You ever have one of those days when you're on vacation--everyone is hungry--and moody and you just want food quick? Well that was my situation when we came upon two roads. All of the restaurants were crazy crowded and we needed food fast--we waited too long and didn't plan dinner and the entire group was crazy hangry. So we found this place. I didn't expect much when we walked in because it was in the corner of a shopping center and wasn't busy. Boy was I wrong. $4 cocktail specials!! Gourmet burgers! Great wait staff! Kid friendly! Fast service! Great atmosphere! Super accommodating! This place was fantastic! I cannot say enough good stuff about it. Highly recommend for a casual evening. We agree with others - Don't let the strip center location fool you. This is not to be missed! The Hangover Burger was a dream come true, all of the components worked so well together! Whether you are living on the Outer Banks or just visiting you're aware we do not have a Chick-fil-A and we don't need one because we have a Two Roads Tavern PICKLE brine chicken sandwich that's better as an option on our beach! Tucked inside a decent sized shopping center, is TRT. I had a college buddy that was down the same week as me, so we decided to meet for lunch and this place was on my radar, thanks to Yelp. We arrived at 11:30 on Thursday, just as they opened and we grabbed a table for 8 and waited a short while for our other party to arrive. Our server was nice to start, but feel like he grew tired of watching us all catch up and take our time on ordering, but the place was not filling up, so he could have been a bit more patient and let us enjoy lunch without rushing. Salads with protein were a big hit for many of us. I enjoyed the brined chicken sandwich. As with many places, these sandwiches are now thigh meat to keep the costs down, so a bit tough to chew thru some of those bites, but still a tasty sandwich. Cole slaw was a hit for me. Draft list was decent. Always nice to see local beers being served. A bit off the beaten path and once inside, you don't really feel like you're at the beach, so not expecting to return when we are back to the area based on this alone. Trapped by a rainstorm and restaurants were full up for a late lunch, but luckily we found the Two Roads Tavern. We nabbed the last table and enjoyed some beers (from the NC Triad--Foothills Torch Pilsner and Red Oak Hummin' Bird). The pickle brine chicken sandwich was excellent, so were the onion rings. It's okay. Don't order the Outer Banks Style oysters. For $29, that was a pathetically disappointing appetizer. The oysters are small, so they bake a lot of topping in there to make them look more robust; however, once you bite into one, the illusion disappears. The prices aren't on the actual menu for the oysters, there's a little side thing tucked under the salt and pepper they don't mention that will pre-inform you of the poor financial decision you're about to make-- I wish I'd seen it beforehand. My $13 tuna sandwich on the other hand was pretty good. They have decent ranch dressing and homemade fries. It's a small spot in a little shopping center that is clean on the inside with polite staff. I'd go back, but I would go for bar food, not seafood. $29 on a dozen oysters goes a lot farther at most of the other raw bars in the area. Unfortunately, this $70 check was the icing on the cake for my Outer Banks dining experiences. This is the third place we've been to in two days and the third experience I felt wasn't worth the money. My wife and I eat out a lot because we don't drink, so there's not much to do except lay around at the beach and try new restaurants. We'll be at Subway for the rest of the week. Went here for lunch on our first full day in OBX...food was decent but nothing worth going back for. My husband got oysters and he said they werent cleaned or shucked properly. It also took 45 min to get our apps. The waitress finally let us know they were having issues after we waited 30 min. Yelp has never let me down! The 4.5 stars are well deserved. WOW! Best Burger I have had in a LONG TIME! David Means did not lie when he recommended we try this place! Gary and I had an awesome meal! Our server Bobbi was the BEST! She was very knowledge about the menu and made great suggestions! The Oysters really surprised Gary as he had never had them that way! He got the Oysters Kill Devil Hills! Over our two nights of dinners here we tried the Brie burger which was excellent, the fried chicken sandwich which was fantastic, the shrimp Poboy, amazing, and the kids dinners were good as well. At the top of the specials menu board, was listed boneless wings. It was listed with all other daily specials that included a side. Boneless wings are not part of the appetizer menu. There were only 11 bite sized pieces in the basket. To put this into perspective, my coworker got a chicken sandwhich with fries and a side sauce and his bill was only .55 cents more than mine at 14.01. Really disappointed that it wasn't mentioned when ordering that a side was not included. I didn't ask as it was not on the app menu and therefore I assumed the special was going to include a side of fries as all other specials did as well as the sandwhich menu. So when there are only crumbs left on your plate... that's a 5 star rating... the shrimp was fried to perfection, plump and breaded delicately. But the star of my plate? The green beans... cooked on a flat griddle with garlic oil.. fabulous. My husband had a burger cooked to order.....and fries freshly cut, fried and seasoned perfectly. Only crumbs on his plate too. I think Two Roads is really 4.5 star place, but I'm rounding up because its probably one of the best burger pubs in OBX that isn't a tourist trap with mediocre food. Two Roads has a semi-small dining room, but we had no issues getting a seat for party of 6. There's also a decent sized bar area to sit in. Service was great, and food was delicious. Cheese curds appetizer was amazing! The dipping sauce was sooo delicious I was hooked. We also had the tuna bites appetizer, which was also amazing too! The tuna was large chunks of rare tuna, cooked perfectly, and served with a yummy creamy dipping sauce. This was a big hit at our table. We all got different types of burgers. My black bean & corn burger was amazing! I added pimento cheese which gave it a yummy topping. We ordered a few other burgers which I didn't try, but everyone else at my table seemed to love their food. Beers were good. Also there was a delicious spicy ginger cocktail that was delicious. As we live nearby, TRT is a favorite of our house when company is in town. We had a smaller group this time of only 4, so we were seated quickly. This time we were seated in the far back corner booth with a great view of the big screen TVs. I opted for the grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad instead of the house cut fries. The others in the group ordered "build your own" burger with fries, the burger special of the night with grilled mushrooms and my husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. All four meals were excellent and reduced our table to utter silence as we happily grazed for the next 15 minutes. Our waitress was so very attentive, checking in every so often to replace near empty beers with cold ones. We really appreciated her watching our table and not needing to flag her down once! Yummy! Ok best place we have had on OBX. Really had some stinkers then came upon this joint. Doesn't look like much from the outside as it's in a strip mall, but what it lacks in appearance it more than makes up for it on the inside with its decor and excellent food. The cheeseburgers were awesome. The fries are hand cut and delicious. We had two orders of the cheesecurds yeah they are that good, we are from Wisconsin trust us, we know what we are talking about. Unexpected gem! Decided to try this place after seeing good reviews. With a group of 3 other women, usually someone is less than thrilled. Looking for a place in OBX after several disappointing places. Figured we would give this a try based on the yelp reviews. I have to say this is a hidden jem. To start we got the fried cheese curd app and the oysters nags head. I know this isn't much but best fired cheese curds we've had hands down. The oysters nags heads were absolutely awesome. I could have ate 2 dozen of them easy before my meal. For dinner I got the shrimp po boy and the wife got a burger. My shrimp was cooked perfect and the whole sandwich with the sauce just worked great. My wife said her burger was great. Cooked just the way she asked for it.
