I went in with natural hair - wavy/curly almost 2 months ago. I asked for wispy bangs and light layers. While the bangs were STRAIGHT they were halfway down my forehead so once I wash them they're even worse and minuscule with the shrinkage from my natural hair. The stylist was not very friendly it was the end of the day I get it. But because someone had one bad day two months ago, I have to stare at my awful haircut every. single. day. Ms. Emma Cassady of this St. Johns Center ULTA should be HIGHLY RECOGNIZED for her amazing knowledge of skin products & professional, caring outlook to customers. Although I have shopped at ULTA in Mandarin previously, I was beyond lucky to have met her while at this location. After working in Finance Mgmt. over 35 years & always using good products, she helped me for a long time as my under eye puffiness/find lines/dryness were my problem areas, although I had been using quality products. She was so thorough in going through steps I had been trying/products & took time to try the priority products/suggestions on me with best time-frames in applications, etc. Before I left the store, my entire under eye/face area looked & felt better. She wrote down the exact skincare steps for the product line I changed to (Clinique) & also researched for my Chanel face makeup that was recently discontinued to find out another Chanel product very similar & gave me a sample to try, as well as 2 other free samples....She is a true asset to ULTRA & Customer Care. While I was standing in line, two other customers said they only shop at this location of ULTA because of their staff/Care...one driving from Fernandina Beach. I came to this location while I was in the area. When I stopped in, I had an idea of what I wanted to get, so I headed back towards cosmetics. I went to the brand I was looking for and was able to see they had pretty much restocked the whole thing, so I had my choice of items, which was nice. Making decisions was harder. After taking about 20 minutes to decide on a few products, I was ready to head to the checkout counter. I waited in line for roughly 5 minutes. Due to purchasing a certain dollar amount on a particular brand, I was able to get a free gift. Unfortunately they were out of the free gift, but the girl at the counter was nice enough to give me some other options, which I appreciated. All in all it was a pleasant experience. read more

Jenna was so helpful and knowledgeable about mascara and lipstick or gloss options and she even googled perfume ingredients and moved to the perfume section testing all types of scents for us. The girls at the checkout counter could use some tips on customer service from these two ladies. People here are nice here, however I had a bad experience getting my perfume engraved for my wedding. The girl ended up engraving the back of my perfume?? She told me it was the only way the machine would take it and didn't ask my consent to engrave it on the back when we clearly discussed it being on the front. Very disappointing. It can be a pain to match foundation to your face when you're in between seasons, too light and you give corpse, too dark and well can give leather bag. Yet, Dawn with her lovely blonde pixie cut has figured it out. I swore I would be a MAC girl from the cradle to the grave, then I met Dawn. She introduced me to Lancôme, with its full coverage with a kiss of a glow. Unfortunately, the store is out because of a rebranding of the product. Lancôme who asked you to switch up the game? I digress-- Dawn didn't fret when I came in after months of hibernation to introduce me to my new favorite liquid foundation by Chanel. The fact that Dawn gave me her undivided attention and wouldn't stop until we found the perfect match brought tears to my eyes. Where will you find that kind of customer service when an associate isn't working on commission in 2023? Dawn is modest and cares about the service she provides. I came here a few months ago to shop with my pals. It is your standard Ulta store with all the usual brand and goodies. Thankfully they are providing hand sanitizer, limiting capacity and the staff are wearing face mask. I personally appreciated the extra safety and care for their customers. The customer service was excellent, I was on the hunt for my favorite concealer in my color and a staff member went out of their way to find the perfect shade for me. The parking is a-little hectic where this store is located but it makes up for it in charm and service. If you need beauty supplies, this place has it all! read more

I've never been manipulated, actually threatened, into creating an account!! I don't shop often at ulta, so, as I was making my purchase, the girl at the register told me I need an account in case I need to return something, without it, even if I have the receipt, I won't get all of my money back, just the lowest price the item has ever been sold for......didn't sound right to me, if I have a receipt, all money should be returned, no questions. I could tell she was kinda clueless, so I asked to speak to the manager to clarify, and he did say she was telling me wrong, only without receipt that would happen and will go onto store credit. And then he told me I'm gonna create an account, and I can either do it now or later, whether I like it or not, it was going to happen..... I'm not kidding, It felt like a threat! To shop at Ulta, they are going to twist your arm into creating an account..... idiotic, inappropriate and unprofessional. Honestly Shantel cut my friend's hair so poorly that I refuse to ever consider Ulta for hair cuts/dyes. I only pop in if there is something I need right away. They carry the make-up I use daily and I have been in on the weekend when it's crazy busy and they have reps from various businesses helping you pick product. That's fun- right now with Covid, I don't think they are doing that. At least they didn't yesterday and sample testers were off limits- for obvious reasons. I was running in for a specific product- which is my norm. I recently became addicted to Color Street Nails- and the parent company sells the same product, but different patterns at Ulta and Walmart. For less than buying through a consultant! Score. I saw a design I really wanted and Ulta had 1 left! I ended up grabbing another one too- because I just can't resist. But I will be keeping an eye out for new ones. Three stars because service is usually lacking. There were 3 women behind the counter- 2 shuffling around together- not looking like they were actually doing anything and one working register as a line grew behind me. Currently they are under construction, so the place doesn't look like the usual store. However, I am impressed with their customer service. I always have around 7 different people asking me if I'm finding everything ok. Sometimes it can almost be too much, like you feel like they are thinking your trying to steal. Service is horrible in-store and by phone. I wanted an item from the 21 Days of Beauty event but they were out of stock in-store. The employee tells me they can order it for me and I can get the item for the same price. They failed to tell me they would charge me shipping. I knew the total seemed a little off but she was talking so much to me and another employee that I didn't get to address it. She told me the order would arrive on Wednesday. I keep getting notifications that the order date has changed: from Wednesday to Friday to Saturday to Tuesday. I'll be out of town next week so I won't get it at that time. I'm already upset that I was charged shipping because essentially I didn't pay the sale price when you factor that in. I called customer service and they refused to refund me or do anything. I have to wait until I come back in town to take it to a store to return it and that's if the package is still at my front door when I return and hasn't been stolen. All of this nonsense when I could've just went to another location. read more

Ask for Zuly and you will get an awesome haircut! I got my first service from this salon today. There was a little bit of a wait as it was a busy Sunday. Zuly was very friendly and did a great job. I got balayage for the first time. The back has some really cool dark colors. I wanted a bit more of a contrast, but I can wait til I come in next time to brighten the blond. It was a little chaotic with some of the stylists trying to quickly get clients out the door. However, everyone was very polite and definitely demonstrated that they valued my time. Ulta at St Johns Town Center has progressively gotten worse over the years. Each time I go my experience has gotten worse. This weeks visit was the catalyst for me to switch to Sephora. The store is filthy, completely disorganized, with several items out of stock. The staff seemed distracted, and tired. No one offered to help me. No one. One disheveled employee did, however, awkwardly work around me as I was trying to color match myself with a new Bare Minerals Powder. ‍ Don't let me get in your way. Farewell Ulta. My biggest regret now, is not spending that $400 in Sephora instead. read more

I second Allie A.'s opening statement in her review, "It's really kind of embarrassing the amount of money I spend in here..." It truly is, but oh how I love Ulta! I stop in here nearly every single time I'm at The Town Centre. It's always nice to pick up a little treat for myself, even if it's just a bottle of new nail polish, and they have a really nice selection of nail polish, btw. I like that the store is large, open, and bright. Everything is so nicely organized and it's very easy to find what you are looking for. If you can't find what you're looking for or need assistance in anyway, the employees are more than helpful and knowledgeable. I love the rollerball perfumes and prefer purchasing my perfume that way rather than by the bottle. Makes it very easy to slip inside my small handbag. The selection of rollerball perfumes they have here is excellent and they have many of the popular designer brands at good prices. There are a couple of products from the Benefit line that I can't live without and I'm happy they carry that particular line here. Got my hair cut today by Hailey, she is awesome. My hair looks so much healthier and fuller. I wish I would have gotten some before pictures but the layers as you can tell are going to add so much to my otherwise plain Jane long brown hair. I love it. Even after throwing my hair up in a bun and taking it back down real quick to take a photo it looks beautiful. She is a true artist and definitely knows what she is doing. Not bad, could be better. I find myself usually wandering the store alone and hardly ever find an employee available to help or that seems interested in helping me. The bathrooms are horrifying- both times I've tried to use them I've just walked right back out. The high end section never has any tissues or implements to clean off product, which makes testing the testers really difficult. Lines are always long and in a weird place in the middle of the store. Overall, I've seen better Ulta's and I've seen much worse. I do love their selection, but their staffing and cleanliness procedures could be improved. read more

She knew exactly what I was trying to explain in terms of what I wanted and explained to me in detail what she was going to do to achieve it. I have a 2 year old and a 5 year old at home and my husband is on deployment so it was a trip out for me to relax and take care of myself. I didn't talk the entire time and it was glorious and she didn't try to push to make conversation. I really needed that. I was relaxed and she was in her zone. I am ecstatic about my hair. The color had been patchy, bright in one area, faded in others and my roots were very gray so I had low expectations it would be corrected. But, it turned out amazing. I'd drop a phot if I could. Ask for Niki (Nikita). She's fairly new so you'll pay less but you will get an extremely professional top notch service. Don't shop at this ULTA! I frequent ULTA a lot, all throughout the United States and spend more money than I probably should there. I love the brand and I love the products they sell. I typically enjoy my experience when I'm in ULTA but the ULTA at the town center is by far the most poorly run ULTA I've ever been to. They rely wayyy too heavily on their location to maintain sales and attract customers - and the store manager is a joke. That will be my last time spending money at that location. Roosevelt location on the Westside has much better customer service. read more

I came here to get my hair cut and colored and left with what I thought was an ok head of hair (a much shorter than I wanted, but I was ok with it if it came out ok). A couple days later I ended up washing it, blow drying it, and straightening it. I came to see how badly my hair was left unfinished with the cut I had wanted and completely broke down. I NEVER spend money on my hair, so spending $150 for cut, color, and style was a lot for me. And this being Ulta, I expect almost perfection. But I didn't get any kind of experience, all I got was my scalp burned by the hair color, and a really bad haircut. I also want to mention, that my hair was brought behind my shoulders for just about the entire duration, so by the time she had cut off way more length than what I wanted, it was too late. And there was no real "layers" put in, just uneven pieces everywhere. She used a set of old looking buzzers for most of the cut. I did call a few days after and received my $41 back for the hair cut portion, but I had to go elsewhere and spend even more money than THAT to have it fixed. So I really wish I would have gotten the entire $145 and change back, for the fact that I just spent another $75 yesterday to get it fixed, and the rest of that for personal trauma for the last week. I am leaving 2 stars for the outcome of the color/toner. It came out good enough to where I can use my purple shampoo and it looks platinum again like I wanted. During the 21 Days of Beauty event, my wife asked me to pick up some facial cleanser that was half off. I was hoping for a quick in and out but then saw how crowded it was due to the promotions. As I walked in, I noticed the long line at checkout. Well, to my surprise, they had staff available to help me quickly find what I was looking for. I am a big ol' nerd when it comes to beauty and skincare products, and generally, Ulta is a great chain to satisfy my desire to spend hours comparing colors, looking at labels, and trying to convince myself that $200 is totally feasible for beauty products on a grad student salary. But this particular store is a bit of a frustration. The wait to check out during busier but still non-peak shopping times can exceed 10 minutes, and yet I frequently feel like I see employees finding ways to avoid customers. It also feels like you have to be a decent scavenger to find items, as the shelves are sometimes messy and smaller stocked products are frequently not matched up to the bin labels. But the biggest issue to me is cleanliness, or a lack thereof. Each time I go in, the shelves themselves look like they could really use a wipedown, but I also see partially empty, clearly opened items on the shelves. On products that don't come with safety seals, I hate the idea of having to meticulously check item to decipher whether it's been tried out already. I know people can suck at any store, but this one either doesn't look out for used products or doesn't care. I'll stick to shopping with them online. read more

I came in looking for a shampoo and conditioner for my newly dyed bright red hair but as it is my first time dying it this color I had no idea where to start as far as a good color depositing but moisturizing one. Madi immediately had a smile on her face as I approached to ask and then gave me a great recommendation! She explained the product and why she loved it having used it herself. Buying makeup sucks salty nuts. There should be a machine created by now that you step into, push buttons, and come out looking presentable. But until then there's Ulta. I can't stop mistakenly calling this place Ultra. Buying makeup is unnecessarily difficult. Like what the hell is the difference between creme, frost, glaze, or satin? I just wanted lipstick. After hitting up two drug stores and having no luck, a friend recommends this place. Bless her heart! I walk in just as confused as ever but am approached by friendly faces and an older woman compliments me on my shoes. :-) I find myself draw to the girls getting their hair and makeup done. The artist are so relaxed and friendly. When they step back you see the skills painted on the girls. Several times I hear women say that this place is a dangerous addiction. I really suck at names but one blonde girl approaches and just says, "I can help." Those words are golden. She's not trying to sell me anything or push me into any area - just help. And within seconds I'm at the register completing my purchase. I make it to the door and make a big u-turn back into the store. The first time I came I had a horrible impression, when they said my stylist wasn't there and they could fit me in if I waited to which I complained (I mean why didn't anymore call me?) and then they magically had someone available she was incredibly rough and seem generally annoyed. But i decided to give it another chance and Monica has been great. She has done two blow drys for me and she is a perfectionist who understands my hair. I'm glad I them another chance. read more
