Here in FU (oops!) proper, there are about 900 residents with the zip code 23055. The town is old fashioned, with a homey pharmacy up the street, a couple of local red, and a few businesses and home to the military school Fork Union Military Academy. One business was right on time! The $ General came in handy when my phone died and I had to buy a car charger! Thanks Fork Union! Back to the post office, there are some local newsstands outside, inside there's a greeting card kiosk and plenty of mailing and shipping supplies. A big messy bulletin board is covered with local news, business cards, and flyers. The people here are friendly and helpful. But, like I said, needs some tlc, just like the plant on the counter that seems to match the vibe as it needs attention. Hours M-F 8:30-12:30,1-4:30. Sat 9:30-11:30

This post office has odd hours: M-F 9-4:30 closes from 1:30-3 for lunch - haven't seen a post office that closes that long for lunch but good for them! Sat. 10-12.

The exterior is fabulous! The cream and rust colored paint, the tree trunk columns, the wrought iron- all add the the charm and allure of this post office, which used to be a general store. I love when government post offices are unique and have so much character! Inside is an incredible museum of the post office, with antiques, old photos, and lots of wood and brass fixtures, even a wood stove! Cameron, the postmaster, was kind enough to give us a mini history of the area and welcomed us like we were old friends! They sold the elephant stamps which I hadn't seen before! I know that the Bumpass branch is over whelmed with deliveries. Now saying that i received a…read moredelivery yesterday. It was left on the side of the road, at the mail box in the rain and mud. The box was in a condition from being rain on, that i got my clothes muddy, the box fail apart. If you have a delivery just call and i will be glad to come out of my house, in the rain and i walk with a cane, by the way. But i would come to get it at the road side. Even though that it would probably take me 5 minutes to come to the road I would do that. I am handicap and that is the reason i have things delivered. This is the second time this has happened. I dont go out much so deliveries are the way i get things. Please i dont normally write reviews but maybe you all need to hire more people because its apparent that your driver can not make a simple delivery. So thank you, for a wet muddy box, that you all left on the side of the road, for someone to steal.

This tower is located in James Center. It towers at 45-feet tall and houses a 25-bell carillon and…read moreiron cast figures. The figures include bargemen and mules representing canal life in 1785-1879. The figures rotate on the top and bottom of each hour to the tune of changing melodies. The tower has a functional clock on each of its three sides. The tower is made of limestone and the figures are made of iron. The tower was dedicated in 1987 and looks great, especially considering its age. It is the work of Koninkiijke Eijsbouts from the Netherlands. I like this interactive piece. Especially knowing its story. The figures are very detailed and was really cool peeking out of the tower. So, now at least you know the piece's background if you come across it. It is definitely worth a peek. You will find metered street parking out front and within a reasonable walking distance from the statue. Anyway, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.
