We are completely in love with our new home! I am the person who drug their feet and almost didn't go with U Build It because I was afraid I couldn't handle the process. We took the leap and I couldn't be prouder of our finished product! Juan was absolutely amazing and helped every step of the way. we were told by this company we could do our home renovations and build a tiny home for my mom. the designer said no to renovation plans . 4 months later design was not to our budget or anything we asked for. we decided to not move forward with any of the building or renovation. This company lied to us and made a good sale to my Mom. she gave them a check and they refuse this elderly lady her money back. She was lied to and they never delivered. She never signed a contract. seeking legal advice is our only option. read more

My husband and I recently finished building our custom home about 3 months ago. Everyone at the UBuildIt office was nice and accessible. The only problem we had was with a sub-contractor not honoring his word or work, we had to hire someone else to finish it. It took us about 4 months from start to finish, but I guess being in the construction business helped! We would recommend UBuildIt to others who are looking to custom build their home! It has been 6 months since I built my home with Ubuildit. I want to say first off that the office staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. My issue was with my project manager Juan, who has been with the company for 15+ years. I had several issues with my project manager and reported it to Ubuildit but there was no response to my complaint or actions taken. This is the very truth of what happened. My project manager Juan started off good but 2 months into the build he asks me to write a personal check out to him for a Ubuildit scheduled meeting (which was paid fully in advanced). I was alarmed however I felt my hands were tied because I wanted the project to continue and not left with a half-built home as I was at his mercy. I wrote the $250 check to Ubuildit for the so-called extra appointment (not true). The next day he calls and asks me to make the check out to him ??? Of course, I didn't but that was just the start of the thieving that I encountered with him. I give people the opportunity to make it right so I washed it under the table as no money was lost, just trust in the Ubuildit company. The project moved forward and I met with Juan several more times before I decided I no longer wanted his help even though I already paid over 20k to Ubuildit for the help and this is the reason why. Again, Juan (the project manager) explained that I needed a prep clean done after framing (no such thing and not in the Ubuildit handbook. I was heading out of town and the project manager said he had a company that could clean for me for a good price. I said OK as I thought it was part of the Ubuildit process but it was wrong. I was welcomed home with a $475 bill for a half did sweep job that I could have done in 1-hour max. Come to find out it was project managers wife which he misrepresented the company as if he had no affiliation. Of course, after I found out it was his wife who swept my home, I wasn't surprised by the outrageous bill of $475 for some sweeping once I found out it was Juan's wife. Of course, he threatened a lawsuit if I didn't pay but I am not one to give into threats. That $475 price is for a final clean, not a sweeping after the walls went up, that was just another scam of his. I decided with my wife to pay $100 for the little effort that was done as we were at his mercy for his help. I ended up not meeting with Juan for the rest of my site visits even though I had already paid for them. I would stay completely clear of this company as when I reported it to Ubuildit I was never contacted by the owner to offer his apologies and make it right. I guess doing business with a long-standing company does not mean they are a good company. I am not going to bash the whole company as there are many good people that work there, however, how could I ever recommend a company that has an employee that tries to steal from you and he still works there. They do have some good employees in the office but those aren't the people you work with regularly. I gave them the opportunity to make it right but they chose to sweep it under the rug. In fact, my project manager is still there and probably pulling the same scams. Stay clear away. I built my home in vintage oaks and my address is 1120 Bottle Court. Our Dream home is a Reality and it's magazine worthy!!! Our experience with UBI was a very good one, and we are so glad we chose UBuild It to help build our dream home. Working with them allowed us room in our budget to do some upgrades a custom home builder would have charged us triple for. Yes it required more hands on work from us, coordinating subs, meeting for site visits, making phone calls, etc. Every step is lined out in your construction binder to guide you along the way. We had some minor issues with subs, they were quick to help resolve them. We saved money everywhere we could because we were in control of everything we chose for our home. We recently hosted an open house for UBI prospective clients, and we received so many compliments on our home. If we build another house we would definitely use UBI!! read more

We loved our experience with UBuildIt Schertz and highly recommend them for anyone wanting 100% custom, involvement in every step of the process and even doing some of the work yourself. UBuildIt guided us through every phase from initial planning and budgeting, to hiring contractors and inspections at each juncture. They have great working relationships with excellent contractors (we used their recommendations for most of the companies from the list they provided), are very receptive and responsive to concerns, and taught us everything we needed to know about building our home. We've been in our home for over a year now. I've waited to write a review because my recommendation comes with a few suggestions. 1. You will be heavily involved in every aspect of the build. This begins with budget; to me, this is the most important part of the process. No one ever suggests to skip the details. When you're presented with the vendor bids and the opportunity to look them over, do it. There could be 50-100 bids...read them before selecting the vendor...ask questions. Their understanding of what you want in your home may be incorrect; and it's up to you to catch these mistakes. Sometimes, a re-bid is necessary....sometimes the price goes up. But all this is done before a budget is finalized. If you have specific costs related to your area (water meter installation, running utilities, building fees, HOA costs, permits) research that yourself. UBI tries to know every neighborhood's set of requirements, but things change. Don't forget to include soft costs (such as plans, land clearing, hauling off debris, periodic cleanings during construction) in your budget if you are financing these things. 2. If something seems too low or too high, question it. Get outside bids from vendors you know, not just those recommended from UBI. We had a mix of both...I think this worked great. It creates a "checks and balances" system between their vendors and your vendors. Communicate with these guys and establish a trust with them. Of course, before any work is done, have them sign the required agreement and keep on file. Do not pay fully for anything until work is completed to your satisfaction. When things really get going, expect to be on the job site a couple hours each day. (You really have to anyway, in order to lock up the house once doors/windows are in.) 3. Your on-site project consultant (we had Juan)--communicate with him. Juan was so helpful. He offered his suggestions, but still let us control the process. He met with us per the schedule in the UBI binder, which I feel was an appropriate amount of times. If an issue arose, he was available via phone or text outside of those scheduled meetings. If it was a major issue, he'd make it a point to stop by. If we had trouble with a subcontractor not returning our call, Juan would intervene and make it happen. We did not rely on him for simple tasks that we could be doing ourselves...but we knew he was there if we needed extra help. I think he truly wanted our home to be successful. 4. It helps to have a good sense of what you want. Some people need help with picking out paint, fixtures, etc...if you don't enjoy that kind of thing, this process is not for you. You will find it overwhelming because there are a LOT of details. On the other hand, if you can visualize what you want and clearly communicate those details to someone else (*super important*) you will love building a home yourself. Why did we choose UBI? We wanted a specific style of home, different from what we usually see in our area. We also wanted to avoid the markup that a builder charges to oversee a project (some builders take on too much, and they're really not onsite as much as they should be anyway.) Thirdly, we wanted to know our home was quality, and no corners were cut. We built with a popular home builder before, and weren't impressed with the overall quality of work. Though the process can be stressful at times, we got to see our home from the "inside out." All in all, it was a good experience for us. Just accept the roles of Project Manager and Financial Manager from the beginning--it will help you get into the right mindset to complete the project on time and on budget. read more

First, let me clarify: I AM that old guy who yell's "get off my lawn". With that said, my wife and I are so totally pleased at every aspect of the final product we received from good, honest folks at UBuildIt that I had to take a moment and write this review. I was very skeptical and cautious going into this relationship based on the seemingly hard to believe promises made ...first at one of their public seminars and then again when i first met privately with Virgil and Lee in the Schertz office. We had a clear idea of what we wanted in a home but concluded we would have to significantly downsize our expectations. The UBI folks told us that not only could they build our dream home within our budget but we could get a number of extras. And ya know what, I'll be damned if they didn't deliver! We got the house we wanted, with the extras we added, for the price we agreed to on day one, at a quality standard that we love. The superintendent, Juan, did an amazing job coordinating and communicating throughout the 7 months of the project and basically made our life easy. I've been in construction for almost three decades. There's some great companies, some good companies and unfortunately some really bad. Before i signed anything with these guys, I spoke to a half dozen of their previous clients throughout the Central TX region and was told good things. Almost two years later, I am comfortable to tell anyone who's looking at using UBI, that these folks in the SA Office are one of the great companies. They made big promises on quality, schedule and communicating with us throughout.....and they kept them! read more

In 2018, we built a 3550 square foot, one story custom home in New Braunfels by using Ubuild-it in Schertz. Although they talk a very, very good game, when it comes down to it they are unable to produce real solutions to real problems that occur during the course of a build. They also allow contractors on their preferred contractors list based on cronyism. read more

Amazing experience With UBuildit Our home building experience has been very positive. UBuildit has a solid reputation for delivering an excellent product. Lee and his team was attentive to all our questions and concerns, even meeting us several times at the job site for consultations. We found the team to be honest and straight forward, following through on all their promises. Juan, our consultant, was always willing to hear our ideas and make feasible changes to our original home design plans. Virgil provided excellent customer service in every way. He helped us to plan and design our home. He did not pressure us into any options we had not discussed. Tami was always busy behind the scenes. She was especially knowledgeable in explaining costs and how to navigate through the payments to our vendors. Tami was always pleasant and helpful. Juan was very polite and thorough about attention to detail. He pointed out many small things during our walk through which needed to be corrected that we hadn't even noticed. UBuildit stands behind their product and works to make sure their customers are satisfied! We have are very happy with our new home. What a great experience in life! Getting to design and build your own home for yourself and your family is a great way to go. The folks at U-Build-It were beside me the whole way. Their advice, guidance, and expertise allowed me to build my own home and avoid the pitfalls usually associated with taking on a major project without any previous experience. At the start of my project, U-Build-It was fantastic. They were very helpful and guided me through the home-building process (although I have structural engineering experience and am a project manager) This was prior to making my last payment. Like any sub-contractor, once paid they lost interest in helping me. After making my last payment to UBI, I asked for help getting subs out to finish work, answer technical questions, and next steps completing the construction process and converting the construction loan to a permanent mortgage. They no longer followed answering my questions to completion. . Mirabel has always been helpful, but she no longer works at UBI. At the end of the construction process, I felt like I was just an annoyance. I recently called to get some help getting my painter to finish up work. I had been trying to get him out to the house for 3-4 weeks. The UBI individual several minutes trying to prove that it was more like 3-weeks rather than 4, which completely missed the point, I didn't feel like the customer any more. He then asked me if I had made my final payment to the painter. Being at work and not able to look at my records, I said, "I'm not sure, I don't remember." He then said, "Either yes, or no; what is it?" Wow!! what a difference full payment makes with the service you will receive at UBI. As I look back on it now, it was not worth the money. In my opinion, I could have gone with "Help-U-Build," or the like, for a much lower cost and received the help I needed to construct the house. Would I do it again? No, UBI is helpful (as long as you owe them money), but it's way over priced and I don't respond well to being ignored or ridiculed for not knowing something. read more
