Dim sum
Heather T.

We stopped by Full Kee today for some dim sum after completing the Monunent 10k, and it did not disappoint! The cart service brought around so many yummy choices, so we got to try a little of everything! Super yummy and fun place to go out to with my friends!

While in town for my daughter's tournament, we decided to try this location since it was conveniently close to our hotel and we're fans of the Full Kee back home. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the name. The interior felt quite dated and run-down, and the food followed suit. We ordered the lo mein, mixed vegetables, and Singapore noodles, but all three dishes were dry, bland, and lacked any real flavor. It was a pretty disappointing experience.

Full Kee is such a Richmond staple. We went for dim sum on Saturday and it was incredible. The food is freshly handmade in house and comes out on carts so you can choose what dishes you'd like. The staff is incredible and it's family owned and operated. This place is an absolute gem. My favorites were the pork, the pineapple buns, and all of the dumplings. Will be back!

The full "dim sum on carts" experience is available on the weekends, and it is an absolute Richmond must if you like anything close to an authentic Chinese food experience. They do not bring the carts out on weekdays, at least to my knowledge, so plan accordingly. Really tasty spread, and of a wide variety. We've come back a few times and we will absolutely continue to do so. As others have noted, service can be a bit slow and the restaurant is not new and shiny. That is okay. It has charm (I don't mean that in a shady way) and it's clean. This is typical for restaurants approaching authentic on the Chinese American scale. If you need something a little more Americanized, they do have a menu with standard stir fry and rice and other sundry options you'd find at a takeout spot. Fair warning, the place fills up on the weekends. Probably because there are not many other places where you can get dim sum like this in the area. I honestly can't wait to go back again.

Good place for dim sum, roast duck, stir fried snow pea tips and fried noodles. They offer the dim sum cart selection on the weekends. Service can be a bit slow during lunch rush. For Richmond we found this restaurant good for Cantonese food. A little bit pricey for Richmond. Restroom is very dirty!

Was in Asia for 3 weeks and when I got home we immediately had to come to Full Kee. We eat here at least once a week. Service is always impeccable. Food is always so fresh and isn't just frozen. You can taste it in everything. Frank is the face of the house and always takes care of us! We love this place and everything that they do. We appreciate them. Always consistent.

I've heard Full Kee is the best dim sum place in Richmond when I first moved here 2.5 years ago. And today I finally tried it. It's all true! Best, authentic Cantonese dim sum in Richmond. Weekends are the only time they do push carts but that's how I like it because you get to see what they look like before committing. Each basket is typically 3-4 pieces and the prices range from $5-6. The bigger dishes are even more. Because it's easy to go overboard when you want to try a piece of everything, it's best to have a bigger group. We had 6 and we averaged $35 per person (including tips). We think it's a great outing especially after running the 10k. This is a no fuzz place and it gets very busy on weekends. It's not realistic to expect high level service as there are simply not that many hands. I just walk to someone and ask for help politely. Make it convenient for them to help you, you in turn help yourself. My only complaint is everything was too salty. Hahah everything is always too salty for me.

Walking into the restaurant is a little bit like walking into the past, seeing what a Chinese restaurant used to be like, but seldom is nowadays. Large tanks holding fresh crabs and lobsters, heated displays of hanging roast duck and pork set the tone. The place looks like it has been here for a while, and perhaps could use a deep cleaning or carpet replacement, but in a way that just feels more authentic. A nice touch that has been missing in most places recently, they provide complimentary tea! Food was great; we had beef and Chinese broccoli chow foon - very tasty with nice sauce. Not at all spicy, but flavorful (normally a fairly bland dish, but tables all provided with Sambal Olek and soy sauce). Other dish was roast pork & noodle soup. Good, but was expecting thicker Chinese noodles and received thin rice noodles. Good though. Only negative was we wanted roast duck and they were out. Also heard another table asking for shrimp dumplings and they were out of those also.

Lunch bill

This was one of my favorite restaurants when I was in RVA in the mid-90s. Ate lunch there day before yesterday (6/26/2025) and it was a nightmare. There were only three tables occupied but it took five minutes to seat me (table for one). It took another ten minutes to have my order taken. Finally, when finished, it took ten minutes to get my check. This was not an isolated experience as I encountered the same wait times two weeks prior. How was the food? It doesn't make any difference -- the inattention to their customers was unacceptable.

Peking duck
Lena M.

TLDR: Best Peking duck in Richmond, call ahead and order even if you want to dine-in. Third time's the charm. I've been trying to get their Peking duck for a while now. We tried once on Xmas (which was my fault) and it was too packed to even eat there. Another time was lunch time on a weekend, it was packed and we only successfully ordered dim sum. We thought we put in an order for peking duck, but we never saw our waiter again and were told that we hadn't ordered it an hour later. This recent visit we went on a week night and it was pretty empty. We learned that it takes a while to make Peking duck so you need to either call ahead or be willing to wait a little. It was so worth the wait. I missed crispy and juicy Peking duck with amazing plum sauce and pancakes. I found it at Full Kee Restaurant. This is an authentic spot with great dim sum, but even better duck. I once came across a TikTok that said the most authentic and delicious Asian spots have 3.5 stars on Yelp, this is true in this case. The service can be slow, but the food is totally worth it. There is a lot of seating inside and it's great for big groups. ICYMI, I highly recommend coming here and ordering the Peking duck.

Yes- at Full Kee (Broad St near the Home Depot). Call and order then pick up. I always order the shrimp dumplings and ask for hot sauce on the side.

I wanted some sambuca, but they had none, which is disappointing. I did see a banana bread pudding dessert, so I opted for that. The single bartender who was working was crazy busy that it took him about 15 minutes to put in my order, then by the time I got it, it was cold, as it took another 15 minutes for him to finally run back to the kitchen to get it. They were quite busy that evening, but that's not my problem, nor his... There was a server handling the dining room area and I think that was all I saw. They really need better staffing and MUCH BETTER MANAGEMENT, as running out of a popular digestif in a popular hotel really isn't acceptable. The flavor of my banana bread pudding was nice, but the temperature messed it up. Overall, I'm glad I wasn't tied to "having to eat here" like other business travelers might be... There's very little in the close area and nothing in walking distance from here. But I'll not ear here again. I visit the Richmond area very often for business and though I liked the hotel stay, I didn't like this experience, so I'd probably choose to stay at the downtown Richmond Marriott or the Short Pump Hilton next time instead, just because both have a true "full service" offering, including a nice bar.

They offer a variety of sauces and flavors that really elevate the seafood and make the experience feel unique and interactive. It was such a fun meal to share, comparing each bite and talking through all the different flavors. The service was excellent. Our waitress was knowledgeable about everything we ordered and made great recommendations. The atmosphere is just as impressive. The decor is simple but thoughtfully elevated, and sitting at the bar area feels like you have stepped out of Richmond and into somewhere like New York City. I also love following Lillian on social media to keep up with their latest specials. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves seafood.

Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.
