Kathy Baldward delivered some of the best customer service I have experienced. She handled a difficult return with patience, professionalism, and excellent problem-solving skills. Rather than giving up when challenges arose, she went out of her way to make sure everything was resolved successfully. On the ninth of July, my wife booked an appointment with this beauty salon for Wednesday the fifteenth of July. We spent Tuesday and Wednesday rearranging our duties and chores so that we could be there, we even left forty five minutes before the appointment to make sure we weren't delayed on our thirty plus minutes trip into town. Only to discover that she had no appointment on the fifteenth. She had given us her card, wife and her texted, plus checked the date on my phone before we left the store. At least she got one star, for services not rendered, but on the good side, we got to have a Jamba Juice (which was well worth a five star review). read more

I booked an appointment to get my hair blown out by Hailee K. for an event about two weeks in advance, and confirmed the appointment a few days ago. I show up day of and on time, and they tell me that it's going to be a 30 minute wait because my stylist is in the middle of a perm. I say I have somewhere to be right afterwards and that I cannot wait that long, they go to see if someone else can take me and come back and apologize saying unfortunately no one else is available. This meant I had to do my own hair last minute, even when I had booked weeks in advance. Both employees who I spoke to were very respectful but were general Ulta employees (not the stylist Haylee K.) and clearly not the ones at fault. I do not suggest using the salon services at all because of how unreliable they are. read more

They don't even allow customers to sample the perfume on their own skin or to spray and sample the perfume. We have to grab an associate each time we want to smell a perfume. They then spray on a tester. It's so inconvenient. we are not toddlers. I will never go in this Ulta again. read more

I wouldn't recommend their salon for anything other than a very basic cut or color. I wanted a brown balayage and layers and I ended up with bright blonde patchy/uneven highlights and uneven layers instead. Went back to get the highlights colored over and a trim to even things out by a new stylist. The cover up is good because it colored the blonde. I wanted at least a partial refund if not full refund because I spent $250 for them to mess up my hair and then color it back... but I still didn't get what I wanted. The balayage. Frankly I don't trust them to try and do it. The manager was unhelpful saying that they "fixed it" so that should be enough. I'm highly unsatisfied and will not recommend them to anybody. read more

I lived in this area six years ago and loved going into this Ulta; the staff was friendly, outgoing and super helpful back then. I have since moved back to SE Vancouver and returned to this Ulta today and had zero customer service--even with plenty of Ulta staff in the store. Not one single person asked me could they help me find anything--they asked other folks near me and they also spent plenty of time chatting each other up, but they made zero effort to ask whether I needed help. Hell, at that point I just took a phone call and left without the products I needed. Very strange for Ulta. I will likely return to the store since it's around the corner from my house; I sure hope they improve their customer service, cause the staff at the Vancouver Mall is pretty incredible and I may just have to drive past this one to go there. read more

I had my make up professionally done. The person who did my make up, was not wearing make up. She said it was because she was running late. If your profession is doing professional, make up on other people, I would think that you would make it a priority that you did not look like you just crawled out of bed. I visited this store with my husband this weekend to find him hair products and we got no help. I saw two groups of workers standing around talking, one about their waxing habits.. I saw one person pop around the corner to look at us twice, but not once did she offer to help us find products that would work for his hair. I went in to both shop and pickup an online order. The employee at the register was nice, checked me out, and found my online order. That is unfortunately where the problem began. I had ordered 2 of an item and my bag only had one. I showed a different employee my order on the Ulta app, but she took my item and talked to at least one other associate about it. At this point I felt like I was being treated like a liar and/or thief. I had literally just spent $185 and they're making a big deal over a $15 item they failed to put in the bag. So now two associates come back up to the front and both look at my order on the Ulta app. I was told they couldn't accept that as proof, again making me believe they think I'm a liar/thief, and that they needed to look it up further. That's fine, I won't argue with process, but all they had to do was scan a barcode to pull my order up and prove I was correct. Why did the first associate not just do that instead of taking more of my time and treating me like a liar/thief while wandering around and talking about me to her co-workers? I went in and I am a cosmetologist but makeup is not my strong suit and there were two people working in the higher end makeup section and they were absolutely wonderful and very personable! I had to tell the cashier about how great they were too and she was wonderful as well!!! Was checking out with a girl named Bleona and she was so dismissive and rude. As I was checking out I asked if I could use points and she said "cancel your transaction" and she pressed the cancel button before I could. Then I just stood there waiting for her to say what to do next and it was a long awkward silence so I said "do I pay now?" And she was like "oh yeah go ahead." So I basically just stood there while she looked around for no reason. And then finished my transaction, gave me my stuff, and walked away. I'm not even going to talk about the constant lack of staff or the fact that the scents are so overwhelming when you walk in. Nope. This is about their lack of mask enforcement. I was in today for a return, noticed a customer not wearing a mask and motioned to the "bouncer" that this customer isn't wearing one. The girl shrugged, came over to me and said "yeah but we can't say anything." Bullshit. Then why all the signs everywhere and why are you standing in front. Boo boo. What a great experience I had with my daughter at Ulta today! I rarely feel so happy after spending $150 on makeup but I literally left the store talking about what a great time we had. Our cashier, Joshlynn, was absolutely amazing! Not only was she about the friendliest person I've had the pleasure of speaking to in quite a while, her hair, makeup and clothes were on point. They didn't have it unfortunately, but Sandra Tran really took her time to help me find something that I would love. She also gave me samples of other items to try. Every time I go these ladies are more than helpful. Everyone is wonderful and if things aren't in stock they're willing to help you get it. I'm an MUA and also a model, so I'm a frequent visitor at Ulta and this location in particular. They're not usually ever out of stock of items, and their selection is wide. I went in the store looking for hair highlighter. One employee asked me if I needed help and I told her I was looking for a highlighter. She replied highlighter? And I told her hair highlighter. She looked at me as if she did not understand me. Then I told her to highlight my hair. She brought me to the hair color aisle. I said I needed the brush on type because I have alopecia. She told me all the boxed highlighters are for fuller hair and I should go to a professional because of the alopecia. I said I wanted my hair highlighted today. She said "I can do that for you". It irritated me because all I wanted was to bring home a kit and put a few highlights around my face so I said I was not going to spend $100 for a few highlights. Then she walked away and I got no further help. I did not like the sells pitch when all I wanted was to pick up a hair highlight kit. I left and took my business elsewhere. I found what I wanted right away at a different retailer. Other times I have gone to this location I never got help and always left empty handed because it is very difficult to find items. Brow bar review - I've seen a few different brow specialists and was not happy with my experience and how my brows got waxed. I was giving this place one more chance and that's when I saw Chrissy, she is the best! She takes the time and shows you what's going happen. Her style fits what I was looking for. She Answers your questions and provides appropriate recommendations. I always leave feeling happy about my brow wax. She's talented and cares about her customers and their experience. OMG. After trying almost every stylist in the Portland metro and Vancouver area, I gave up and did my hair coloring myself, which I abhor doing. I decided to give Ulta Salon a try, and I am so glad I did!! Saige was my stylist and we hit it off right away. She listened and knew EXACTLY what I wanted and the look I was going for, which isn't easy to do with fine hair. Not only did she give me a haircut which left the length, but gave me the fullness I need. My color is absolutely gorgeous. I could not be happier, I love my hair now, thank you Saige!!! Normally I would give Ulta 3-4 stars for the awesome full-size Calvin Klein mascara birthday gift and the fact that they carry a lot of high-end hair care products. But this specific location fails to uphold the same standards of other Ulta's I've been to... Came in to get my free bday gift and pick up lipstick for my mom. The moment I walked in, I saw a sales associate standing in front but she didn't greet me. I walked over to the "prestige" make up sections and the lady followed me and proceeded to stare yet not offer any help. I browsed around after looking for my mom's lipstick (which they didn't even have the right shade for...they've been out for almost 2 weeks!) and walked by at least half a dozen sales associates. Not one bothered to greet me, ask if I needed help looking for anything, or even acknowledge my presence. It's not like it was super busy--I saw a few just standing around talking to each other. I even made eye contact with an associate who just walked away. Service = 0 stars. I also noticed that the make up area isn't well kept or very clean. The testers look mangled and have product crusted all over the sides. A lot of the displays are missing their testers (you just see empty holes where the tester should have been) and seem a little unorganized. I tried out some products on my hands and when I wanted to clean it off, there was only ONE station in the entire store and it wasn't even fully stocked. There were cotton swabs, tissue, and a spray bottle of what I believe is just tap water....I still have foundation two shades too dark on my hands as I type out this review. Finally, as I was about to check out, the same sales associate that DIDN'T help me at the beginning asked if I needed any help. We talked about different products and I asked about her awesome eyelashes (perfectly fanned out and feathery, they were gorgeous)! She proceeds to tell me that she uses a particular mascara and serum (not available at Ulta) that causes them to grow extra thick and long. Umm...I can clearly see the inner corner of the falsies on your left eye starting to peel off. I stifled a laugh and was tempted to ask her the brand she wears but refrained. All in all, Ulta is not that special to me. They carry the same drug store brands I could get at Walgreens (for cheaper) but don't carry higher end brands like NARS, Hourglass, or Make Up Forever. The people here are not friendly, except for the gal who rang up my purchase, although she couldn't explain to me how beauty blending sponges work. I think I'll just stick with Sephora! read more

I usually love coming in to Ulta because the people are USUALLY super nice and welcoming. Clearly, this location didn't get the memo. The two sales associates at the front counter were not only dismissive but made me feel very uncomfortable when one looked me up and down like I didn't belong in there. Lucky me, she was also the one to help me with my online pick up. She did all but roll her eyes when asking me if I needed help with something...at the online pick up counter with my ID visible in my hand. I moved out of Vancouver several years ago but I try to come back for my haircuts when I am in town for the holidays. I'm quite selective when it comes to getting a haircut. I have very thick hair that isn't easy to cut or style. I found that Carissa had a spot available this morning and I wanted to try it out. The haircut was only $47 (which is cheap compared to where I live now). She was very friendly. She asked what I wanted to do with my hair, offered some great suggestions, and did exactly what we discussed. I was very pleased with my haircut. I got a 60 min custom facial from Sara(h?)and it was awesome !they use dermalogica products , they are great and have options for sensitive skin. Sara was a great! I made an appointment for a trim at your Columbia tech. It was 40 mins before the scheduled time as I lived nearby. I got a missed call from Miriam asking if I can go in 30 mins early before my appointment time. I was unable to answer my phone. I arrived for my appointment and she was a little confrontational asking why I didn't answer my phone asking if I had my phone on me. Than 15 mins after my appointment she was also dealing with another appointment who wasn't scheduled with her for her to tell me I would need to reschedule my appointment as it would take up too much time or it's not enough time. Frankly I'm very disappointed as I really wanted to make this work and have ulta be my go to salon and not only just a place I go to for make up etc. will not recommend their salon services nor Miriam to anyone I know or come across asking for recommendations. read more

If you have long hair and are planing on getting your hair cut at the salon I wouldn't. I asked for two inches off of my hair that was at my waist and now my hair doesn't even cover my boob. Spoke with a stylist in person who gave me a quote for a full color for $70. Called to schedule an appointment and the girl quoted me $200. When I told her I spoke with someone in person she changed her tune to $60. I asked to see if any of the stylists had an online portfolio that I could take a look at and they said they do not offer that to customers to see. * UPDATE 8/2/2014* I was here yesterday to buy a Bare Minerals make up pack, waited in the ridiculous line, got to the cashier and handed her my products and coupons. The cashier was extremely rude and spoke to me like I was an idiot because one of the coupons I had presented wasn't for the *prestige* make up. I told her I knew that and would like to use it for something else, and showed her the other coupon which was acceptable. She huffed and processed the rest of my transaction. When I told her I wanted to also receive my free mascara for my birthday, she told me not only could she not give me the mascara because they were out of stock, but because my coupon was invalid. I needed two bar codes to scan for the product. I glared at her, flipped over the page to show her the second bar code had printed on the back (ever heard of double sided printing?!) and she told me again she couldn't process the transaction, but to call ahead and see when they would have them, because she didn't know. I got home, opened my make up kit, and noticed that a powder was missing. This sent me over the ledge. Now I had to return to the store to exchange it for a complete pack. Fast forward 24 hours and I'm back at the store. As I am on my way to the Bare Minerals section, I notice there is only one cashier (who is actually the store manager) and the line wraps around the aisles. I took a deep breath and perused the store for nothing in particular as I waited for the line to go away. Keep in mind, it's a Saturday around noon. The line isn't going anywhere. I grab the item I want to exchange and I get in line. Some 15-20 minutes later, I'm almost next. The thing is, I could have been helped so long ago, but there is too much gabbing going on. I'm all for customer service and being nice, but when you are the ONLY person at check out and have a line AROUND the aisle, you need to be professional AND time efficient. The only saving grace was the Clinique lady handed out free samples as crowd control. I exchanged my item and was out of there, but that is no way to run a business. I understand it's a chain beauty store, but that was ridiculous. I would rather go to the Ulta in Beaverton after school than go to the one closest to my house. read more

The salon at this Ulta is mediocre at best. I had a great stylist and found out recently she was no longer there. I have am disabled & suffer from narcolepsy. There were other stylist there that I over heard saying some unprofessional comments. I have some issues falling asleep and overhead them gossiping about me. I am not deaf, just suffer from unfortunate aftermath from a brain injury I have due to a car accident. The stylist I had was amazing & am glad I was able to find her. As for the rest of the store, I can never get any help, the girls stand around and talk to eachother & ignore everyone else. I used to love this store but now prefer Janzen Beach store. I will not go here for any hair apps again. And only come here if I am desperate & in need of something immediately. read more

Ulta has a great selection of beauty and hair care products (and services, although I have never used the services) in a convenient location. The staff has always been helpful and at least somewhat knowledgeable about the line of products they carry, at least on the higher end side. There is typically always someone to help you find products when you need it. They tend to always have sales and coupons (be careful though, the coupons tend to exclude a ton of brand names!) which is good as they tend to be higher priced however, the return policy makes it worth it in many cases, especially when you are trying a new product and you just aren't sure it will work on you until you have a chance to use it "in the real world". I have purchased hair care products like curling irons and straighteners that, based on reviews, I thought I would love but did not work well on my hair type. No problem. Just save all the packaging and receipt and return within their allowed period. I recently purchased a couple high end lipsticks, which when I tested in the store I loved, however when I got them home, and tried them there, and in natural light, etc a few did not blend well with my skin tone. Ulta accepted these back without issue. You must return with at least 70% of the product remaining (I returned the next day) I kept what I liked, returned what did not work, and shopped again. I like having this option, however I would not like abuse this policy, so I try to be fairly certain I want a product before buying, but the security of knowing you are not wasting your money if it doesn't work out makes me more likely to treat myself to a higher end product that I might otherwise pass over. One downside to this location is that they do not carry MAC cosmetics, but the Cascade Station and Jantzen Beach locations do and are not too far away. They don't carry all brands of everything, who does? That said, if Ulta as a whole carries MAC, why not this location? Maybe it's a smaller store, and not enough room for everything. It's also convenient if you need a mixed bag of "Prestige" products as well as everyday "drugstore" brands for one stop shopping! read more
