Time: How long does it take to find and interview a dependable masonry contractor? After a two-week search, I selected Menora Masonry from four bids for my December 2024 retaining wall and drainage project. Suli, the owner, ran the mini excavator and ensured efficient teamwork during excavator operations Sione was pure strength. He did a lot of the excavating and put up new posts and gates. A lot was accomplished because he had a good work ethic and was trustworthy in every way. Younger Sione, Suli's nephew, executed precise bricklaying while others managed cement mixing. He rebuilt the failing wall sections and also a leaning column with great precision. Task on December 11, 2024: To replace the weak sections of my retaining wall that held the terraced front area of my property. Then run 80 feet of perforated PVC pipe underground along it to relieve the pressure of excess water into an adjoining swale easement. In addition, water in my back garden area, weathered by mauka wind and rain, would pool and seep beneath the slab of my house. Menora jackhammered part of the old walkway and created slope for the water to empty into the same swale easement and away from the foundation. They also built a raised cement barrier along the house. Communication: An area of improvement could have been reviewing our understanding of the planned work in intervals. While communication could improve with mid-project checkpoints (especially during garden water mitigation), post-work cleanup with Suli's son, Suli Jr., revealed excellent attention to detail. The January 2025 storm validated their work - both wall stability and drainage performed flawlessly under heavy wind and rain. I had complete peace of mind for my neighbors below that the wall would hold and not cause damage; and that the garden-side rain would not pool towards the house. I contacted Menora Masonry to extend my driveway and to make walkways alongside the house. My point of contact was Suli Sr., which was the number listed on Yelp. Suli Sr. arranged an in-person survey at my house. I discussed my ideas but I really didn't get any feedback on how the construction plan was going to be. He gave me a verbal quote. His quote was almost half of 3 other quotes I got from different companies. I asked for a proposal and formal written quote multiple times. I never received it. I even contacted Suli Jr. who told me his father will email me that quote. I got ghosted. I guess they underbid the project and therefore did not want to follow through. Menora Masonry did a fantastic job restoring our 90+ year old wall after it was hit by a bus and damaged by roots/erosion. Suli and his team recreated the original wall and restored the historic parts that remained, including lifting up the wall's pillar which made it a much more difficult job. Menora Masonry clearly knows how to build things right, whether its an old building technique or more modern ones, they were able to problem solve and get the job done on time. Menora was very fair in their estimate and stuck to the original agreement even when the scope of work had to change slightly. Suli was always very responsive and was able to answer any questions. I can't be more impressed with Menora Masonry... Our old lava rock retaining wall was failing and every contractor I talked to said the price to repair or rebuild was ridiculously high and not within any sort of budget we had.  I decided to check out Yelp and Sulimoa from Menora Masonry responded so quickly, it surprised me.  He came over that day to check out the job and he gave me an estimate right then and there.  The price was so reasonable to us we shook hands and they started the job just a few days later - we were so stoked!  We did our research with our general contractor and they were indeed licensed, bonded and insured so we knew everything would be all good ;).   Well, as the job progressed and we saw how quickly they worked we kept expanding the job from just a rebuild to excavate into the hill 3', then 6', then we added some epic looking stairs, added irrigation on the Ewa side of the house, they repaired the wall out front, built an awesome lava rock mailbox, and even pulled out some giant fruit and palm trees that were in the way.  They never flinched at any request given and took care of the jobs in a timely manner all with an amazing price!   On top of all of that, the entire crew are just awesome, hard working guys and I give mad respect for their work ethic and craft!  Menora Masonry exceeded our expectations over and over again and I would highly recommend them to everyone! read more

I requested a wooden fence to be built on a 3ft brick wall on one side of the property, to extend a brick wall on the other and to rebuild/secure a retaining wall on the lower half of the property. I specifically asked to rebuild the retaining wall in a way that could be "usable" for my tenants. Suli was a pleasure to work with, very generous and expedient with the work. We had a difficult time finding someone to put in new gates for my aunt's home because contractors usually prefer larger projects. We couldn't get back in touch with any of the other contractors we contacted, but the price Menora Masonry gave us was half of what the others quoted anyway! (the support walls were cracked, so new supports needed to be installed so most fence companies needed to find someone to build the supports. The transactions were professional and the contacts were friendly and helpful. Rachel set up an appointment to get the area measured and Moses came to measure the area and sent us a quote saying that it would take about 4 days to complete. After setting up the supports in about 3 hours, they returned a couple of days later and finished installing both gates. The gates they installed were even nicer than the original ones. I can't say enough good things about this company. We needed a fence for our front yard. When I called for an estimate, Rachel came the next day and took measurements and spent time with us discussing what we wanted. Then we changed our mind completely on the design, and Rachel had no problem with that. She was patient with all my questions and even came over a second time to make sure we were on the same page. The day they started there were three men plus the owner, and they worked fast! It only took two days to put up the cement towers. They even repaired some of the existing cement blocks with no extra charge. When the rest of the fencing which was vinyl arrived, they installed it in one day. The only thing left was the gate, and two guys came the next day and installed it. I'm so happy with their workmanship, professionalism and attention to detail. The price was fair and lower than the other estimates. More expensive is not always better! I also appreciated that they had a written contract and a warranty which many companies do not do. A backstory before I give my review of Menora Masonry and Mr. Suli Taufalele, A couple of weeks ago (Late January), I contracted with a Kula Contractor, Mr. Tevita Taliauli (aka: David Taliauli; Sikula David Taliauli) to repair my backyard fence. It was a hybrid fence (masonry base and between the columns redwood). I made a partial payment of $4K to Mr. Taliauli for the purchase of materials towards the fence repair. This individual with two people working for him - an elderly man, Solomone Toloke and the other a caucasion gentleman started taking down the fence. He and his crew worked a couple of hours before they called it a day. That was Tuesday, 25 January. Mr. Taliauli has since failed to show to finish the fencing project and it has been a nightmare trying to get the $4K he scammed out of me. I was mad and cautious in getting another contractor to finish what Taliauli left. It took me a week of researching BBB, DCCA and YELP to find Menora Masonry and what I learn was, Mr. Suli Taufalele who owned this company was honest and informative. He helped calmed my fears from dealing with someone like Tevita Tailiauli; to trusting him, Suli who was willing to work with me. The YELP reviews of Menora Masonry were amazing and had a lot of 5-star reviews and Suli is in good standing with DCCA, which sealed the deal for me and my wife. He gave me an estimate of what he could do to repair and finish my fencing project; and he provided me a proposal that I could show to my wife, which helped us in hiring Menora Masonry. Suli estimated four days to complete the fencing project but he did it in two. I can attest to the quality of work and materials Suli used for my fencing project. I originally called to get an estimate to repair two spots in our garage. I needed to replace the spalling sections for a two post car lift. I called the number after reading several positive reviews for Menora Masonry. Suli answered and the next day sent his father to look at the project. As I talked with this father I asked if he could give me an estimate to replace an aged wooden fence. He said sure! and took measurements. While he was measuring the fence I asked if he would be able to add a slab in an area between our garage and wall. Again he replied no problem and wrote all the measurements on his hand. That night I got an email from Suli with what I thought was a great price, consulted Suli a little over email and text and within a couple days Suli called and said he had an opening and started on the 100 foot fence. While looking at the project I added on another small section of concrete slab and Suli was very fair on the price and had no problem filling my request. I screwed up on the height of the fence and asked Suli if he could cut down a section. He again replied with "no problem, we kinda anticipated that" I told him it was my fault so I'll pay the difference for more labor and material. Suli said just pay for material... In the end I have the garage floor repaired and a whole new usable 100 feet of property on one side of the house that can now be used and not bother our neighbor thanks to the new privacy fence. Concrete slab section makes a much more useable area behind the garage. Suli is very easy to work with and all this was done in a total of 3 days. His crew is all family and friendly.
