We sat at the bar and the bartenders were so kind and attentive. They were extremely knowledgeable about every menu item and even made sure my food allergies were accommodated. Karaage was good, the sauce they used had a pickle-y flavor Pomegranate jalapeno was okay but the yuzu honey (when stirred) was good, would get again Deconstructed mochi was good. 4 - 4.5 stars! Most of the food we tried was delicious but it definitely costs a pretty penny for relatively small plates / portions. My fiance and I visited on a Friday night with no reservation, and they were able to seat us at the sushi bar which we ended up loving. We started with just ordering an assortment of nigiri, a roll, and a main protein dish, after which we decided we needed more food so we got some more nigiri plus another roll. Everything here generally comes in small portions so it's great to share amongst people, but the prices add up for sure! All of the nigiri we had was fantastic, and the fish tasted super fresh. The two rolls we tried were the soft shell crab roll and the spicy crunchy tuna roll. Between these two, the soft shell crab roll was a definite highlight -- the crab was delicious and the fish sauce flavor really elevated the whole dish and made it super unique! The spicy crunchy tuna roll was pretty one-dimensional in terms of flavor and nothing to write home about. In addition to all of the seafood, we also got the short rib which was perfectly cooked and so tender & juicy. After our meal, we wrapped up with the milk + cereal dessert because I'm a sucker for anything milk and cereal related. This was so tasty and unlike anything I've had in the past, plus I really loved the fried milk! I was so excited that Uchiko opened up closer to my house so I don't have to make the trek all the way to uptown anymore. I came with a friend on a Friday for dinner, and decided on the tasting menu, which is $120 for 2 people and comes with six courses. It also happened to be happy hour, so we were able to enjoy some of their cocktails at a discounted price, all of which were very delicious! The first course of the tasting menu was the sunomono, which was very refreshing and had a great flavor from the scallion vinaigrette. The second course was the hama chili, which was perfection! I could've probably had several more of these. Next, they brought out two tuna handrolls and two nigiri pieces, which I don't recall the names of now, but it was very tasty! The fifth course was the steak frites, cooked to perfection, and surprisingly a good amount of food. Finally, the last course (and the best course) was the fried milk! So good and always the best way to end a meal at an Uchi restaurant. In addition to the tasting course, we also ordered the wagyu hot rock, New Zealand king salmon and scallop nigiri, and crispy rice. Everything was phenomenal! Heard such great things about this place. We sat at the bar and the bar tenders were excellent. The drinks were fantastic. The only downside - and a big one for us - the food handling was unsanitary. All Prepared next to the bar and only one person was wearing one glove (not two). The other people were not wearing gloves at all. They were cutting meat, using what looked a dirty rag to wipe down surfaces and touching all of the food without gloves. Make a policy to wear gloves and we are back ! Came for date night and tried out their signature tasting menu! $120 for 2 people is phenomenal, what a deal! There was a good mix of land & sea and we were told the menu changes frequently. We had some nigiri, sashimi, steak, chicken skewers, handrolls, and dessert! Really, this is the best deal ever. Everything was fresh and delicious and filling. My husband who normally doesn't like tastings due to the normally smaller portions, was full at the end. We did order an extra side of karaage and 2 pieces of the wagyu nigiri which were both also so delicious. We went early since we don't like to eat too late so it was still happy hour when we arrived! The food, service, and ambiance stole the show! I came here for a girls night with my friend and ordered the tasting menu for 2 along with some extra happy hour bites. The $120 tasting menu started us off with the hama chilli. The server recommended us to take a bite with orange with every bite of fish and it truly made such a difference. Next was 2 tuna handrolls, and 2 sets of nigiri (unfortunately, I forgot what they were). The tasting also came with a cucumber salad and the steak frites. Additionally, we ordered the scallop nigiri, tuna and crispy rice, salmon belly, and of course the hot rock. We updated the dessert that comes with the tasting to the milk and cereal, which is a MUST. I can totally understand why this dessert is their signature. All the food was delicious and fresh. The service matched the upscale vibe. From the hostess, to our server, to the ones who ran the plates to our table, all the staff always had a smile on their face and offered great tasting advice. Heard a lot of great things about the uchibā/uchiko restaurants and was finally able to try it yesterday. For a birthday, we made a reservation for 10 at 4:30 and was pretty full. Our server, Nate, was excellent in running us down the omakase and the menu items for the night. We began with some happy hour items like their fresh tuna and salmon crispy rice which were amazing for $3 a piece, as well as the happy hour salmon sushi. I also ordered the blue crab temaki/handroll, and the nori was absolutely perfect. I then ordered many of the special sushi and all of it was amazing. I tried so many, but the tuna otoro was definitely a standout. For the birthday girl. Our server gave us 3 complimentary hot rocks, which was so generous, along with 2 free ube tarts. My only con about our experience is that we got seated at high tables, but with 10 people, can't complain. We went during happy hour (4-6PM daily) and ordered a number of items including the dumplings, takoyaki, pork ribs, beef skewers, take nabe (added short ribs), karaage, and nigiris. Stopped in and to my surprise they were doing happy hour all day. Was able to enjoy a few items across the menu. Really enjoyed the bincho, taken from a recommendation by the bar tender. The beef on the skewers weren't anything special, if anything they were a bit chewy...however the Asian pear and the dipping sauce were interesting enough to make up for it. Both handrolls were delicious especially with the dipping sauce. Overall the portion sizes are very small. The servers would take my finished plates immediately. I didn't appreciate that especially because I hadn't fully finished one of my dishes before it was whisked away. For what you get, the happy hour menu feels steep. I am glad we made an advanced online reservation for two for the 5pm happy hour because the happy hour tasting tor two for $120 is popular and they had people waiting to be seated or sitting at the bar instead. Valet parking entrance behind the restaurant was convenient to walk around the corner to the main front door. Our booth was cozy and servers were well-versed in the food. He patiently answered our questions and we ended up ordering what we liked instead of the tasting that night. We had to use the flashlight on our phones to read the menus because the restaurant keeps the lights dim for the ambiance. I loved their hibiscus tea and highly recommend it. The piping hot tea was delicious. They paced each dish well and we were not rushed. The dessert was worth the wait. The extra side dish of roasted Brussel sprouts that he gave us was something we would definitely order again. What I want to know is Uchiko a step up from Uchiba, if so that explains it all. I finally decided to visit and give the 9 course tasting a try. No better way to celebrate a friends b-day. With an early reservation, I was set to take advantage of the happy hour Omakase tasting. Walked in and immediately noted the layout, the restaurant was expansive and laid out nicely. Front of house was prompt in welcoming me and my guest . Walking to the sushi bar I scanned the space and loved the distinct areas and ability to see everyone. Perfect if you enjoy seeing people. We sat down and got to business and I decided I wanted the full feature Omakase over a Manhattan and a specialty dragon fly cocktail. We had some wonderful nigiri pieces with flounder, sea bass and crab. Simply delicious and absolutely fresh and meticulously paired with the perfect oil / juice features. The hot rock Wagyu with my persona light sear exploded in my mouth and then melted over my tongue . There was one dish that was the absolute star and involved pork and a puree'd vegetable along with some other Uchiko wonderfulness. It was like no pork I've had before. I just merely moved my mouth in a chewing motion not even using my teeth. The motion alone broke the pork up into individual little explosions of deliciousness. I have to go back for this dish alone. Be sure to let your chef know your pace, otherwise I feel the different dishes can kind of stack up. I felt a little rushed at first and had to lift my hand as if to say please be mindful and pace us a bit slower. We are here to celebrate and not shovel. That was my only quip! So I have been coming here for 2 items. I love their tofu sushi roll and their Japanese sweet potato dish. The service has the bar is generally good. The kitchen is hit or miss. Sometimes things come out in a decent time and other times it's very slow as if they forgot your order. However, the quality is consistent and I always think that I should have ordered more than one role. I will keep coming back and branch out but for now those two options make me smile. Truly excellent meal. Every time. Don't expect big pieces of tasteless metallic strip mall sushi. Granted, those can be ok. But Uchiko's sushi are a little smaller, but packed with exponentially better flavors. Nothing metallic. All fresh. Some fish I've never heard of, but perfectly paired with the perfect topping (lemon, yuzu, wasabi, tamari, strawberry, etc etc). Even the rice is flavored wonderfully. My family will never leave a single grain of rice uneaten, lol. The different cold tastings are all perfectly balanced (Hama chili and yokai berry our faves), and we love the non fish sushi as well (eggplant with a salty sweet miso glaze, brown butter mushroom, melt in your mouth gyotoro). The service is impeccable. They know their stuff. Everyone. Each dish comes expertly explained and they made it themselves. I have no idea how they can memorize so much. Unreal. Our server was so kind she gave us a free tasting of sushi she thought we would like. She was right! Dry aged kanpachi. Wow! Had omakase for 2 people. It was $310-ish per person. Not your traditional omakase with nigiri. There were many dishes and only 2 nigiris. I didn't mind it. It's nice to have variety of dishes. I liked everything that was served to us for the mushroom. They need to replace the mushroom with another dish or make this dish more flavorful. We ordered from happy hour dishes (HH is from 4-6PM everyday) and they were not worth it. The dumplings came in 2 pieces for like $12. My kids didn't even like it. But we went out of the way for a six course omakaze (signature tasting)! To make it short, everything was fantastic! We loved the first course: hama chili. The fresh yellowtail sitting on top of tangy orange slices in ponzu sauce. It was visually appealing and appetizing! The salmon handrolls (saki temaki) were stuffed with moist, tender salmon and soft sticky koshihikari rice. The madai and kanpachi nigri was awesome, especially the buttery kanpachi. It looks like red snapper, but it tastes way better! The gem lettuce salad was so beautifully plated beyond my description. Please look at the picture I took:) Then came the star of the show: steak frites. They were grilled medium rare, tender and juicy, accompanied with a handful of golden brown fries.
