Well, one bite was all it took for her to completely understand my reaction! The oysters tasted as though they had been sitting under a warmer for an extended period. They were absolutely detestable. Our waitress graciously removed them. At that point, I was seriously considering getting up and leaving. However, we decided to give the restaurant another opportunity to redeem itself with our entrées. Unfortunately, things only got worse. We both ordered the seafood pasta, hoping for a much better experience. To our disbelief, the first bite was another disappointment. I simply could not continue eating it, and my wife felt exactly the same way. Once again, our waitress apologized and took the food away. By this point, I was beyond frustrated. I told the waitress, "You know what? Just bring us the Uptowner Quesadillas, and we'll call it a night." In my mind, I was thinking, Surely they can't mess up quesadillas! Thankfully, the quesadillas turned out okay, but by then, the entire dining experience had already been ruined. What makes this especially disappointing is that I am not someone who typically complains about restaurant food. My wife and I enjoy dining out, and we understand that every restaurant can have an off night. But to have two completely different dishes served that were so unpleasant neither of us could eat them is simply unacceptable. It just so happens that I was in New Orleans a few months ago and partook of same at that time. So this will be a direct comparison to Felix's. I started with the gumbo and the oysters were served while I was about halfway through the bowl. The gumbo was pretty good and I would definitely get it again. The oysters were super hot and I actually had to wait a few moments before starting in on them. The chargrilled oysters were very good and if I had not had them in New Orleans I would have been most pleased. Of course, these were not as good as Felix's. But if you are staying at the Hilton, you absolutely need to walk over to Drago's. Check the portrait of Drago in the entryway ( he passed a few years ago).
