Great "in-town rates". I rented from them twice; I liked them so much. They have the best customer service and great "in-town" availability. I moved from Seaside to Santa Cruz, and it was much easier to do a round-trip than try to rent one-way (the availability is much less). It was easy to change the return time to later, and someone was there to help me after they closed. After renting online, my strategy is to show up early because often something delays the rental. It could be them or me. The first truck was blocked in, but they quickly moved the other trucks out of the way. The next time I rented, I had a cough, so they were okay with me leaving the truck there for a bit while I left to get a COVID test. (I tested negative, yay!) Always best to err on the side of early. read more

In our area, they seem to be the best: for do it yourself moves. My friend called the day before, showed up at 7am opening and was on the road, by 7:30am. A nice, clean, new Ford van had less than 1000 miles. He was doing an out of town round trip, so cost was more, than a in town move. The weekly rate was the best, so no stress to return quickly. You can leave your car, but I offered to help out. Extra emergency roadside assistance insurance was about $75, if you opt in. Peace of mind is always important and we found it here. read more

All the team here seems like good guys who want to do good work for their customers. They clearly care. We've come here a couple of times to troubleshoot issues with a wired trailer hitch that a different U-HAUL location messed up when they did the install for us. These guys have been knowledgeable, fast, and efficient about figuring out what the issues are. We have closer U-HAULs, but drive well out of our way to come here because we know they'll get the job done. The time has come to say goodbye to Monterey (will come here only for work). A year ago I visited here for truck drop off with no issues. Today the customer service rep helped me with all my questions, including deciding between a 17' or 20' truck. He even let me tour the trucks to get a sense of the space. I also appreciate them working in the systems to make sure reservations can be updated as needed. For any movers out there, this location has a nice stock of supplies, and even $5.00 moving blanket rentals (6 total for $5). I did notice some customers were very rude to employees, but generally, based on my experience if you are respectful, they will return the courtesy. Their trucks actually have both 4-pin and 7-pin for electricity to trailer. Their people were under the impression that it only had a 4-pin connector. A 4 hour rental cost $64. Id use it again. Twice I had reserved a tow dolly. First time I made a reservation 24 hours in advance only to be told upon arrival that they didn't have one for me. No call within the 24 hours to tell me hey, we don't have one for you. The second time, one week later, I made a reservation 72 hours in advance and was told by Fernando, the store manager that I would be able to pick up the tow dolly at 7AM Saturday morning. I show up first thing Saturday morning only to be told by some guy Alfredo claiming to be the store manager that the tow dolly I had reserved 72 hours prior was reserved by someone else. These people working here are a bunch of brain dead jokers. They don't even know who is the real store manager is. read more

This U-Haul is amazing!!! I called at 9:00 AM and of course it was some answering center not the store directly but surprisingly the lady had the address correct for this location and was able to reserve a ten foot box truck for me for 9:15 AM the same day. That blew me away. Due to past experiences at other locations I was pretty certain I would arrive and they would have no idea what that lady said or why she told me what she did. Anyways I showed up late around 9:40 AM and to my surprise they had my reservation and the truck was being pulled out front for me. The employee and I went over the rental which was roughly $20 for 4 hours and $1.90 or thereabouts per mile. I was moving my stuff from Marina Greens Mini Storage in Marina to Extra Space Storage in Monterey less than a block away from this location!! I took the risky route do to the small distance and only making one trip and chose to wave the insurance. We walked around the truck and looked for any damage and he had me double check the fuel level. The only down sides I had was the truck was automatically in Tow Mode every time you turn the truck on and no one really explained what that was or how to turn it off. Not a major deal just something I wish I had known about. Secondly the ten foot box trucks don't have pull out ramps. This is a very nice extra feature to have but we made do. For the price I'm sorry these complaints are miniscule compared to what I got for my money. I paid roughly $48 plus I put a little bit extra fuel in at $10 and I got all my stuff moved in one trip in one day!!! Thank you so much for having this location which is so CONVENIENT and very affordable. I find myself complaining all the time that there is never anything quality and affordable anymore. The world has seemingly turned into money gouging corporations. I'm so thankful that a company like this is more than reasonably priced and makes a stressful situation as easy as it can be. Oh and the employee who helped me said while we were chatting his computer system was slightly buggy due to the new upgrades they did. I think those upgrades did wonders because the last time I called U-Haul they couldn't even find this location and when I called back and got someone else who could find it they said there were no trucks available. I drove by this place and it was packed with trucks so I'm just glad I think they are working their kinks out of their system. Anyways I would recommend giving them a shot if you need a box truck to move. read more

I'm very impressed with the hitch installation on my 2019 Rav-4 hybrid. I was referred to U-Haul by Victory Toyota. They were not able to install the hitch because Toyota didn't carry the needed parts. I was hesitant to go to U-haul, because I honestly didn't even know that they installed hitches there. Alfredo did an amazing job. His years of experience shines through in his professionalism and quality of work. You can not even tell that he took off the panels inside the rear of my car to connect the wires to my light signals. All of the wiring is well hidden and apart from the fact that now I have a hitch you can not even tell that the car was disassembled in some parts for the installation. Let me also mention that this all took only an hour. If you need a hitch installed look no further, and ask for Alfredo. read more

Walked into local Monterey U-Haul on Del Monte to rent a 17 ft box truck. Absolutely horrible so many deep scratches and gouges on both sides everywhere major dents top and bottom where all the aluminum is this one look like he's gone through cross country and to hell and back bents on all sides of the truck except the bumpers the cab inside was the floor was clean except for one bottle of water. But the windshield on the inside and outside were heavily dirty they had never cleaned it they never washed the outside of a cab absolutely filthy radio didn't even work windshield wiper fluid stunk like high hell this was definitely running on a misfired cylinder. When and talked to the manager about it and he was not writing anything down was not typing anything about my serious complaint they don't power wash the trucks anymore they don't bring the trucks out for their customers anymore. they don't offer any discounts anymore they don't care who you are no military discounts no AAA discount no first responder discount. The next time I'm needing a 17 ft box truck I'm going to go with Penske or I'm going to go up to the Bay area pay a bit more and rent a much nicer truck that has working USB ports a working power converter at least the hand truck came with the truck. Truck was almost empty on gas ask them if they're going to fill it they said no it's now my job and I asked them before I ever signed any paperwork they would not give me credit returning the truck with gas in it. read more

They don't even deserve one star. I had an appointment for WEEKS to get a trailer hitch installed and upon arrival they told me they never ordered the parts?! The man at the desk told me I was "S-O-L" and offered no other assistance. I now have to drive 2 hours to another location who has the materials. I'm moving across the country in 4 days so that really screwed me. Luckily there are many other locations with nice and helpful staff- just stay away from this one. read more

I feel lucky to be alive after this! The two employees were distant and gave me zero idea of the responsibilities/challenges associated with driving a U-Haul truck. They could have AT LEAST told me that there's a list of common driving difficulties/precautions written in small-text above the driver's seat! Or that the steering wheel was loose and misaligned! Having to learn the challenges of driving a truck on the fly, WHILE adjusting to the steering wheel during a 9 hour drive was extremely stressful. I acknowledge my inexperience as an issue here, but what's inexcusable is that when we called them to say that it was almost impossible to close the back of the U-haul, they essentially said "yeah the contract says you rented it as is, please don't call again bye." They did nothing to help me troubleshoot it, compromising the safety of all my stored belongings overnight and leaving me to wonder if I'd have to try driving it with a dangerous, jerry-rigged solution. Turns out the loading-ramp was so worn down that it was getting in the way of the closing-mechanism. We had to really FORCE the ramp in to close the truck, a solution we found no thanks to Uhaul. I understand that working a retail-esque job sucks, but driving is a matter of life and death for me AND those I drove alongside. An eye-rolling attitude is not acceptable in this practice read more

Great customer service, LOTS of trucks/cargo vans/ trailers.... I used to go to Pat's in Salinas, but they NEVER pick up the phone, and I needed to know what time they close, as the Uhaul website states he is open 8 am until 12, but website says 11. I wanted to clarify but no one answered to clarify that for me. Their cargo van (which I rented) was surprisingly VERY VERY clean. Rubber mats throughout. This Uhaul has parking, so as you're moving, you can leave your car there, versus at Pat's, you have to have someone drive your vehicle back home. Rodrigo helped me. He had a horrible cough, but he was very nice. Some people are a$$holes when they're sick. He wasn't, so I give this place 5 stars! I would definitely rent from them again. read more

My partner and I had such terrible experiences here while moving up to Santa Cruz! So much unnecessary stress because they screwed up and were not accommodating or even nice about it. She made her reservation over the phone three days in advance & was very clear she needed a 10 foot truck and would only be driving it one way. When we arrived that Sunday they said they had a Cargo van reserved for her, which couldn't be used one-way... so we had drive back to return it. But that meant driving back the next evening because she had work during the day. So they charged her an extra day (the whole thing ended up costing around $250). Not to mention when she rented a truck and dolly from them the week prior they sent her to a different location for the truck and just..didn't give her a dolly. The other location was confused, because they didn't even HAVE dollies and said the Del Monte location should have given us one. read more

Eric at the u-haul store on del monte Ave in Monterey was incredibly patient but beyond that he game-planned out moving strategies with me to to help me find the most cost-efficient method of moving to our new place. He spent a good amount of time talking to me and going over options and because of his immense professional and also compassionate interaction with me, U-haul has a customer for life with us. RUSSEL!!! After reserving a truck and auto trailer. We get the call 24 hours before saying we have to go to Watsonville for the auto trailer which was extremely in convenient and not in our budge as well as moving plans. However after explaining our situation to Russel at Del Monte Uhaul he was very patient with our frustration and listened to our issue and solved it. He also realized we had been charged double for the trailer when we only needed one and Russel took the time to fix the over charge, stayed patient and his willingness to help while others where in line was great. We never felt like he was rushing us along as a number but instead he listened to us as movers and people and helped with everything. Russel deserves the 5 star rating! read more

We rented twice here, a pick up and then a 20 foot truck. The second time was the worst. We were overcharged $142 for supplies. The truck had a tow haul feature that we were not informed about, causing the truck to rev up and burn up gasoline. Our drop off location was moved the day we left, the new location had no storage. We were then told to leave the truck, full of our stuff, at a local WalMart. We were late in moving, returning a rental car, and got nothing from customer service. read more

Great location, and the service was outstanding. I did an early 50 mile move this morning with the Ford Cargo Van. It was brand new with about 940 miles on it, and in beautiful condition. Well if I could put a zero star in a would. I never ding people on Yelp but this was the worse. Let us me recap: Took 10 days to get an appointment for hitch. They never answer the phone- it rolls to call center. Hitch was shipped to location was damaged so we had to come back for second visit. No real "sorry" from people working there. On follow up appointment-, they changed the time vs what they quoted hence two follow up appointments. No confirmation even though I asked for it to be emailed to me. While waiting on install, of the four people in front of us, two had complaints. Not enough people working there to handle work load. The employee working there did not seem to understand how to help people. Do I need to keep going? I think you get it.... read more

No help or interest in helping me or giving me other options, young girl was doodling on paper and talking about plans and wanting to go home and how bored she was when she should have been helping me. No welcome. Not friendly, helpful or knowledgeable. No orientation on how to operate the truck, just a recitation of the rules. No pleasantries on departure. The truck was filthy and in poor condition. The floor was rusted through so you could see the road, the passenger door was also rusted through and the sound of the air rushing through made the uncomfortable cab even more noisy. The truck had lots of rattles and squeaks. The truck was very basic and so uncomfortable, especially for a 9 hour ride for three of us. A terrible first-time experience that will probably be our last with UHaul. Not worth the expense. read more

This is the WORST! I made a reservation to pick up a 20 foot truck on a Tuesday at 10am and was told that I would get a call the night before pick up day telling where I can pick up the truck. Well, I get a text at 6:48pm the day before asking me to confirm a pick up at 3PM the next day. I asked for a morning pick up not a freaking afternoon pick up! It gets worse! When I try to check in, they tell me that they don't have any 20-foot trucks available and that all I could get is a useless 10-footer. If I wanted a 10-footer, I would've reserved a 10-footer. Now, all of my plans are ruined, no truck and I have several movers I hired to help me load tomorrow morning, but... no truck!!!! This is the worst place and business ever. I had it all lined up to load the truck tomorrow but now I have to scramble and figure out how to fix this damn mess. I really hate this business and even if by some miracle they do right by me... and find me a decent truck on Tuesday, they have ruined my evening and only added an immense amount of stress to what is already a stressful experience. read more

I had to move some items that were too many to put in my car so I rented a cargo van, which was super convenient because we could literally walk to the U-Haul rental office to pick it up. Both my husband and I thought the other had got the last load out and that the van was empty when we returned it, but as it turned out we had forgot our patio cushions and some sheets and a blanket. I called first thing the next morning to run back and get my items (items that were important enough for me to rent a van for!!). Nothing. When Uhaul discovered my items, they immediately just threw them in the trash when they cleaned the van!! No one called us to let us know, nor did they hang on to them for a brief 24 hour period in case we realized. Just threw the stuff away. They gave us no opportunity to retrieve our items. My husband had to dumpster dive (I am in customer service... I would ever tell a client to go dumpster dive!) where he found our blanket and sheets but the patio cushions found their way to what I suspect is an employees patio. This particular U-Haul is not about customer service or satisfaction. They did t even apologize. Also the waste generated to the landfill for this type of archaic practice is negligent to the environment. The check in woman was fantastic... after that it's all down hill. Great rental. Very easy to reserve online. Showed up at 7:00 am and was on the road in less than 15 minutes. Truck was clean. Gas tank was full. 228 miles later was able to return it in less than 5 minutes. While I wish it cost less that can be said by pretty much all things today. read more

Terrible experience. I reserved two U boxes a month ago, and when I went to pack them today they told me they didn't have any. No one called me ahead of time to let me know they wouldn't be available. Now I have to pack them next week right after working a 24 hour shift at the hospital. Today was my day off to do this before I move. They even tried to tell me they tried to call me, but then back tracked when I showed them my received calls and that there was not a single call from them. The complete lack of integrity and respect is horrifying. Do not use this company for a move. read more
