As multiple people have already said for this location they neglect routine maintenance on their trucks!!! I have used u Haul hundreds upon hundreds of times never having an issue as I am a favored mover with them on their U-Haul site. This is by far the worst location I've ever dealt with. They don't do their job and try to pass the buck onto the next renter of the truck. Please avoid using this location maybe they'll switch management as well as the people who handle the customer service at the location 0/10 service from a normally 8/10 company! I rented a truck for an out of state move from this location. Customer service was minimal and the rental process was incomplete at best. Upon getting the truck, I was told that I would have 1//4th a tank of fuel, it did not (we have pictures as proof). After putting in gas, I was flagged down to be made aware I had a gas leak. After a 2 or 3 hour wait for roadside assistance, I was told there was a hole in the tank (we have pictures as proof). Apparently, it's common to have the gas syphoned from certain places with the vehicle being in an unsecure location. The mechanic (Uhaul roadside assistance) that patched the tank on site informed us of multiple cases such as this. In addition to low air pressure in tires and no oil in the truck. None of which was found out until already into the trip. Not to include faulty weather strips on the doors, which made the trip unnecessarily loud and uncomfortable. These minor emergencies delayed and postponed my arrival to Texas by 4 hours which put me at a huge disadvantage. This is by far the worst service I have ever received. Normal routine maintenance should be a priority when renting vehicles/trucks to customers. Should not matter if it was a quick local move or an out of state. Lives are at risk. I'm very unhappy and disappointed in my overall experience with this company. I've reached out to customer service to initiate a complaint/dispute. Raymond Williams and U-Haul are scammers and I will be making a BBB complaint amongst others after this. They double charged me in December, which multiple representatives on the phone said they are NOT supposed to do. Then, without my consent, Raymond Williams refunded my money and RECHARGED me with a late fee even though they kept my money a month before it was due. No one has fixed this issue and instead they just say they're busy. You are not allowed to just take money from people and dodge the phone in hopes that they will go away. read more

It's a nightmare of U-Haul running my credit card to try to get fees they didn t even tell me about. I turn in my rental and they tell me to have a nice day and everything is good. Next thing I know they are running charges on my credit card that they said nothing about when I turned in the rental. They don't bother to say, "Hey, you owe another 20 bucks." they just run your card when you're gone. The staff are aloof and disengaged, like it is a bother to do their job. I reserved a van from U-Haul over the phone for 4/19/2025-4/22/2925 reservation #70976216 for pick up at 550 n Scottsdale rd in Tempe Arizona when I arrived at that location via a Waymo I was told the van was at another location and I was sent to 800 n McClintock dr in Tempe. I had to call for an additional Waymo to take me to that location which cost an additional $14.97. After jasmine provided me with the key I drove 5.6 miles to my hotel at 2165 w 15th street in Tempe. When I arrived at the hotel I noticed the gas tank was empty Since I was finished using the van a day early I decided to drop it off one day early on 4/21/2025 at 800 n McClintock dr in Tempe with jasmine. Just prior I filled $40.00 worth of gas at circle k into the tank. I drove 12 miles from an Airbnb in phoenix 85009 zipcode While I was waiting for want to pick me up I observed a U-Haul employee checking the van and cleaning the windshield. Nothing out of the ordinary was communicated with me by any staff at that U-Haul location in person, by phone or email While I was checking my online banking account I noticed obscene additional fraudulent posts from U-Haul in the amounts of $324.47 and $49.66 posted on 4/23/2025 When I called the customer service phone number I was told there were miles on the van that was so out of step with my actual usage I knew immediately U-Haul had taken me for a ride I was never able to get past the automated system in my attempt to speak with jasmine directly read more

I needed to move my stuff from one airbnb to another and didn't want to do a lyftXL as we had 4 hours in between check out and check in and didn't want to rush pack an XL. I had to go into the store instead of doing their express pickup because I have a Texas drivers license. They did something tacky that I never seen before at any uhaul I been to and it was you must and have to provide a phone number of someone that HAS to answer or you can't rent the van/truck. I understand this is near the college and they want to make sure their equipment comes back, but what about someone who needs a van to move stuff to escape a domestic violence situation? After having to go through this long as hell pickup process, I finally got the keys to a newer shuttle van. Unfortunately it reeked of smoke and it wasn't even all the way full with gas but it was something I needed at that moment. These five stars are really for Donivan. I came into the office here today ready to give them a one star review and to take my business elsewhere. The area manager or whoever is handling the renovation project at the site where my stuff is stored is making a hot mess of it, both in policy and customer communication. I was so frustrated by trying to reach people and make arrangements to get my stuff moved somewhere, I had reached my limit and came into the office ready for a fight. Not only did Donivan handle the situation with calm efficiency, he came up with the perfect solution and helped me find a unit that fit my needs nearby. By being so professional, tactful and solutions oriented, he not only turned my day around, he saved his company hundreds if not thousands of dollars in residual revenue. The worst business experience EVER! We Reserved a temp controlled unit on line 3 months in advance only to find out that this local does not honor the reservation and it's "first come and first serve." We therefore had NO temperature controlled unit to move 5 students out of ASU for summer in Tempe AZ! Manager was Not helpful and did Nothing to make the situation better (ie did not try to find us another unit nor any discount etc). We left very upset! Some problems arose with some hitch wiring I had done at another Uhaul location in Phoenix. A bad box and some half ass wiring methods. Reserved a U-Haul in Tempe Town Town Lake - 800 N McClintock Dr . They called to confirm 2 days prior. They said they were making the reservation for 10 AM. I told them it would be 12:00 PM when I got there and they said that would be fine. When I got to the rental office at 12:00 PM, they had given away the truck to someone else. Their info says a reservation is not a final confirmation, but what do you have to do to have final confirmation? I have heard this same story from multiple people regarding u-haul. They need a much better system to hold reservations - why not collect a deposit to guarantee the reservation like other people do? I am furious. If I can tive 0 stars I would. Firs ofd I rent out a storage unit and find out the unit doesnt have the capability to be locked. Unfortunately I find that out after Ive moved everything into the unit and I get told the best they can do is leave a truck in front and that theyll get a latch installed immediately the next day Weeks go by and nothing gets done. They also told me they would contact me when the latch is installed. Today I go to my unit and find that my unit has a latch. I got absolutely no communication from UHaul. I am now locked out if my own unit with basically my entire possession in that unit. I bring his up to the employees working the desk and there is no sense of urgency to help. All they can do is wait for someone in the morning to cut it off. This place is so poorly managed its unbelievable. read more

The dorky manager of this store is an absolute snake. The employees are all incompetent. They give you a truck with half tank of gas which makes zero sense. Why wouldn't you fill it up every time? When I returned the truck, I had to track down a worker as they all acted like they were competing in the backwards 200 yard dash. After finally turning in the truck, I asked for a receipt which he didn't know how to provide. I was told I would be emailed a copy of one which never happened. I then get charged $50 for not filling the gas which i have a receipt from the gas station that I did put exactly the same amount in it. After trying to call and dispute it, no one returned my calls. This place absolutely sucks. On top of that, the truck was a pos. No ac, smelled like a bum lived in it and radio didn't even work. read more

If you read my last review, you realized I was truckless and moving the next morning. This UHaul location is a couple miles from the Budget Truck Rental location. I drove over and rented a truck there for the morning move. It cost about 20% more than it would have at Budget, but they had a truck and it was my only real choice at that point. It was an OK truck. I wish it had a power lift on the back instead of the ramp. I would say they were generous with the recorded amount of gas in the truck when I picked it up. That is always nice to have done. When moving yourself, obviously price is the driving factor. I only wish they were willing to price match. read more

I called the UHaul location via the local number ahead of time, asked if they were open, and had propane. The answers were yes and yes. Drove there; hit the "call button" outside, unloaded 3 propane tanks, waited about 10 min outside. Another vehicle showed up also needing propane. I went inside and the manager "Rodney" was there. He said "no propane today". After telling the manager that I had called ahead where they had confirmed availability just 30 min prior, he became defensive and said I lied. I offered to show my phone record on my phone, but he didn't care. I went outside to relay this info to the older couple in the 2nd vehicle. They were disappointed. I re-entered the office and asked for the general manager, he said "I am the general manager" as he almost threw his name-tag towards me. When I went back outside a 3rd vehicle showed up, I relayed the info that the angry manager wasn't in the mood for propane refills today - despite the fact I called ahead. They immediately asked; was his name Rodney? Apparently this gentleman had given them the run-around earlier today as well regarding propane and told them to come back at 12pm which was now. All three vehicles left, and drove down to the Mobil gas station on the North West corner of McKellips and McClintock instead - 0.5 miles away. Cheaper propane and friendlier service. I have never met ruder employees or a dirtier disgusting facility. We rented a small unit to store our daughter's belongings from college when Covid shut the campus down. Unfortunately the location where the unit is (500 N Scottsdale Rd) doesn't have anyone manning it. If you have a question or an issue you have to go to the one on McClintock. They are rude as hell. Then when I got to the Scottsdale Rd. location to remove our belongings, my access code wouldn't open the gate. I sat on hold with the McClintock Rd. location for 10 minutes and was hung up on. When I finally got someone to answer the phone again, I was promptly placed on hold AGAIN. After 20 minutes of being on hold I drove over there and waited in line, still on hold with them. When it was my turn I showed the employee my phone and told him that I was STILL on hold with him. He looked completely dumb and said "oh, really?!" All they had to do was reset my code. They could have done that over the phone while I was at the other location but they are rude, unorganized and need someone there that can be in charge. Customer service is EVERYTHING now a days and they have 0. Outside my storage unit looked as though the homeless have been camping there. Some of the units were unlocked and open and you could tell that the homeless actually were living in them. If you are going to have a location, then you either need someone there to assist or a direct phone number that you can call and reach someone. We will never EVER use Uhaul again. What should have taken me 15 minutes took me an hour and a half. I have pictures of the disgusting mess that I will be sending to corporate. This is completely unacceptable. read more

We have been using Uhaul for 30 years. Most employees are helpful and friendly. We have always been more than pleased with the service. Beware of the location on McKellips and Center in Mesa. Visited this location on 4/8, no trailers available. That happens, I asked if they could look up another location and one employee started to look it up. The other employee told them to stop and said they could not look it up and we'd have to call. If there's an ability to help a customer why tell someone to stop helping? She was rude and unprofessional which is so unusual for Uhaul employees and I believe she was the manager. I'd love to know if managers receive regular customer service training? read more

I paid for 24/7 access and they had issues with their keypads, so I couldn't access my storage when I needed to on more than one occasion. Their sensors for the storage units (their security system for the storage) were also malfunctioning. One of the employees that I had worked with on multiple occasions became extremely rude when I brought up these issues and a refund for any features I was paying for but not receiving. That employees attitude carried over into future interactions to the point I felt like I needed to move my items, which I did. I do not recommend at all, there are multiple facilities literally just south towards Rio Solado & University. read more

With it being October 1st, availability was very, very, very low so I can understand why he was so stressed out and annoyed with my request. Yes, I can understand that, but also, look at it from my perspective: I booked that fucker a month ago and those other dipshits fell through. Be sure that a representative accompanies EVERY customer to do a walk around of the vehicle before allowing them to leave the lot. We were told not to worry about noting all of the dents and scratches, that it wasn't that big of a deal. The vehicle was covered in little X stickers, including the area of a large swipe of paint across the passenger side door. Yet when I returned the vehicle I was blamed for hitting a pole and lying about it. I was trapped in a situation that could have been avoided had the representative simply accompanied me to look at the vehicle during the walk-around. I appreciate that U-Haul "took my word" for the situation, but I do not appreciate being trapped and blamed for an act I simply did not commit. This is the third time I have used U-Haul and the third time I have had an unpleasant experience. read more

I wish I caught his name, a larger bearded guy with tattoos - he literally made my whole day and made my move to California much easier. I had a terrible experience at a different Uhaul, a family storage facility, and I came to him last minute to book a truck. I was obviously in disarray and he helped me get a Uhaul and dolly last minute. He was great - this facility is clean and open and had plenty of people on site to help. I rented a truck and moving pads from this location. I came in a week prior to my rental date to pick up some moving supplies and they staff was very helpful in helping me pick out the right mattress bag and boxes. They even carried them out to my car for me! When it was time to move, the truck was very clean and ready for me when I arrived. The process to check out the truck was maybe 10 minutes total. I know that the end of the month weekend is always the busiest with people closing on homes and leases ending. So, I made sure I rented my equipment the weekend before the end of the month weekend. They weren't very busy and I was able to get in and out with no issues. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. They took the time to walk me around the truck and make sure I was comfortable with all of the features. Later that day, when I returned the truck, they met me outside when I pulled up. They did a quick inspection of the vehicle and I was on my way. I have no complaints and had a great experience with this center. read more

David attached the tow dolly for my boyfriend's vehicle and showed us how to attach and detach it ourselves. He also sent us helpful videos in addition. I've used U-Haul about a half dozen times to make a move. This time was slightly different. All I needed was a big enough vehicle to pick something up and take it home (I've reached the age where few of my friends have a truck or SUV anymore, and not enough kids to go out and get a new one, yet). I rented a utility van for 20 dollars plus mileage. Not a bad deal, but still came to a lot more than it was worth. Probably should have gotten a truck from Lowes, but I was moving a glass table top and didn't want to risk it falling out of the bed. Getting the van, then returning it was easy. I have no real complaints about the place. Not bad considering U-Haul is the biggest (and probably overall most obnoxious) truck rental service. read more

The absolute worst first they lock me out for only being 2 days left. I'm juggling bills would have had it payed the next day. The general manager Jeffery Picket tells my friend and I don't worth wirry i will fix IT NOTHING FOR A WEEK. My friend went to pay at 5 mins before 7 pm JEFFERY PICKET IS THERE TAKES THE MONEY GIVES ME 24 hr access charges10 dollars. I have two copies of the record stating 24 hours storage plus they advertise it on Internet and they advertise it inside of the stores so I file arbitration a month ago and everything has gotten worse. I called Mr. Shoen because he put on the Internet that he was going to solve problems for people with UHAUL he doesn't do anything for two weeks. I called them again tonight because when I get to my storage I have just an envelope no paper inside of it the general manager right on the inside of the envelope where you lick it and then you see what you see inside that I'm on a restricted in something and I can only access it when he says doesn't sign his name no paperwork never said I was breaking any laws or any storage rules nothing puts his own personal lock on my storage and then leaves so I called Mr. Shoen again he calls him on the phone because my friend and I have been there several times he has walked past us and ignored us I have called and gotten hung up numerous times and then one of the little employees called me back on my telephone to tell me that I had two weeks to move this was three weeks ago . Why did he take my rent then why did he give me 24 hour access so when he comes over to see me tonight he tells me that I had breached contract because I was sneaking in after 10. How am I sneaking in after 10 if I have a receipt in my hands it says I have 24 hour access and I paid the $10. So now he tells me I can only come in limited times 30 minutes and I have to be out by the 17th. Mind you no paperwork no eviction no real reason he breached the contract I did not. If I would've brought breach the contract in Missouri after hours he could've had me arrested but he did not because I did not reach the contract. So then he tells Mr. Shoen that I threatened his employees I'm a 10 year Navy operation desert storm veteran never been arrested for assault public in public intoxication anything in any fight any assault nothing in my entire life I'm 56 years old. These people are unbelievable do not rent from them Mr. Shoen does not care about his customers he straight lied on the Internet because he is not doing anything to solve this they are discriminating against me I think they're homophobic and I am going to call whatever federal agencies that I need to do to sue them because I have a feeling this is not the only time this is happened. This general manager Jeffrey Pickett should right there and told my friend and I how he did not like the cleaner who was making all these problems from the beginning. What kind of management is that. Save yourself trouble do not rent from any U-Haul because they do not care about you as the customer I'm in arbitration so this is complete retaliation and against the law 100% so anybody who reads this if they've had a similar incident with UHAUL please feel free to contact me I'm all for a class action suit because I find it hard to believe that these people at the 500 North Scottsdale Rd. and 800 North McClintock Dr. have not had similar problems. read more
