Wednesday morning we were at All Things Storage. Since I only rented a truck, I know nothing about their storage services. All Things Storage is in Fountain Square, and a bit farther away from my house I was packing than I had hoped. It was an older building and had no parking lot for customers. We had to parallel park on a side street. A couple of shady characters walked past, and I was sure to keep the car doors locked. A narrow bumpy alleyway full of large potholes the city have no doubt left in disrepair for years is behind the storage place. The entrance to the alley was right to the side of where we had to park. Now, it isn't All Things Storage's fault that they have a crappy alley or that U-Haul sent us this far away and charged us for a "dolly" that was actually a large skateboard, so I'm basing stars on the service given here. It took several minutes to get checked in and sent on our way with our truck. It wasn't busy, but it took twenty minutes. There were U-Hauls parked on the side road where we were parked, and that was strange enough. The truck we needed was a block away on English. The building seems to be a tight squeeze and not the best location for neither a U-Haul store nor a storage unit. I kind of felt like I was in a rundown section of Chicago that you don't want to be in even during daylight hours. Since it seemed like the trucks were awkwardly scattered on the outskirts of the property, I'm not certain where the storage facilities are or how you access them, especially if you have a U-Haul full of stuff. Now, they may very well have a great storage business. I don't know, but, just from my impression of the outside, I personally don't think I would feel safe storing things here if I had to be down here alone or with another woman sorting through my things with the unit open, but that's just me. All Things Storage also lies right next to train tracks. While I rather enjoyed seeing and hearing the train go by when we first arrived, I could see how the tracks could certainly be a potential problem for some to get in and out of this facility, especially with a U-Haul and if you're in a hurry to get on the road or to return a truck. Overall, we did get the truck we needed, and we weren't mugged, but it was just more awkward and complicated than it needed to be. I don't like that there is no private lot for customers to collect their U-HAUL. It could have been worse, so I'm going middle of the road here on stars, even though I would personally try to get a truck from another U-Haul location in the future.

They left two college girls without movers and without a storage unit and were less than helpful with advice. Other than offering for them to move out a day later, but the girls lease was already up, and they had already turned all their stuff in. You can't just stay an extra day in an apartment for free, and it's Memorial Day weekend and it's not like they could go extend their lease. Didnt even offer to help in trying to find other movers or another storage unit. We are not from the area and this was just a really disappointing experience. we offered to help them load the truck ourselves and begged them to still move them because the lease was up and the girls HAD to move out. I am speechless at the lack of professionalism, and instead of offering guidance or another moving company number, they got upset and raised their voice at us instead like we were at fault. I understand things come up, but you could at least be a decent business person and try to offer solutions, especially for people who are out of town.

Love this facility. The manager on site is super cool and personable. It's "24 hour access"…read moreadvertising is true (when most places lie about that) and extremely convenient. I'm only giving them 4 stars however since none of the units have lights anymore and that is not the case at other U-Stor locations. I found that out while signing the lease. However, they often have move-in specials and I only had to pay $20 to initially rent and then got $20 off my first full month's "rent." Definitely look up the directions as it is easy to pass on the road and it's basically on a one-way at that location on Madison.

I inherited this large unit from my mother when she passed away. It is less expensive than a smaller unit I was renting in the suburbs close to my house. We dumped that one and are using this one. This one is large enough for a car and a bunch of the personal items we had stored in the other unit. Close to downtown and work. 45 minute drive from my house.
