Medium made my way! This place is great!

Great customer service, healthy, good quality and very tasty. I have been here multiple times and it's still meets my expectations and some every time! I'll be back!

Açaí bowl

Definitely my new fav spot for my açaí bowl.. I absolutely loved the explanation of what real açaí is .. coming back for more in a couple days 10 out 10 ..customer service is amazing...so glad my daughter convinced me to come in. Day two!!! Back again that's how much we loved it

Outside seating only.

I woke up craving an açai bowl and somehow that craving led me straight to Ubatuba, bless the universe!!!! I went big with a large bowl loaded with blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, and mango, and I swear I got actual goosebumps watching them slice the strawberries fresh. That's how you know it's about to be good!!!!! Then I went full topping gremlin: shredded coconut, chopped almonds, goji berries, both granolas (because choosing is for the weak), almond butter, honey, and pumpkin seeds. Absolute perfection!!! Every bite was a moment!!!! Shoutout to Daisy, who absolutely understood the assignment and made my bowl with love!! There's no indoor seating, but they've got a few cute little tables outside... perfect for sitting there in silence, deeply in love with your açai!!! Ubatuba is hands down one of my favorite açai spots in the SGV because you control the base-to-topping ratio (as it should be), and their honey?? So good!!! Super floral, slightly magical, and honestly unforgettable. I'm obsessed!!!!

Tried Ubatuba Açaí in Pasadena and ordered two custom medium bowls. Let's just say... both disappeared quickly. The açaí base was smooth, thick, and actually flavorful (not icy or bland like some places). The toppings were fresh and generous every bite had a good balance of crunch, sweetness, and fruit. You could tell the ingredients weren't an afterthought. The shop was clean and welcoming, and the staff was friendly while we took our time building our bowls like it was a serious strategic decision.

This is one of my favorite acai bowl spots! There is currently a Doordash promotion - BOGO Create Your Own Bowl - $17.50! There are 3 size options - small, medium (+$3.75) and large (+$8.75) There is the option to select ratio base toppings on cup - 1/2 or 3/4 base or just base with no toppings. Loved that there are so many base options - pitaya, chia pudding, mango, overnight oats, matcha, agave coconut, and acai! Really enjoyed the variety of toppings! The Acai and matcha base was very delicious and not too sweet. The fruits - strawberry, blueberry, banana, and mango were all very sweet and fresh. The portion for toppings are very generous even though I got a small! Really enjoyed the presentation and how beautiful the Acai bowl was! Overall, this was 9/10 Definitely would recommend and return!

If you like more fruits than just bananas, strawberries, and blueberries then you'll like this place. If you prefer the bases to be actually good and are happy with just 3 fruits you'll like roots & rye a lot more. I unfortunately am the latter and the overnight oats, acai, and chai pudding all tasted odd here. I did like that they have dates, but even their dates were super chewy.

Need to taste the Brazilian style of freshness located in the Pasadena community

Delicious, freshness and very appealing. Owners are very heart warming and participates in the Altadena and Pasadena community events.

Ubatuba is my go to sweet treat place! You can get different sizes depending on how much you're craving. Kayla and the rest of the crew there are always so knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely try out the Rose Bowl if you want a little tart treat.

The most delicious, unlimited topping açaí bowl !!!!!!! Ok, so the great thing is you can make create your own bowl with unlimited toppings! It's delicious. Refreshing treat especially when it's hot. The best customer service with Dillon & Casie. The owner is also super friendly! I wish there was a place to sit. I'm always having to take it home. I don't like sitting outside because it's too loud BUT luckily the bowls travel well. They also have empanadas too and smoothies and other things BUT my fav is the bowls! Ps. They have other locations so check out their site.

I am a regular in this place. My fav açaí place in Pasadena. Lots of toppings as well as fruits choices. I love it here because fruits are always fresh cut. They also serve the best empanadas with different flavor. The place is clean and very friendly atmosphere. Shout out to Dylan and Alexis. They are the best! Parking is very accessible at the back of the building. Must visit and try their mouth watering Açaí.

My friend recommended the açaí bowl here, so my husband and I decided to share a small one with a base of açaí and chia seed pudding. The açaí was a bit too frozen, more like an Icee texture, which wasn't my favorite. However, I did appreciate the option of peaches as a fruit topping, something I haven't seen offered at most other açaí spots. I always love adding peanut butter and almond butter, so those were a win, and the worker's suggestion to top it off with PB crumble was spot on, super tasty! Overall, it made for a refreshing and satisfying snack. They also have a designated parking lot in the back, just make sure to read the signs carefully.

My first time here - GREAT SPOT!!!! Storm in' Norman was great! Was originally going to get an Açaí Bowl, but after trying the Rose Bowl - it was over!!! You gotta try the ROSE BOWL! Thank you UBATUBA & STORMIN' NORMAN for the exceptional service!!! Happy FRIYAYYY all!!

Açaí Bowl

Highly recommend this place! From the moment we walked in the owner was very helpful and let sample a few flavors. And the place itself is super cute filled with bright colors. Now for the bowl, super delicious and not too sweet like other açaí places I've tried.

DineLA started tonight and did we make the perfect selection to kick off the two weeks!…read more Service was 5-star! Gilberto was excellent...offering suggestions and explaining options as we were first time patrons of Malbec! So on to the food! Course 1: both the Cebiche Aji Amarillo albacore tuna and yucca chips and the Vieras Gratinadas scallop crab were beautifully presented. Tuna was packed with flavor and great texture layers. Scallop was more delicate and mild flavors. Second course: the out of this world Ojo de Bife Al Malbec rib eye ... would 100% order again and the excellent as well Pollo à la Granja. Sauces on both dishes were super star! Argentinian cuisine obviously treats us to incredible culinary herbs and spices (fresh dill on the scallops and rosemary on the chicken) Third course: dessert for days! Crepe De Durzano .. light crepes and gelato... and the too die for Pastelito de Membrillo. Fruity summary crispy tart like dessert with gelato and fresh berries! Lovely wine pairings suggested by Gilberto made it all a 5-star experience! We will be back!

We started at the bar with Ernesto, who was wonderful. He recommended the Moscow Mule because they make their ginger syrup in-house, and it was delicious. The red sangria was also a hit. For happy hour food, we tried the spicy beef empanadas, 5 oz skirt steak (entraña) with peppercorn sauce, and cebiche mixto. Everything was great. Our only mistake was not ordering fries to dip into that peppercorn sauce! After happy hour, we moved to our table and met our server Eder. He was sweet, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine. He made an excellent wine recommendation to pair with our dinner and started us off with complimentary warm baguette and classic chimichurri. For dinner, we ordered the Tabla Mixta with ribeye and short ribs. The meats arrived sizzling on cast iron and were cooked perfectly medium-rare. It came with three chimichurri sauces, with the garlic chimichurri being my favorite. Honestly, the meats were seasoned so well they didn't even need sauce. We also tried the Arroz con Mariscos and added Argentinean chorizo. The octopus, mussels, clams, shrimp, and scallops were all cooked perfectly. The rice was a little too wet for my preference since I enjoy the crispy, scorched bottom of a Spanish-style paella, but the seafood itself was excellent. The ambiance is lively and can get pretty loud, so we had to speak a little louder than normal. My only real complaint was the temperature in the main dining room. It was extremely warm throughout our visit, even with the AC supposedly running at full power. Interestingly, the area near the restrooms was noticeably cooler. This was really the only thing keeping our experience from being 5 stars. Parking around Green Street can be challenging, but street parking is free. We got lucky and found a spot down the block. There's also a paid public lot near Green and Mentor. Overall, Malbec delivered excellent food and even better service. Ernesto and Eder were both fantastic and really elevated our experience. We'll definitely be back for happy hour and dinner with friends and family.

We picked it in part…read morebecause of the halal options, which we appreciated, but overall the service and experience were disappointing. We had a 6:30 reservation, and after being seated at table L4, it took several minutes before anyone came over. When our waitress Karen finally approached, she greeted us with "Hello, ladies" without really looking at me. She then realized I was a man and apologized. I do have long curly hair, so I understood how the mistake happened, but it made for an awkward start to the evening. She was pleasant while explaining the menu and helped us understand which items we could eat. One of the main reasons my wife chose H&H was because of the halal meat options. Since we do not eat pork, our waitress specifically told us she would let the meat servers know not to bring pork to our table. Unfortunately, pork was still brought over to us, which was disappointing considering our dietary restriction had already been clearly discussed. After taking our drinks and getting us started, our waitress essentially disappeared. We had to flag down other staff throughout most of the meal whenever we needed something. Meanwhile, nearby tables were receiving regular check-ins and much more attention from their server. We were among the few couples of color in our immediate area, and while I can't say why our service was so different, the contrast was noticeable and made the experience uncomfortable. The meat servers were actually one of the bright spots and a big reason this isn't a one-star review. Several of them were friendly and accommodating. However, the red-and-green card system didn't seem to work consistently. Even with the green side showing, there were times we were passed by and had to ask for certain meats. The food itself was mixed. The Brazilian limeade was probably my favorite part of the meal. We also really enjoyed the cinnamon pineapple, fried plantains, Brazilian cheese bread, and the mashed potatoes, which were excellent. Some of the meats were good, but others were overly fatty or very tough and difficult to chew, also we did not like the big crystals of salt all over the meat which made it very salty. The fried corn wasn't for us. The farm-to-table area was another disappointment. We noticed numerous small flies flying around the food, which immediately turned us off, so we barely took anything from that section. Cleanliness also stood out for the wrong reasons. There was visible dust buildup on the wall and lighting area behind our table, as well as on the small lamps around us. In the restroom, there were no paper towels available for drying your hands, only the air dryer. My wife had also specifically noted on the reservation that we were celebrating my birthday. There was no acknowledgment until she went and reminded the staff herself. They eventually brought something out, which I appreciated, but by that point it felt more like an afterthought. Even getting the bill at the end was difficult. We were left waiting and eventually had to track someone down just so we could pay. There were definitely some good moments, the Brazilian limeade, cinnamon pineapple, Brazilian cheese bread, mashed potatoes, some of the meats, and several helpful meat servers, but for a birthday dinner costing us well over $200, I expected much better service, cleanliness, attention to our dietary request, and overall hospitality. Unfortunately, this was not the birthday dinner we were hoping for.

The have a fantastic happy hour with half off some of their drinks and half off certain appetizers and entrees (check thier website!). Their corn bread is a must with thier iconic japelpeno jam spread (though its not included on thier happy hour). They have great sides and appetizers, and haven't had one I didn't like! Their baby back, spare ribs, and brisket are fantastic with sauces on the side if you wanted to more BBQ sauce to your BBQ meat! Though in my opinion, I don't need it usually, as the meats are already so flavorful as is! I'd say its great for groups, though a bit pricy, but boy is this good, hearty, fall of the bone, BBQ! The servers have always been great and kind and even when we were celebrating a birthday last visit, they brought out a icecream Sundae with a candle! Very sweet! I talked to a man at the South Pasadena museum and told us that Gus's is the oldest BBQ establishment in California, serving hungry patrons since 1946. They haven't been in business in over 70 years for nothing! Thought it's been a long time, the place is still well maintained and updated so it still is nice and clean, but still keeping its historic core. Overall, a bit disappointed for the price point this restaurant tries to be in. I do rate upper quality restaurants a bit more since I feel like I am paying for an experience for the money a fancy restaurant commands and not just simply for the food they serve. We arrived at 6PM on Friday. Alexander's was not busy at all, although walking in, everyone seemed to be busy with everything except for the customer. Hostess was not in front at the time, waiters in the dining table seemed to be just standing talking to each other. The cooking staff seemed to be talking to each other as well. We received no greeting.. we thought maybe they weren't opened yet? But sure enough they were after looking online. After some time, the hostess came and asked how many people in our party. I mentioned two, and that's when she received a phone call... It was the steakhouse phone, so must've been someone asking questions, but she was literally on the phone for a good two minutes with no sense of urgency to hang up the phone. After the two minutes, someone else came by and seated us. We were told that Frederick would be our server. Not sure if it was actually Frederick that waited on us since we did not get an introduction, but he was a French guy. Not too friendly, to the point, but was attentive when he was around. The back waiter was a lot more friendlier and personable. He was the main reason we had a good experience! As we were waiting for our order Chris comes up and serves us a watermelon hors d'oeuvres or something that came from the chef. We put it on the side since we were waiting for our drinks to come. Old fashioned with bourbon - this drink looked a bit plain, and was a bit too sweet for my liking. Presentation had one color going on. They should have garnished with a cocktail cherry. Geez I sound so bougie. haha - 6/10 Saturday night's ... - A lot of words for a simple drink. My wife said it was definitely refreshing and she would get it again, but nothing stood out about the drink. - 5/10 Watermelon hors d'oeuvres - This was very good! Watermelon was sweet. It had a salty flavor to it with a hint of mint to it. It was definitely refreshing! 9/10 Bread Basket - It was okay. The cinnamon roll looking thing was ooooookay.... the pretzel bites were the best and the long thing was wayy too dry - 4/10 Hamachi Shots - These were good.. not great. No one showed us how to eat this. It was a hamachi fish and other stuff in a shot glass. Can't just pour it out because the fish would get stuck inside the shot glass. If you scoop it with the small spoon they give you, you don't get to enjoy all the ingredients at once in your mouth. Very weird. It was good.. if you shoot the sauce, it becomes very overpowering with ponzu notes, so I assume you just use the spoon to scoop out the hamachi in two spoonfuls - 7/10 Hokkaido Scallops - These were the takeaway for my wife. I thought they were really good as well, once you know what to expect. Scallops usually have a light flavor to these. The Hokkaido scallops served here are garnished with backed fish flakes similar to katsuoboshi, which upped the ocean flavor up by 100. It took a bit to get used to since I was not expecting it to be such a powerful taste. When you expect this, each bite after that is amazing. I recommend eating a small bite first, then finishing it up on your 2nd bite 8/10 Australian Bone-In Ribeye - We had this at medium rare. This was a fatty steak, but was a bit too fatty for medium rare. I should have ordered medium so the fat would render a bit more. The cut we had had lot of fat on one end and perfect marbling on the other. I think I just had a no-so-great cut. What I found odd was that the steak comes pre-cut. Usually high quality steakhouses don't do this to lock in the juices of the steak, and other steakhouses do this more to make a tough steak seem more tender by cutting against the grain for you. I was not a fan that they cut our ribeye for us. 7/10 Yu-Choy - This was AMAZING! Vegetables with an Asian flare. This is a must have! I wish I could write more, but there is a cap on review length - 10/10 Mushroom Medley - This was also amazing!! A mushroom medley covered in butter with a hint of yuzu! This was so good, we almost ordered two! 10/10 Creme Brulee - Good, but not great. Not a fan of the bourbon that they infused in the dessert 5/10 All in all, as with all steakhouses, the steak is what makes you come, but the sides are what makes you come back! The sides were excellent! The steak was meh, and the service primarily came from our back waiter. Not sure if we would come back due to the prices of the steak.. a bit pricey for what it is... compared to other steakhouses in this price point. Our service from Frederick was sub-par, but our back waiter made up for it. We'll come back for the sides!

There are 2 other North Woods Inn locations (Covina and La Mirada), one Steak 'N Stein (Pico Rivera) and one Clearman's Galley, also here in San Gabriel, aka "The Boat" for its signature red boat exterior. There used to be a Steak 'N Stein in San Gabriel as well, but now it's just a larger North Woods. The Galley has relocated and been enlarged a few feet south of its original spot; it's now akin to a sports bar, but kids are welcome. Both restaurants are on Rosemead just south of Huntington. A a child I was entranced by North Woods Inn's signature snow-topped roof. The exterior and interior are styled as a winter mountain log cabin hunting lodge. The interior is filled with lodge tchotchkes like taxidermied bears, mounted elk heads, stained glass windows of wintry scenes. The floor is strewn with sawdust and peanut shells you are encouraged to throw there. The dining room is on the dark side and has a full bar. There are several large banquet rooms beyond the restrooms. We came for the DineLA lunch. Note the restaurant has 2 entrances, the host stand is located inside the north entrance; look for the snow-topped entry arch and the Christmas pine trees on the doors. The main menu sits on each table on an easel. Every table gets a bowl of peanuts. The DineLA menu has 3 courses, all with options, at both lunch and dinner, with fancier options on the pricier dinner menu. Any beverages are extra. Here's what we ordered: 1) Beer-battered zucchini sticks. Ordered a la carte. Decent zucchini, but a smallish portion. The blue cheese dressing served alongside did not have strong blue cheese flavour. 2) Starter. Options were salads (house and red cabbage) or soup, plus cheese bread. The cabbage salad had a decent vinaigrette, the house salad's house dressing was rather bland, ranch-like I suppose. The clam chowder was okay, more potatoes than clams. There was another soup option I don't recall. The cheese bread was very good. 3) Entree. Options were petite steak and shrimp, petite filet mignon or jumbo coconut shrimp. We had the first two. The petite steak was a top sirloin, decently grilled with properly hatched grill marks. The 3 shrimp were supposedly grilled, served with drawn butter and lemon. The petite filet was indeed petite. We both opted for the baked potato side, with cheese butter. Large and pretty tasty. Other carb options were rice pilaf or steak fries. 4) Dessert. Key Lime Pie Tart or Chocolate Mousse Cake. The tart came wrapped in paper like a muffin, nicely tart with a bit of an aftertaste. Service was nice and attentive. Overall a decent meal, good value with DineLA. I'd call this a mid-level steakhouse, probably better than Outback but lesser than The Derby, Fleming's or Ruth's Chris.
