I contracted with Kepu in May 2025 to pour and finish a stained, stamped, and sealed concrete driveway, along with the installation of two aluminum gates and fencing. On the last day of the pour, he pressured me to pay the entire final balance upfront--including the gates and fencing--so he could "pay his workers." Against my better judgment, I trusted him. That was a huge mistake. Here's what happened: Substandard Workmanship: Most driveways are poured at 4" thick. Mine was poured at only 2". Reinforcing wire pushed up through the concrete in several places (I have photos). Kepu made several failed attempts to repair it. When I demanded the bad sections be repoured, he began ghosting me and dodging calls. Flaky, Unreliable, and Dishonest: Weeks went by with endless excuses for not showing up. His own vendors even contacted me directly, complaining he wasn't returning equipment he had rented for my job. Only after I threatened to file a RICO complaint with the State of Hawaii did he return--half-heartedly--to reseal the concrete. Poor Final Results: The seal job looks terrible. The color is uneven, large white sandy patches are visible from too much non-slip additive, and there are permanent bucket marks left behind where he rested containers on the wet surface. Unfinished Work & Missing Money: Three months later, Kepu has not installed the gates and fencing. He does not answer phone calls, texts, or emails. After I demanded proof of my gate/fence order, he admitted he canceled it. I told him to refund the money. But never followed through. At this point, he has my money and I have nothing to show for it. I have filed a formal RICO complaint with the State of Hawaii, and I am now preparing to seek legal help to recover damages and the funds I paid him in good faith. If you value your time, money, and sanity, avoid Nohealani Masonry at all costs. I wish I had seen a review like this before I made the mistake of hiring them.

He patiently answered all my questions, then met with us to go over options. We appreciated his experience and familiarity with old-style single family houses like ours (60 years old). He listened to our needs, wants and available budget. We decided on a "middle" option with full solid acrylic pan (since we did not want another broken prefab floor) and cultured marble walls. He referred us to Naka's Marble whose staff was very friendly and helpful in choosing marble type/color. They worked directly with Mason on our custom floor and walls. Mason kept in constant contact with us regarding his work schedule (and of his subs). He was accommodating, flexible and also good to thinking out of the box. I requested a custom shower niche, so he guided me in designing one which was also fabricated by Naka's Marble. Mason was very clear and upfront about his fees, and warned us way in advance that there would be some extra fees along the way due to things that come up with old houses (like rotted wood, plumbing fixes, etc). MK's prices were very competitive compared to other companies (we had also spoken to two other companies prior) but decided on MK after meeting with Mason. Every part of our renovation process went well. Mason has a wealth of knowledge and seems to have many strong contacts in the industry. He worked super hard to give us our dream bathroom; was patient with us as we were not always decisive at times; and constantly kept professional decorum with friendly local vibes. We are very satisfied with Mason and MK Builders and plan to hire them again for other upcoming home renovations.

Rather than spending over $300k on foundation lifting I opted to just have the low spots filled in with a combination of concrete and self leveling cement. Mason came and assessed the job, added his recommendation and approach and completed the job flawlessly. He is very professional and reliable, shows up when he says and returns calls/messages promptly, which is rare these days. His work proposal is detailed and itemizes all the materials, outlines tasks included as well as what's not included so there's no misunderstandings. Really appreciate the whole experience and the finished product.

He also ensures to secure the area before working (ie. cones, secures vehicle tire, etc.). He is very clean and helped to put things back in place after construction. The job we requested was to secure our huge swinging gate (he replaced hinges and created a platform for the gate to rest on when open), replace 4 rusted poles and raise the foot so water couldn't get to it, and add two more poles to help support the roof. I hired a contractor in April 2025 to put a concrete stamp on the walkway leading to my house. The…read morejob also included staining and sealing it. The stamp looks awesome, but unfortunately the person the contractor sub-contracted the staining and sealing portion of the project to became unavailable, so the contractor and I mutually agreed I would get someone else to finish the job. I re-advertised what I needed on Yelp, and that is when I unfortunately hired Nohealani Masonry Contractor in early May. I provided the owner with a picture of what we were looking for, and he worked diligently to get as close to the picture as possible, and although his finished product looked nothing like the picture, we said we liked his work, and we gave him the approval to seal it, and that is when the nightmare began. Just prior to sealing, he started showing up around 6:00 pm (if he showed up at all), so by the time he started applying the sealant on May 16, 2025 it was getting dark, so he applied the sealant in about 5 - 10 minutes (if that) and told me to give it a couple of days to dry. I attempted to pay him the balance with a cashier's check on that day, but he did not want to take it, and he asked for cash instead, so on May 17, 2025 I paid him the balance (in cash at his request). About two days later, I looked at the project (pictures attached) and there were all kinds of white patches and white specs on two thirds of the project, and it looks awful. When I paid him the balance, the contractor promised me he would promptly fix any issues regarding the project as soon as he was notified. After I noticed all the specs and splotches, I began calling and texting the contractor on May 19, 2025, and I am still waiting for him to honor his word more than two months later. Each time he said he was coming to fix the issues to complete the project, he did not show up and did not even bother to contact me to let me know he was not going to show up, and when I was able to get in touch with him, he gave me excuse after excuse as to why he did not show up. The last time I talked to him was July 5, 2025 (because he promised to come, and once again, he did not). I have had it with this "contractor", and I would never hire him again for anything. If you want someone to do a rush job, and then abandon you after he is paid (even when additional work needs to be done to complete the project), someone who never keeps their word, and someone you have to continually chase to finish the job he they were paid to do, this contractor may be right for you. But if you want a contractor that is reliable and treats all their jobs like a priority (big or small), I highly recommend you look elsewhere and do not hire this "contractor".

He and his family and workers did very good work and went even beyond what was expected in some cases. Our jobs were slowed by bad weather at times, and some mechanical difficulties that were not related to the workers or the company, but they handled the difficulties to get the work done. Both Mosese and his brother, William, were honest and straight-forward in dealing with us. They worked on fences & gates. They did a great job tearing up an old cracked concrete driveway and replacing it with new concrete, and did not damage the metal electric gate track. They extended a concrete porch after tearing down an old wall. After each job they cleaned up the area, unlike previous contractors we had used. Things get done on island time on Oahu, but we are happy with the work they have done and would definitely deal with this company again!

After a two-week search, I selected Menora Masonry from four bids for my December 2024 retaining wall and drainage project. Suli, the owner, ran the mini excavator and ensured efficient teamwork during excavator operations Sione was pure strength. He did a lot of the excavating and put up new posts and gates. A lot was accomplished because he had a good work ethic and was trustworthy in every way. Younger Sione, Suli's nephew, executed precise bricklaying while others managed cement mixing. He rebuilt the failing wall sections and also a leaning column with great precision. Task on December 11, 2024: To replace the weak sections of my retaining wall that held the terraced front area of my property. Then run 80 feet of perforated PVC pipe underground along it to relieve the pressure of excess water into an adjoining swale easement. In addition, water in my back garden area, weathered by mauka wind and rain, would pool and seep beneath the slab of my house. Menora jackhammered part of the old walkway and created slope for the water to empty into the same swale easement and away from the foundation. They also built a raised cement barrier along the house. Communication: An area of improvement could have been reviewing our understanding of the planned work in intervals. While communication could improve with mid-project checkpoints (especially during garden water mitigation), post-work cleanup with Suli's son, Suli Jr., revealed excellent attention to detail. The January 2025 storm validated their work - both wall stability and drainage performed flawlessly under heavy wind and rain. I had complete peace of mind for my neighbors below that the wall would hold and not cause damage; and that the garden-side rain would not pool towards the house. I truly appreciate the hard work and effort on the part of Menora Masonry and highly recommend them!
