We used Uber and the drivers name was Greg. He drove a Ford Fission and I must say I feel scammed. He took the scenic route to a location that was very close. After informing him that his route was incorrect I had to deal with a language barrier because per say he didn't speak much English. I've been using uber past couple days for ride to and from work while car is in shop. I live close to downtown so there were plenty of uber cars nearby. The app was easy to download and you can spot cars nearby and watch how far they are from you. I just added my credit card and we were ready to go. I've had about three drivers from toyota to bmw. Everyone has been friendly. I would higly suggest it. Tip: there is a coupon code you can enter saves you money on your first ride and mine ended being free since it was a short distance. read more

Horrible experience. I called for a driver to pick me up at the Alley Theatre and waited by their entrance. The driver called me and asked me where I was. I told him. He was not there and insisted he was. I tried to explain how to find me and he told me to find someone else, hung up and then would not answer his phone. I tried to call him back 3 times and he would not answer. I finally called another driver. This was downtown at night, and very uncomfortable. Uber charged me $5 for the ride that never happened and refused to refund that sum after I explained what occurred. When we got to the airport he told me there was a problem with the app and I was not billed, and since I was not billed he said he would not get paid. So I paid him the cash for the ride. The Uber drivers have been great, but the app leaves a lot to be desired: sometimes works to schedule a ride , sometimes not saying none available yet if I go online no problem finding rides. Can i give a zero? Today was the FIRST TIME and LAST TIME I experienced UBER. I was dropping my car off for an oil change and decided to take an UBER back to the office. This was the first time I was using this company. In the past I just take yellow cab but i had a free ride so i decided to try it. First of all this took place in the Katy area, we are not exactly talking the mess of downtown or midtown and i was being picked up from a GIANT TEXAS SIZED CAR DEALERSHIP which cannot be hard to miss. So i call for a driver and i dont see him anywhere finally I contact him and he is lost in Katy. How do you get lost in Katy? There is HWY 1-10 on one side and cows on the other side its really simple, and there are giant car dealerships with big Texas and American flags flying and giant logos stating their names. But somehow the best place for an uber driver to get lost is at the edge of Houston...in Katy......Anyway after haggling him for 20 minutes on the phone and trying to tell him how to to get to Don McGill Toyota off 1-10 i told him i was just going to have my coworker pick me up at which point he decided to hang up to me. During the entire conversation I could not understand what he was saying and his phone kept cutting off. Finally I just decided to wait for my car and was late to the office by 40 minutes. I REALLY REALLY WISH i had called Yellow Cab, it may be 2 dollars more but at least they know where they are. *** HOW DOES ONE GET LOST ON 1-10 IN "KATY" ***** ?????? Uber is a good concept that promotes ride sharing to save the cost of an average taxi service. However, their surge rates are astronomically high in fact used the service for a 35 mile trip home from a Halloween party was was charged ten times their normal rate (10x) and my cost for a trip home was over $500! How is that choice better than a tax service in regards to rates? Please beware of using this service during their "surge" times, it's a policy that they seemed proud of by providing a 24/7 availability with drivers. We took a taxi (van for 8 people) from the airport to our hotel. It was $100.00. We took the same ride but from the hotel back to the airport (except this time NO traffic) and used über xl. IF you can get a car the service and value are ok. But getting a car in West Houston in a reliable and reasonable amount of time is difficult. The app shows the time until pickup .... it's always 7-15 minutes for about 15-25 minutes. I guess that means there are not enough drivers ??? who knows - but if you are trying to get somewhere at a specific time BE VERY CAUTIOUS or plan to allow an extra 45 minutes - in case they never show up. read more

I experienced some price surges this weekend. I thought it was a bit odd that there was no special events in town, but we still would rather use Uber then worry about drinking and driving. It was 4.7 over the standard rate and we did not find that a problem. I need to remember to check Lyft next time, as I heard they do not do surge pricing. Uber does a terrible job of disclosing "surcharges due to high demand" on the weekends. Beware that may be charged an additional surcharge days after your ride. We were charged an extra $300 days later. If you are using your ride as your designated driver, please expressly ask what the policy is for making a "mess in the car." Houston uber drivers seems to be reimbursed $200 by uber, yet drivers have the ability to charge over that amount. Not worth the time and effort to do all your due diligence both before and after the ride. Uber, to avoid unhappy riders, please improve the way in which you disclose all of these potential surcharges before so that customers have the ability to make a more informed decision before upon deciding to make use of your services. Hate it when they do their surge pricing. However it is their business model. I give them 5 stars in Houston because I had a tesla pick me up once and that wasn't even considered luxury. Felt bad for the woman driving because she had to be uberx since her car wasn't black but for me it was an amazing experience. I got to ride a tesla and see their sun roof and we also looked for polish food on the huge monitor connected to the Internet on the dashboard. So service was great. Uber people usually also have clean cars. Cleaner than many taxis. Also uber makes you feel safer at night knowing there's not as many drunk drivers around. Houston definitely needed this! read more

You can't get it thru "promotions" on the app unless first you recommend it to someone and they actually use it and then you get a credit on your account. I have used both Uber - but more often Lyft while traveling for business throughout the US. I recently logged on for a pickup near IAH. The driver called me several times as he was unsure of my location (Airport Marriott is not too hard to locate). He told me he was 5 minutes away... then called again as asked where I was going to. I gave him the city and address of a restaurant about 15-20 minutes away. After he hung up he canceled my ride. I'm going back to Lyft! read more

I took a ride and it charged my paypal like always. Uber locked me out saying that I had not paid. I called PayPal and confirmed that the payment had gone through. I then sent Uber the transaction number so they could match the payment to my ride. I have followed up multiple times (10 times) with no resolve. I have been locked out for 3 weeks now. Uber Houston used to care about their drivers, but sadly don't anymore. For every disgruntled driver who quits, ten more are hired in their place, which is why Uber Houston can get away with the exploiting their drivers for marginal increases in profit. For example, there is no longer a trip cancelation fee in Houston; this means drivers can drive up to ten miles to pick up a customer, wait around for five minutes, and then when the customer cancels, not get paid a cent. There is also lo longer a minimum trip fare; it used to be five dollars, but now drivers can be paid as low as two dollars for very short trips. Naturally, this doesn't take into account the miles (up to ten) drivers drove in order to pick up their customers. Lastly, fare decreases. Uber drivers already lose thousands of dollars long term in vehicle depreciation due to wear and tear, and mileage on their vehicles. This fact made the old Houston rates barely worthwhile for most drivers. However, the new rates are laughable. Of course, this is all great for riders, but it is detrimental to former drivers like myself, which is why so many of us are leaving. Other cities treat drives fairly, but for some reason, Uber management in Houston thinks it's okay to allow drivers to work for basically nothing in order to attract more customers. And as I mentioned before, since they're constantly hiring new drivers, who cares if the old drivers are all quitting now by the dozens. To any potential new drivers, leave while you still can; go drive in Dallas, or some city where uber treats its drivers fairly. To those currently driving, I would highly recommend alternative means of employment, because the money you're making now is barely covering the money you're losing on gas and car depreciation. read more

If you intend to Uber beware that the driver's insurance policy may not cover you if you are injured. I had an incident with an Uber on Saturday where his passenger opened his car door into my lane of moving traffic and broke my mirror off and dented my door. The driver didn't want to give his license or insurance so we called the police. Since the insurance card he gave the police looked as if he was covered by insurance, he didn't get a ticket. Turns out his policy only covers him for personal use and not as an Uber driver. They have denied the claim and I will have to sue the driver (and perhaps Uber for not vetting this issue) to recover my costs. Thankfully nobody was injured. I got in the car at 7:50 and before I even got in, he had already started my trip. Then when I asked him about it, he said he didn't press it until I got in the car, even though my app was telling me that our trip was on its way to my destination before he even pulled up. Then once I get to my location, he waited 10 minutes after I got out to end my trip. What really would've been a 15-20 minute trip, he turned into a 45 minute trip. This experience was terrible and I will not be using Uber's services again and will make a review about this so others don't get ripped off like I did! 2/18/2017 Uber charged me 150 for what looked like was urination in the back seat when I road in the front seat of the drivers vehicle. My high rise has cameras and they refuse to look at the footage from my complex. My driver is a con artist. Another time an uber driver came into the bar and had a shot with us and continued to drive. Reported him never heard from uber on that one either. In the beginning, Uber was my dream job. I could start and stop whenever I wanted, be my own boss, and let my irregular circadian clock run amok and work all hours of the day--whenever I was most alert. The passengers loved me and I made them happy. I ended Uber with a 4.89 average and have wonderful reviews to show for my hard work. I'm 31 years old and I moved back in with my parents about 7 1/2 years ago after my first failed attempt at making it on my own when I was 23 and have been plotting my escape ever since. Uber gave me that ray of hope that I could do something I love AND earn enough to save up and move out of here with their original advertising slogans of "life-changing money." However, corporate greed took over and the big guy tried to screw over the little guy. Note: I said "tried". To all the potential drivers out there reading this, let this be a "fare" warning. HEED THIS: You will LOSE money driving for Uber. On January 9, 2016, Uber suddenly lowered the gross pay from $1.10/mi + 15¢/min to 87¢/mi + 11¢/min. Based on my monthly expenses of $969.60 which includes state required rideshare insurance, a car note (because you have to have a vehicle not be older than 7 model years), business cell with at least 6GB in data, car washes, fuel, and monthly oil changes. This amounts to a cost of 43.28¢/mi. Meaning I'm only earning 26.32¢/mi BEFORE TAXES! I had to quit because I would have to drive 141.69 active miles WITH a passenger (NOT including empty non-fare miles), just to break even. If you just drive a few miles a week on the side, you WILL lose money! You MUST drive 141.69 miles to BREAK EVEN! ANYTHING LESS, YOU LOSE MONEY! PLAIN AND SIMPLE! My calculations were based on 87¢/mi @ 20% commission here in Houston, TX. Other places are far less off than us here. Detroit, for example, is at 30¢ per mile! THAT'S CRIMINAL!!! IT'S A SCAM! What's more, Uber plans to replace ALL drivers in the not-so-distant future with self-driving cars. We have ALL been used as pawns in order to plot their cars' programming. It's not a conspiracy theory, it's a fact. Google it. It's disgusting and despicable! You will NOT make money doing this, let alone covering costs to live, and you will be DONATING your money to a $62.5 BILLION CORPORATION THAT TELLS CLIENTS THAT TIPPING ISN'T NECESSARY!!!!!! One last closing thought: everything we do in life from the clothing we wear to the merchandise we buy to the kind of food we eat to the cars we drive is a vote for what we stand for. Three out of five Uber rides I was overcharged. Silver lining I learned how to report being over charged and got refunds. Drivers did not know where to go, how to get there, use their app. First driver didn't close out my ride so I think I paid for him driving around until his next rider. Third driver go lost! Fourth driver took a different route and I got charged for it. The Worst Uber experiences in any city that I've experienced. Had a great first ride with Uber. I think it's important to remember that these are regular people using their own car. A rush hour commute from West Houston to Downtown. Driver was right in time.
