I love ulta but this location is probably the worst within 25 miles of where I live. Disappointing because it's part of what is otherwise a pretty good mall. First of all, the makeup and skin care shelves look like they have been raided in an apocalypse. Products everywhere, sample products not in order, the entire section of Drunk Elephants products missing with a sign that says "if interested ask a beauty advisor" -- more like if interested go check out Sephora across the hall. I was browsing and noticed the whole selection of L'Oréal lipsticks organized incorrectly. It bothered me because I was looking for a specific shade and I couldn't find it. In the process of trying to organize I came across a lipstick that had been opened with the cap on incorrectly that was facing backwards, so I picked it up and tried to put on the cap correctly so it wouldn't be dried out and out of no where this woman working there barks "YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO OPEN THE PRODUCTS" into my ear from behind. I handed it to her and told her it was obviously already open and I was trying to help. She snatched it from me and continued following me through the store, giving me the side eye. It immediately put me off and I put all of my products back and just bought them online. They also never have more than one person working at the counter apparently, so their lines get ridiculously long. Disappointing, gross, an embarrassment to Ulta as a brand. read more

Discrimination warning: I went to the south shore mall to pick up a Michael Kors watch for Valentine's Day. I saw Ulta beauty while walking through the mall & decided to stop in. Overall, I can say the experience was awkward & I was pretty disappointed. I had a manager who was hovering over me HARD the entire time I was trying to browse. At first, I figured it was a coincident, but you would never miss her black and white referee striped shirt. My first actual encounter with her; she asked me if I needed help while I was looking at skin care products- the ordinary. I let her assist me even though I already had a handful of products. I even bought the over priced product she suggested (I asked for a oil or balm for pre washing - she suggested a $40 pre cleanser from dermalogica. My first thought was: Why did she take me from an affordable brand to an overpriced one ? I get they are told to push the brand for sales, but it was definitely a sleezy sales move considering I don't work at Ulta but could have named 4 brands off the top of my head that are more affordable and ideal for what I was looking for (I mean, I was shopping the ordinary when she asked if I could be helped). I have a feeling she has no actual knowledge in skincare. After brushing off the encounter, I continued on shopping. It wasn't long after that I found myself in perfumes sampling & again, the same manager was just staring. I'm not sure why this manager was acting so strange, but regardless i wasn't feeling her vibe & decided to pick up the products I had & left. I went to the Ulta in Lake Grove (my home store.) I've never been hovered over while shopping before. It was super uncomfortable & unwelcoming. I don't see how I was acting "suspicious" when there were 20-30 other customers doing the same thing. Trust me when I say no one is "too poor" to shop at Ulta (they have drug store products in this store) nor is anything in the store worth stealing. I can personally say I don't need to steal $10 serums when I have a $60 perfume in my basket & a louis on my arm. The discrimination was unrequited, unreasonable, & overall the experience was completely unprofessional. I will not be returning to this location. read more

I visited the location at the Westfield South Shore Mall Bayshore. I was immediately greeted by a sales associate at the entrance who had her co-worker assist me with finding AG products along with Too Faced product and a recommendation for eye primer. I was literally in & out in 15 minutes. Ultra Beauty is a large store which can be overwhelming. My experience was a friendly & knowledgeable staff & more importantly, not time consuming. I also had a $10 coupon that I used. Very happy with my purchase. read more

This Ulta location is horrible. I went here with my friend to peruse the store, and possibly make some purchases. There is a security guard in the store, and and the security, and instead of keeping a watchful eye on the store full of customers, she decided it was more important to follow us around the entire time. She was inches away from us, following us from one side of the store to the other. She finally confronted us and said "why do you keep walking away for me, I just wanted to say that I liked your top", But after she said that she continued to follow us throughout the store. She made us feel very uncomfortable and nervous and she was basically walking on our heels. She was so unprofessional that we went up to the register and told the cashier about the situation and asked to speak to a manager, to which we were rudely told to "hold on". After five minutes of waiting for the cashier to call the manager ( which she never even did) we walked out and called the store. I asked to speak to the manager and was put on hold for seven minutes. I then hung up and called back and asked for the manager again. When I finally got her on the phone she was the most disrespectful brat that I have ever spoken to. She told me to stop talking to her because she didn't like how I was speaking to her. Who says that to a customer? I experienced some of the worst customer service at this location. The manager was obnoxiously rude, and spoke to me like I was seven years old. I don't know who she thought she was, but in customer service, the CUSTOMER is always right...she was a snotty brat who took her title of manager of ulta in the bay shore mall WAYYYY too seriously. I have since contacted corporate headquarters regarding this issue and the horrible service that I experienced from this location. I will definitely not return to this store ever again. I will continue to do a majority of my cosmetic shopping at Sephora and the Ulta in Huntington, where I have had no issues, I suggest you do the same ! read more

I usually shop here consistently and spend a large amount of money. Unfortunately, my last experience the other day was horrible. I walked in with a reusable shopping bag since Suffolk county charges for bags now. I had an item in the bag that I wanted to exchange due to it making my scalp dry (Deva Curl Gel). As I was shopping around I noticed security following me and talking over a device. I kept looking for a better hair product but unfortunately no one tried to help me. I work in retail and if I thought someone was stealing I would CUSTOMER SERVICE THEM. I just couldn't find what I was looking for. They then sent an undercover shopper to follow me as well. I'm disgusted with this Ulta and their lack of customer service. I will not be shopping here again. The manager or what seemed to be a manager giving the orders was a short blonde woman and I believe she was wearing glasses. Maybe she should get demoted to a sales associate because she forgot how to CUSTOMER SERVICE. I do not steal nor would I ever. I have enough money to purchase my items. Thank you for nothing! I ordered a cosmetic online from Ulta and was informed yesterday by email that there was a recall on the product. They said that when the store opened I could get a refund. Well I don't want to go to the store, I want a refund on the credit card I paid with. What's the problem. The makeup apparently broke me out in hives all along my jawline and up my cheekbone to under my eyes. I was wondering what that was and now I know. I immediately stopped using it but I paid $28 for this and I want a refund. It's impossible to get these people on the phone and they said they don't do refunds at the curbside. About a month ago I was here with my sister and we ran into one of the employees who was here the day I had this incident with the security guard (see prior review). She walked past us, stopped and turned around and told me that they had gotten a new security guard. She knows who I am as I am always in there so I guess she told me to make me feel more comfortable shopping in there. When she turned and walked away my sister told me she thought that was pretty obnoxious to just randomly walk up and tell me that but I didn't mind to be honest. Moving right along...... Fast forward to last night when I decided to stop in for a quick browse...and GUESS who was in there?? That wonderful security guard Darnell!! First Mistake: Choosing a hair salon by price. I went here to dye my hair for the first time so I chose this place because the price for the balayage wasn't too high compared to other salons in the area. My hair stylist was Maribel, she had a very distinctive difference in personality than the other stylists, who was chatting loudly with her client, while Maribel was silent the whole entire time. Setting up the appointment, she was very curt and I made her aware that I might be late to the appointment time and I will make sure to call her if that happens, which Maribel said is fine. I did call the day of to inform her again that I will be late and when I showed up she didn't say anything so I thought she would do my hair as expected. Well when she finished coloring my hair she promptly just dried my hair with the blow drier. The Unisex palace, located in the same mall, did a tremendously better job blow drying my hair than Maribel. This in turn caused my hair to look puffy and dry, similar to a hay stack. It was honestly embarrassing walking out of the hair salon with the condition it was in. Maribel told me due to me being late she cannot properly straighten and finish my hair. If I was let aware of that in the beginning I would've cancelled the services and not pay full price for the half-done job. The coloring job is decent but I expected a darker color and was surprised that my hair was half blonde now. I was given no information to take care of it and when I was leaving the mall I saw her walking to the food court and exit the mall, so I wonder why she didn't have enough time to properly dry my hair. I managed to fix my hair with extensive shampooing, conditioning and argan oil. I will not come back to this Salon and will make sure to get a hair stylist that iv'e seen their work before, because I don't know how a hair stylist can make a customer walk out of their salon paying full price for the condition it was left in. read more

Great all things beauty store with decent prices .I get most of my makeup and and beauty care things here.I also just started getting my hair done at their salon. All the stylist seem to know what they are doing.Marible is my official go to girl .Very sweet,professional,and knowledgable with her craft! I had a really bad experience at a salon once so I have this fear of letting anyone cut my hair, so today I finally let her trim my hair and I love it. She has me feeling like a million bucks everytime I get my hair done. The salon is just all together great no complaints. On the other-hand: I've noticed the sales floor is shortly staffed, in this location- I don't know I don't it should be that way, so I reccomend shopping here if you know exactly what you want.I've had a couple of times that there were actually properly staffed but the girls on the sales floor seemed to be intimidated by a pretty face and just give me a very uninviting look and didn't greet me at all, so I have gave up on a great customer service experience shopping here. Hands down, the worst ulta I ever been to! I went in there to make a purchase and was waiting in line to be check out. One of the employees started to yell, told me to back up and said i was suffocating the customer that was at the register... 15 feet away... I was only able to move 5 inches back without backing into the woman behind me and causing her to back into the person behind her. After I moved back, the same employee "whispered (loudly)" to another employee that I was trying to steal other customer cc info. The girl working there approached us and asked for help and I told her what I was doing and she went against everything that I recommended for my mom. My friend told me about Ulta having a salon (I had no idea) She recommended I go to a specific stylist to get my highlights done. I was skeptical at first because it's inside a mall, but I have to say she did a good job. My appt. time was a little delayed because she was attending other clients but the results (of my hair) came out good. She seems to be knowledgable and very detailed with her work. The only drawback is that their prices are pretty high, I know this is true for other salons but I still wish they were a little more inexpensive. I'd probably visit more often if they were. Either way, I recommend giving them a try especially since finding a good stylist is tricky and Maribel does a good job. read more

Went to the Ulta in the Bay Shore mall. Usually go to the one in Massapequa Park (they're great) but they didn't have any appointments at the time I needed (prom season) so I tried Bay Shore. My advise, DO NOT GO TO DIANE!!! Went to her to get my daughters hair done for prom. First thing she did was insult my daughters hair and tell her that the highlights she had done were too brassy. BTW they were done at Ulta and looked great so I have no idea what she was talking about other than she wanted me to pay her to "fix" them! I think she was trying to scam me. Then while doing my daughters hair all she did was complain that she needed to leave and get out of there the entire time. That she was in a hurry. If she was in such a hurry why did she book an appointment at that time. Did she think hat an updo for a prom would take 10 minutes!!! Ugh...she was the worst. Finally after like her messing up my daughters hair like three or four times she did something we liked. At one point she tried to convince my daughter to do a braid. Not a nice pretty french braid a small braid on the side of her head. Again...she was the worst. Not very skilled and very rude. DO NOT GO TO DIANE!!! On the other hand the lady who did my daughters make up was a doll and did a beautiful job.My daughters make up looked amazing. If I could give less stars I would. I've been an Ulta customer for years, I get all of my make up there. I've gotten my hair done many times and even a facial a couple years ago. I decided last weekend to get a facial and thought I would go back to Ulta. Michelle was the girl who did my facial, I was very relaxed the whole time, my face even felt fresh after. I started noticing my nose where she did the extractions become swollen the next day and even worse 2 days after. I just left it alone, I didn't want to irritate it more. Tuesday night, I notice my chin becoming swollen and by Wednesday morning I had a huge cyst on my chin. I called my dermatologist, they were nice enough to get me right in. Turns out I haven an infection on my nose and I had to get an antibiotic cream for it. I called Ulta right after I left the dermatologist, a girl named Alonna (not sure if that's right) answered and took all my information down because the manager Theresa was not available at the time. While she took down my information, she proceeded to tell me that they don't know how anyone's skin will react to a facial, which I totally understand BUT this wasn't a reaction, it's an INFECTION. I waited half the day today to hear back from Theresa the manager and I didn't receive a call. I finally gave her a call around 1 pm, again she was "busy with a client". The girl who answered the phone asked to take down my info, I let her know Theresa should already have it. Finally, Theresa came to the phone the conversation was short, Theresa was extremely rude, she tried to also say that they don't know how everyone's skin is going to react. She also told me that their tools are sterile and I couldn't have gotten an infection from the facial. The conversation ended with her saying "so what, you want your money back?". Like no Theresa I want my skin to not have an infection on it. I cannot get over the customer service here, these girls work in the beauty industry and you would think they would understand the importance of how a woman feels about her appearance. I will be canceling my Ulta credit card and will never spend another dime in there. I contacted corporate because all I am going to do is get frustrated talking to these girls. read more

The store is decent, very wide brand of make up and they sell Marc Jacob perfume. My problem was the customer service, which I take very personally. The store was a wreck, and the section I wanted to shop in was all out of place! Their price tags didn't match up with the product. The line was long but moved at a decent pace. The worst part was the girl who checked me out. She was extremely rude and unapproachable. You could tell she did not want to be there, she barely mumbled "Hello" then demanded my phone number, she roughly grabbed the product out of my hand and gave me an attitude when I didn't want to sign up for a rewards card. If I have a moment of insanity and decide to shop there again, I will be avoiding her. She was a colossal bitch, and inappropriately dressed for a store that tries to look classy. I went to this location to exchange a item I received as a gift, I was going to get the same product but in a different scent/formula. The girl at the counter told me that I could not return an item without a receipt or a phone number for proof of purchase. I again explained to her that this was a gift that I do not have a receipt and that it would not be on my account..she then asked for the woman's phone number who bought it for me which I then explained that I did not have because it was a coworker. She told me then there is nothing I can do and that I'm stuck with the product. Ulta's website states "A return without a receipt and without the use of an Ultamate rewards card ; refund will be on a merchandise credit at the current lowest selling price"....even though I could not exchange my item, I still made a purchase. I waited back on line two more times because the girl didn't tell me the correct dollar amount I needed to use my Ulta coupon. Finally when I got home one of the items I purchased had a broken seal...so now I have to return that. I'm definitely going to a different location. read more

The best customer service I have ever experienced was in this ulta. About a week or 2 ago and my sister and I were making a return which required the assistant manager to come over and help the associate. My sister said she didn't feel to good and wanted to walk around while I waited to the transaction to be completed. All of a sudden my sister fainted twice, back to back in the middle of the store. It was extremely scary but the manager and a few associates ran over to her aid and got her a bottle of water and insisted she stayed sitting for a minute until she felt better. On our way out, the manager could tell I was upset so she rubbed my back telling me everything would be ok. My sister and I have never felt more comforted in such a crazy situation. They took my name and number down to write some sort of accident report at a later time. The next day I received a call but it was only to make sure my sister was ok. I cannot express how genuine and concerned the employees at this store were. Their gratitude was obvious and we have never been so thankful to be in such a great place with great people for this to have happened. read more
