I do not recommend this business at all. Well my husband has been renting a unit for over 30 years. Today he went in to ask a question and a very unprofessional person simply snapped at him. Sorry you're having a bad day KAREN...but your customer service skills suck. Now we are in the process of emptying the unit out. I rented a spot for my 32 ft utility trailer for many years paying $110 at first and and $150 my August 2025. Several hours after receiving an e-mail with my payment receipt I received a notice to vacate,it seems that after all these years the fire dept. determined created a risk if a firetruck had to be called. I had less than 2 weeks to remove it. I live in Colorado and had know way, or time to arrange for it to be brought up here. I consulted with someone I knew in Az and he managed to find a buyer for trailer for less than it was worth. I lost all the contents from my children's baby pictures to all my furniture and family heirlooms. no reimbursement of any kind was offered. so after many years {and a lot of money} keeping my possessions safe I lost everything. Other than that, they were great - just make sure you have a doable back up plan in place. read more

After hearing back from the manager or whoever runs American self storage and hearing him give excuses for the kind of truck that I received and the condition I received it in. I'm even more upset. That truck was not clean. The cab was filthy as you could see from my pictures it was not clean if it was other peoples trash would not of been inside the truck. I'm very disappointed and I find you guys to be lazy and that includes whoever owns or runs this place that sent me a "I don't care"response to my Yelp review. Because all I heard was excuses. After you talked with the person who took care of me he did the best he could I'm sorry no he did not yes he put stuff in the back of the truck. I have rented U-HAUL's more times than I can count traveling across country, state to state and even in state and The person servicing me always put my stuff in the back of the truck utility dolly and furniture pads etc. I never received a truck or service like I received from American self storage. Apparently you guys don't care what kind of service you gave because now I'm out of state and you don't have to deal with me. Maybe I will contact U-Haul, Google Review etc and let everyone know the kind of services you feel are adequate. Totally unacceptable, the truck I received in the condition I received it, the service I received and then the response from the owner/manager I received after reading my yelp review. Once again anybody in Arizona want to rent a U-Haul I wouldn't rent it from this place. Not if you want decent service and a decent truck. read more

Look past the bad reviews people! This was my first time renting a storage unit (my fiancé sent me since he was working!) The manager, Jenny, is absolutely amazing and made the entire process so simple and very quick! She explained everything in full detail, gave us a brand new lock and keys (that she opened from the package in front of me) and every took me to my storage unit. She is so very willing to help you out whatever the case may be. Jenny is there to help and please and she did just that for us! I know we will be long term customers with American Self Storage and I'll have no problem referring them to everyone I know!! Thanks again. Guys, I'll say it time and time again.. BEST STORAGE and the greatest management here. They let us move into a larger unit at no cost today. They are always willing to work with you and help you anyway they can. I was initially attracted to this storage facility because of the location (8050 E. Main St, Mesa) to where I was temporarily staying but then realized that their advertisement of being "air cooled" didn't mean "air conditioned". In my line of work, I have a product inventory which has to be kept at no higher than room temperature, so I now have products that are no longer good to use because the temperature inside the building during the summer months killed the active ingredients in most of my products. The bigger issue I have though, is that now that I have moved and taken all my belongings out of storage and am completely unpacked, I find that I have A LOT of items missing. I am the one who moved all my belongings with a Uhaul, so there are no movers to blame anything on. I moved everything myself, and NOTHING got left behind. The facility owners provided me with a "free" padlock for my storage unit, which I now believe they had a spare key to...although I'll never be able to prove that, nor can I prove what I had before I stored my belongings there vs what I have now. All I can do now is just warn others to stay away....as I'm not sure that even using your own lock will prevent your items from disappearing. When you have a room full of boxes and other items, there is really no way to know that you have anything missing until it's way too late. There are plenty of other storage facilities in the area. It's worth it to pay a little more to avoid the possibility of your things being stolen from the very facility that you've entrusted to keep them safe and secure. read more

UPDATE: Management contacted me promptly to resolve this situation. Their commitment to providing stellar customer service is obvious. They really do take their customer's concerns seriously and will work with the customer to resolve whatever issues may arise. Problems arise in any business relationship; how it is handled speaks volumes about a business. This is a good sign. I am therefore upgrading my review from 1 star to 5 star - they earned it! PREVIOUS: I signed a lease with American Self Storage in 2015. I had had bad experiences with national chains and routine rate increases. When I explained my experience to the previous managers at AMS upon signing the lease they said they "weren't like that" and that their rate increases were "infrequent" . Well, I am here to tell you their rate increases are no longer infrequent. I got my first increase in 2017 - $7/month. Now, exactly 1 year later to the date, I get another rate increase of $10 per month. If the amenities were also increasing yearly I could understand it but they are not. This is not a good sign. read more

I first got this place when my at the time boyfriend and I were moving into. New place and didn't have enough room for everything. We got the bigger storage unit and while the first year we were paying for storage was good, never ha problems, but then again we never interacted with the staff other than to set up the storage. Come down the road to we were no longer together and we were splitting up the items and I got my own storage at the same place. A smaller "air conditioned" unit. It was an adequate size, however when I went to pay for the storage unit that I reserved online, they didn't have any in that size. Okay, maybe it's an Internet miscommunication error? Not such a big deal- but what really did it for me was when I went to cancel my storage unit. Cancelled the storage unit via email, or so I thought, and to come later find they were still charging me storage fees. I wrote them about it, and nada..so I ended up writing what I believe it the corporate location....found out that they had the wrong address, phone number and email address on file for me. Oh, and for the first few months of trying to sign up online to pay the storage they "couldn't find my account" maybe it's because they put in the gate code that I chose wrong...? Yup. Anyway, I wrote corporate in which j suppose they contact the management at this facility and per copied email..this was my response. "I will try to explain all of your issues as stated in your call, First about the wrong phone number and address: Yes there was an error made when we entered your phone number but not with your address. we copy exactly what you write on the tenant info sheet, which is given to you to fill out at the time of rental. When a payment is missed: We MAIL , E-MAIL, and then Call the tenant to find out why. Second: you claim to have called in March to " cancel " your storage. We do not accept verbal terminations, as per your contract we must have a minimum of 10 day WRITTEN notice. We have a form in the office which is detailed to your unit. Also we have nothing in your file that shows you were planning on leaving. And finally IF you were planning on leaving, then why do you still have your locks on the unit? Until you terminate and remove your locks, that unit still belongs to you and you will be charged for it. Your last payment was made 2/8/16. Your next payment was due on 3/4/16, on 3/14/16 you were charged a late fee. then on 4/4/16 your payment was due and again on 4/14/16 you were charged a late fee and now a lien fee because you are over 60 days late. All of this is done according to the contract you signed." So basically, calling me a liar. I responded in a PROFESSIONAL way as I explained the locks were on it, but I did not have the keys anymore as my last trip was in February and there was NOTHING in my storage unit. I was okay with the poor communication, as I didn't go to the storage or deal with them often. I was okay with the wrong gate code being entered, but I do not and will not accept poor customer service. And to me, that's exactly what they provided. If any at all. Remember you get what you pay for and this place IS cheaper than most, however the poor customer service and lack of responsibility on their end is not worth it. read more
