I have been going to Nikki at Hairitics since 2020 and I cannot recommend a more chill and up front place to get a haircut in Logan Square. If you're a dude and don't want to go a hyper-masculine barber shop where they will talk trash and pretend it's the 50's this spot is worth checking out. The prices are fair and I've always gotten great haircuts here (short and long haircuts). The best part is that, not only do I get good haircuts but also info on how to take care of my hair properly too ( when I grew out my hair Nikki suggested different dandruff shampoos, good types of hair ties, long hair maintenance, etc). My son who is 14 years of age is accompanied by his mother in attempt to get his hair dyed - perfectly ok on the surface - behind the scenes as his father I have already informed him and his mother that I did not approve. Without my consent my son is in the chair in the process of having his hair dyed - behind my back essentially - I figure out what is happening in the middle of the service and I call the salon to inform them of my concern. I inform them that this service has not been approved by me and should not continue. The salon owner dismisses my concern and decides not to take the step toward doing the right thing. Legally were they obligated to terminate the service - no - but again as a business owner you have some sort of moral obligation to do what's right. In no situation would I feel compelled to complete a service or sell a product to a minor without full consent from their parents and would be especially adamant about not moving forward if there was any push back from either parent. So Taylor Hair Dezign lacks the moral compass I deem adequate - therefore they are being criticized with a less than positive review. I prefer to do business with people and businesses that lean on the side or right.

This time around i had one of the worst experiences there. I've grown my hair long because I'm…read moregetting married soon but because i get to wash it in different places during the week, with different water sources and pressure ( because of work) i'm using dandruff shampoo which apparently dried my hair. I had an appointment with Nadia for a haircut and style, i usually just get it straightened out. I had washed my hair about an hour before my appointment so when she asked me if i needed my hair washed i said no. She proceeded to blow dry my hair and started talking with one of her colleagues. Mid blow drying she just asks me what shampoo i'm using. I told her it's for dandruff and keeps talking to her colleague in third native tongue and this time i noticed they were pointing at my hair and i could see her getting frustrated. When she was done blow drying I asked her why did she asked me about the shampoo and she told me i need to use another shampoo because the dandruff ones hake chemicals and damage the hair. Mind you, while she noticed my hair was not very healthy proceeded to blow dry it without adding any product. The she proceeded to straighten it again without adding any product to protect it. She rushed the straightening and did large strands of hair. When she looked like she was done and asked me if it was good i pointed out at some parts of hair that were not properly straightened but were covered by the top layer hair. She had parted my hair in the middle, I don't do that, and when i said I don't like it like that and tried to part my hair differently she got frustrated with me. And that will be my last time using their services. It's disappointing that she's a hairstylist and she doesn't know how to take care of damaged hair and doesn't know how to make care recommendations ( in all fairness i never asked her what products to use because when she considered she was done with my hair si simply went away and another person took my pay and only came back as i was leaving). I wasn't rude, i even tipped her. When i got home i discovered another part of the hair that wasn't straightened. Oh well, never again!

I originally started coming to Marin for my colorist Michelle DiGiovanni. I didn't start coloring my hair until my late 30s because I always thought it was too high maintenance and would be damaging to my hair. But, I went through a mini mid-life crisis where I wanted to dye my hair pink and thankfully I listened to Michelle when she said "maybe let's try to ease in with a balayage first." And many years later my appointments with Michelle are one of the few things I religiously make sure I keep as part of my self-care. She has always done an amazing job adding depth and dimension to my hair that feels natural. It also ages well and I never feel it looks "bad" even when I'm due for a gloss. It just wears in and makes such a huge difference for me in feeling put together. Michelle is just also a great person who is always fun to catch up with and a cat lover to boot! (Which is definitely a plus in my book) Michelle also introduced me to my stylist Bria Salvador-French who I've been seeing now for the last year. Bria came highly recommended as she cuts Michelle's hair (which always looks amazing). From my first appointment I knew I was in good hands. She taught me so many new things on how to do my hair in a low maintenance way. And most of all, she listened and really made me feel cared for as a woman and as a person. Something that I realize in hindsight I was missing previously. Her skills and craft speak for themselves but the extra care is what sets her apart. I was greeted by Sara, the owner, who said she would be doing my eyebrows. Right after I sat down, she immediately commented that my eyebrows were "zig-zagged" and told me I needed to stop overplucking. That honestly caught me off guard, because I've been intentionally growing my brows out for over a month and have been threading elsewhere every 2-3 weeks. My brows have gotten a bit thin, yes, but I wasn't expecting such a blunt critique right away. When I explained this to her, she seemed shocked and didn't really believe me. She did explain her process and suggested tinting since my brows are sparse, which I agreed to. She threaded my brows, applied the tint, and explained that I should let them grow for 4-5 weeks before coming back so they don't look as sparse. From a distance, they looked okay, though it was hard to really tell with the small mirror provided. What really disappointed me was the pricing. There's a sign posted that says eyebrows are $10 and tinting is $15. When I was charged $38, I was very taken aback. Sara said she hadn't updated her sign since 2010, but that wasn't communicated beforehand, and I felt blindsided at checkout. Overall, while the service itself was fine, the lack of clear pricing and the way the consultation started made me uncomfortable. I personally don't think I'll be returning, mainly because I felt overcharged and not properly informed upfront.

I'd been going to this extra-expensive, snobby salon in the Loop, close to my job. Now I work in Logan, and on a whim, I canceled my appointment at the old salon and made one at Doll Heads. I found out about this shop from an article talking about how they just opened amidst the pandemic. Honestly, the photos of their shampoo chairs was a big factor in my decision to try them out. As soon as I walked in, a David Bowie song welcomed me into the salon, which was adorned with INCREDIBLY cute and colorful decorations. At first glance, the entire place was cheery, adorable, and CLEAN. My appointment was with one of the owners, Kemberly. She was super friendly and made me feel totally welcome in the shop. It was such a pleasant customer service experience. I got my hair shampooed and my eyebrows waxed all at once, which was really convenient. As for the cut, she chopped off five inches of my lanky quarantine locks, framed my face, and gave me layers to die for. She blow-dryed it at the end and gave me some beautiful, bouncy waves. I was SO beyond satisfied, and I'm absolutely sure that this will be my forever salon.
