Tons of parking, easy drive thru mail boxes, post boxes galore, spacious so you don't feel cramped, with several desks throughout for customers to us to address letters, fill out forms, or package boxes! There are several kiosks with gift cards, greeting cards, and fun, whimsical shipping supplies to give your packages a pop of color! The sliding doors are motion activated and there's a futuristic sense of awe in this spacious post office. As the older post office buildings are being neglected in many small towns, this newer one is thriving and bustling! It has my stamp of approval! Hours M-F 8:30-5:00

The "old" Ashland post office, built in 1940, is located on the next block, which still has the post office gold lettering on the brick facade. It now houses attorneys and other offices. The actual "newer"post office, built in 1992, is located at 301 England Street. Definitely a more modern building, but still possesses some small town charm. The interior is impressive with Tuscan columns, high ceilings, A-framed glass windows and Spanish tiled floors. The large, open floor plan creates a well-lit, airy space. For such spacious area, I was surprised that they don't provide passport services here. Their services are limited to the typical ones you'll find at most such post offices: P.O. boxes, money orders, stamps, shipping supplies, greeting cards, bulk mail and general delivery. I didn't even see a self-serve kiosk. I feel like they could expand their services to accommodate the Ashland community. After all, it is the "Center of the Universe"!

The other people are not helpful, often making problems worse. I have had NUMEROUS terrible issues with mail holds, including them getting the dates wrong. The carriers are also less than stellar, often not delivering our mail and giving us the wrong mail. I witnessed a situation today where a patron came to pick up a packae that should have been delivered to him, the carrier did not take it to his house. So, he had requested for pick up at the post office and had appropriate notification for pick up, but the carrier picked it up and planned to deliver it after all. My most recent complaint is regarding a travel hold, which the carrier misread, and started holding mail ten days early. I had been notified that i receiving a new credit card, and when I didn't receive when I was told that I would, I went over to the Post Office and found that the hold was initiated early, I got all today's mail except the credit card. I am going to have to go over there at 8:30 a.m. to find out where it is.....this is ENORMOUSLY FRUSTRATING! THEY NEED TO HIRE MORE PEOPLE AND TRAIN THEM AND EDUCATE THE CARRIERS TO BE MORE ATTENTIVE TO THE MAIL THAT THEY DELIVER AND THE PEOPLE ON THE ROUTE!!! IT NEVER SEEMS TO GET ANY BETTER....

There's a self service kiosk located in the lobby area of the post office as soon as you enter. If you're using priority mail there's also the labels, packaging, etc. needed in the lobby area as well. The postal workers never seem to place a small priority box in the lobby area. If you need a small priority box, then come during the hours that the desk is open so that you can get the small priority mail box or bring your own box. If you need to get your passport, then you can do this at this location. Please come early because they take only so many people each day. As always, don't forget to pack your patience when you come!!

You may have some long Lines at lunchtime, but I was in and out like first class delivery! It was rather spacious, clean, well-stocked. I love the postal system! It's history, the colorful post offices all over the country, and meeting the postmasters all intrigue me! Ruther Glen is an unincorporated community that's serves about 16,000 folks! This post office has odd hours: M-F 9-4:30 closes from 1:30-3 for lunch - haven't seen a post office that closes that long for lunch but good for them! Sat. 10-12.

Lights are out on the overhang, "letters" are missing from the sign on the brick wall, crumbling concrete, potholes in the parking lot ... oy vey! A government post office needs to be maintained, and why this Glen Allen annex has been allowed to become dilapidated is beyond me. I remember this post office when I lived in the area as a kid, and it never looks like this, but it's been neglected over the decades. Inside the floors are so dingy and dirty, I could actually feel the grit under my boots. The rugs were filthy and the trash was overflowing. Empty cardboard boxes were strewn about and just grody. The little "garden box" out front was overgrown with weeds, and this place definitely needs some curb appeal. I noticed several customers just driving by the outside drop off mailbox with their letters, no doubt not wanting to enter this disaster. The hours are posted on the door, but I'd probably suggest going a few miles away to the post office on Sadler or Parham. I was tempted to give a two stars, because the service is decent and the greeting card kiosk was cute, but it was in such bad shape, I just couldn't. Please "deliver" some help to this post office! Makeover please!!
