Truly an amazing experience! I don't usually go into make-up stores, so was completely lost here. I needed foundation and concealer. As soon as I walked in, Gracie greeted me and offered to help. After talking a little about my preferences and skin type, she recommended the Ulta collection so I could also get a gift bag with free samples. Since I have never bought from here, we needed to color match my skin and Gracie got it on the first go! She is really a pro! Ulta is my go-to place for my hard-to-find brand of shampoo. This location is, however, a huge disappointment. I followed the directions for curbside pick up and waited 15 minutes before giving up and going inside. There were sales associates milling around the store, and one young woman was managing the front counter. The story was not busy, making it obvious that no one was paying attention to online orders. After standing in line for another five minutes, the sales associate did not acknowledge negligence or even apologize for the now 20-minute wait. Instead, she pulled my order and sent me on my way. Customer service is clearly not a priority here. I will not return to this location. read more

I just wanted to say how unhappy I am with this Fairfax City location. The store itself is fine with many good products. However, I made an appointment 2 times to get my eyebrows done. The first time I got a call that the appointment was canceled due to an apparent family emergency. Things happen, so I made another and got to the salon on time, I was told that the person would not be there and no one else could help me. I did not get the courtesy of a call this time. Popped in here to grab a few things and it was still early and the store had just opened so there was not too much as far as customer traffic taking place. Besides the staff member behind the counter there didn't seem to be anyone else, at least while I was in there present on the floor to assist customers. I was greeted upon entry and that was the existent of the customer service I received during the duration of my visit. Unfortunately they did not have what I was looking for and with there only being one staff member present who was helping a customer check out, I decided against waiting to see if I could order what was looking for. The location is helpful if you are already in the shopping center however it might not be my first choice due to the lack of customer service availability. read more

I'm single and ready to mingle. That's right ladies the "Bald Beetlejuice" is back on the scene, although a bit more behaved than Michael Keaton was in that hilarious movie. Got a big personality, but after talking to the ladies here, got solid reconnaissance on exceptional colognes. No I'm not going in for hair loss, or other treatments as am all unapologetically male. The only skincare I'll work on is remembering sun tan lotion, and shaving perhaps a bit more gently. Very welcoming store for this caveman. The selections of Armani Profumo and Chanel Allure Homme Sport, thank you! Ladies have been noticing these, and you are correct, us guys need a way to generate a bit of mystery and attention at the same time. Very good advice and much appreciated. They have so many colognes in here, and based on their pricing it's competitive. Yet what matters most is personal service, and here you'll find it. 8/3/21 Back on Sunday, we stopped by this location to pickup so body products.  My wife was looking for makeup,while I checked out the body scrubs to see if there was more watermelon body scrub.  Much to my surprise there wasn't anymore.  However,  there were four of the watermelon body creams.  I bought one of them,  but they cost $8.99 in case you were wondering.   The smell of the body cream is just as sensational as the body scrub. I would be sure to try it out a day or two later. While still in the store, I saw a foot scrub pad which turn out to be a scrub for one's booty. The pad is meant to get rid of the cellulite one's butt, legs and anywhere else.  I might have to try this out.  I have found a few bumps on my legs, thighs and butt.   Hey, if it works and can make me feel better about my body, I am all for it.  Back in highs school I head of the word metrosexual and did not fully understand the word. "A heterosexual male with a strong interest in fashion, appearance and other lifestyle characteristics traditionally associated with women."   I discovered  today there are several new words  , but I am already digressing.  Still, being metrosexual is okay, that is fine with me.    Ulta has more products I have yet to explore, but I am sure I will be back for more products once I start to run low on the products I already have. We shall return. Oh, and by the way, the watermelon body cream smells nice but to me the fragrance isn't as strong as Bath and Body Works lotion.   I found the scent to disappear more quickly than it rival products. read more

This review is for the salon. I got my hair washed and cut by Niara . The price was amazing, I've gone to higher end salons and paid 4x the price, but the quality of work executed by Niara beats anything I've ever gotten done at these high end salons. I came in summer time with the temps reaching the 100s , the blowout she gave me is still in tack. My hair feels soft, shiny and I'm so pleased with the cut she gave me. Shes attentive, prompt, and her work speaks for itself. Ulta really hired a gem ! Shes positive , up beat and I can't wait to sit in her chair again. read more

I'm a guy that knows nothing about make up but have been wanting to start wearing some light make up and had no idea where to start. I stopped in to get some foundation and concealer matched and honestly I'm blown away by the difference. Brittany was absolutely wonderful! She was so friendly and bubbly and matched my shade/found a product that was PERFECT for me! Again, I'm a guy that doesn't know anything about make up, and she recommended a 4 in 1 long wear foundation/concealer and showed me how to apply it. They specialize in grooming products for women and men. So they have everything you could possibly need for hair care, skin care, body, hair salon on site, and decent selection of popular fragrances, and of course make-up. I come here when I want to try out a new hair line, shampoo, deep conditioner, etc. They often have pretty good deals like But 1 Get 1 Half Off , so I'll stock up. On this particular occasion I was looking for a new product line by Shea Moisture. They also sell fancy blow dryers, hair curlers, fancy flat irons, and technology like that. The service was inconsistent. One gal was sort of flighty and very full of herself to be quite honest! I asked for help, she said she would be back, I waited and she failed to check back on me. I got the question answered by someone else when I was at the register. Then the first gal made a big production to make it appear that she was on top of things, but she was making things up. The lady that ended up helping me was polite, very knowledgeable, and provided accurate information about a product line that they were most likely going to discontinue. She also told me about the frequent shopper program to earn points, etc. Cool. When people are full of it, it shows. When people are sincere and knowledgeable, it's greatly appreciated!! read more

This place has continuously treated my wife like crap almost leaving her in tears! Ulta is one of the few stores she enjoys as she loves makeup. The employees are snobs and will only talk to women who look all dolled up and wealthy. No one ever greets her when she walks into the store but they greet everyone else. No one ever comes to help her when she asks for assistance. Most of the employees at the front are snobby A-holes (excuse my language) with mega attitudes. The bad: - Horrible, horrible, selection. I am assuming because there's a lot of foot traffic at this location that they run out of product extremely fast. Pretty much all over picked and to prevent people swatching the untouched product they should put more testers out. Testers are pretty much nonexistent for the "drugstore" side of the store but of course fully stocked on the "higher end" side of the store. - They don't automatically tell you what points you have available on your rewards card so during your transaction so BE SURE to ASK prior to paying if you have any points available to put towards this purchase. Sucks that they don't automatically tell you this so you just need to remember. The good: - Some what organized. - Great sales (I got to get a free robe for my perfume purchase) - The ladies at the cash wrap (at least from my experience) were great! I did an online exchange and she was very helpful and we laughed a bit over small talk. After my exchange I went and shopped and during my transaction a had a different girl and she was very nice! - Great store location, in Fair City Mall Tip: - ULTA almost always has coupons codes or discount codes to use if you go to their website so check it out before paying. I just got back from having my brows done at the Benefit Bar in the ULTA in Fairfax, VA. A woman named Wala did my brows. I have to tell you she game me the best brow service I have ever gotten. Really really. Wala was very pleasant, skilled, thorough, and detail oriented. I think she aimed to tame almost every hair on my brow! She was very good with the wax tape and tweezers. When she finished, my scant brows looked even, arched, full, and very nicely shaped! After she finished the shaping she applied a concealer, brow color, and wax. Dont take your daughter here for prom hair. They made my dayghter wait 3 hours before they even started to do her hair. She missed dinner with her friends despite the fact we had made the appointment 3 months in advance. The salon manager had two friends that walked in wanted to have their hair done for dinner with their husbands she bumped my daughters to do her friends. They laughed and visited as my daughters sat and cried because they knew they would be late for prom. I complained to the store manager and they admitted it happened and gave me the styles for free but it didn't make up for the girls missing dinner with their friends. I don't know if I care about the poor salon management as much as I am upset that they just didn't care that my daughters were upset missing dinner on prom night.It was horrible and I will never forget them laughing as my daughters sat crying. read more

I was literally standing in front of the sales clerk and she was working on something for another customer who had already left the store. I stood there while two clerks worked on something for customer who had already left the store. Finally, I asked can you please help me because I am standing right here in front of you and have already given you my phone number 3 times because you were too busy to hear my talking. I was just at the Ulta location today looking for a new perfume. I wasn't sure what exactly I was after, so I spent some time by myself smelling some samples. A young lady, I wish I could remember her name, asked if I needed help. She showed me a couple perfumes, then got a coworker involved to answer some questions. Again,I wish I remembered her name. The 2nd woman found me exaty what I was looking for without me even knowing exactly what that was! She helped me find the perfect perfume for me and I love it!! I really appreciate the 1st woman I was working with, and I love that she was comfortable getting more assistance from a Coworker, rather than guessing if she was unfamiliar. This review will not be of my traditional scoring system because it is more of an account of what happened rather than a measurable review. Before writing up this review I decided to read up on some of the past reviews about this location and noticed a pattern from people writing up negative review, the employees seemed to be a big issue. Maybe we should have read the reviews about this place before coming here to get my sister's hair done for her prom. Turned out to be a mistake. The statements below are copy of my wife's complaint and I was too lazy to rewrite my own... """ Today my mother, my sister and I went to Ulta Beauty in Fairfax City Mall. I had scheduled an appointment for my sister's hair and makeup for her prom tonight. I scheduled the appointment in person with Stacey at the salon desk and she was very nice and gave me a pamphlet with a coupon for $15 off salon services. I asked her if I could use it for my sister's appointment. She said yes and I told her that I definitely would. Stacey did my sister's hair today and Fatima did her make up. Both very nice and respectful. Even Sophie helped with her make up and was nice to us. When everything was done I got the ticket from Sophie and went to the register. There was one lady there she seemed to be struggling with her register. No one came to help her until the line had 5 customer waiting. Only then what it seemed to be a manager and another associate came. The manager helped the struggling lady and the other employee got hold of the other register. When it was my turn, I got Raiza and I gave her the ticket Sophie gave me. I mentioned the coupon to Raiza. She immediately said that she didn't THINK she could apply the coupon at the register. She tried to contact the manager whom had left the registers. She got no response. So she proceeded to tell me I had to go back to the salon desk and tell them to apply the coupon. I said I didn't understand and she said I'll walk with you. We started walking towards the salon desk when the manager intercepted us and told her to just apply the coupon at the register no need to walk back. We went back to the register and she proceeded to try and do this. She asked me about the tip. I told her the amounts. She continued, I assume, to try to apply the coupon. I waited quietly for a few minutes then turned to my mother and asked her if my sister's friend had arrived to the house to pick her up. My mom said yes (My mother doesn't speak English so I spoke to her in Spanish). I turned to Raiza and communicated with her that we couldn't wait any longer that we had to go. I ask her to call her manager so she could do the coupon so we could pay. Raiza told me that I had to go back to the salon desk and get them to put the coupon on the ticket. I told her since I had to come back to the register to pay anyways that she should go do it. She got mad. I told her we really couldn't wait (I also didn't want to argue with her). She proceeded to tell me that I had to wait cause that's what I needed to do. She said it which such bad attitude I couldn't believe it. Then she said in Spanish entendiste "understood". I never spoke Spanish to her. Also her facial expression and the tone of voice she used. I was just in shock of the level of disrespect toward a customer. I told my mother to stay and wait that I would take my sister to get ready cause her friend was waiting at her house. I have never been so disrespected in my life. I could not believe how Raiza had talked to me. The best thing I could do was walk away. I left and contacted customer service to complain. The gentleman that answered the phone could not believe it either. I was close to tears. Needless to say my sister's prom night was ruined. My mother had to walk home from the store so she could see her daughter ready with make up, hair and dress. We didn't have time to take pictures with her either. The other day my mother and I went to Ulta. Over the last year she has bravely undergone a series of surgeries on her nose following a traumatic and severe dog bite. She has finally reached the point of forgoing her bandages; however has felt insecure regarding the significant bruising and discoloration as her nose heals. At the recommendation of her physican, I joined her at Ulta to find cosmetics to help her feel more confident in her appearance. And that's when we met Reza. Reza was so sweet in taking time to answer questions and to help test out products to find the best match. She came across as highly knowledgeable and treated my very nervous mother with such kindness. In what has been a very difficult time for my mother, I want to thank Reza for being such light in the process. I'm a little surprised by all the super negative reviews on here, because I thought this Ulta was just fine! Maybe they learned from their past behavior or something like that, but I actually commented to my friend while I was here today that this is one of the nicer Ultas I've been to. Granted, this is a review for the store-only, not for the salon services. Unlike what some of the folks on here are saying, this Ulta was SUPER clean, organized, and well-stocked. Aside from one or two missing testers, everything seemed very well-kept, and I easily found all the things that I was looking for. I enjoy Ulta because they carry a lot of drug store brands in addition to higher-end stuff, although I do wish there were more mirrors around the store as it's a little more difficult to try products here than at, say, Sephora. Anyway, based on my own experiences, I'd recommend this Ulta location over the one at Fair Lakes. Now, to go put on my new $90 worth of makeup products, ahahaha! read more

Probably the worst Ulta branch I've ever been to... The place was a mess. Bits of broken make-up on the floor, boxes of unsorted merchandise, none of the makeup was sorted by color. It honestly looked as if Black Friday was that day. If it actually was Black Friday OR the place was filled with customers I'd be more understanding. There were only a few other customers in the store when I was there and the only two employees didn't take a step out from behind the registers. Usually Ulta employees bother me because they keep asking if I need help...but not a single employee asked me if I needed help when I was pacing up and down the same aisles. I even had to open up the bottom drawers where they store extra merchandise to find the color I needed for my mom's Lorac eyeliner. Two other obscure colors were in stock (not sorted of course) and the black eyeliner was no where to be seen. When I opened the bottom storage drawer (that is usually accessed by employees) I found the last Lorac black eyeliner. Stock: It's as if management hadn't ordered more merchandise since Christmas because so many things were out of stock... a lot of empty shelves. Benefit: If you're a Benefit user don't even bother coming to this location. They had a tiny section attached to the end of an aisle and that's it. read more

I agree with Rob O that the salon is a great service. I got my eyebrows waxed here for the first (and last) time. Last because that crap hurts. But the lady who did it was wonderful and very calming. She put up with all my squealing! Also, I just bought some 4.99 shampoo that's sulfate and paraben free and it's AMAZING. I absolutely love it. Ulta has a lot of coupons and if you use your free ulta card you build up points which gets you money off. I had enough for 4 dollars off so I paid a dollar for my shampoo. Nothin better. The Pros: Ulta provides stylist-quality products to non-stylists. The Cons: Since they seemingly have a monopoly on this market, they can get away with hiring unfriendly customer service providers with no apparent knowledge of what they sell. I went to Ulta to get my hands on some Wella and Sebastian products that my fabulous stylist (Joy - see previous review for Zoe Salon & Spa) recommended since there are essentially no other beauty supply stores nearby that carry these products with a salon guarantee. I've never been so underwhelmed in my life. I asked three different people working there various questions about the products I was looking for, only to get a blank stare followed by "That's not my department" from one, a rapid "I've-only-worked here-3-days-I-don't-know-let-me-get-my-manager" from another, and a mumbled "I think we're out of stock?" from another. And don't get me started on the woman at the cash register, who never once smiled or made eye contact and glared at my toddler as though she was somehow offending her just by being there. Needless to say, I walked out unimpressed and dissatisfied with my overall experience. However, I know I will have to go back since they are the only ones in my area that carry these products (other than salons, which usually have a markup). The only reason they are getting two stars is because they do offer these products at a slightly lower rate. read more

Where do I begin...for starters this particular ulta always seems to never be fully stocked. When my friend inquired about a contour pallet she was interested in, a worker informed her that she would have to return on Monday, which is when they receive their new shipment. That's understandable (most popular items sell out quickly) What I cannot understand is how RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL the lady at the cash register was towards a PAYING customers! 1) While my friend was paying the lady told us they were closing in 3 minutes. Okay...? We were paying so why are you telling us this? 2) My friend's son dropped an EOS lip balm (on accident/he is 5 yrs old) which highly annoyed the lady! She demanded from him & I quote "You better pick that up, NOW!" I was absolutely shocked and didn't even know what to say! WTF was the look on my face towards her?! I'm writing this review for those of you females who like to do fancy things to your hair. My wife -- who is very picky and had very naturally curly hair -- really likes the service she received in the salon. She has gone to all the top salons like Red Door and likes this one for the price and service. She received some hair straightening service that came out to well below what other salons charge and she was happy with the results. As with all service establishments, it really comes down to the employee who provides the service. Even the best salon can provide a crappy experience. But Ulta met my picky wife's expectations at the right price -- I believe there was a coupon involved as well. The price is generally right at this chain. My wife and kids use this store and Sephora. Between the two, you will get most of what you need. read more

I went here because I had a gift card and wanted a gel manicure before I went out of the country. The manicure took longer than usual and the manicurist had trouble getting the polish on (she claims something was wrong with it) at any rate, she finally got it on (it wasn't the color I originally wanted) and two days later....here I am in Paris and everything has peeled away. I came in to Ulta today desperate to find products for my dry, natural hair. I was assisted by two young ladies from the salon. Both were black, one had longer hair and the other had a short cut which was colored green. I am writing this review because I really appreciate the awesome customer service that was given to me by both of these young women. The stylist with the short hair gave me her name and I forget (I have short term memory) I think it starts with a N. She was really great assisting me with finding products that suit my hair. She took the time to speak with me, answer and asked questions about my haircare needs and gave me recommendations on how to keep my hair happy. Mind you I was not getting a service at the salon. I was just searching the aisle for products. These two are awesome and really understand what customer service is about. I will be reaching out in the near future for a salon service. read more

I am a huge fan of Ulta because they carry a wide variety of drug store brands, specialty brands, and some of the more obscure brands (NYX, Palladio) that are not anywhere else. When I first walked into the store, I noticed that all of the cosmetics minus the ulta brand were way in the back. The cosmetics section seemed a little too smushed together and it is not organized as well as other Ulta's (maybe because of the size). There were several misplaced sign markers so you really had to check to see if you were looking at the actual brand. They do carry a lot of the items and I was surprised to see the newer products in addition to some of my old faves. There is a men's fragrance and care section and there is a section for ULTA products which I have yet to try. The counter is in front of the store as opposed to being in the middle of the store like at other locations. Ulta is always running promotions and sales. I will most likely come here again if I need something specific. I don't think it is a good location to just putz around in. read more

I had a great experience at this location's salon. Sofia did a really nice job with my partial highlights. She spent time understanding my needs, putting in an appropriate amount of foils, letting them sit to my desired color, doing the shampoo/conditioner, and doing a nice job blow drying my hair. I spend way too much money here. Ulta has a nice selection of higher-end lotions, potions, and cosmetics as well as drug store standbys. Sure, many beauty fans prefer Sephora, but convenience of this strip mall location sways my vote to the Ulta side of the argument. For heavy hitters, like myself, their rewards program is, well, rewarding. Salon Review: One Star I made the mistake of trying the salon in September of 2011. It has taken over a year, a drastic cut, and many deep conditioning treatments, for my hair to recover. The stylist (who was the salon manager) left my highlights in waaaay too long. She was very nice and we engaged in a good conversation, but it was at the expense of my hair. The cut was almost as bad as the color. You get what you pay for. And, in the case of my $120 ulta experience, that translates to frizzy, straw-like hair and a choppy, uneven cut. read more

I made an appointment for 12:45 on a Sunday. When I arrived I was told my appoint was at 1:00, even though the confirmation email in received stated 12:45. I asked for accent highlights ($80 for 6 or so foils) to help blend my previous highlights while I grow out my natural color. I was left disappointed because there are clear lines from the foils, not blended at all. I've requested a refund as I'll have to spend more money to have it fixed. read more

Okay - maybe things will be better when the shopping center is finished with the remodeling, but right now I was afraid to purchase anything. I went in for few specific items and left with nothing because 1) The signage in the store was a complete mess so I wandered around for way too long trying to find what I was looking for. 2) When I found some of the things I was looking for they were sold out or the few that were left were opened. (YUCK) Never mind the fact that it is impossible to get into the shopping center and parking was a life threating activity. read more
