I hired a contractor in April 2025 to put a concrete stamp on the walkway leading to my house. The job also included staining and sealing it. The stamp looks awesome, but unfortunately the person the contractor sub-contracted the staining and sealing portion of the project to became unavailable, so the contractor and I mutually agreed I would get someone else to finish the job. I re-advertised what I needed on Yelp, and that is when I unfortunately hired Nohealani Masonry Contractor in early May. I provided the owner with a picture of what we were looking for, and he worked diligently to get as close to the picture as possible, and although his finished product looked nothing like the picture, we said we liked his work, and we gave him the approval to seal it, and that is when the nightmare began. Just prior to sealing, he started showing up around 6:00 pm (if he showed up at all), so by the time he started applying the sealant on May 16, 2025 it was getting dark, so he applied the sealant in about 5 - 10 minutes (if that) and told me to give it a couple of days to dry. I attempted to pay him the balance with a cashier's check on that day, but he did not want to take it, and he asked for cash instead, so on May 17, 2025 I paid him the balance (in cash at his request). About two days later, I looked at the project (pictures attached) and there were all kinds of white patches and white specs on two thirds of the project, and it looks awful. When I paid him the balance, the contractor promised me he would promptly fix any issues regarding the project as soon as he was notified. After I noticed all the specs and splotches, I began calling and texting the contractor on May 19, 2025, and I am still waiting for him to honor his word more than two months later. Each time he said he was coming to fix the issues to complete the project, he did not show up and did not even bother to contact me to let me know he was not going to show up, and when I was able to get in touch with him, he gave me excuse after excuse as to why he did not show up. The last time I talked to him was July 5, 2025 (because he promised to come, and once again, he did not). I have had it with this "contractor", and I would never hire him again for anything. If you want someone to do a rush job, and then abandon you after he is paid (even when additional work needs to be done to complete the project), someone who never keeps their word, and someone you have to continually chase to finish the job he they were paid to do, this contractor may be right for you. But if you want a contractor that is reliable and treats all their jobs like a priority (big or small), I highly recommend you look elsewhere and do not hire this "contractor". read more

NEVER going with this company again! They were quick to take the job and our money and haven't delivered. It's been over 6 weeks! I decided to go with this company to regrout my rock wall and install a fence so my 14 year old dogs could live the remainder of their life running freely in my yard. My boy dog has cancer and may never experience that at the rate this job is going. Kepu (owner) took my first two checks on May 18 (and subsequent checks since). It's now June 30 and the owner has been promising the job will "only take one more day" for two weeks now. At the beginning of the job, we agreed to the scope of work and cost, then the owner said he couldn't do it as agreed upon and needed to build a small rock wall, which cost more. During the work, I had to point out to the workers and owner where a post was crooked, gauges in the fence, grout not filled in, misaligned fencing...to name a few problems. The owner told me "they weren't done and still fixing". That was 3 weeks ago! It appears that the company does not have the proper tooling and equipment. The workers were using a torpedo level on a 4 foot fence! They were also mixing concrete in a wheelbarrow and hand cutting/shaving the fence. Today, they used an silicone substance to fill in the holes in the hard plastic fence. I've had to take many hours off of work to meet with Kepu to point out issues and sometimes he doesn't show up. Apparently he's had medical issues, but can't send any of his other workers. Maybe they thought they could pull a fast one since I'm a female. I would NEVER use them again. read more

Kepu and his crew were really great with their work on our driveway. They were punctual, organized, courteous, and efficient. And Kepu was good about staying in touch by email and text messaging. They finished the work in the scheduled time --one week from start to finish. The work included demolishing an old 800 sf grass-block driveway, carting away the debris, forming, installation of 1/2" rebars, pouring concrete, finishing, and cleaning up. The price was reasonable for the quality of work. We now have a solid driveway that should last a long time. Good job! As people in Japan say, "Otsukaresama" (Thanks for your hard work). read more

I do not relish leaving this review and I am glad others had good experiences with Nohealani. My hope is always to have 5 star experiences and to be able to recommend companies to my friends and family. Unfortunately, I will never use or recommend this company. They did a horrible job, were dishonest and Malakai was argumentative with me and my 78 year old father. Not sure if it was a bad day, but not professional at all. Out of the blue Malakai showed up at my elderly parents house with a bunch of people looking for work. My father let him look at the masonry issues we had and got a quote. My dad decided to go ahead and hire them to fix cracks in the grout in our flagstone driveway and stucco walls, and to build a small wall that was cracked and displaced by roots. Although it started great, we had to push him to show up, watch what his workers were doing and deal with Malakai trying to change our agreement. Moreover, he took almost three weeks to do a two day job, left rubbish, debris, and his tools and materials in my parents entryway the whole time. It all started off great. Malakai showed up with a crew and got to work quickly. Unfortunately, the "fixes" he promised turned out worse than the issues. On the stucco wall cracks, he left gouges where the cracks were and refused to stucco them. When I pointed out that the gouges were deeper and looked worse than the cracks, Malakai claimed it was impossible to make them flush (Really!). Then he refused to stucco them even though he agreed to it, saying "that wasn't" part of our deal. Just the idea that we would hire someone to "fix" the cracks in a stucco wall without stuccoing is absurd. Moreover, although he had agreed to do "all" of the cracks in the wall (about 8), he ended up doing 4 of them and then refusing to do the rest. On the driveway, he used, what looks like, pure cement rather than what we had agreed on (coral sand, concrete glue, and mortar), gouged the flagstone and left mounds of cement in the grout lines (a couple even had finger lines in it where the guy just pushed the cement in with his hands). When I pointed this out, he acknowledged that his guys did a bad job (and he had fired them), yet he claimed that over time the ugly grouting would look good. Of course that isn't true, and we had to push him to come back and, at least, clean up the overflowing concrete. On the small wall, he built most of the wall and then abutted it to the other half of the cracked CMU block, creating a giant hump and would likely have failed in a short time (he didn't tie in the blocks with rebar). Basically he did one side of the cracked wall but not the other. When I pointed out that he was hired to build the entire wall, not just part, he tried to say that we had agreed to him attaching his new wall to the cracked old wall, and then denied that he and I had ever talked about it. Really!! When we got him to come back and fix the wall, his guys tried to put in the blocks without tying (connecting) them at all. When I pointed this out the guys said they were going to put rebar in horizontally to tie the blocks together. But they didn't even have a drill or anything to allow them to tie the blocks together. So how exactly where they going to do that? Not wanting yet another issue, I just went and got my drill and bits for them to use. On the driveway cracks, Malakai did try to clean off the overflowing concrete in the grout lines. Unfortunately, no amount of cleaning will change the material he used and he complained when my dad asked him to power wash off the residue that left over like he agreed to do in the beginning. What really upsets me is the thought that if I had not advocated for my elderly parents to get what they bargained for it is likely that Malakai would have just taken their money and walked. My parents paid him almost $5k, for a two block high 20 foot wall, gouges in their wall, and an unsightly driveway which will require us to hire someone to fix Malakai's "fixes." Again, I hate leaving this review, but don't want people being taken advantage of. Perhaps this was a one time thing, but for me hiring this company was a one time thing. Aloha. read more

I met with Kepu and I showed him my retaining wall that needed repair and he basically said that it would cost about $6000 to fix and I thought that was a reasonable price. He basically came back with 2 other people and then he left. After 2 days with 2 people, they basically grouted around the rocks and I could feel the hollowness around 20% of the rocks. So basically I thought that they would come with 5-6 people and fix the rock wall correctly and Kepu basically grouted around the rocks and he basically said that he needed to make his money and that is what he expected to do. Basically $3000 per day for 2 people?!?! What a rip off!! Do not trust Nohealani and Kepu. read more

I will disclaim that I give Nohealani 5 stars due to a very reasonable quote, better than others, though my expectations would've been a lot higher if I were to spend 1.5-2x the cost others were quoting to pour stamped concrete pavers to extend my driveway PLUS pouring slabs in the front yard. See pictures of progress. His team is respectful and punctual, and very hard working. As mentioned with my disclaimer, they lacked the heavy tools and material that could've made the job much much more efficient and less labor intensive. Nevertheless they completed the job (with a lot of extra manual labor, and I lent them some heavy tools) on time and it looks great! The fine details have some discrepancies but again, it was worth well worth the cost. The only dissatisfaction is the colored concrete didn't meet my expectation, but that is not the fault of his team, but rather the concrete company that delivered the concrete which does have a clause that the color is not guaranteed. I saved some $$ by installing the grass myself using the good grass the crew safely removed. I would use Kepu again for certain jobs and recommend him. Mahalo Kepu!! read more

The project involved building a rock retaining wall, laying down a concrete driveway and chain link fencing around three sides of the property. I also paid Nohealani Masonry Contractor for the building permit. As it turned out they proceeded with the work before the building permit was approved. This resulted in the work being halted by the City. Fortunately for me, because I paid the contractor to get the building permit, they were responsible for any fines that were incurred. What was supposed to have been a twenty day work project per the signed contract agreement, turned out to be a three month project. The rock wall and concrete portion of the project went okay, however, the chain link fence portion was agonizing. The workers were not fully supervised and it was obvious that they didn't know how to build a chain link fence. I don't know how to build a fence but I do know what's right and what's wrong. The entire back side of the chain link fence had to be redone. They didn't dig the posts deep enough and the posts were very loose. I found that I had to constantly monitor their work and have them redo portions of the project. Also, communication with Kepu, the contractor, was very poor. He was quick to communicate when he wanted payment but other times I had to call and harp on him to get the work moving again and eventually completed. He always had an excuse for why things were not moving along. In general the work was subpar. The workers used personal property to complete the work. I had to loan or give them supplies like hose nozzles, paint brushes, etc. I also had to clean up the loose cut wire remnants after they left each time to prevent my grandchildren from getting hurt. I found out later that Nohealani Masonry Contractor is not accredited by The Better Business Bureau. In retrospect, I should have done a better job at researching so I could've avoided all the problems I encountered with this contractor. read more

We extended our existing stamped concrete patio and changed the color - changed the color not only on the new pour but on the existing slab. Kepu set up an estimate appointment the day after we talked and was on time. The estimate was very fair. During the work, his crew was very respectful toward our household. The weather was a challenge but they adjusted the schedule accordingly. The team completed the planned work as well as some "add ons/adjustments" we made during the project. Let's just say that I was disappointed. Company was able to quickly schedule my spall repair but I can't tell you the amount of time that was wasted by workers sitting around not doing anything. Twice I was told that someone had to leave so they could get more materials. On completion of the job that afternoon, I was asked to write the check payment to "Cash." We had a large retaining rock wall that was failing in the corner due to errosion. Kepu came out on a Wed surveyed the site gave us a quote and started on Thursday finishing in 3 days!!! They fixed the failing portion and rebuilt the wall then reinforced the whole wall to make sure my Mom could sleep at night and she didn't have to worry about her home sliding off the mountain in Hawaii Kai. They did a good job sealing the cracks in my 11-foot rock wall. Kepu was very knowledgeable and accommodating. However, some of the concrete. did splatter onto my moss rocks. They should have brushed it off when it was still wet. It is very difficult chipping off the cement from all of the rocks since it is solid. read more

We went with Nohealani Masonry to rebuild a retaining wall that had collapsed in our yard. The completed work looks substandard. The weep holes are not evenly spaced apart and look randomly placed. There are what appears to be way too many open spaces in between the rocks - as in they barely used any concrete to secure the rock pieces together. The final layer of concrete on top of the wall is already cracking, just a few short months from completion. On top of that, they damaged one of our pipes during construction, and after they were done, left a digger in our yard for days. The follow up was horrendous. It took many emails for them to finally take it off our property. read more

Had some concrete poured by them to extend my driveway and some sidewalk around the house. The work itself went ok but there were many problems after. Workers hanging around hours after completion, using my driveway and neighbor's parking as their own personal woodshop, and not cleaning up well. These guys even removed part of the concrete form to use as part of their wood project. Very inconsiderate and disrespectful. Finish of concrete marred by workers hanging around after the job. Badly damaged water meter box. Tool and garden hose missing after job completed. Kepu made sure the water meter box was repaired, my garden hose was returned, and my pickaxe replaced. I contacted Kepu about pouring concrete in my unfinished garage and cutting part of my driveway to add drainage to the existing drainage. He arrived early for the quote and had the best price among three other contractors. He arrived on time and completed the job in three days. The sloping of the driveway and the house foundation was wrong and Kepu was able to compensate the sloping to prevent rain from going into the garage and instead it would go toward the drain located just outside the garage opening. His crew was very helpful and did excellent work. I would recommend them to anyone and would use them again for other masonry work. read more

They demolished an old cement brick wall that was about to collapse and replaced steps that were tilted from underlying soil shifting. The new moss-rock wall looks great, has much better water drainage, and the moss-rock faced steps are much nicer than the the previous concrete steps were. I highly recommend them. One of the best decisions I've made in hiring a contractor because it saved me a lot of money and time. Called the company one day....and Kepu was at the jobsite the next day to evaluate damage and recommend what course of work I can choose and a price and timeline he can provide. Just no nonsense answers (without the "let me talk with the engineer" or "let me talk to my foreman") and I like the only pay when the job is done policy. I'll add that Kepu is very friendly and easy to communicate with. Workforce was at my site the day he promised. Timeline of 5 days was done in 3 days. Excellent workmanship. I added on a concrete stairway repair....two workers stayed till 9:00pm to do finish work on the surface a remove the forms before the concrete could harden.
