Formerly West Winds, Pop's Place is a casual local family owned roadside restaurant serving…read morebreakfast (all day), lunch and dinner, which is located in Preston Hollow (Southwest Albany County) along NY Route 145 between Catskill and Cobleskill. The full service dining area has seating for up to approximately 48 people including hard booths, table seating and seats up at the counter. The walls are decorated with various old framed photos, wooden signs, pennant, and posters. They also offer takeout, sell newspapers, and cooler items. The breakfast menu includes pancakes, waffles, French toast, eggs, omelets, breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast sides. The lunch menu includes burgers (with hand cut fries), hot & cold sandwiches (with chips & pickle), salads, soup, seafood baskets (fried shrimp-fried clams), and fried foods (hand cut fries, onion rings, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms), and desserts (pies & cakes). The prices here seem reasonable, most items under $10. Pizzas, calzones, and wings are also offered on Thursday-Sunday nights. Specials are posted on the board and dinner offerings on their Facebook page. I stopped in at Pop's Place for lunch while driving through the Hill Towns of Albany County. I sat myself at a booth upon entering. I was greeted by the owner Heath and given a menu to look over and offered a drink. I quickly decided to order the special, which was Pastrami on Marble Rye ($8 plus tax) served with chips and dill pickle. I was offered to upgrade to hand cut fries for $1.50 more, but I was all set with the standard potato chips. The food was made to order by Amy (owner) in the open kitchen area and served nice and hot. The grilled pastrami sandwich had tender slices (not greasy) of lean pastrami, layered with melted Swiss cheese, and spicy mustard dressing between soft grilled marble rye bread. The ruffled potato chips (salted) were standard. After I finished my lunch, I was asked if I wanted anything else, but I was all set and needed to be back on the road. The grilled pastrami sandwich was very good, just what I needed for good lunch. The service was prompt and friendly. NOTE: Cell reception is nonexistent here.
