Enjoyed every bite. The negatives are there is no parking so you either pay for parking or get lucky scoring a coveted street one. Also the neighborhood is a typical city one, not the high rent district. Also the restrooms are located u These overruled the food though. Sunday Brunch is all the dumplings you want for $25.

In the order instructions, I asked for the Chinese mustard and duck sauce for the eggrolls, and that was not included in the order. The wonton soup was greasy. The hot spicy pork ribs were tasty and tender. I would only wonder why it has to have so much of the seasoning spices on them to bury it. We were disappointed with the brisket dish. It was plentiful but the seasonings were not our favorite. Also got the fried rice this time where we usually get the white rice. Not a fan of their fried rice. The biggest difficulty I had with the order was that the delivery service which used DoorDash took over an hour to get to us after the order was picked up for delivery. As I'm watching the delivery online in the app, which is a nice service in DoorDash, it did not look like he was coming to us first, and probably dropped two or three orders before us. And then it didn't look like he knew where he was going. Later in the app, I saw that there was a comment that my address was a difficult one to find which I don't understand because it's an apartment in a very central place in town.

FOOD -- I ordered the Guandong Fried Rice ($10.50) which comes with peas, carrots, and egg. I added shrimp ($5.50) as my protein. A glass of water was also brought out for me. My friend ordered the basil chicken ($18.50) with a Maine Root Beer drink ($4.50). She loved her order. I enjoyed the Guandong Fried Rice with added shrimp. It wasn't overly rich in flavour. We had a very underwhelming, near disappointing, visit to Bluefish Grill several years ago and was…read morerecommended to give it a try again recently. Definitely wanted to go in with a clean slate, knowing how many things for a restaurant can change in three or four years. I have to downgrade to one star though based on this week's dinner. I really don't see where there's a quality of food, flavor, friendly service or atmosphere that doesn't register as a fail. We were dining with a few other families (the place holds about 8 or so tables max) and another guy I could tell totally loves this place - it's an understatement to say that I don't get it. I really don't. I honestly feel like Gordon Ramsey's "Kitchen Nightmares" needs to go in and explain to them everything they doing wrong - because where do you start... Everything we ordered was overcooked, or cooked incorrectly and was not delicious, much less impressive. Let's be specific - the fried calamari was heavily battered and over cooked, the octopus balls were overcooked on the outside and offered an overly hot unidentifiable soup on the inside, and the fish & chips were basically two overcooked large triangles of thin fish and thick breading so the experience was a crunchy, dry thin processed piece of fried something that, whether visibly or by flavor, had no real indication there was fish present inside the deep fried breaded triangle. Service is beyond blah, it's indifferent. I dont mind the small dive atmosphere whatsoever, but at that point there's actually nothing I can point out of pleasure, value or reward for going here. What a place. Not a single smile, no warm greeting or any sentiment that anyone's glad you're there. No time for you. Just tell me what you want. Despite being a tiny place it does not guarantee your table might be walked by a dozen times while youre obviously ready and waiting to order. It always strikes me when a place is slow to serve you or give you proper attention but quick to bring you your check. I'm glad some people like it enough to keep it in business, but I don't get it. All I see is room for improvement , by which I mean needs for improvement - everywhere. I wish I took pictures of our meal but I didn't want to denigrate or erode the time we were having with a friend of ours. Taking pics of this food would have been too obvious and I really wanted to focus on enjoying our company regardless of the fact that I'm definitely going out again tomorrow night to reset my palate and have a total do-over. *Update, we did head over to The Flying Pig the next night where we can always count on having a high-quality friendly experience - and great good. The next day was Saturday and we went for dinner at Penny Lane Pub, again where we could count on a delicious meal and a welcoming, friendly environment. At that point I had mostly forgotten the regret I had held over from the second and final time we'll ever give Bluefish Grill a shot. The owner's attitude, of saying "then why do you come back", rather than being curious about what they could do better tells it all. An owner who stubbornly asserts everything's perfect, it's the customer who's the problem I've seen before - and in the long term it doesn't bode well for the business.

I would avoid this place like the plague. My friends and I dined here for the first time from a friend's recommendation and it was extremely underwhelming. The food was mid-tier at best. We ordered a variety of soup dumplings and appetizers like the crab rangoon and spicy wontons. Of all our options, the wontons were the best. I'd give them a 6/10. The crab rangoon had only a whisper of crab and the dark red sauce was revolting. Typically, rangoon comes with a sweet chili thai sauce that balances the cream cheese perfectly, however, this appetizer came with a deep red almost fruity tasting sauce. It tasted very off when paired with the rangoon. Soy sauce was more complimentary than this. Moving onto the dumplings. Traditionally, soup dumplings come with chopsticks and a soup spoon to enjoy the soup. We were given neither. The only utensils provided were with the appetizers and entrees we ordered, just forks. Imagine eating a soup dumpling with a fork. It is uncalled for. Our server was out of sight so we could not call anyone over to ask for proper utensils. We were able to flag down the manager after some time and I voiced our concerns about the experience and food not being what we expected and the lack of utensils for the dumplings. He quickly apologized and gave us some spiel about how Ugly Dumpling prides themselves on excellent service, which we saw none of. He brought out regular utensils, forks and spoons, which helped but once again not what you use to eat soup dumplings. As if there were not enough bad things to say, my pork and truffle soup dumplings had a hair on the bun. They were promptly taken, replaced, and comped from our bill. After trying the dumplings itself, it was subpar. The wrapper is much too thick and the filling was too little. I would not order them again. We ordered drinks as they had a promotion going on, the thai tea and the taro milk tea. Both were unpleasant. The taro milk tea was orange (??) and tasted nothing like taro, while the thai tea tasted like cereal milk. Would pass on these. The service was good at the beginning with our server being attentive and checking in. However, after our food arrived the server was nowhere to be found. After 20 minutes, we had started to think our server had went home due to shift change, but we instead found him on the other side of the restaurant talking with other servers. I truly believe he forgot about us, which made our experience here worse. Lastly, the to go boxes we were given would not snap shut. The round lids were a little too small for the box itself making it useless. We asked for new ones and put our food elsewhere instead. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. If you are looking for food similar to Din Tai Fung, try Inoodle instead. This is severely lacking the especially when it comes to the food and service, which is what makes a restaurant worth visiting. read more

This was a very cool new dumpling spot we decided to try out for lunch on a rainy Wednesday. We really enjoyed the vibe and cool decor of this renovated space that used to be a taphouse and sports bar. Now it's been transformed into a cool urban chic dumpling spot where you can watch the dumplings being hand rolled and filled! That's the way you know nothing here is frozen or prepared in advance. Our server AJ was great and told us that everything on the menu is made to order. Given the rainy cold Ish day we decided to try a big bowl of braised beef noodle soup along with some steamed pork dumplings, and pan fried pork buns. We were eagerly eyeing an overflowing bowl of salt and pepper, fried popcorn chicken being delivered to an adjacent table.... Looking forward to trying that on our next visit along with their soup dumplings which also looked yummy! the only note I would make is that they seem to be working out a few tiny kinks on the service as a newer restaurant. We asked a few different waitstaff for an extra bowl to share the soup and some additional dumpling sauce. Both seem to take a little too long to get delivered putting us in that kinda awkward situation of not knowing whether to start eating...also they were OUT of dumpling sauce which seemed really weird for a dumpling restaurant! They did give us a couple of packets of sauce, which I'm guessing they use for takeout. Overall we really enjoyed the food and look forward to trying some of the other dishes on our next visit! read more

I came back after about a year, and the decline was impossible to miss. The first red flag was walking in during Saturday lunch and seeing the place nearly empty. Unfortunately, the food explained why. The braised pork ribs used to be the reason I came here--crispy, deeply caramelized, and packed with that authentic balance of soy sauce, rock sugar, and black vinegar. This time, they tasted like generic American Chinese takeout: one-dimensional, overly sweet, and stripped of all the depth that made them memorable. They have completely lost their soul. The fried chicken over rice was another disappointment. It was greasy, bland, and had an unpleasant gamey/off taste. There was no wok hei whatsoever, the chicken itself wasn't properly seasoned, and even the salt wasn't evenly mixed into the rice. Every bite felt flat and carelessly prepared. The handmade dumplings were the lone bright spot. The filling was still flavorful and you could tell they were made in-house, but even they seemed past their prime--slightly dry, as if they'd been sitting around too long. This place has gone from being worth the trip to a shadow of its former self. It's a textbook case of resting on past reputation while letting quality slip. In trying to appeal to everyone, they've thrown the baby out with the bathwater. The dishes have lost the very character that made them worth seeking out. read more

Disappointed on Our Second Visit We recently returned to Ugly Dumplings for a second visit, and sadly, it didn't live up to our first experience. On our initial visit--Sunday, April 20th--our cousin brought us, and everything was wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was warm and attentive, and our server showed exceptional hospitality. Even the manager came by to check on us and was genuinely friendly, adding a personal touch that stood out. This time, however, felt like we were dining at a completely different restaurant. The food was overwhelmingly salty and lacked the balanced flavors we previously enjoyed. Our server was just okay--polite, but not particularly engaged--and the manager seemed disinterested and unapproachable. What concerned us even more was the lack of care around food allergies, which didn't seem to be taken seriously. This was especially disappointing given the restaurant wasn't even busy. We left genuinely disappointed, especially after such a positive first experience. Consistency is so important in the hospitality industry, and unfortunately, Ugly Dumplings fell short this time around. read more

We stumbled upon Ugly Dumplings by accident and were pleasantly surprised. The interior has a very cute design, and the menu is simple and easy to navigate. We ordered the popcorn chicken, spicy cucumber, and scallion pancake as appetizers. The popcorn chicken was perfectly crunchy, and the scallion pancake was nice and crispy on the edges. All the soup dumplings we tried were amazing, thin-skinned and filled with lots of flavorful broth. My favorite was definitely the Szechuan pork, it had that signature mala spice and a real kick to it. The pork and crab dumpling wasn't my favorite; the crab flavor was a bit too strong for my taste. The classic pork dumplings were also great, juicy and clean-tasting with no odd aftertaste. Our least favorite dish was the noodles. They seemed slightly overcooked and ended up a bit soggy. The spicy sauce smelled great but didn't have a very memorable flavor. We visited near closing time, but the service was still excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Overall, it was a great experience, and my family and I will definitely be coming back! read more

I had a fantastic experience at Ugly Dumpling! We did have a 30-minute wait, but it flew by quickly, and the great customer service made the experience even better. Now, onto the food everything we ordered was delicious. The crab Rangoons were so light and generously filled, easily some of the best I've had. The scallion pancakes were crispy and flavorful, and the soup dumpling sampler was a fun way to try different flavors. The Szechuan pork soup dumplings packed the perfect amount of heat, and the crystal shrimp dumplings were delicate and delicious. For noodles, we tried the braised beef noodle soup and noodles with spicy sauce, both of which were full of bold flavors and comforting textures. Despite how much we ordered, the food didn't take long to come out, and everything arrived fresh and hot. For drinks, we got the iced sweet crème (matcha flavor) and brown sugar boba. A fun twist on the boba is that you can make it boozy! We didn't try it this time, but I'll definitely be back to give it a go. The service was attentive and the experience was well worth it. I'll definitely be returning! read more
