I've been to the Two Stones Pub at Chesmar Square 4X now. The last time I was here the burger was not cooked as requested. I did really like the burgers, but it's not worth coming into a place that cannot even consistently cook a burger in the off rush periods.
The servers are some of the most helpful, polite and thoughtful people working a difficult job. They can answer questions and take care of their tables. The server staff is probably the best part of Two Stones Pub, because the food is very uneven.
The much touted Foie Gras Burger, which I've had twice, is a good burger. It has a nice balance of meat to fat and a good mouth feel. The foie gras, on the other hand, is not always sent out properly. I had to send that back for coming out perched cold on my burger. The tomatoes are a pale shade of supermarket pink. The pickle that is served is outstanding, both in taste and size.
The Kennett Square PEI Mussels are large and tasty. Unfortunately, the too large serving of broth was full of Madeira that was not cooked out long enough. The menu states, shiitake, cremini and oyster mushrooms and onion and herbs. There was one slice of shiitake, two slices of cremini and no oyster mushrooms in mine. The red onions seemed undercooked, maybe that was intended: it didn't work for me. The two sliced pieces of bread were totally inadequate if there had been half as much broth in the bowl.
The Duck Leg Confit was a total waste. An overly salty, dried out, stringy duck leg was what I got. The fried goat cheese polenta needs a change of goat cheese. The current choice is harsh and adds nothing to the polenta cake. The fig mole is overwhelmed by bitterness. Cute, fresh micro greens.
The 2SP Fish & Chips was excellent when I first tried it. The tempura batter was crisp and not greasy and the fish was cooked properly. The coleslaw was on the raw side. It needed to stand longer to get the dressing to sink into it.
This being said the Crispy Fish Tacos were disappointing. The fish was greasy, which leads me to believe that the fryer temperature was a wee bit lower than it should have been, possibly because of the demand on the fryer baskets. The chipotle sauce was oily tasting and the alternative sauces were nothing to write about. The pico is missing any acidity or flavour which is not helped by the pink, supermarket tomatoes.
The Truffled Fry Pile was so loaded with Parmesan cheese that it was dry and inedible. But the sweet potato fries were lovely, with a wonderful crisp to them.
The 2SP Stacked Nachos is large enough for three good appetites to dig into. Served on a baking pan, the pulled pork is wonderful, though a bit too spicy if you really want to taste anything else after eating it. The chorizo is lost to the taste of the pork. The pico appears again here and is just as tasteless. The crema is tasteless due to the spicier elements, and the tortilla chips are a bit too thin to support their use.
If you want excellent service this is the place to come to. The music choices on the two different house systems is very good too. read more
