This is my second visit to Twin Colony Diner. My family was camping locally for the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and we always try to find a good diner when traveling and Twin Colony First the place is clean and open later then most places around. It has a very large menu and a bunch of specials. Our server, while not generally friendly was attentive and kept my Diet Pepsi filled. However I ordered the French Dip (I usually do if it is on a menu). It came with Swiss cheese and au jus on the side. Unfortunately the beef was not very flavorful and had some gristle that made parts tough to chew. The au jus was VERY salty. All in all not a great sandwich. It did come with a very small side of coleslaw which was very good (if just a fork full). Not sure if I will be back a third time. read more

This diner is seriously old school! I think it probably has the original tables and chairs. We were there at 2:00 on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. There was only 1 server at the time and tbh was a little surprised by how long it took for us to get our food. The food itself was quality diner fare although the pickle was terrible and the amount of coleslaw you get is bordering on insulting. If you're not going to give me Cole slaw that's fine, but if you ARE going to give me Cole slaw then give me Cole slaw in an amount bigger than a fork-full. I will say though that the price point was great, making it a high value place to satisfy your hunger. If you're in the area you can be confident that you're going to get a solid meal at a good price but I wouldn't go out of my way to make this my destination. read more

First off we love old chrome diners and have gone here for breakfast regularly over the last 4 years or so. Coffee is good but sadly the last several times we have been there in 2025 and 2026 things are slipping. Today I got Eggs Benedict, english muffin underneath not toasted, home fries mushy, over cooked and no sign of crispy. Wifes rye bread seemed like grocery store bread and some was old and had been reheated. Wait staff not well trained these days and have little clue of customer service. Avoid! On our visit we sat in the "diner' area. Yesterday we sat in the 'dining room' area for the. Seemed fine at first, but wait for it. What was once a carpet - I'm guessing - is now the hideously greasy, and obviously embarrassingly clue that the health inspector(s) are totally blind! Diners are an institution that bring back memories. This one lives up to the standard. It was 1130 so we went for the early lunch soup/sandwich combo. Matzo ball soup (yes, a surprise) was light, onion soup greasy. Sandwiches were generous -- the tuna melt was ok, so was the Reuben. Cole slaw was creamy. Had seen this on the way out the day before and thought it would fit the bill, especially because I was with my ten year old daughter who doesn't like breakfast and was happy to pick pasta. After some 50 year of eating out I have yet to find the fascination with diners. Perhaps when I was young and foolish they might have staved off a bad hangover. But since then? Mediocre bland food at best, sloooowww service and sometimes not so clean. The Twin Colony passed the cleanliness test in flying colors. Tables, floors, seats, bathrooms room were are clean and in good repair. Service was ok. Our waitress was friendly and cheerful. Maybe she should get a job teaching people skills to New Jersey diner staff. From here it goes down the drain. Fortunately the menu seems small enough that a short order cook, a microwave, a fryer and a flattop should be able handle the menu. I had the patty melt with fries. The rye toast is what I expected and just fine. The Swiss cheese was ok . However the meat patty ( and perhaps it was beef) was tough , gristly and basically flavorless. The McDonalds QPC is a much better burger. Not that the QPC is going to be confused with any fine burger . The fries were the big fat ones however they were well cooked, crispy , and hot through. Just not my favorites so that's a personal hit. They were actually very good for the style . My wife's lunch was a complete failure. It was the Waitress Special which is a grilled cheese with tomato. I expect a grilled cheese to be kind of gooey with melted cheese, plenty of butter on the grilled surfaces and with the tomato it should also be hot and cooked. This was more like two toasted slices of bread with 2 slices of cheese and a cold tomato slapped between the somewhat lukewarm toast. The cheese was not melted the tomato at room temperature at best. If you can't make a grilled cheese sandwich perhaps it's time to Find another profession. I will give the Twin 4 on cleanliness, 3 to 4 on service and 2 on food. I live over a half hour away so I drove up there and it was about two minutes after 10:00 and they were closed and the lobby doors were locked. A lot of folks complaining about the burgers so with Jake's next door there's no reason to try the burgers just yet. Decor is dated but I like that. Table Juke boxes don't seem to be working. They seem to have a steady following so it gives me hope the food is fresh. But still it's best to stick with breakfast, French fries and BLTs along with the apps. This was a halfway point for several people for an early breakfast meeting. I was the first to arrive, and I explained to the gentleman at the counter I was meeting a few people. He told me to sit anywhere. Within seconds, a young lady asked if I wanted coffee. I said yes, and by the time I found a table to my liking, she was back with it. Even better, she kept it filled through the meeting. She made sure there was enough room at the table for all expected, and left menus for everyone. My colleagues finally all arrived, and our server made herself available, but didn't interrupt (except to refill coffee cups). When we were ready to order, she was prompt to take them, and the food arrived quickly. Prices were reasonable and the food was good. Only one complaint, from one of the other attendees, is that what they called a "hard roll" wasn't what he was expecting. It was a cultural thing (he's from another part of the US originally) and what we call hard rolls are somewhat softer than he's used to (he said there's a crunch when you bite into them, and all I could think of was he liked stale bread). The facility is bright, clean and airy, and everyone was friendly. If I needed to grab a quick bite coming through Torrington, I'd probably stop here. read more

I can honestly say that I am severely disappointed in Twin Colony, Fried Chicken Dinner 19.99 Salad, Bread and Butter, vegetables, and fries... Asked for a salad with no onions it came with diced onions , no bread and butter, no vegetables, the fried chicken I never laughed so hard it would of been perfect for a kids menu. Seriously 1 regular piece of chicken and the rest were the size of my pinky, my boyfriend was mad and went to the manager and the manager said it's portion controlled that's how they came in, so they made me some new ones and I just told them to put in the box to go... So before we left I checked the container and died laughing they grabbed the smallest chicken and gave them to me ‍ like you really can't make this up! Good bye Twin Colony we used to be regulars but not anymore charging 20 bucks for that and then try to justify trying to get away with it nope. Twinco is a Torrington institution. They used to be open 24 hours, but now they close at 2am during the week. The BLTs and Disco Fries are an experience everyone must have once...besides nobody comes to a diner to eat healthy. Their breakfast options are pretty solid, and 2 eggs with corned beef hash and rye toast is my fave. That said, it's a diner, the food is greasy and good for soaking up alcohol - and their breakfast is good. Don't come in expecting 5 star gourmet food and you won't be disappointed. What DOES disappoint me though, is when they renovated they got rid of the garish neon lights and jukeboxes at the tables :( read more

First timer. Went to Kent Falls and stopped for a bite or two. Decided on a couple of dogs and some chili and plank fries. Then I washed it down with a Diet Pepsi. And got a refill when asked, no charge. The booths were spacious. The waitress was very nice. There is a $4 minimum to eat here, which I thought was crazy for the old timers who like to socialize in the morning, but I can understand that they need to make a bit more money since the place is so large. You can dance here. There is a lot of space. Large menu. You can go fast food, or you can go fancy dinner. Your choice. Your pocketbook. All in all, this was a pleasant experience. We were up in Torrington last night, stopped in the Twin Colony Diner for dinner. I had the Alamo burger deluxe, my fiancee ordered a roasted turkey dinner. My burger was pretty sad -- sub-par & bland tasting. Her meal was a bit better, but not by much. Dessert came with my fiancee's meal, we got it to go. Had the piece of cake later that night, again, very bland & flavorless. It had the individula jukeboxes, the low counter with stools, the booths and a display case for the pies.. the staples of decor for a diner. However, It wasn't 50's, more like 70's.. browns, yellows, oranges, etc.. dreary and depressing is the best way to explain it. If the colors were upgraded, it would have a whole different vibe. We have been going to this diner for years, but it's all down hill. We went to Twin Colony because of the outdoor patio. We both ordered roast beef sandwiches on a Portugese roll. We waited and waited and finally, our server brought out the sandwiches. DISASTER! Instead of roast beef, fresh, rare and rosy, they put OLD DRIED OUT PIECES OF OVER COOKED POT ROAST which was absolutely disgusting!!!! You don't substitute pot roast for roast beef!
