After skiing at Song Mountain all day my parents took me to Twin Tree's Restaurant. There are several Twin Trees in the Syracuse. I have both order pizza and ate at the Twin Trees II location on Milton Ave but this is the first time I have been to the Avery Ave location. In the Syracuse area Twin Trees is considered the best pizza. I actually think that this is some of the best pizza I have ever had. There is just something about pizza in Syracuse. People come to Twin Trees for the pizza but it also has a full menu. I would describe the menu as Italian Diner fair. Lots of home pasta as well as meat, chicken and fish items prepared either Italian or Americana style. The atmosphere is neighborhood sports bar with full service restaurant. We ordered two small pizzas (one garlic and one cheese with pepperoni). We almost ordered 1 small and 1 large but we changed our mind and made them both smalls. This was the right thing to do since we had plenty to eat and still had lots leftover for the next day lunch. Since the pizzas were coming later than usual the server offered to bring out bread. This contributed to a carb over load that we probably did not need. I also order the small chef salad with crumbled bleu cheese dressing (a Syracuse standard) which is home made italian dressing mixed with crumbled bleu cheese. In the end it turned into a great night out with my parents. Not a bad way to close out a full day of skiing. Twin Trees is always crowded so expect a wait on Friday and Saturday evenings. Our server was good when we first sat down but ended up flying past us most of the night. The best they could offer was for us to come and pick up the forgotten items (and then return home to eat cold pizza). This place has been around for over 60 years and the quality of food and service here is always outstanding; Katie is the best waitresses! I've been all over the country and Twin Trees is still my favorite pizza place! Their crust is light, fluffy and is a little crispy on the edges. The toppings, cheese and their sauce is always yummy. Every other place around has soggy oily pizza or wings that are either to dry from over frying or overly oily. They also make the Italian classics well, huge portions here! I've always heard great things about Twin Trees so I decided to stop in the original location. I got in close to closing so the only thing i was able to get was the pizza. But thats okay because its the pizza that i often hear great things about. So, how did reality compare with the hype? Pretty darn close. I got a sausage and pepperoni pie and it didn't disappoint. The crust is thin and there was a nice combination of cheese on a flavorful sauce. The toppings were just the right amount and blended in well with the crust, cheese and sauce. Next time, I will get there earlier so I can try some of the other menu items. Whenever I'm in Syracuse all I need to hear are 2 special words to make it a good trip... Twin trees. There a few different locations and I always order pizza from them. This location is a full restaurant that also has a party space in the back. I always get pizza here even though they offer more because how could you not! I love the way it is cut. The little rectangles are perfect for helping you not overeat although not over eating here is hard. I love the garlic pizza and pepperoni and bacon pizza. The staff is always friendly and helpful whether you are in the party space or dining on your own. The decor is a bit outdated and the bathrooms are really small but honestly you go there for the amazing pizza not the decor. I love it here and will always love it here. Like so many restaurants in Syracuse this place also had faded green cloth napkins and decor from 1983. I think it's supposed to feel homely. The pizza was okay. Nothing special. And the rest of the portions of food were gigantic. My friend ordered a side of gnocchi and we were pretty certain that the dish contained at least a week's worth of calories. Everything was pretty heavy and greasy. On the positive side, the staff were exceptionally friendly and pleasant and in a very genuine way. I felt like I was being served by a real person. We had a large party and some pretty complicated (ie, exceedingly fussy) orders and our waitress was in great spirits about it--she joked around with us, seemed to really enjoy what she was doing. One of my most favorite pizza places and great Italian food. Many places are either good at just pizza and not Italian dishes or good ITalian dishes and not pizza. This place does both really well! Go on a weeknight and get the awesome pizza, wing, pitcher of beer deal. Can't beat it! I also love their antipasto - great homemade dressing. Definitely a thrown back to the past when you walk in, but in a good way! I like the pizza with extra sauce (not quite enough for my liking) and they make a delicious "Gourmet" Pizza. The one we go to is on Route 57 in Liverpool, but I've been to a few of the others and they never disappoint. Twin Trees is highly known for its "Syracuse Style" pizza, which is pizza is somewhere between Chicago-style and NY-style, cut into strips lengthwise, and served with a signature garlic-tomato sauce. Plenty of other local joints have duplicated it either in taste or appearance over the decades (Daniella's Steak House in Geddes at one time claimed to have the original sauce and pizza recipe). Personally, I'm not totally in love with Syracuse Style pizza, if there is such a thing, but do seek it out on occasion. Anyway, I came here with my family of 6. Drank lots of wine and ate lots of pizza; one with extra cheese and one with sausage, peppers, and onions. The pizza was a tad on the greasy side, but had a nice, sweet-garlicy sauce, thin dough with a decent amount of "give", and really great crust that was not at all dry. The pizza is worth a try if you haven't had it before. Not my main choice as far as local pie goes - still hard to top Gianni's, Pavone's, or even Flame - but Twin Trees is a worthy mention; if only for the tradition aspect. Also I should give a nod to the stuffed cherry peppers appetizer I had as well - red and green cherry peppers filled with delicious ground beef and topped with lots of mozz and a sweet marinara sauce. I've been a customer since 1978. My patronage ended yesterday when I called with a pizza order. The man who answered asked if my order was for delivery or pickup. I asked for delivery to Lakeland. He responded, "we don't deliver to Lakeland during the State Fair!", and then hung up the phone. He never gave me the option to pick up my order, which I was willing to do. My business went to Johnny Mac's of Lakeland. Service was great and pizza delicious. Johnny Mac's is now my pizza go to place. Sorry Twin Trees, you missed out on a $100 pizza order. This is in regards to the North Syracuse location.... So many people rant & rave about how awesome twin trees is. About 2 years ago my husband and I finally tried it out by ordering pizza & wings to go. The verdict - meh. The pizza was okay. I know slicing their pizza in strips is their 'thing', but I think it's silly. If I wanted strips of pizza I would go to Pizza Hut and get cheezy bread or whatever it is on their commercials (I haven't had pizza hut since I was about 8 years old since they are crap too). Definitely points lost for the cut of their pizza. Moving on to the wings - they were HUGE. Couldn't complain about the size of the jumbo wings, but the flavor and texture on the other hand wasn't good. We ordered hot wings and they were more like mild/medium. Also, I dont know if we just got a bad batch, but they were rubbery! We dont ever order crispy wings, but I think you have to at this place just to get them to be sortof cooked properly. Fast forward to about 6 months ago. We decided to give them another try and dine in this time to order their Italian food. Boy was this a mistake! I ordered the chicken franciase and my husband ordered the lasagna. The chicken was a fried chicken cutlet that they slapped some lemon sauce on top. It was gross and practically inedible. The lasagna was also very bad. My husband ate about 1/4 of it and we didn't bother taking our leftovers home. Our waitress was very nice, and I can't say anything bad about the staff we encountered. The pizzas are cut into strips unless you ask for the state fair slices, if it's your first time.. stick to the slices. Completely different style of pizza.
