I have seen this place in a show and I have heard good things about it but to be honest it was not what I expected. What you find here is very very rude security people, overpriced drinks, they were cleaning the bathroom just when they had the place crowded and no other restrooms opened. Was kicked out for being "too drunk" and sleeping when I wasn't. They wouldn't let me talk to a manager or let me back in. What an amazing place. It's honestly not fair that I got kicked out when my friends had more drinks than me. Love that for me. Never coming back to this place again. It's nice to have a place that doesn't charge a cover, especially one with multiple bars that offer multiple experiences. The three bars we went to were each solid and we were promptly served by nice people, even when it got more crowded. The back patio and bar area were especially fun. read more

Had such a fun time here with friends. The bar expands across a variety of rooms with a couple different dance floors. There are also a lot of bars so you typically aren't waiting too long. Be careful with your cell phone- many people get theirs stolen. Keep it in your hand or front pocket! Got my wallet stolen, now going through a whole identity theft, I'm sure the staff is in on it it's all way too organized. We were having a HORRIBLE night and were just walking towards our hotel. Finally, we were walking past this bar (or we thought it was a bar) and I wanted to buy my friend one last shot since it was the last night of our trip. The two bouncers at the door paid us no attention (surprisingly) and I had to ask them if the place was a bar. In an unfriendly tone, he told me it was a club and then just turned back and talked to the other dude. I'm like, "what's the cover?"... and he looked at me like I was crazy and probably wondered what interest I had in this place. Finally, he muttered "there's no cover". I was sort of baffled at the fact that he didn't even seem like he wanted us there, so being the curious soul that I am, I wiggled my way into the club with my friends. SAUSAGE FEST! At the first bar near the entrance, a guy stopped us and offered to buy us all a shot. OKAY... why not? He later told us that he is the manager and then continued telling us more about the place. Turns out that it was a club with 7 rooms... a gay club, that is. I've never been to a gay club, but I LOVE my gays! He then gave us a tour of the place and one of the rooms had a manlady and her/his name was PussyLa! WTF! How clever! (sounds like Priscilla, get it?) She/He made an announcement on the microphone that it was my friend's Bachelorette Party! Everyone cheered and from then on out, everyone in the place made my BFF feel special, and that was what was lacking earlier that night. Oh man... we had such a blast! Everyone was super friendly... a little too friendly at times! (One lady was dancing with me and started to pull up my dress a little. I was like, "Please don't do that, I am wearing SPANX!" She asked me what SPANX were and I told her that its a tummy tucking underwear because I ate a bit too much earlier on the trip. Few minutes later, she asked if she can touch my SPANX! LOL... how flattering, but I'm a married woman! :P) Anyway, I love the place and its officially my favorite club in Miami! Twenty thumbs up! read more

We had so much fun here! Not glamorous or upscale by any means, but just fun. It's a huge place (no cover when we were there on a Wednesday) and we stayed upstairs the whole time. Lots of good hip hip and booty-shaking music. I believe the other rooms play different types of music as well. The place is full of eye candy, including bartenders and patrons. Drinks are cheap (for Miami, anyway), I paid $30 for 5 shots, and the bartender insisted on making himself one to drink with us too. Everyone who works here, even the bouncers, just have friendly, fun attitudes that spread to all party-goers. Like another reviewer said, it may not be the place for you if you're not really down with debauchery or skin-showing. read more

Though I'm far from being a regular, I have been stopping by Twist for over 20 years. The one thing about it is that I never seem to know what to expect, not only when I arrive but when, who or what I may end up leaving with. It definitely depends upon the hours and the days. Late weekday afternoons, there isn't much to the place; basically professional drinkers, some doing shots and others engaged in typical bar room talk. On certain nights and weekends, the upstairs opens with wall to wall body slamming done with a sort of semi drunken Lambada rhythm and on Sunday afternoons the back part is generally open, filled with a gregarious fun loving crowd along with some of the perfect gym bunny bodied males (the place is gay) dancers on display, being the type for which South Beach is famous. Though there are older gay bars in Miami, Twist is basically the reliable standard bearer of the gay bar scene. The Alibi of Miami, so to speak with no offense meant from me, a Lauderdalian. Indeed, when in Miami it's one of my two favorites, the other being the Palace. read more

Like most places on South Beach, everything feels like a scam, so don't be afraid to ask for the price of your drink before you place that order. Pay cash, but don't flaunt your money, The bathroom is disgusting however it does comes with an attendant who guards the sink and you must tip if you want to wash your hands, when I was in there no one person washed their hands. Not one guy. I weaseled my way around the attendant, like playing defense in Basketball, I washed my hands and was charged $1.00 so after touching money I wasted to wash my hands again, he asked me for another dollar, I suspect this would have gone all night long. lolz The entire place smells like an ashtray and has breeze of something stale or ripe. We popped in here for maybe an hour, tops, but that was more than enough to get an overall vibe of the place, even if it was early and relatively dead by their standards. Alex and Andy were good friends with one of the promoters, and since we were out celebrating her birthday as well as her going away party we pretty much drank for free the whole time. There was a good bit packed into such a short amount. Hrmm, perhaps not the best place to say that about, but you get the idea. It's a rather interesting layout, from the little bit that I did see, with different rooms and spaces spread over a couple floors. By far the highlight of the evening was this old married couple, out on the mostly empty dance floor upstairs, getting down to Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now". They seemed completely unphased by the madness around them, a level of focus that was quite admirable. This is one of those shirtless guy bars, and by all accounts from my friends they are far less gay than the patrons, if at all, so if you want to bring your girly group here for some late night ogling it's probably worth a stop. There were quite a few people openly partaking of illegal substances, which I try not to judge anyone for, but I do have an issue with a business allowing it to blatantly occur on their premises. Then again, since you can smoke cigarettes practically everywhere in Miami, this is only one degree of separation, and frankly smells less offensive. read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years during work visits or personal getaways. I've enjoyed the location and bar, but none like the last 48 hours. I've only written a few YELP reviews over the years, but the kindness and service I received from Matthew these last two days are what have me expressing my satisfaction. To see someone outside the family be more hospitable and deliver superior service than LGBT family tells me that it's more than who we are, but who business owners should recognize and value. The positive energy from him made the negative energy from another server dormant. Kindness, love and good service can do that. I just hope others recognize the difference in the experience, based on who and how it's delivered. Customer feedback is essential, and several of the people I've met today on my third visit this year all agreed they are royally enjoying themselves. The bartender leading the floor and energy has a lot to do with that. Though I found myself quite appalled to previous attitude and treatment the other day, I can give 5 stars because this level of service made up for it. I'll keep coming back here, keep visiting Miami and love Twist. I just like to acknowledge exceptional service, especially as a customer service leader in the financial industry. 3am in South beach & we were not ready to call it a night so we looked to yelp for a little help & came across this place. We took a short walk here from Ocean Avenue once inside we walked around a little to see what was going on big space with several open rooms we first checked out the one by the court yard. Small room very dimly lit it was looking like something out of the red light district very cool we sat at the bar & got some drinks I had some Vodka & cranberry it was not bad my friends got some Jameson & ginger ale also not bad. We chilled at the bar & enjoyed the hot boys dancing ... omggg great eye candy!! Later we made our way upstairs & this is where we stayed great mix of music playing here we stuck to beer had some Stella great beer can't go wrong. My only complain here guys kept running into me & either spilling or burning me their dam cigarettes ughh this was very irritating!! Wow, this place was a lot of fun. When we rolled up, the bouncer looked at our group and seriously warned us, "you know this is a gay club, right?" Indeedy we do. Huge maze of a club, with seven different areas with different music, so you can spastically run from room to room as the music wanes and ebbs from awesome to not so. And hello, there is a stripper bungalow in the backyard, where there are dudes just on pedestals waiting for your $. Also the only place that wasn't smoke-filled, so that was nice. I didn't really hang out in the salsa area, but it looked like it was kinda skimpy while we leaving anyway. Techno area has a ceiling and floor that light up, so lots of flashy fun. Main dance area was filled with wasted girls, one of whom did a faceplant from a milk crate while we watched. Right into her spilled drink from earlier. It was my first time coming here Saturday night, the one drink I had was okay, not worth $15 and the music was good. A lot of people who were there just lacked manners, it wasn't until the next day i checked my bank account and saw an extra $5 was charged to my card. When i called my bank and explained i only bought one drink, she explained how it looked like the bartender had tipped himself with my card. I was outraged because although it was only $5, it's not acceptable to tip yourself. I've never had that happen to me in any other club, I wouldn't go back here for that reason. I can't give the most extensive review because my friend and I only came here for an hour at 4am, but for the short time we were there we had a fabulous time. There is no cover, and there is both an upstairs and a downstairs. Everyone was super nice, and the bartender was very friendly and gave me a bottle of water when I declined to order a drink. The music was loud and the crowd was energetic, and we were able to dance our hearts out to the fun beat. If you're in the mood to go to a gay club, you should have a great time here. When you come to a bar like TWIST, you really have to know what you're getting yourself in to. I didn't really have high expectations when my friends told me to check this place out, and I also just don't expect much from bars (especially gay bars) at all. The way I see it, the concept of bars is simple. This review is based on my experience of drinks, atmosphere, cost, friendliness, and wait times at the bar, which I feel are the main aspects of enjoying any bar experience. Selection of drinks was simple, there were multiple bars throughout the venue so that was definitely a plus. It wasn't very crowded on the night that I came so the wait times weren't too bad. I do have to say I feel a little ridiculous spending $8 on a Corona, but it's Miami beach so that can be excused I suppose. Where I didn't really enjoy this bar is based on the atmosphere. I didn't really get good vibes from the crowd and it seemed like the dancers, drag queen hostess, bartenders weren't the most friendliest bunch. All in all, not a bad place to hang out because of how big the venue is, but that's about it. read more
