i had an appointment today with Lexi to get my haircut and colored. when i made the appointment 2…read moreweeks ago i had to request an appointment in which i had to give my name, email and phone number in which were all up to date. i got a call the same day with an appointment time, in which i was very happy. but when i got to the appointment today as soon as i walked in the girl sitting at the desk looked at me sideways so from the second i walked in i felt a way, she then asked how she could help me and i said i had an appointment with lexi, she then tells me she tried to call me in which i never got a call at all, to tell me lexi was sick. i took off a whole day of work to get my hair done, so at this point im livid, i asked what number they called and she said my old phone number. when i scheduled the appointment request they had the correct number and called me to make the appointment! so why was my number not updated? it was giving rude and lazy, and they really didnt care i felt a bad vibe the second i walked in and honestly i wasted my whole day and lost money, it was just unprofessional that they had the correct number to make the appointment but not the right number to let me know she had to reschedule? no. i will never go here again, on top of they never let me know their address changed when i made the appointment so i went to their old location at first, they clearly don't have it together and are very rude. 0/10! never again!

The interior of the salon is really polished and stylish but understated, and it's really quiet and peaceful. I have a sew-in weave/extensions, so I'm doubly wary of how my hair is handled and I'm used to spending 3+ hours getting it done (which is why Sunday appointments are such a convenience for me). I made an appointment for 3PM using Vagaro just before I went to bed, which was also extremely convenient. If you log into Vagaro, search for "Mane Haven" in Islip and you can make an appointment whenever. (I think I made mine at like 2:30 AM.) The shampoo part was excellent (using my favorite kind of tingly shampoo) and Kristin thoroughly cleaned my scalp under the braids. Stand dryers are not my favorite thing, and she hand dried my hair. In about an hour from start to finish! Kristin is also great to talk to and the salon ambiance is so pleasant. Mane Haven also does extensions, which is not uncommon at dry bars nowadays. But almost every dry bar doing extensions sticks to tape or keratin and does not have the necessary experience to do great extensions -- I had a weave going in, but I would feel comfortable getting extension services here, too. Prices are more than reasonable, and my hair came out so perfect! At other boutique dry bars, I've left with damp hair or neglected edges, but every aspect was 10/10. From style to service and cost was great, and I definitely think I will be back often. If you're going for a first-time visit and don't know Islip well, it's just west of Town Hall and between the candy place and the Acai bowl place. Also, there's a back entrance and marked spots that are in a larger lot -- make sure you park in the right ones.

I then got the extensions installed by Tia and went back every 6-8 weeks for maintenance for about 10 months. Everytime my hair fell when Tia did the maintenance and the last few times I noticed she pushed the extensiones up instead of remove them and re- install them. Upon traveling this summer a hair dresser told me they were not installed well and that caused my hair to fall out significantly more than normal. I am now on a journey to try and regrow lost hair using minoxidil. Though my experience with D was good. Tia got lazy and careless and contributed to hair loss I now have to recover. I won't be going back.

Rae (the owner) is both personable and professional. She truly knows her craft.
