Pulled Pork Sandwich - Take Out

Excellent bar and restaurant in a very convenient area. This place has a secret Puerto Rican menu and I have to tell you the food was delectable. They serve very large portions, my wife and I both got the pork served with rice, potato salad and plantains. This is a must try restaurant that gives great value for your hard earned dollar.

Good food at a good price. Being a bar I wasn't expecting much when I order Mac N Cheese, but this was so good and fancier than expected.

My attempt at getting a pic of the cauliflower steak burger...it was a beast! Yay!

At first glance this restaurant looks like another typical sports bar, but looks are deceiving. It's a relaxed, family friendly bar atmosphere which I am seeing more of these days. We were immediately waited on by Erica O. She was sweet and courteous. The menu is refreshingly different from the usual pub fare, in that they have a cool $2 menu of tasty sliders and other apps. I started off with a Mexican mule made with some kinda cinnamon tequila. It was different but good. Then my hubby ordered a Cuban slider and a black and blue slider. I ordered the fried pickles. All 3 were just $2 each (what a deal) and really tasty. The Cuban slider did have a bit too much sauce on it, though. For our dinners we had the Classic burger with sage fries and the cauliflower steak burger with onion rings. It's really exciting for me as a vegetarian that there are items on the menu that I can eat other than the typical lousy black bean burger! Both burgers were tasty, but I found the sun-dried tomato aioli to be a bit too greasy for my liking on the cauliflower burger. I look forward to my next visit to Two Bucks so I can explore more of their interesting menu. Worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood.

A cold classic IPA and cloud fuel.

Girl behind bar was very friendly. Burger was good but well done - not medium well. Note to self medium next time. Fries were very good hot and fresh.

Food and service were outstanding. I had the Caprese Flatbread and Mom had the grilled cheese and bacon- cheddar with Pepperjack and tomato on sourdough with garlic fries- yum! High quality, generous servings, fair price.

Service is inconsistent. Tiffany is awful. Food is good. Bar atmosphere. It could be a good place but it needs better leadership.

"Hook and Hoof" has been in downtown Willoughby for quite a while so they must be doing something right. And the fact that there aren't that many high level dining establishments in the Willoughby area helps. The first thing I noticed was the facility is very narrow which lends to a crowded feel. And all you need is one overly boisterous table (which was right next to us) and the noise level can be overwhelming. The server we had for the evening was very pleasant. She did a good job being timely with everything. But, it was odd that she often did not listen to an entire request (or maybe just couldn't hear) before walking away. There were a couple of requests for simple standard items that she wasn't even sure they had. I just found it odd. The food however was excellent. The kitchen staff did an exemplary job all night. I had a marvelous cocktail from the well stocked bar. And my double cut pork chop was fantastic. So full of flavor, juicy, cooked exactly as I requested. The sides that accompanied it were just tender enough without being mushy. And my banana cream pie was great. Overall, I give "Hook and Hoof" a solid 4. I definitely can see us going back. They deserve another try. You should give them a try and see for yourself.

The prices were astronomical so my daughter and I just ordered meatballs and potato wedges. I really wanted fish but there was only ONE fish dish on the menu and I didn't like how it was going to be prepared. There's a big disclaimer at the bottom of the menu that says "no substitutions or modifications". Geez, for a $40 fish plate you couldn't have modified it for me?? The meatballs were good, but came out luke warm. The wedges were good. The atmosphere was nice. For 3 meatballs, 5 potato wedges, and a 15% tip (she lost 5% due to not asking us for drinks) our bill came to $45. I *wish* I was joking. We won't be back. I honestly feel like I just got ripped off.

Inside is a busy dining room with roughhewn decor, lots of light wood and plenty of fish items. The open kitchen takes up one wall with counter seating, then some 2 person booths and a step up to bigger booths with menu chalkboards. The menu is divided between breakfast and lunch/dinner. Fairly classic diner menu with the significant difference of steelhead trout as a protein option. I ordered the seafood chowder and the steelhead hash. The soup came out in a minute or two, a very nicely presented small bowl of thick chowder stuffed with shrimp, fish and seafood, nicely seasoned and topped with some green onions. The chowder was delicious and very hearty. The hash was out a couple of minutes later, a plate loaded with diced potatoes, onions, peppers and pieces of steelhead trout topped with 3 over medium eggs and sided with 2 homemade biscuits. The hash was very nice, although if I get it again I would ask them to crisp up the potatoes, the trout works nicely as it is a mild fish with just enough flavor to stand up to the hash, the eggs were tasty and the biscuits were excellent. Overall a delicious and satisfying dish. Chagrin River Diner is a real find, it serves upscale diner food in a comfortable environment at reasonable prices. Service was great, the atmosphere is unique for the area, this place would feel right at home in a Rocky Mountain resort town. I will be back to Chagrin River Diner and try some of the other menu items.
