This U-Haul location was horrendous. The employees all smelt like weed. The employees were literally moving the speed you would expect when someone smells that strongly of weed. The lady I worked with decided she wasn't going to communicate with me. She didn't answer my questions and several times asked me if I've ever rented a trailer before while I continued to reply, no. Several employees were just sitting in rental vehicles on their phones even though the lobby was full of people trying to rent. Zero sense of urgency amongst the staff. Stood in line for about 20 minutes before being helped. The person helping was very kind but completely incompetent. They gave me the wrong trailer number on my paper work which required 3 trips back inside the building while it was pouring rain. They also forgot my moving blankets that I had already paid for so I had to run inside to grab those as well. Finally when I got home, one of the tires was flat. I am currently sitting in the truck in the pouring rain waiting for roadside assistance. read more

Absolutely horrendous experience. I will be rating across all platforms for their lack of respect and action. My husband and I rented a van from Houston and drove all the way to Katy and the key came out while we were exiting the fwy. We were stalled. Thankfully it started back up again. We called uhual and spoke to Ashton who told us to drive it back even after we said we are all the way in Katy. Imagine if we were on the fwy and not exiting and this happened... we would've been hit. He told us he can call roadside assistance but that's all he could do. My husband and I were forced to drive 45 min back to uhual to drop off a van who's key was malfunctioning and kept falling out on us!! My life and my husbands life were out at risk. Instead of offering us a full refund he issued us money for gas.. because we couldn't stop safely to get it ourselves. I asked to speak to a manager and was told she wouldn't be in for another week and there were no assistant managers... now I have a choice to either take the day off work on Monday to speak to the manager or hope she calls me back and makes this right with a full refund. Before we rented the truck we saw the key would not close in the fob- when we brought this to the attention of the worker who handed it to us he dismissed us saying you're fine. And for future uhual- the RIGHT course of action would've been for my husband and I to go to the nearest Uhaul to switch the vans. It doesn't matter if you're a franchise, you figure it out and not make us drive back in a malfunctioning car risking our lives the whole time. I have no words for the lack of care and respect you've lacked giving us today. read more

Two stars for good hours, and for having what I needed on short notice. Minus three stars for sucky service. I'm very unhappy with "service" from this location. I'm a contractor, and my van was in the shop. I desperately needed a cargo van so I could get to work. None were available at my local branch, so the kind man there (Chris) reserved me a van at the South Main location. I had to Uber over there. I was very disappointed with the staff here. Mumbling, no eye contact, impersonable, and not even sure if he was talking to me, talking to each other while "helping " me. The guy barked at me to take a photo of myself and post it here, take a photo of my driver's license and attach it there, check text messages for a special code, hurry, hurry, hurry. There was no notice, it was difficult to figure out what he wanted, or to know if it was even secure. Lucky he didn't demand something that required a QR code, bc my phone doesn't have that app. And what if I didn't have a cell phone?! Next he barked at me to give names of an alternate contact. Never had a rental place ask this before, but fair question. I wasn't prepared, so I scrambled to think of whom I could list, and to find contact info. Next thing I know, he picked up the phone and HE CALLED MY FRIEND. Mind you, my friend had no idea I was at UHAUL, or needed a van, and, with the guy abruptly shouting questions, she would reasonably think this call was a scam. Besides that, she was a work and not available. She didn't answer. So the UH guy demanded another name. I was frantically trying to text the next friend, to alert him to what the incoming call would be about. But the UH guy beat me to it, and mumblingly commanded my friend to vouch for me. Luckily, my friend answered correctly. I still don't have any idea what UH was wanting to know. Eventually, UH agreed to rent me a van. When I had walked in, I noticed on the lot two Chevy vans and one Ford available. I specifically requested a Chevy, bc that's what my personal vehicle is, and I'm familiar with driving it. After all the previously described mumbling and barking, basically, they handed me a key and kicked me out the door. I stumbled around the lot until I found a vehicle that responded to the key. Turns out they gave me the Ford. It took a lot of rigamarole to get it switched to a Chevy. At least that gal was helpful and friendly. Before you can drive off, there are more shenanigans. Take a photo of this, download it here, wait for a code via text, upload another photo, no idea why they wanted all this, where in cyberspace it was going to, or if it was secure. Nobody there helping. The van itself was clean, spacious, handled nicely, but had horrible shocks absorbers. Signs inside screamed threatening messages - like, YOU DENT IT, YOU PAY. The vehicle had no grills on windows, no security locks, UH written all over the sides, so every thief thinks there's the family jewels inside it. With Houston's crime rate, I didn't feel my tools were safe inside this van. Price the website quotes gets inflated by the time you check out. I tell you, if I hadn't needed the van so desperately, I would have walked off. Adding to the overall negative vibe, in the lot near the storage lockers, there were two gals digging their belongings out of a dumpster. Not sure I understood the whole story correctly, but they said that UH had kicked them out of - either their locker or truck - and shucked their possessions into the dumpster. If I had had more time, I would have jumped in there and helped them. On the positive side, this place has good hours, something like 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Easy drop off. Glad I could get a cargo van on short notice on a weekend. But overall, it was dismal service, too much hassle, questionable security, rude, and I wish I'll never have to interact with this location again. Unfortunately, in Houston, there are not really many alternatives for a work vehicle or moving van. read more

Went to this location today to see about getting a propane tank filled. Went inside and asked if they had propane. The lady working immediately told me that "I needed to go wait in line like everyone else", with no other explanation. Confused I let her know I have never been to uhual to fill propane I had no idea where the line even was, that's why I came in and asked. She belittled be in front of other customers and staff. It was very embarrassing and unwelcoming. I will be giving yall bad reviews over all platforms and will be writing to corporate about the lack of professionalism and customer service I experienced today. This place should be rated below zero. After-hours pickup is the worst--I didn't realize how bad it was until I experienced it myself. I arrived at 9:45 pm and didn't leave until 11:15 pm. Here's why: following the instructions through the app, I opened the lockbox only to find that it contained the wrong truck for my reservation. I tried to contact live support via chat and phone. The live chat responded quickly but didn't resolve anything. Phone support took over an hour to connect me with someone who could help. After all the hassle, all the representative could say about my extreme inconvenience (while I was already on a time crunch, moving out of my apartment) was that he could file a complaint and that they would reach out within 24-72 hours. After hearing that nonsense, I knew customer service wasn't their strong suit and that I should be filing a complaint on the Better Business Bureau website instead. All cons: - Wrong key for the truck in the lockbox - Long wait times with customer service (1 to 1.5 hours) - The truck I was switched to GAS TANK WAS LOCKED! I TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES TO OPEN IT AND IT WAS DIFFICULT AND I WAS CHARGED EXTRA . This is the worst u-haul location in Houston so far! read more

Poor customer service. I had reserved a cargo van and was waiting patiently in line. They were busy. Although I was next in line, one of the associates looked passed me to ask the man behind me what he needed, and if he came to pick up vehicles. The associate did not acknowledge me. Then the associate shouted to the other associates that the man behind me needed 3 vans and was trying to get assistance. The associate assumed that he should address this person immediately because the man might be a repair man. The associate told the others "this guy is here to pick up". Then I said, I'm also here to pick up. Then the associate said, "I know you're next". The associate was short with me, and seemed aggravated that I said something. Then he referred me to the associate next to me to help me and assisted the man behind me. The associate helping me then started answering questions about this person behind me. He was doing this while assisting me. This was very rude. Sensing my displeasure, he said I apologize we're pretty busy". Being busy has nothing to do with making sure to treat each customer with equal respect, and not assisting someone who came later while trying to assist the current customer other than some urgent reason. There was no exceptional circumstance that required this person to be assisted ahead of me, other than he was male and I was not. Then the person helping me was rude..I think because it was clear that I was not pleased with their service or his comment. The store was simply chaotic and not managed well. If I could give ZERO stars I would the amount of hidden fees I was charged for is ridiculous. Ive never used U-Haul except for this one time and they were calling me to return the equipment even though I had already dropped it off! I had the uHaul for two hours and was charged $151 when they documented I had it for two days! Somehow this error didn't affect my cost what so ever but apparently the hidden fees I racked up in the two hours I drove the vehicle came out to $151. If I were you, I'd just Rent a pick up from Home depot. read more

We just completed a 18 hour drive from Phoenix AZ to Houston Texas in a 10' u-Haul truck with a towing auto transport behind it. We had to pick up the two pieces of equipment from two locations and U-Haul made it easy and seamless. They also allowed us to drop off the auto trailer first, so we could then unload the truck. Ivory Colbert the U-Haul representative safely and efficiently unloaded the car and trailer and processed us quickly. When we returned the Vehical we were in and out in 15 minutes. DO NOT GO HERE! They do not honor reservations. When we made our reservation in person, we were told that we could not get it before 10 ( our reservation time) but could any time after. When I called to confirm reservation, I was told we had to be there by 11 or lose our reservation. We arrived at 10:45-10:50. Several people walked in and said they would help us soon. Finally, around 10:59 someone came in and said she would help us soon but she walked around for a few minutes before asking our name. When she finally put our name in the computer it was after 11 (by 2-3 minutes) and she said our reservation was canceled because we were there after 11. She said that she could not rent us another trailer (even though no trailers left while we were waiting). Our reservation was for 48 hours. They could rent us a trailer for 21 hours. The person waiting on us was rude and never apologized for us losing our reservation. Since three people were walking around telling us they would wait on us but didn't until after 11, we felt like they were purposely making us lose our reservation. read more

I have been here twice. The first time we waited 90 minutes in line for a pickup truck. Did our 3 hour rental start then? Nope, our reservation time, hence half wasted in their line. The second time we made a reservation right when they opened at 7am...no line, but no one opened the store until 7:30am. read more

So it's really hard to write a review like this without making things personal (if I go to this location again, I will be happy to further update my review) They were significantly understaffed for the store's opening at 9AM (only one employee for the first hour), so it was extremely slow to just pick up a trailer. Furthermore, the information online regarding how much the trailers can hold was not very helpful. When you say-- "holds studio apartment," I (mistakingly) assumed that the trailer would be able to accommodate one queen sized bed. The box spring fit standing up in the dimensions but just couldn't fit through the doors (literally by 1inch), although the mattress did! It didn't say this online, and neither did the attendant in the store! When we went back to exchange the trailer, the attendant was super unhelpful and clearly frustrated with the lack of help she had (still only 2 employees) so she kept insisting they wouldn't do anything but we were welcome to wait for approximately 40 minutes. Her annoyance was clear though. I don't blame her, I don't have high expectations of uhaul, I just hate how everything had to happen. We were given an older looking trailer, so maybe the door design had changed? I feel like mentioning limits is a courtesy but helpful customer service is a requirement. read more

Ugh Moving. Never fun. But this U-Haul company made getting and dropping off the truck easy! I made the reservation online about 5 days before we wanted the truck. We said we wanted the truck at 1. We were there to get it around 12:30 and they did not make us wait till 1. Both of the workers were very friendly. We did a walk around of the truck with a worker to look for damage. Then he went over how to drop the truck off after hours and we were done. We were there about 10 minutes. The truck was nothing special. We got the 14 foot truck to move an 1100 square foot townhouse into a 880 square foot condo. We mainly moved our furniture and it took two trips. We had a couch, two chairs, a queen bed, a twin bed, two desks, kitchen table and two bookshelves. Our truck was $19.95 plus 70 cents per mile. Since we moved around the corner we went with the smaller truck and two trips instead of a bigger truck and one trip. One thing that would have been nice about the bigger truck would be it is lower so you don't have to lift boxes as high to get them in. Since we were returning after hours we did not need to get the truck back within the 6 hour time limit. So we had the truck for about 9 hours. The only thing with that was the place isn't in the best area so we left as quick as we could. I would use this place again to rent a truck. On a map it looks far away from the Medical Center but its really close! read more

I have rented through uhaul before but this by far was the WORST experience. The rental was fine, but the customer service was terrible by any standards. I have never felt so disrespected by a customer service representative. We show up on a Saturday without a reservation, which wasn't a problem. We rented a nice sized truck for a good price. We told the guy where we were moving to and it's not more than 30 miles away. Guy hands us the keys, tells us to check the gas tank and mileage and write it down. He must have assumed we were going to drop it back off at the same location because that's where the issue starts. A few days later we are charged over $200 because we returned it to another location. Fine. My partner calls to dispute the charge with corporate and they tell him to contact the store directly regarding the charge. He calls the store and explains the situation, and the guys first response is, "so, you have a reservation?" My partner was not happy at this point since he was obviously not being listened to. What made it worse was the fact that the employee told him to "go f- himself" and hung up the phone after he asked for the employee's name and to speak to the manager. Sure, it can be tempting to say that to a customer who may even deserve it. But you NEVER EVER say something like that out loud. read more

Awful customer service. I was returning a one way rental trailer, called the regional office for a return location . Was given this location , and told not worry about what time it was returned. When I arrived I was told it was 2 hrs late, and would be charged another full day . This was bad enough , but they charged me $30 for the day, but my contact was $ 23 a day for the one way rental. There was no manager inside. Nobody could do anything , I called the 800 number, nothing could be done except file a complaint. Someone was supposed to get back to me within a day or so, but still have heard nothing. They would not unhook the trailer until they had charged my card $30. No customer service at all. read more

these guys couldn't be nicer. spent a few very hard days traveling and emptying my son's apt and moving to storage here in Houston in August heat and humidity. our truck and storage rental were smooth and helped make an unpleasant chore a little less lousy. storage is clean, dry and cool and our truck had like 1,700 miles on it and the AC CRANKED! This review is directed more at the whole UHaul experience than this individual retailer, but as the destination point of my move and inability to post a generic review of UHaul, this is where my review will go. I recently moved 1,000 miles from Ohio to Texas and opted to utilize the Ubox as I was moving a relatively small amount of items but more than could fit in my car. I looked at various options for a large box to ship my items in, and this seemed the most seemless and cost-effective, while not giving me more space than I needed (I only used 1 box to move, so some things like PODS would've been too big). There were multiple things that happened along the way that were irritating and hard to resolve in a timely manner. The actual delivery and loading of my box were relatively easy, aside from having to call the UHaul in Ohio to schedule the delivery the day of when they were supposed to call me. The box was in good condition, clean, equipped with furniture pads as promised, and withstood a huge thunderstorm while being situated out on the street in front of the apartment. I first started having issues with the process when my box did not arrive in Texas on time. I had planned movers to unload the day after the box arrived, so when it did not arrive on the scheduled date, that meant I also had to reschedule the movers. I called UHaul multiple times, both the Texas location and corporate to see if they had an estimate of when the box might arrive or if they knew where it was or why it was late and nobody could give me any information. I have seen other reviews that listed similar issues with inability to track the box personally listed as an issue which I thought were unfounded at first, but if the company can't even tell me where the box is or when it might arrive, I have more issues. I ultimately had to reschedule the movers 2 more times and didn't get my items until 3 days later than planned. I initially thought "there is a guaranteed delivery date and they promise a refund if this guarantee is not met, so that's some consolation". Well, despite my box arriving 2 days after the guaranteed date, I got no refund. The excuse was that the boxes shipped later than scheduled, so the actual transit time from Ohio to Texas was still within the guaranteed time frame. To be honest I didn't push too much because my expenses were being reimbursed by my employer, but still a disappointment that their guarantee is false. Finally, I had a lot of issues with billing in general. The original quote that was generated and my order confirmation had amounts listed which were less than what I was ultimately charged. I never received a formal receipt at any stage of the process to see where the additional charges (mostly tax) came from. When I first called to inquire I gave them all my information and question (including the lack of money-back guaranteed delivery) and was told I would receive a call 4 days later which never happened. I spent a lot of time on the phone with somebody to explain to me the costs and ultimately email me a copy of each actual receipt detailing the various fees. Each step of the process is a separate receipt/bill/order number though because the fees are directed to certain people (one bill for delivery in Ohio, one for shipping to Texas, one for rental in Texas, one for movers). Ultimately, I spent way too much time on the phone to get no information or information that should be available to me as a customer easily online or at the various steps in the process. They need a more centralized approach to billing and shipping that allows either the customer or any person that works for Uhaul, corporate or local dealers, to look up order receipts and have a way to track where vehicles/trucks are. I've used UHaul for almost all of the moves in my life, and have never really had a problem. However, if I choose to use the box method in the future, I will not be using UHaul and will be looking at the other methods such as Pods for my move. read more
