £150+. This store is a scam. This place was my yearly stop but I've had enough with the attitude. However the Optometrist and tech were professional and good. I took my script and went elsewhere for the frames. read more

My wife & I chose Ultimate Spectacle because they accepted our insurance plan, where as many other optometrist's did not. The eye exam itself was OK but felt rushed. When we went to take care of the paperwork after the exams they were not very pleased with the fact that we were not going to get our eye glasses there, their selection was very limited and their prices were very high. We just wanted our eye glass prescription. At that point the manager was not very friendly and she would not give us a hard copy of our eye glass prescription but said she would e-mail it to us within a day or so. We did not receive it for over a week and had to call twice to remind them to send it. When we did receive it we went to another location that had a larger selection and lower prices to get our new eye glasses. We were told they could not do it because the doctor (Optometrist) had NOT signed the new RX we had done. When we called them back and asked if they could have a "Signed RX" sent to us via e-mail the manager said it was too much hassle for them to do that, that we would have to come in person. When we went in person ( I was prepared and had printed out new copies of the three unsigned prescriptions we had had done and that they had e-mailed to us. I also had a self addressed stamped envelope with me too.) the manager said the optometrist was not there so we could not get the papers signed, when we asked her when he would be in she said she wasn't sure. When we asked when his next appointment was so we could get the papers signed she said she could not tell us. Then we asked her if we could leave the papers with her to have him sign when he did come in, and then mail them to us. She made a big issue of not having an envelope or a stamp, so we told her we had brought a self addressed stamped envelope with us. At that point she reluctantly agreed to do it. She told us we'd get it in four or five days. We received the envelope with the three signed prescriptions two weeks later. When we had our new glasses made the right eye for both of us was off, when we asked about getting our eyes re-examined they gave us more hassles. It wasn't worth it for me, but my wife went in and did. When we had her second pair of glasses made up they were still off so we went to another optometrist highly recommended to us and paid out of our own pocket to have our eyes re-examined again ( we couldn't live with these glasses like this as they made feel like an out of body experience or slightly dizzy even after wearing them for four weeks). He told us that they had never properly corrected for astigmatisms we had in our right eyes. I would never go back to Ultimate Spectacle again, and we certainly make sure we tell all our friends and family about the treatment we received there as well as the wrong eye glass prescription because they were in too much of a hurry. read more

She was treated so poorly it took 3 weeks to get her glasses She didn't buy expensive frames . This has to be the worst run and the absolute worst eye care business. The customer service staff including a very RUDE manager were basically nasty and short. The doc who examined me, while 'nice' got my script wrong and when I went back to have him fix he did not test me again, he simply began talking about politics and just made written adjustments to my script. When I picked up the second set of new contacts (supposedly the corrected script) the exactly matched the brand and type and the exact same prescription as my lenses from 5 years ago that my ophthalmologist and my PCP recommended I change. What I really want is a full refund and to find a better optician but I know that won't happen. So I'm out what I spent and have to find a new place and pay completely out of pocket. Very annoyed. So my husband has been going to Ultimte Spectacle for many years. The last time he was there was in 2020. This year he went in to purchase new glasses as his prescription had changed. My husband is elderly. They charged over $1200 for one pair of glasses and one pair of lenses only. Oh, and that is WITH insurance coverage. I went to request the order be canceled and for a refund and was denied. The order was only 3 days old. They refused to even call to cancel. They only offered store credit for the frames. I would NEVER do business with this company. Oh, and I just checked, it is NOT BBB approved! read more

Some of the front desk staff is rude. Always looking to scam you out of more money. Even though, i have vision coverage they also demand my medical insurance information so I guess they can bill twice. They seem oblivious as to why you don't have a card for vision when they should know that working with the difference insurances daily. When you pick out frames that are covered the annoying older white woman with blonde hair, for years has been trying to get you to do "anti-glare" or better lens, but never says it is not covered until she produces a bill charging you for the extra. She then looks at you like you have two heads when you decline. Unbelievable and unprofessional! These front desk workers think they own the damn place and don't have the courtesy to tell you if there are out of pocket expenses before signing you up for stuff. Be very careful going here they will try to suck you dry. Also, on occasion have made appointments for family members and the appointment was for a different day when they showed up and again they look at you like you are in the wrong. The staff here is very nasty and rude. I went three days in a row and got turned away even with an appointment because the doctor wasn't in . I don't know if she was the manager but I missed their call while I was at work and didn't get a chance to check my messages then when I get there she said "if you would check ur messages u would know that ur appointment was canceled" and rolled her eyes. then when I actually have my appointment the next day all of the employees were super rude and acted like they could care less about ANYTHING. with my insurance I've always been able to get a pair of frames covered, but suddenly when I go to this place my insurance only covers 150 dollars ( how convenient). So I decided not to get anything and that really ticked off the lady at the counter ig‍ then I proceeded to ask for my prescription and she said she'll email it to me even tho im standing right there and she had it right in her hand!! 8-24-23 THEY WONT RETURN MY $250 In April this year I went into Ultimate Spectacle and I ordered glasses. Ann Marie said they would not start on the glasses until the morning, as it was already 3 pm on a Thursday. I paid $250. That evening I changed my mind. I called as soon as the store opened and said Id like to cancel my order. The representative told me there are no refunds and that the manager would call me Monday. The manager was cold as ice and unyielding. Its now FOUR MONTHS and I never received any merchandise and they still refuse to return my $250. I have been visiting this business since they were in their original location in the Poughkeepsie Galleria. I've had my eye exams here for over 10 years, purchased contact lenses and also gotten my written script so I could buy my eyeglasses online elsewhere - with no hassle. I've always experienced kind professional service - even as a walk-in. Recently, one of my pairs of eyeglasses somehow got twisted and didn't sit on my face correctly. I walked in, without an appointment and even though the glasses weren't theirs, they took them in the back, straightened them out for me while I waited (only about 5 minutes) and didn't even charge me. Great experience in the South Road Poughkeepsie location. Zee was so professional,patient and accommodating in helping us both very picky clients. The entire staff was pleasant and we felt comfortable in the amount of time my wife and I needed to try on almost the entire stock of glasses. With the help of our Son and Zee, we both picked out glasses and my wife picked hers up today .She is so happy with hers ,they fit perfectly without any adjustments. I came tonight half hour before closing hours, 5:30 p.m. both Ladies were being rude with me and my daughter and they told me they close at 6 and they can't take care of me. I'm working each day until 8PM including Saturdays too and today I asked off from my job to come with my daughter to do her glasses and they practically threw me out of the store being rude and making faces towards me when I was speaking nicely with them. I usually do not Great review things. I needed to replace my frames and lenses so I called my insurance company and was told that this Store would accommodate me and my insurance. The first time there I dealt with the old man optometrist I must say he was rude completely uninformative. He even had the nerve To take a cell phone call from his wife during my time. After the exam, he answered, none of my questions babbled some More And told me to go back to my surgeon, really answering none of my questions or why I needed to go back to my surgeon So I go back to my surgeon. He gives me a regimen of eyedrops for two weeks. I am told after the eyedrops are done. My eyes are fine and to go back to optometrist and get my glasses so I go back for a second visit. this time he was as unfriendly, rude and uninformative as before. Not to mention dressed, pretty, sloppy, disheveled And hand shaking the whole time. Nothing but nice things to say about the lady behind the counter. I think her name was Christine maybe she was so cool so patient that with my insurance Company on the phone for me and later on when I stopped back she said she took care of all the paperwork and everything was in order, but you really brought me at ease thank you. I also must say both receptionist were very helpful. and the younger Latina girl with black hair was really nice and really beautiful. Overall, my experience was good. Please believe the one star reviews of Ultimate Spectacle. They should not be in business. Following discussions with my credit card company to dispute a charge for frames I paid for but never received, Ultimate Spectacle refused to refund my $75 or give me a credit. I had ordered frames to replace ones that had broken, and was told they would order them from the manufacturer. I paid the full amount and was assured that I would be called when the frames came in, which would take about a week. When the week passed with no word from anyone, I called and was told they hadn't come in yet and I would be notified when they did, so that I could come in and have my lenses fitted to the frames. Again, days passed with not a word from Ultimate Spectacle and I called again, left a message and got no return call. After weeks with no response whatsoever, I disputed the credit card charge. Ultimate Spectacle's answer was to deny my claim. They lied and said they had attempted to reach me but said I never returned their calls. All untrue. I never received even one call from them. Nor did they dispute the fact that I had never received the glasses. To this day, I have no idea if they even ordered the frames, much less whether they received them from the manufacturer. Based on some of the other negative reviews, it is entirely possible that they had no intention of ordering the frames I wanted, but planned to trick me into purchasing more expensive frames . My wife had issues with their customer service as well, and despite paying close to $700 for an exam and new glasses (after insurance), felt that her prescription was incorrect because her previous glasses from another optometrist gave her better vision. When she called Ultimate Spectacle to get an appointment with the optometrist to re-check her vision, she was given the runaround. First, they couldn't place who had examined her and she had to describe him, and then she was told she could only see that doctor and he was there only one day a week. Will never go back. read more

Go elsewhere, there are plenty of other eyeglass providers in the area to choose from that appreciate and know how to treat their customers. I spoke with the manager "Elizabeth" because of of an incorrect eyeglass order that the clerks had refused to refund and correct. The problem was that the lenses came with the auto-darkening "Transitions" feature that my son had made clear from the beginning he did not want, and which he had stated multiple times during the ordering process. When he picked them up and pointed out that the lenses were wrong, they told him to take them anyway because he "might like them." He took them, tried them, didn't like them (as he already knew), and returned well within the 30 day return period. But while they said they'd order new non-darkening lenses, they would not refund the cost of the Transitions feature that they had mistakenly included on the original order. The manager would not accept any responsibility for their mistake, and said it was "store policy" not to give refunds. I had been to the store a few days earlier and selected new designer frames for myself, and was scheduled to go there for an eye exam and new eyeglass order tomorrow, but cancelled because of this store manager's poor customer service attitude. She couldn't have cared less. read more

I did a good amount of research before concluding to go to this place. Their prices are way more reasonable compared to lens crafters or any of the other eye glass store at the mall. The doctor was kind & gave good suggestions on how to keep my eyes healthy. I'm surprised by the low rating here, because I had a pleasant experience. The only negative experience-- although I had an appointment I had to wait a half hour, but I can't hold it against them as this is the case for almost all physicians offices. I had no issues with the doctor, but the team that runs the store it's a complete sham they send away their glasses to a lab that does the glasses and the prescription incorrectly and then refuse to refund your money and blame all the mistakes on the doctor when is them and then they fraudulently sign receipts And charge your credit card and falsify information to your insurance provider. They charge your insurance provider using another doctors name and another location. There's nowhere near the Poughkeepsie location and Dr that I've never seen. They signed my receipt and falsified my receipt. They made my lenses backwards and the ophthalmologist noticed it right away and they were just wanted to charge my assurance again. Their manager is disorganized doesn't have no communication skills with their team. Their team was charging me For services that my insurance covers I will never recommend this place ever again. The only thing that's good about this place is the ophthalmologist the one and he's there only Saturdays and he's retired. They throw him under the bus always complain about him when they have technicians in the back, they don't know exactly what they're doing, their front information staff doesn't even know what they're doing either they misplaced information they're unorganized and my personal information is all over the place. I should have read the reviews before I visited. I definitely won't be going back for a few reasons. While the salespeople were rather friendly, the doctor was useless. It was basically a five minute exam with monotone passive-agressiveness and sarcasm that I could have done without. He would cut me off, not let me tell him my concerns, and the exam was hardly one at that - I stuck my head in three machines and I was out the door. basically he was an unpleasant little man. Then I asked the oh-so-friendly saleswoman if I could have my prescription written so I could do a bit of window shopping before I decided to come back and purchases frames. She intentionally wrote my prescription wrong and left out 90% of the information while bluntly saying, "you really should buy them here". There was no more friendliness in her tone. Did I seriously get the mob treatment over my effing eyeglasses? Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. It sucks. read more

-------------------- 3/30/218 UPDATE - Negative stars for these morons! After months of back and fourth with these morons and wrestling with the new lenses they provided constantly falling out of the brand new Ray-ban frames purchased form them at the same time I just give up!. This happens at least once or twice a week and is very problematic. The lenses just pop out at will or fall out in your hand when cleaning them. The retainer screws are as tight as can be yet the lenses just fall out! The initial run around I had with them was bad enough but this is just unacceptable so I ate the financial loss and went to another place and they immediately saw the problem. When they pointed it out to me I was shocked. The lenses actual have space in some areas between the lens edge and the frames in such a way you would not notice if you were not a professional or looking for such. The specialist showed me how they move within the frame and hence why they pop out. Its no wonder I have had a consistent problem. To make it worse form the ongoing movement of the lenses within the frames the lenes are worn on the edges and such movement has rendered the frames no longer true in shape. They are now junk!. With a new doc at the new establishment I also found out that my prescription was not correct but since I have been wrestling with this for months I will chalk that up to a remote possibility that my eyes have perhaps changed. With a fresh exam and a new prescription at my own expense I purchased a new pair of frames from this new place and new lenses with the new prescription. I was clear that I wanted everything exactly the same - now here is the funny part - Upon examining my invoice before paying I told the clerk that I wanted everything the same as the bad glasses ones I had. She said that the order is exactly the same except for the change in prescription. I said, no it is not, you left off the polarization and anti glare. She smiled and politely explained to me that my current lenses form Ultimate spectacle did not have either (and I paid extra for such when I bought them). To say the least I was pissed! Now, you may ask, how do you know who is lying and who isn't? How can you tell if its there or not? Yes, i thought the same thing BUT once my new frames and lenses arrived (and fit me perfectly I might add) it was obvious they were very different . They showed me by looking through my old glasses versus my new glasses at a tool they have to see the difference. When looking at the tool with my new glasses with polarization and anti glare and then looking with my Ultimate spectacle glasses that did not have these features it was evident. I had neither option that I had paid Ultimate Spectacle extra money for! To add more evidence that I had been screwed by ultimate spectacle I went driving at night. To my surprise with my new glasses I no longer have the double glare spots from oncoming headlights and by day in the sun the clarity is amazingly better and glare free. In closing I strongly advise everyone to avoid ultimate spectacle like the black plague! They are simply a money pit that exists for one reason and one reason only - to make a profit no matter what it takes. They do not give a donkeys hoof about your eye health!. read more

i had a very pleasant positive & great experience with getting my new glasses they also made my vision so much better. now what could be better then that? the Doctor gave me all the right positive answers to my questions. & the lady's and staff made my visit so very comfortable also i was so shocked that it took only one day for me to get my glasses i also had a very great experience with them last year. this was my second visit. i will most definitely come back whenever i need my annual eye glasses renewed thanks for everything ! & i would highly recommend them! my best wishes TOMMY A ! read more

This place is completely garbage. The employees are nice but the doctor is an idiot. He asked me "Do you own a pair of glasses?" While my glasses were on top of my head. Not to mention I had irritated eyes and he made me come back every week just to tell me "hmm it still looks irritated. Come back next week." The employees are another story. While waiting for the doctor, a Male employee smacked a female employees' ass. She replied "your a pig." Update: my irritated eyes turns out to be pink eye! Since it was my first time getting pink eye I had no idea. Since my eyes weren't treated for almost 2 months I have SEVERE cornea damage. I am going through intense treatment at the moment. If I waited any longer to go to urgent care I would've gone blind. But what makes me FURIOUS is I went TO A EYE DOCTOR to get help. The "eye doctor" didn't know what was wrong. EDIT: I really wanted to like this place.... BUT they completely stiffed me on my contact order! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE. WAS A FIVE STAR REVIEW, NOW I WISH I COULD GIVE ZERO. When I was ordering my contacts I asked to double my order from a single set of contacts (2x 90 packs of daily contacts) which run at 75$ to two sets (4x 90 packs of daily contacts) for 150$. The only reason I doubled my order was because the 75$ for two sets was about 20% less than what it would be online for a two 90 packs of the same brand. Little did I know that when I came back in to pick them up they only gave me two 90 packs.... I asked why this was the case and they then told me that it was 75$ for a 90 pack. I asked what would have happened if I hadn't asked to double the order. She then asked if I had the same prescription in both eyes, and I don't. So I would have only gotten half of my prescription and only a 45 day set had I not doubled the order? Should management of this business see this review: I would welcome a callback as your team was completely unwilling to explain why I only got half of my order. Original Review: I visited Ultimate Spectacle on a Saturday to renew my prescription to order contacts. After calling many other optical stores and doctors I ended up at this one because they actually had the ability to do exams on the weekend. I called to make an appointment prior to coming in, I was told that they had an open schedule but insisted that I wanted to make an appointment. My appointment time was early in the afternoon between 12 and 1PM, and only took about 30 minutes in total with two people ahead of me and people filtering in and out of the store. When I came in it took five minutes to fill out my paperwork, as I was a new patient at this branch. I am from out of state and out of network with my insurance and they didn't hassle me for paying with a charge card. Once in the exam chair the Dr was very friendly, and professional. She answered the questions I had about my eye prescription and made sure that my new contact lenses were a match because I forgot to bring in a new set. The other staff were chatty, but professional, which lent to a louder than average atmosphere but it might have just been its location in the mall. I would recommend this location for people who are doing a walk in or need to do an exam on the weekend; just make sure to call ahead to insure availability and book an appointment to make sure they will have a space for you! read more

I have been going to the Ultimate Spectacle for a few years now, and every time I go back I wonder why I still do. Last visit I had an appointment first thing in the morning and I sat and waited past my appointment time, to watch the doctor stroll right through the front door 10 minutes late. Another gripe I have with them is that they push to bill your medical insurance for the visit, rather than your Vision plan. Their "medical" procedure is one machine that takes pictures of your eye.. They also have an agenda to push their very expensive frames. They deter you from the ones that are covered by your insurance. You also have to fight to get contact lenses, and they don't want to give you the time of day if you are getting contacts. I am assuming it's because they aren't profitable for them. There are some courteous employees here, but there are a few that do ignore you and have attitude. If you aren't dropping $200 on frames watch how quickly they change their demeanor.. read more

I went to them a month ago to repair a broken frame. At first I was told it would take a couple of days. Then I got a call saying my frame has been discontinued so I have to get a new frame. I asked for a refund of my deposit but I was offered a a new frae because they did not want to give me a refund when I finally got my glasses back the lenses had a scratch on both lenses whis was not there when I brought them in initially and now I am told I have to pay for new lenses. They were the nearest that was on a convenient bus line, so I went there. Arrived with no appointment, so I had to wait a while, but the customer service was pleasant. The doctor was fast, accurate and friendly. Had limited choices, but I feel that is my insurance's fault, not theirs. Did find the one pair of glasses that fitted so perfectly that, for the first time in my life, they did not have to be fitted. Remember, you are there to get one pair of glasses, at most, two. I am happy that all the staff at my favorite eyeglass shop who has been takin care of my family for at least 15 or more years are doing well. The doctor has my respect. He really cares about my son. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and based on my experience with high quality physicians the Dr. is a class act. The staff should not be left out today They are awesome. I spoke with Clarity and explained my my 12 year old lost his glasses. She immediately looked up his prescription and is replacing them at near store cost and sending them to my home for my convenience no extra charge. I love this place.
