Not wanting to be rude, I pointed to my heel because she had not pumiced/soaped my heel and was draining the water Will you be doing the full pedicure? She touched my heels, smiled and looked at me. I placed my left foot on my right knee and I rubbed my heels, "my heel, will you be doing that?" This lady tapped the towel indicating I should put my foot down and proceed to slather oil on my feet and legs one at a time (followed by lotion). Dumbfounded and speechless, I sat watching this lady put lubrication on my un-pedicured feet. Note: I did speak to the young lady realtime about this issue (in front of this lady) very calmly. She said English is not her primary language; however, it's clear she also does not know who to do a pedicure. The lady also gave me names of other persons to asks for in the future but I will walk on my hands before I ever return to this place.

There was no acknowledgement by any of the staff upon my entry but a cacophony of "Hellos", "How are you"s and "What service can we offer" when a woman devoid of melanin entered at 11:20...Hmmm. The greeting was noticeably skewed and I noted at that point every customer save one, embodied the various shades of the African Diaspora including the only waiting patron, sitting with me at the lobby entrance. She called out to the manager/owner with whom she seemed familiar, and told her that I had an appointment and no one had spoken to me since I arrived. The manager/owner rushed over... asked what I was having done...never requested my name nor consulted her appointment book...I'm sure the conversations by phone were only lip service to get me to their door...SMH with disgust. I was walked over to a pedicure chair and I turned on a manual massage setting to relax and lower my blood pressure. An older gentleman came over and switched my massage mode to a higher setting without my request or consent, then started to place the liner in the foot-bath with no dialogue nor consideration for my comfort level. He indicated that I should test the water temp and place my feet in the filled unit then walked away. After 10 minutes I removed my feet as no one was headed my way to begin the treatments. 20 minutes later I noticed that the person who had entered after me with the fanfare was being attended to, without a prior appointment, plus someone who had come in after me seemed scheduled to be next and my query re when I would be seen did not bear a response that was intelligible. I asked for a towel to dry my feet thoroughly and left. Never to return. Do not give your time and hard earned money to those who do not value you. There are too many places from which to choose that provide decent, respectful courtesy to allow disregard to reign.

I opted for an old school French tip. Came out beautiful, but it started to chip the next day. I finally decided to face the music and walked into Awesome Nails on a chill Sunday afternoon. Y'all... I got the CBD Volcano Pedicure with Hot Stone, Paraffin Wax, and Gel, and let me tell you -- I walked in with hooves and walked out with feet fit for royalty. The amazing tech listened when I pleaded, "Please, no cheese grater... let's show my crust a little respect." She softened my feet with callus remover, gently pumiced, scrubbed, masked, and even rubbed an orange slice into each leg like I was at some tropical resort. The hot paraffin wax wrap? Bliss. I basically ascended to a higher plane of foot existence. I was so impressed, I asked for a manicure too. I warned her my hands were just as tragic, but she worked her magic -- scrubs, masks, more orange slices (I swear I left smelling like a spa smoothie). But the real MVP moment? After hearing that I've been a full-time mom to a medically complex kid and haven't had a moment for self-care in 5+ years, she surprised me with the same gorgeous cat's eye iridescent gel polish I was admiring on her nails -- as a gift, from one mom to another.
